Super stabby at the midwife I saw. Didn’t even look at the swab to see if it was amniotic fluid. Threw it away, said if my water had broken it would be more than the amount I said I’d noticed and “I’d know”. Which, no. That’s just untrue. If I’d known she wasn’t going to test the swab I would not have wasted 4 hours of my day going in. Literally the only way we found out my water broke with DD1 was by looking at the swab under a microscope. I told her as much, and she literally didn’t even acknowledge me, just repeated what she’d said the first time, said “ok, bye!” and left before I could reply. I’m so angry. So, waiting to see if more water shows up and if it does I’ll go back. On the up side I do actually think it was probably just that Isaac punched me in the bladder a couple times and I leaked a bit each time, because I haven’t had any in a few hours. But still, that midwife can go sit on a cactus and spin.
Wow that's horribly rude of her to just dismiss you.. could you have requested to see someone else because that's unacceptable. If you do have to go back I'd tell whoever will listen that you will wait to be seen by anyone other than her again.
@DunkinDecaf that’s garbage. The true definitive test is to swab, put it on a slide and check under a microscope. The swab itself will only change colour if there is a fair amount of fluid and will miss small leaks. Definitely keep an eye on it.
Since it was an “urgent care” issue there was no choice of provider. I usually see an OB rather than a midwife anyway. I will definitely be talking to my OB about her at my next appointment and see if there’s any recourse to give feedback. The swab never changed color with DD1 because it was such a small leak. They could only see the fronding (I think that was what it was called?) under the microscope. I do actually feel confident at this point that it was just pee because I’ve had nothing for almost five hours now, so that’s what’s important anyway. Isaac was SO active today, way more than usual, so I think he might’ve punched me in the bladder and it just made a tiny bit come out and took a while to trickle down or something? Idk. That would’ve had to have happened two or three times to explain the situation but at this point it seems the most likely answer to me. That’s the only way I can reason out the “leaky” feeling I was getting earlier today.
@DunkinDecaf wow what a piece of work. So rude. Theres something to be said about 'mom instincts'. Glad it seems to be nothing serious but still...I'm sure it was hard not to smack her!
Woohooo, I just got the results from my glucose test from this morning, and I passed!! Now I can celebrate guilt free with the salted caramel brownie I brought home from the farmers market! The lovely drink for the test was just as I remembered it.. tasted like flat orange soda. Otherwise, the test was uneventful and I’m just glad that it’s behind me now.
Ugh @DunkinDecaf I’d be pissed at that midwife. That’s totally unacceptable behavior and I would definitely complain to the practice. Hopefully it was nothing though and doesn’t happen again!
@DunkinDecaf WTF I’ve literally heard stories from other moms whose water was leaking and the doctors would not believe them. It makes me stabby for you!
AFM, I rang in the 3rd Tri with my first insensitive pregnancy comment from a stranger at the grocery store who was legit twice my weight. I’m weighing in at about 200 btw, so I’m not small.
Her: Wow, you look like you’re going to pop. Me: Unfortunately, not even close. Her: Wow really, you’re going to be out to here. Me: Yup that’s how I was last time. Her: I feel bad for you.
Uhhh. WTF. First of all FWI I feel pretty damn good. Secondly, have you ever seen the belly of a woman who is “about to pop” cause mine is not close. Third, bitch your non pregnant belly is bigger than mine. Fourth, I make big babies so yeah. I‘m not even mad, but I just had so many bitchy comments I had to hold inside.
@cdepperschmidt you're better than me. I would have wanted to say "at least one of us will lose the extra weight in a few months" then give them a good look up and down and walk away. I'll never understand why people deem it okay to make comments on bump size, weight etc. If my OB isnt concerned them I'm not either, mind ya business bitch!
@DunkinDecaf I’m sorry the midwife wasn’t good. Hopefully everything is fine.
@cdepperschmidt Don’t you just love people like that? With my first pregnancy, I was sitting in the lunch room minding my own business and eating my lunch and a male coworker came in, with his belly as big as mine, and starts talking about how I need to eat healthy for the babies. I was eating homemade chili made with organic beef and lots of local, organic certified, spray free vegetables.... he was eating from the vending machine. It took everything I had not to say anything to him.
@cdepperschmidt my favorite is when you tell them when you are due and they respond are you sure? Umm yeah pretty sure.
So we decided to take a leap and hire an architect to draw up plans for our house expansion, we probably wont do any real work on it until next spring or summer but I'm already dreading it because it will affect both kids rooms. On a positive note our laundry room will be moving up to the second floor which frees up space for a mud room. I also will have a full size linen closet which right now when I open the door towels and blankets fall to the floor.

You should automatically get your birthday as a paid holiday at work (I actually know some companies do this). I shouldn't complain because I had all last week off and I'm working from home today. However, it's full of meetings and I just want to sleep.
