@BourbonBiscuits I was gonna say I’m curious how he’d do if you just took the crib down so there was no other option. It’s REALLY easy for me to say this as a non-parent but in general I feel kids tend to reach whatever (realistic) bar we set for them.
@megpants209 that's true, he's totally a kid I underestimate/expect things to be really difficult with and he always steps up and exceeds my expectations.
@okayestmom12 I think I'm going to bite the bullet and start tonight. Good thing I have a slow day at work today because literally all I've done is try to map out a plan for this. UGHHH.
A few good randoms from the past few days. First, my cat has not peed on any bedding since Thursday! Vet put him on a new food for treating bladder issues that also has calming ingredients. So I have a chill kitty that seems to be able to pee where he's supposed to! Second, my youngest had a sleep study last week to see if his tonsils were causing breathing issues at night and contributing to his recurring ear infections. Results were normal so the tonsils can stay in! Finally, I did 5 hours at the zoo with the boys yesterday and felt really good about it. I wasn't as tired as I expected and it did wonders for my recently developed mommy guilt about how little time I've been giving them lately.
On day 4 of no naps from DD after having her nap every other day for the last week. I feel like I’m in a fog. The worst part is by 4 she is either falling asleep or super cranky. Why fight it kid?? Naps are wonderful!
Checking in after going AWOL for a few days. My weekend was far from relaxing, and this week is already a shitstorm at work (combined with meetings or events almost every evening). Sorry if I'm absent a bit this week! I promise (hope?) that this coming weekend will be calmer and I'll be able to participate more.
@BourbonBiscuits I would just keep bringing him back in to bed when he gets up and eventually he will get it! It takes time but no time like the present lol
we co slept with DS until like a month ago and he’s been doing pretty good with his big boy bed! He’ll get up in the middle of the night and ask me to lay with him which I do and then I go back to bed once he’s asleep.
@BourbonBiscuits my DS is 2.5. I definitely agree with the others that you just have to jump into it and stay consistent. I think taking down the crib will help too. We moved it into the room that is going to be the nursery so he can’t even see it
Alright friends, we’re diving in head first tonight. Decided to convert the crib to a toddler bed so he has at least some level of familiarity. I’ve got pillows laid out on the floor for when he inevitably falls out. My plan is to lay with him for our books and then stay with him holding his hand until he falls asleep (that’s what I’ve had to do to keep him in the crib the past week or so) not going to lock the door or get a gate or anything (mostly because the lock scares me and we haven’t gotten a baby gate). I’ll just take him back in whenever he wakes up and brace myself for a few nights of very little sleep.
We never locked our kids in but, if you’re looking for some level of “lock”, we did use a kid proof door knob cover on the inside handle. Then we would hear the kiddo jostling with it and could check the monitor/ go see what was going on.
It took him about an hour to fall asleep in the big boy bed, but he was so cute and brave and excited! We’ve been doing a lot of “you’re such a big boy”/big brother talk over the past few weeks kind of accidentally, so when I told him he got to sleep in a big boy bed tonight I think it clicked that big boys don’t sleep in cribs. He grabbed his blanket and his stuffed doggie and plopped right down with the biggest smile on his face when I said it’s time to go night night. I’m going to bed extra early tonight in anticipation of a few wake ups. But (knock on wood) so far so good!
I’ve been kind of awol because we’ve been on our pseudo baby moon in Minneapolis for the past few days, it’s been great! As much as small towns have their conveniences I really miss living in a city. Back to the cornfields today...
@BourbonBiscuits I’m glad the transition has gone well! Our DS is 19 months and has shown zero interest in climbing out of his crib, but I know the day is coming. Reading your plan helped me think for the future as well. Hopefully the transition continues to go well!
@megpants209 pretty amazing!! He was up at 2:00. When I said it's time to go back to your big boy bed he shook his head and gave a sweet, informational "no" but took my hand and walked with me back to his room. I put him in his bed and laid next to him for what felt like 3 years. I think I crawled back into my bed at 4:30, but I fell asleep at some point. FYI - sleeping on the floor while 24 weeks pregnant is not comfortable. DH just texted me that he went down for his nap after only 20 minutes of hand holding!
I know tonight will likely be worse (he always has a big burst on night two of any change - dropping the paci, bottle, CIO, everything got way worse on night 2), but he did soooo well that now I feel much better about deciding to go for it now. He's totally ready this time in a way he wasn't the first time we tried. Thank you for thinking about us and for all the encouragement! Remind me of how proud I am now when I'm complaining in the middle of th enight tonight, okay?
@danixbanani24 I got nauseous too and was thinking I better not throw this up and have to do it again! Hoping for good results for us!
@grebretso it wasn’t awful just the orange was more palatable to me. I tend to favor orange flavors though. The nurse at the office said she likes the lemon lime better so who knows. Neither of them are very pleasant. They are just way too sweet!
You guys ... if you want some wild reading check the March 19 To all the Lurkers board. Seemed like a totally innocent, inviting post that just exploded. My jaw was on the floor by the end of it.
@BourbonBiscuits- Your post was so inspirational that maybe I am gonna try it sooner than we had planned. Ped said not within three months of new baby so basically it is now or when newbie is 3 months old and that seems like a tough time for it.
Re that other board and thread, I went to check it out. Oof. Felt bad for the OP. Lotta hormones and a lotta angst playing out! I think I see why we have some early March refugees coming in here
@okayestmom12 I was thinking the same and it definitely didn’t result in that.
I feel like the kid who ran away to their friends house for the night only to realize they missed home... I genuinely love this board and feel like contributions, even as a FTM are valued. Thanks guys!
@madreofdragons right? My favorite was the first response. “Not to be judgey, but here comes all the judginess anyway!”. Good god. Makes me wonder if anyone’s hate-reading everything we post.
Edit to add: didn’t see your pee dream post until after I closed down the app and reopened it, but yes! All the time. It’s nerve wracking to think that one night I’ll finally find the toilet I’ve been searching for in the dream

@madreofdragons the pee dream yes! Not in recent adulthood but I HAVE started to go when I have the dream so now I'm conditioned that any time I have the slightest urge I wake up and go. Pre-pregnancy I'd be up usually twice a night... lately I'm at 5... I am TERRIFIED of the pee dream
@mschanandlerbong1214 ha ha, now it’s your board with the craziness. *hopes tags cross boards without making a shift in the time continuum or something.
Yeah I’ve gotten away with YEARS of dream peeing. Usually the feeling doesn’t go away in my dream and the bathrooms end up more and more gross but I keep trying. I don’t know how I haven’t peed myself yet.
M19er here. And I want to chime in so bad but I’m just gonna be snarky and start sh*t because that thread is hilarious to me. Way to take something so innocuous and turn it into an “us vs them” battle. Don’t like it? Don’t say anything. Just lurk and make fun of us to your irl friends ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and if they think M19 is cliquey and mean they woulda cried every day on D14, right @madreofdragons
I’m so glad I’m not the only one with pee dreams. I always dream that I’m trying so hard to pee and that I can’t. Then I wake up and I have to run to the bathroom before I pee myself 😭😂 it usually happens after I’ve already woken up once because I have to pee but I’m so tired that I just go back to sleep. I’m trying not to do that anymore or I may end up peeing the bed😳
I don't dream pee, but I have fallen asleep peeing on the toilet more than once while either pregnant or with a NB.
Also, mild freak out today because I realized if this baby comes when DS #1 came, I've got three months left. Which is both forever and no time at all.
@madreofdragons I have had pee dreams since I was a kid. I only wet the bed once during a pee dream (when I was 8 or 9), but as a result always wake up thinking I did. Fortunately no accidents since then
