  • @indigoheightsblog it’s so weird but glad it worked!

  • Anyone having issues refreshing our March 2019 message boards on mobile? I only get "new" notifications on desktop as of the last two days.... I've even deleted and reinstalled the app but it just keeps showing up without any "new" notifications.

I like to see what conversations have new comments in them that I might be interested in reading - but without it saying "new" next to the thread, I have no way of knowing.
For the first half of yesterday I couldn't reply or post on mobile.  When I'd press the link to do so it would take me to the bump home page.

  • Hey ladies, I’ve googled extensively with mix results and emailed my doctor, but haven’t heard back. Anyone know if Vick’s VapoRub is safe during pregnancy? This cold is kicking my bit and I ended up using it last night and now I’m worried I shouldn’t.
  • So, I’m looking for some advice about when to tell work that I’m pregnant. I’ve mentioned this before, but I accepted a new teaching position in the spring- before I was pregnant- in a new district. We recently relocated which is why I had to look for another job in the first place.

My first day is a week from Monday. I actually haven’t even met my principal yet so it’s all a bit weird. I was hired by someone higher up.

Im not covered by FMLA, but in Massachusetts, there is a separate law that requires employers to grant 8 weeks unpaid leave after the employee has completed the initial probationary period which can’t exceed 3 months. As far as I know, there is no probationary period (nothing is listed in the contract or my hiring papers). The contract also states that teachers will be granted up to 2 years unpaid leave if they choose without their position being jeopardized.

With all of that said, teacher jobs are never stable, because when it comes down to it, I have the least seniority and it’s technically only a one year contract. It would be nice to continue in this district next year but I’m also looking to go part time which may not be an option.

Any advice? Sorry this was so long!
  • @Pooka8 one of my girlfriends brought that up. I asked my OB about Zofran and he bluntly told me he would never prescribe me something that could do harm. I did some research on my own and found a study that disproved all of the theories about birth defects. It's been awhile, so I'd have to research for the link.

Someone else mentioned consitpiation but I am too lazy to scroll up to find the name and tag. Horrible with Zofran, I can't believe your OB didn't mention that side effect!  I took mine with tons of fiber and a miralax a day, and it was Ok. The Zofran made me feel more sick so I just stopped and dealt with the nausea after like a week of it. It didn't work last pregnancy for me either.
  • @lelkcot I used it all last pregnancy and have broken it out this one too. I don't know explicitly, but I think it's safe.

  • @chocolatelemons you might get more responses on the working thread. Is there an HR department you can talk to about what you are entitled to before going to your boss?

  • @meggyme Yeah, I was thinking of posting there too. There is an HR department but it consists of one older woman who has been pretty non responsive so far (with other things that have come up). It’s just hard because I want to make I don’t want to screw them over by waiting too long, but I also don’t want to just tell them right away and possibly
    screw myself over.
  • More of a product question, but any other STM exclusive pumpers out there who have seen the Willow pump?!  This will be my one splurge and I am so excited to try it!

Anyone here 5ft2 and under? I am 5 ft tall (probably 4'11 and a half but I round up!) with a somewhat stocky frame and I've mentioned this before but I'm already REALLY showing. I've been asked twice now "am I sure it's not twins"... I was 135 lbs before pregnancy and I've gained 6 lbs in the first trimester. I am 11 weeks 4 days today. I know everybody shows at different times and some of this might be bloat, but I've been taking weekly bump pics and the difference from 8 weeks to 11 weeks is pretty crazy! I'm just curious to know from others' experiences how pregnancy affects the body on women who are very petite/short.
  • I am 5ft. even and have gained 11lbs. I'm a little over 12 weeks. I wasn't super small to begin with and am definitely showing. Haven't announced my pregnancy at work but I can tell everyone already knows!
  • I’m 5’1” and quite stocky myself. Solid is what the family’s always said. I’ve gained a couple pounds (8 weeks) but oh dear lord the bloat. Definitely makes me look like something’s going on down there.

  • @purplepirate09 @catlady2015 thanks ladies! i feel like people are shocked at how i'm showing and since this is my first i wasn't sure what to expect but with my height even gaining 5 pounds looks like i've gained 15 on a good day.... so add pregnancy to the mix and i guess i really can't be surprised that my uterus has nowhere to hide! LOL
  • Did any STM+ have a family practice doctor deliver your baby instead of an OB? That's how the practice my doctor (a family practice doctor) works and I am trying to decide how I feel about it.
  • @indigoheightsblog I'm 5' 2" and managed to hide my belly until around 14-16 weeks when I finally had to give in and tell my employer. However I will say that as soon as I started showing, I got pretty big! I'm short so there just isn't anywhere to go but out. By 30 weeks I honestly looked like I was going to topple over! I do think us shorter gals have bigger bellies due to our shorter torsos. With this pg, I started off with a bit of a belly (diastasis recti with my DD so my abdominal muscles prturde outward) so all I own are flowy tops - makes it easier to hide! I am showing sooner this time around for sure though.
@southerngirlinwi Yes, I opted for a family dr who delivered babies, with my DD. I loved my doctor. Unfortunately she was not the dr on call at the hospital the night i went into labour (as is often the case) so I ended up delivering with another family doctor instead. He was good though! Didn't push any interventions or anything. I would do the same thing again this time except my family dr seems intent on getting me to see a high risk obgyn instead.
  • Has anyone tried Blanqi support clothing during pregnancy? I keep seeing it advertised on Facebook and I definitely could have used more support during my last pregnancy. I'm curious if this stuff is worth the price!
Did anyone wear a belly support band during pregnancy? If so, any recommendations for brands?! Thanks!
  • @laur84ns thanks for that info! i am so with you. unfortunately this belly (despite it being my first baby) did not hold off until 14-16 weeks... i was showing at 10 weeks!!! unbelievable! it's true though - there's absolutely nowhere for it to go. and in regards to blanqi that's another company that i've been thinking about pitching my blogging services to so if i get a collaboration with them i'll let you know and we can discuss quality and worthiness in a few weeks!
  • I know I have asked a lot about Zofran and I see my midwife again on Wednesday (so I’m going to be quizzing her too then). But does anyone have any experience with it or talked to their doctor about the supposed birth defects it can cause? I went without it for 4 days and on Saturday vomited most of the evening/night. I’m beating myself up over taking it emotionally but At the same time I trust my midwife. Thanks in advanced!
  • @BuckeyeNut05 Thank you so much!!!
  • @chocolatelemons I am not a teacher (but I do live in Mass, hi!)  That said, I would not tell them right away.  I would give yourself enough time to get acclimated/meet everyone, let them see how great a teacher you are first.  I'm sure its a tough position for you to be in because it sounds like you aren't sure what your future plans are.  Are there part-time options as a teacher?  Or are you thinking of doing something different?  You already know you are covered by Mass maternity laws but I'd try to find out if you are also covered by the 2 year leave job protection.  Do you have a union rep you can talk to?
  • @indigoheightsblog Oh cool, I was wondering if that might be one of the brands you would try! I'm in Canada so with the exchange rate, duties and shipping this stuff is SUPER expensive but they do have a lot of great reviews. I'm very curious if they're worth the price! Thanks for responding!
  • @laur84ns I bought the BLANQI support leggings for nursing. I am 5’ 10”, weighed about 168 when I bought them (was still carrying 15 pounds baby weight) and bought a medium. They are soft and, as most people
teport, they do snag easily if you’re not careful.

They pulled all the way up to under my boobs so I was covered while nursing but they felt HORRIBLE! The top band would slide down constantly like it was too loose, the crotch gapped so I was always pulling the legs back up to feel snug—they made me feel super annoyed whenever I’d wear them. I’m going to try them one last time during this pregnancy and see if they provide any support when pulled over my belly. If not, I’m returning them & ordering a size small. If those don’t work I’m getting my money back.

I tried a simple stretchy elastic belly band during my last pregnancy. (Like a tube bra) I’d wear it while running. It didn’t do much.
  • @keikilove that is sooooo disappointing! :( i'd be curious to know if yours are too big on you.... definitely give the small a try! i had such high hopes!
  • @keikilove Thanks for the honest review. I'll be curious to see if you like how they fit better with a pregnant belly! Pls keep me posted. Do you find they pilled (piled?) badly? That's what worries me... my thighs definitely touch (!) so I tend to getting pilling and apparently these are bad for that.
  • @BuckeyeNut05 - I EP'd with my daughter and remember seeing the Willow pump.  I think it was released right around the time I weaned.  I am not sure what I will do with this baby - I guess it depends on if I have an easier time nursing.  It would still be really nice to have for pumping at work, but that is a hefty price tag considering I already have 3 pumps!
  • @cdiddy81 Thanks for the response and those are great questions. I actually had a two day orientation this week and I met union reps, teachers and principals. Overall, I got a great feel for the work environment. Right now, I’m thinking I will tell them in late September or early October, depending on how much I’m showing. I actually have a mentor as well so I thought she may be a good place to start.
  • Dear Friends, I have a question regarding Folic Acid intake, I'm 10 weeks pregnant and I had started taking 1mg of folic acid "Nestle Materna" tablet when I was 7 week pregnant (this is when I actually got to know about my pregnancy), now my GYN suggested to take +5mg of folic acid tablet on top of 1 mg. Just wanted to know if it is too much, anyone else taking 6mg of folic acid? Please suggest. Thank you.
  • Hey knottie! As far as I know you can’t have too much folic acid. With all vitamins, you will pee out whatever you don’t need. There’s no real “overdose” danger with vitamins. Please change your username when you get a chance so that we can better get to know you! You can also introduce yourself in the intros thread. Welcome!
  • I’ve got a question about Tylenol. I know it’s deemed safe for prefnancy.... but how often can you REALLY take it? I’ll be calling my OB when they open regarding my headaches. It’s so bad. I went to sleep at 9pm and woke up and it’s STILL there. I caved and took 2 Tylenol again this morning. Can you take a dose everyday/every other day? Or should you only be taking it occasionally?

Additiinally I am 12 weeks today. Can I go to a chiropractor? Thinking of doing a prenatal massage tomorrow since I’m technically now in my second trimester.... but im also wondering about the chiro. I need this head popped back into place, STAT.

  • @indigoheightsblog yes to the chiropractor! It helped me so much with my first pregnancy. Some chiropractors have additional training in pregnancy, especially when it comes to adjusting the back/pelvis area.
  • @indigoheightsblog Definitely call your OB to find out about what dosage is considered safe, but I've read a decent amount about taking Tylenol during pregnancy (I had horrible back pains ~week 5-6 that were keeping me awake) and it is considered safe as long as you don't exceed the recommended dose on the bottle.

I'm sure if you've been googling, you've come across the websites like "is Tylenol really safe?!?" that cite a study linking Tylenol during pregnancy with behavioral problems of the child later in the life but these studies are very preliminary and only show a link (remember... correlation does not mean causation!). The study was a bit flawed, but even if you'd rather stay on the side of caution then they also found there was a stronger link when Tylenol was taken during the third trimester. Most studies have shown Tylenol to be perfectly safe during pregnancy and, for example, don't increase rates of miscarriage.

Ultimately, I'd trust your OB's recommendations, but I would feel okay taking it right now especially since you're in so much pain. There was no way I was going to suffer with those backaches which were keeping me from sleeping or functioning and I took Tylenol as needed for a few days until the pain subsided (I'm generally on the side of limiting suffering when possible!). I'd just try to get to the root of what's causing your headaches so you don't end up having to take it every day for the rest of your pregnancy!

  • @indigoheightsblog I had to take several doses this week when my congestion was causing sinus headaches. Ask you doctor, but normal doses are ok. However, if you need a massage and a chiropractor chances are that either of those will help your headaches immensely. I hold all my tension in my neck and shoulders and my masseuse would always tease me that I only come in when it's really bad because I start getting headaches. Getting that tension worked out will probably go a long way in helping your headaches.

Thank you all! Calling the OB soon but yes those preliminary studies really have a way of spooking me! The root of the problem is def tension causing pinched nerve in my neck, otherwise known as occipital neuralgia. It’s a blast. Gotta get to a chiropractor stat.
  • @indigoheightsblog I’ve been having the same feelings about taking Tylenol. My headaches are hormonal and I think weather related. My doctor basically said it’s ok to follow the recommended dosage, but I still don’t like to take it. I had to take two last night when I woke up at 4 AM still with a pounding headache. I’ve found a frozen washcloth (in a plastic bag for when it melts) on the back of my neck helps when the headaches aren’t as bad. Hope you feel better!
  • @jesiannv thanks girl! you too!! i'll try that washcloth trick. my OB said Tylenol is totally fine. they actually also recommended that i start adding one small caffeinated beverage into my daily routine now that i'm crossing into the 2nd trimester. and lastly, i saw a chiropractor tonight and i'm going back for another adjustment on friday so here's to hoping these do the trick!
  • I am experiencing some really strange aches/pains in my belly today. It’s not sharp like round ligament pain, more dull ab muscle pain, like I did 100 sit-ups this morning, especially in my middle and upper abs. I did work out this morning, but nothing new or out of the ordinary for me. I never had anything like this during my first pregnancy. I am 12 weeks and definitely starting to bump out, so maybe it’s just stretching/growing pains from the expanding waistline?

Anyone else experience something like this? I am not overly concerned, just curious if it’s in the normal range or if I should bring it up with my midwife next week.
  • @maggiemadeit since I started back to work and have been moving a lot more (I have a toodler and walk somewhat regularly but I’ll be honest this first trimester has me feeling very out of it-nausea and exhaustion). It is also starting to cause some cramping/aches I don’t think it’s necessarily RLP either but I’m 12 weeks today so it could be. I just keep thinking it’s normal growth of the uterus making room for the baby. I’m not bleeding or anything so I keep telling myself it’s normal. Also I met with my midwife yesterday and everything checked out great! If you do mention it please let me know what you find out and I’d also love to hear from others on it.
  • I've had a lot of dull pain/aches. Mine feels like it's more deep, like actually my uterus, not abs. To me, it feels just like my menstrual cramps always have except worse. It's been really annoying. I had some with my last pregnancy but not near as much. I assume everything's fine. No spotting or anything so I don't worry.
