  • Anyone experiencing back pain...I had my appt yesterday and everything looked great, strong heartbeat for baby but I am really struggling with back pain. It keeps me up at night, I’m constantly tossing and turning ...last night I finally got the heating pad, which provided a little relief. Just want to see what everyone does for the pain...I’m not a big medicine person, but I also can’t be up for hours on end with pain

  • @cdub4292 I had horrible back pain during the first trimester last pregnancy. I had to sleep with a pregnancy pillow (I used the Snoogle) starting around 8w. I tried to stay away from heating pads because there are some mixed reviews. Every morning when I woke up, I also walked through a handful of yoga poses (especially cat and cow).
  • @cdub4292 Me! Well especially yesterday. I got home from work and basically spent the rest of the evening lying flat in bed. I may have to start some yoga, which I don't usually do, to relieve some of the tightness and strain.
  • I’m also having discomfort in my back, especially at night. I saw my chiropractor already yesterday and it helped. If you haven’t already, chiropractic care in pregnancy is the best thing I discovered during my second pregnancy...this time I might partner it with PT if it gets really bad again, but there is no way I would have made it through my last pregnancy without my chiropractor.
  • I used to get once monthly massages prior to getting pregnant because I hold a lot of tension in my shoulders and lower back but have been nervous about going back since becoming pregnant (I did have one massage experience pre-pregnancy where the masseuse pressed really hard and 10 minutes after the massage I got really ill with nausea and fever). Anyone get regular massages during pregnancy and what has been your experience?
  • @mayoduck I got my first prenatal massage this time the same week I got my bfp. I had one scheduled with my regular masseuse and was so sad to not have him anymore. If you've never gotten a prenatal massage they usually do not allow you to lay flat on your back/stomach and are limited in the pressure they can use and where they apply it. Just make sure they are a certified prenatal masseuse, which most spas will insist on for liability reasons.

Also, FYI some spas do not do massages in the 1st Tri because the risk of miscarriage is generally higher and they don't want to get sued even though they followed all the rules and the pregnancy wasn't viable for whatever reason. I have my next one scheduled for next Wednesday.

  • Anyone else who is taking Zofran feel like it is making their nausea worse??
  • @mayoduck I got a prenatal massage during our babymoon in my third trimester and it was amazing.  I wish I had done one sooner and plan to try to squeeze a couple in this time around if possible.  I was always on my side and they gave me a pillow to hug and it was just the most calming, relaxing experience.
  • @mayoduck @meggyme - my spa won't do first tri massage. they also do my hair so i cant lie (i usually get highlights and had to get a cut already). I've heard of some people just not telling the spa they're pregnant so they can still get in. I'm eagerly waiting for second tri so I can get a massage again!

@catlady2015 I would not lie to a massage therapist about being pregnant. Even in the first trimester, there are some subtle adjustments they make, including avoiding pressure points that may cause contractions (a massage would have a very very low probability of actually causing anything to happen, but still) and ensuring you are not laying on a heated table. But you could look for other massage places! I get a massage every few weeks and my therapist is certified in prenatal massage, so I usually ask her to go a little gentle on me (as opposed to super deep tissue) and make sure she takes the other precautions. I did have a massage shortly before finding out about a MMC last time, and I admit I questioned whether that - or anything I did - caused it. But in all likelihood, especially in the case of a MMC, it was a chromosomal abnormality and not caused by the massage, and I have already had two this time around.
  • @catlady2015 oh my goodness, I don't think I'd feel comfortable lying to get seen. I may wait until my second trimester to go in anyway.
  • I wouldn't lie about it to get seen, no way. I've waited too long to get pregnant to risk it. I've tried 3-4 places around me and nobody will do a first tri prenatal. I was just saying there are those who have done it. to each their own, I say...

  • @catlady2015 I was surprised that the Massage Envy I go to did them in the 1st tri. When I was in San Diego the one I went to wouldn’t do them that early. And as much as I appreciate the extra precautions regarding pressure and pressure points I felt a bit ridiculous hugging the massive pregnancy pillow at 4 weeks pregnant.

  • @meggyme haha I think that would feel so awkward! Mine is ok with me on my stomach or back as long as I'm comfortable.
  • I don't think my Massage Envy does them the first Tri.  I had a few prenatal massages last pregnancy and they were amazing.  I had really bad back pain that shot down my arm in my 2nd trimester that completely went away after a massage.  I will definitely do that again.
  • @babycolima12 there’s only 3 certified masseuses, so I’m hoping they’re not all such rule followers. Although I’m already so bloated, it might already be uncomfortable to be on my stomach.

  • Moms of multiples- I am full on freaking out. We had a plan for one, but we don’t have reliable family that can help and as thrilled as I am to be expecting 2 after 4 years of pregnancy loss and infertility, this is scary! We also live in the middle of nowhere so reliable daycare can be a problem and would add substantially to our already long commutes.
    Books to read?
    Groups to join?
I work at least 12 hour shifts and sometimes overnight. My job can be physically demanding. Should I just plan on going out at 6 months?

  • @3rdtime_charmed I can’t help with much, but I know there is a group on Facebook called Birthing Multiples Naturally, maybe they can help you find more resources beyond just birth.
  • @3rdtime_charmed you doctor might have some good resources. I’d also suggest that our multiples moms start a checkin if their own so you can share resources amongst yourselves. You’ll probably end up with moms with older twins stopping by to offer suggestions.

  • @3rdtime_charmed congratulations!!!  Look in your area to see if there are any Moms of Twins or Moms of Multiples groups. I sadly didn't discover this until after my girls were born and really wish I'd known about them sooner!  They are a great resource for all of that, fantastic support and an added perk: they usually have an annual or biannual resale where you can buy used clothes and gear that is a financial saving grace!
  • @peacebubblebaby and @BuckeyeNut05 thank you! Moms of multiples group, check! There is one about an hour from me, in the same city I will deliver, and I’ve found a bunch of great blogs already that have answered a bunch of the practicality questions.

@meggyme I’m feeling pretty bonded to the PGAL weekly check in group, but am definitely pumped there are so many of us future and current moms of multiples here!!

  • @3rdtime_charmed Congratulations and how exciting! I only have my DS right now, but I wanted to suggest Care.com- that’s how we found our nanny. We have a lot of childcare options around here, but I found a lot of accredited home daycares and nannies who I probably wouldn’t have found otherwise.
  • @chocolatelemons thank you! We are seriously considering a nanny so that I can eventually go back to work!

When did everyone have their first prenatal checkup? What about their dating scan? I was told not to go in for my first visit until 10 weeks, but I'm thinking of seeing if they'll move me up. I'm 8 weeks and my bumb/blump looks like this already (hoping it's ok to post a pic... happy HDBD!). I'm feeling like I want some confirmation that things are progressing normally, without waiting another 2+ weeks. With DS, I had appointments much earlier on - 5 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks, etc.

  • @lindseyb918 8-10 weeks is pretty standard. As for the bump/blump I’m right there with you. I know it’s mostly gas and water, but it’s also because there’s a baby under there pushing it out. And I’m already wearing my maternity shorts and I don’t care.
    DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::
  • @lindseyb918 I’m looking the exact same at 9 + 5! This is my first pregnancy. I know 10 weeks is standard but my personal opinion is that I’d never wait that long. I couldn’t do it. Just ask your doctor.... they’ll see you early! My next ultrasound isn’t until 12 weeks. I have an appointment Monday and I already called to arrange for at least a 10 week heartbeat confirmation, and an extra ultrasound if the machine is available at the time of my appointment. Maybe I’m neurotic, but that’s just me. I’ve heard too many horror stories........ I need to know what’s going on in my body. Good luck!!!
  • @indigoheightsblog just remember that you may be paying out of pocket for extra ultrasounds. Unless it is billed as being required by your doctor your insurance might not cover it. Same goes with extra appointments. Most regular visits will include at least a check of baby's heartbeat with a doppler, but unless there's a medical need they won't do an ultrasound. As long as you're not in pain or experiencing bleeding you and baby are most likely ok and you need to trust that your body (and your doctor) know what they are doing.

  • @lindseyb918 I had my first prenatal with a nurse at 7 weeks, which was purely an informational appointment. It went really quickly and they were ahead of schedule so the nurse did a quick US just to show the baby's in there and has a HB. Then I had an appointment with my midwife at 8 weeks with lots of testing. My next appointments are an US and monthly check up at week 12. I don't think it's typical to do the US at the first appointment at my clinic but I am so grateful for it because my pregnancy symptoms have been so mild that my anxiety over whether everything is ok would have been several times what it is if I had to wait until 2 weeks from now to see anything.
  • @meggyme with hardly any symptoms it’s a price I’m willing to pay! However that’s why I called to see if there would at least be a Doppler, and there will be, so we’re good! They’ll only be doing US if the machine is available. Cost or no cost, if I find out I’m pregnant at 4 weeks I’m not waiting til 10 weeks to confirm the pregnancy. That’s just my personal situation and I’m sure it’s only because I’m virtually symptomless!
  • @meggyme @indigoheightsblog @mayoduck thank you guys for the reassurance! I'll call and see if I can come in a bit sooner, even just to give the doppler a try. I'm driving myself crazy by googling all this information about molar pregnancies, and it's not really like me to be anxious like this. I'm falling so in love with my little bean, and I just want to make sure I have a viable pregnancy to this point :/
  • I use the Bump phone app, so not sure if it looks different on computer.

Silly question: what are all the little badges that we apparently “earn” & what do they all mean? Is there a key or decoder somewhere? Thanks!  :)

  • So who else has packed it on a little sooner than expected and has been asked if you're pregnant while you're out in public??  I got called out st the gym.  :(
  • A little old Italian lady asked me if it was a boy or a girl back in May (well before bfp), so I don’t think too much of friends rubbing my belly fat now that they know I’m pregnant. I’ve also already given into the maternity shorts.

  • @meggyme it wasn't exactly a friend, but she was nice so I let it slide. And I haven't quite given into the maternity shorts but I did bust out the band that you wear around the top of your pants so I can secretly walk around work all day with my pants unzipped. That felt magical.

Yup. The heart symbol has to do with how many times your posts have been "love it"ed, the check mark means someone marked their post as a question and then marked your answer as an answer, and the cake one is for anniversaries. If you're on the computer, you'll get notifications for them. You also typically have a lot more than what show up when you're posting. If you're on the computer and click to your profile, you'll see a bunch more.
  • @BuckeyeNut05 zofran doesn't make my nausea worse, but sometimes it doesn't help. I will say though that if I let myself taste it while it dissolves, that throws my stomach off until the taste goes away. I have this very careful strategy where I put it under my tongue and then swallow every couple seconds until it's gone...
  • @booksiscute am I supposed to dissolve it in my mouth??  I have been taking it like a pill. I stopped this week because it was making me more sick than without it.
  • @BuckeyeNut05 there are 2 kinds, only the “OTD” dissolves. It’s great for when you are throwing up so much you can’t keep pills down because it’s absorbed right away.

  • @BuckeyeNut05 @3rdtime_charmed I’m also taking it and not letting it dissolve. I do notice a difference during the day on it (still I don’t have an appetite but I don’t get sick either). It does seem to “wear off” at night by around 5-6 I’m back to a lot of stomach pains and dry heaving.
