Is anyone else experience a nasty mouth taste? I have found lately that i cannot fully brush my tongue because it makes me gag/throw up, so i have been making do with the best that i can, but my mouth feels gross and i feel like i have build up which is not helping my nausea. Does anyone use a tongue scraper? or have any tips or trick on this. I already am paranoid about bad breath so this is not helping LOL.
@meggyme i do that too...it just seems like now no matter what i eat or drink the taste stays in my mouth and especially since i cant scrub it out, if that makes sense LOL. i could definitely just be extra sensitive to the tastes now...but even juice leaves a nasty "film"?
Hey ladies. I’m nervous over here. I’m 10 weeks and it seems like all of my symptoms are gone. I was exhausted up until now, I was cramping throughout the day (not anything major), my breasts were so incredibly sore and I had some nausea but no morning sickness.
This is past week I’ve had crazy energy and everything has subsided.
Is this normal?? I feel like my symptoms have just stopped and that’s worries me.
@a_fauver 10 weeks is when I started turning a corner with my symptoms during my last pregnancy (morning sickness gone, etc). Seems like it is probably normal!
I’m sure I’m panicking for no reason but I’m wondering if any STM+ have ever had a fall during first trimester? I slipped on the way to my table at a restaurant tonight. I caught myself on a chair, and I only really bumped my left butt cheek... but of course all I can think about is baby. I’m totally fine, just a worried (and slightly embarrassed) mama.
@indigoheightsblog I slipped down the stairs my last pregnancy and landed really hard on my butt and knocked the wind out of myself. It hurt but everything was fine, there is plenty of padding in there for the baby and they are so small at this point. But as always you can call the nurse line if you are concerned.
@a_fauver As long as you aren’t bleeding I wouldn’t worry about it and just enjoy it! Symptoms are so different for everyone and every pregnancy. Also they are usually very up and down you may feel that some of them come back tomorrow or in a couple of days. Also like @lindseyb918 said you are getting closer to out of the first trimester.
@a_fauver my symptoms started decreasing at about 9.5 weeks. My breasts stopped hurting and my nausea was gone and I thought the worst but I had a scan at 10 weeks and everything looked great! I'm 11 weeks now and afternoon exhaustion still hits strong but my appetite is mostly back and breast soreness comes and goes. I know it's hard not to worry but don't freak yourself out reading stories about "missed miscarriages" (like I did) because it seems common for symptoms to die down or fluctuate at the end of the first trimester!
@indigoheightsblog I fell on my stomach while running during my second tri last pregnancy. They did an US because I guess with any fall they worry more about placental abruption. Honestly, I’m sure you’re fine but you may want to call just to make sure they don’t want to see you.
Spotting can be normal right? I'm about 10.5 weeks and had some bright red spotting the last 2 nights. Just once each night. I've had some cramping too but nothing different than what I've had the whole pregnancy. I never had spotting with my first two but I've read it can be normal. My last scan was at 8.5 ish weeks and everything was normal. I'm thinking I should probably call my ob tomorrow (or maybe not if it doesn't happen again?) I haven't told MH.
@cdiddy81 I would call your OB and let them know just in case they want to check you out. It’s probably nothing but better safe than sorry, right? I had spotting with my last pregnancy around 8 weeks and they had me come in for an u/s but everything was fine. ETA my spotting was probably caused by a big ovarian cyst, and they did want to monitor that because a rupture during pregnancy would suck.
@indigoheightsblog I slipped and fell badly on ice at 17 weeks. I called the nurses line and they said if no bleeding to just try to relax and wait until the next appointment for a check, that baby was really well protected in there.
However if you are going to worry yourself I’d call and even go in for peace of mind.
@cdiddy81 I second going ahead and calling your OB. I went to the ER this morning for bright red blood. Baby is just fine, but I have a subchorionic hemorrhage that just needs to be followed. Also I’m Rh- so I earned my first Rhogam shot.
@flyingmombula and @tfraz2016 thanks, I think I will call tomorrow even though it hasn't happened again (yet). I definitely won't call tonight unless something changes because I don't want to go the ER. Knowing my ob (tends to air on the side of caution) she'll probably have me come in tomorrow so I should probably find childcare for my other two since they don't know yet and because I definitely don't want to bring them with me!
eta: yup, ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow. My parents are taking my 5yo on an overnight but I'll have my 8yo. I'm thinking I'll just tell her I have an appointment and have her wait in the waiting room. She probably won't ask too many questions.
@char245@chocolatelemons@coffeeandcupcakes - thanks ladies! i actually have two appointments tomorrow - one for genetic testing/bloodwork and the other a "pow wow" at my OB's office. neither of which were supposed to include an ultrasound, but i'm going to use that as an opportunity to tell them about the slip in case they feel the need to check. fortunately i feel totally fine, which has helped me keep sane.... it sounds like some of you had way worse falls than me!!! it's true that baby is really well protected in there.
I am almost 11 weeks and I’m still very cautious after years of secondary infertility and (tw) loss. Our baby has been growing great and even ahead of schedule. The heartbeat concerns me a little, even though the doctor wasn’t concerned. At our 9 week appointment the heartbeat was around 190. With my daughter, the heart rate stayed in the 160’s. Does anyone have experience with a fast fetal heart rate? Thank you so much!
@babybliss2018 the heart rate can depend on many things, including baby’s activity and if you’d eaten any sugar recently. If your doctor wasn’t concerned try not to worry about it.
@ashley14598 not on zofran, but experiencing some constipation. My doc suggested fiber or Natural Calm magnesium supplement powder. The magnesium also is supposed to help with sleep, so I just bought some of that on amazon.

@meggyme thank you for replying! I’m taking 2 gummy fiber supplements a day, drinking tons of water, and take a magnesium pill every night (as recommended by my midwife). I could definitely up my fruits/veggies but it’s been since Sat that I have passed anything and I’m starting to get very strong stomach cramps again. I’m still dry heaving (not actually vomiting) on the zofran so I’d like to keep taking it but every time I have the “urge” it gets horribly painful.
@ashley14598 I think somebody mentioned Zofran and constipation in a different thread but I can’t find it now. I’d mention it to your doc. & when you talk to her ask if you can take a colace every day. When you start to get the urge take a warm bath, and when you’re going use a step stool or a squatty potty. Also TMI but when you’re pushing put pressure on your perineum with your hand. It really helps. I’m sorry, constipation sucks.
@babybliss2018 I had a scan at the end of 9 weeks and the fetal heart rate was also about 190. I saw my midwife the next day who told me that everything looked good, 190 wasn't far out of the 'normal' range, and they are typically only concerned about low heart rates. There really isn't much information online about 'high' heart rates in the first trimester except for a few bogus things that have proven to be false. Heart rates are supposed to be peaking towards the end of the first trimester and should decrease in the second trimester so I'd just relax and not worry about it for now - that's what I'm choosing to do!
@bug_hunter Thank you so much for the reply! I made the mistake of googling, and I should have known better. I see so many positive things and choose to dwell on the scary stuff. I go in on Friday and I’m hoping it has leveled out more...just so I can maybe relax a little (like that’s ever going to happen haha). Best wishes in your pregnancy!
@babybliss2018 I had one scary appointment my last pregnancy where the heartrate was about 197. They asked me if I’d had any coffee or caffeine that morning. I had not. Then I remembered that I’d taken an allergy pill that was deemed safe. My doc told me to get off the allergy pill right away, which I did, & from there the baby’s HR was around 176-187, normal range. She’s fine & healthy. Good luck, try not to worry.❤️
@ashley14598 My doctor definitely said if I took the zofran for an extended period, I'd get constipated. I did and I am. She recommended a stool softener if that happened--going to start taking Miralax today. I also take magnesium citrate at bedtime, right now 750mg--my nutritionist told me up to 1000mg is safe, though it's a question for your doctor, of course.
I am pooping little pebbles. On good days.
@BuckeyeNut05 Yes, it does say to let the Zofran dissolve on your tongue, which is stupid because of the horrible taste!! I did it one time and was kind of peeved no one told me! I put it *under* my tongue now.
I've seen a few questions regarding Zofran but no one else has mentioned whether there OB is cautious about it. I had to take it with my other pregnancies in 2011 and 2014 to survive but saw contradicting info has come out since then about remote risks of heart defects and cleft palatate. Given that I've already landed in the ED with hyperemesis, my OB gave the green light to use the prescription from the Ed doc. She says she is cautious about prescribing it but would rather you take it than end up back in the hospital or malnourished. This would typically make me feel fine about it, but my second daughter was born with a heart defect and while it was likely a one time anomaly not related to anything in my control, I still find myself puking instead of reaching for the Zofran . Where does your OB stand on Zofran?
@Pooka8 I’m also having really bad nausea but I cannot vomit so I don’t get any relief. (Not sure you would call it relief!) Anyway, my doc just mentioned that she could prescribe Zofran but she’d prefer to wait until after 12 weeks due to the risk of cleft palate and heart defects. This was my first time hearing about this.
She said for now it’s better to take the B6 vitamin supplement I’m already taking for nausea and then add Unisom if the B6 isn’t enough. That’s the same ingredients as Diclegis, not sure about Zofran.
@keikilove I tried a sample of bonjesta (the new formulation of extended release diclegis) and it knocked me out for the better part of 18 hours, but didn't help the nausea :-/
ETA:. I did take one dose today and was able to get groceries and feel some semblance of normal . Whatever brand they gave me taste even worse than the horrible cherry flavor I'd used in the past .
@booksiscute thanks for answering! I actually didn’t take it today and I kept everything down! I’m 11 weeks tomorrow so I’m hoping I’m near the end of it!
@Pooka8 I’m sorry to hear about your daughter! I hope she is doing okay.
@keikilove I had no appetite for several weeks and when I did eat I would vomit to the point of even vomiting bile. My midwife prescribed bonjesta for it and mentioned zofran briefly at my appointment but did not want to try it until I tried other options. After taking Bonjesta, still dry heaving, vomiting, and it made me VERY sleepy. I called the nurse on a Friday and she left a nurse with my midwife about how I was feeling. On Monday she sent a prescription to the pharmacy for me for it. I looked up the side effects, etc. because she had said she only wanted me to take it as a last resort because she was cautious with it. I figured she had decided that with how sick I am It did help me keep some food down and my appetite is slowly coming back. However I do still dry heave on a pretty regular basis (which makes me wonder if I wasn’t on it if I would be getting sick). This Saturday I was so sick with constipation and it was worse than being in labor with my son. I didn’t take the zofran today and I was able to keep down everything with no dry heaving. I’m hoping I don’t need it much anymore.
Idk if this is the right location to post this but I am in need of prayers and support. At my Dr appointment (last week)there was no heartbeat... the Dr believes I'm having a missed miscarriage. Tomorrow I am going for a second ultrasound and am praying for a miracle! I know 2 other people that were told this and ended up having healthy babies. I am asking for any and everyone to please just send prayers and positive support❤ Thank you
@ashley14598, thanks .she is a healthy happy 4 year old who sees her cardiologist annually now. She had open heart surgery to correct tetralogy of fallot at 10 weeks old with a best possible outcome. :-)
Anyone having issues refreshing our March 2019 message boards on mobile? I only get "new" notifications on desktop as of the last two days.... I've even deleted and reinstalled the app but it just keeps showing up without any "new" notifications.
I like to see what conversations have new comments in them that I might be interested in reading - but without it saying "new" next to the thread, I have no way of knowing.
@indigoheightsblog the mobile platform sucks lately, whether on the app or internet. Desktop is definitely the better of the three. Try logging out and logging in again. It might take a minute to fully log you back in, but it should fix your problem.

@indigoheightsblog as @meggyme said log out and log back in and then I’ve also had to click on “start discussion” then it asks me for my password a second time and then everything is fixed. This happens to me at least once a month...
