I’ve officially been taken off of work. I had an ultrasound Thursday that showed my cervix is getting really short. The 10%-ile for this gestation is 2.5cm long, and mine was only 2.2cm (I’ll be 26 weeks tomorrow). So far no bedrest, but I am supposed to “take it easy”. Since DS1 was a 27 weeker I was actually expecting this a bit earlier on, but I’m glad that I’m being watched closely, and that Baby is doing well!
Just got a car seat from a girl I “kinda know”. It’s a $219 car seat that was barely used and I bought it for $40. No accidents, no recalls, doesn’t expire for 4 yrs... great deal and it’s even cute! So I get it home and I’m looking at it sitting on my living room floor crying my eyes out. Don’t ask me why a car seat made it so real! I just can’t believe I finally finally get my own baby... Now if Oct would just hurry up!!!
@sliztee - I just scheduled a tour of the maternity ward at my hospital for me and my Mom. My Dad said “and a good thing too! Mom won’t let me get lost now.”
I’m pretty sure my Dad can find his way around any hospital ever (he was a hospital pharmacist his whole career).
I sent DH to get a card for the HS grad party we have today. I go to fill it out and realize it says "College Grad" and "when life gives you lemons, remember to add tequila, triple sec and salt and make margaritas". I just shook my head. he didn't realize what he did until I pointed it out. The grads mother got a good laugh out of it at least.
I was supposed to have an appointment with a particular midwife, not sure where things got screwed up. But I spent a total of 10 minutes with the OB and it was fine. I hope I like the midwife I'm seeing at my new appointment. I like the place and I'm excited to deliver there. as far as how I'm feeling: just constantly uncomfortable. I'm pretty much having contractions at least twice an hour if not more. I'm also emotional and weepy. And STILL nauseous. But as long as this baby stays safely inside, I'll be okay.

I have very little experience with babies. Right before I got pregnant I was holding someone else’s 4 month old and he stared to cry and I just got super unsure what to do. My husband so sweetly noted later on, “wow you really haven’t had much experience with babies have you.” No, I haven’t, thanks for the confidence boost. Ironically it was on this trip (before his comment) that I probably got pregnant. Anyway, since I know so little about babies I have been looking up pictures of newborns to understand just how tiny they are. The times I have seen newborns I’m always so shocked at how much smaller they are than I would expect. Also preparing myself for what a newborn looks like, vernix and all. I feel like a crazy person lol. Starting to get super nervous about being able to handle a newborn on top of al our fur babies once we come home. Had a mini meltdown today talking about my husbands plan for time off once our baby is born. Mind you I think it’s probably a really good plan he has, but the thought of him going back to work and me being in my own was all too much today. He just doesn’t understand how to deal with my emotions at all.
@rabtaido1214 - You are not alone. I can count on one hand the number of newborns I have held, and I have never spent any appreciable time around any kids under the age of 5.
I have no fucking clue what I am doing, and my plan is to take it one day at a time. I’m going with the theory that as long as baby is clean, fed, and has a safe place to sleep, everything else will come together as it goes.
@rabtaido1214 you’ve got this! It was similar with me and DH...I’m the oldest of 6 and I’ve been around babies my whole life. DH had never even seen a baby in person until DD was born, and he moved into his role as father wonderfully.
Oh my goodness, apparently I’m still trying to figure out how to parent a fur baby. (If you’re still eating dinner don’t proceed) I was walking by my male German shepherd and look down and he has a full on erection. He sticks out a lot but this was completely different. I look and there’s also a wet puddle on the floor under him which seems to have originated around the groin area- at the time assuming he peed which is so unlike him. I scream for my husband to come over because I’m thinking he has some sort of infection because it’s so swollen. My husband tries to get him to stand up and walk to make sure he is ok. He just kind of looked out of it. Eventually gets up and my husband walks him outside where he laid down again. I’m basically in tears becaus he seems out of it and must be in pain because he didn’t want to walk. I’m about ready to jump in the car to go to the emergency vet. I go outside and pet him and he lets me rub his belly and he has gone back to normal down there, despite being all wet over his stomach. I tempted him with his toy and he got up and ran around for it. By this point he seems ok and we’re putting together he must have had a wet dream?!?!? He seems fine now, sleeping but that’s normal for this time of night. Boy dogs are full of surprises...
How the fuck are we only 3 months (give or take) away from baby time? The first tri dragged so hard but the second is evaporating. I’m freaking out and making lists and then freaking out a little harder.
@rabtaido1214 I would call the vet on Monday just to be sure. Could be the start of something more serious and you might kick yourself later if you never asked. We have a male dog and never had that happen. He is neutered. He has shown his red rocket but never has it swollen or stayed out very long.
@SweetSweetTooth we will definitely keep an eye on him today and see if there’s any sign of abnormal activity down there. From when innoticed it was probably only that was for 2-3 minutes, but now sure how long before hand. The kicker is ny husband JUST had him at the vet yesterday morning for an unrelated paw thing, which didn’t end up being anything major. The vet was new to us and was really feeling him up all over and he got his rectal temp taken for the first time I’ve ever heard of for him so maybe he was having dreams about that. Really hope I don’t ever see that again!
@rabtaido1214 my son didn’t have vernix all over him when he came out. I’m guessing because he was late. IDK the weirdest thing about him was his cone head...
@rabtaido1214@cdepperschmidt Bernox is more common prior to the due date (preemies have a super thick layer). As the pregnancy progresses more of the cervix get rubbed off baby or absorbed into the skin. Post-dates babies have basically none (maybe a bit in their armpits or groin creases) and their skin starts peeling on their hands and feet because the cervix is gone.
Anyone from around the Chicago area and going or considering going to the Chicago baby show? www.chicagobabyshow.com wasn't sure if it was worth going to.
Today was crazy! We put together our glider, bought shades for the babies room, bought plants for and planted and mulched our new garden (and its BIG), made gazpacho, weeded our front yard, found a great piece of art for above our bed, bought new nightstands for our bedroom, put together our new bed and finally showered and its only 6 PM.
@kiwi2628 sounds like our day! We picked up around the house, unpacked, went out to lunch and to Michael's, DH made and mounted shelves, I did laundry and folded it all, washed and put away dishes. Now we are off to our friend's house for their pool, although I'm working for a bit.
I was using an electric shaver today to try to clean up the wookie (lady bits) I can't see and the baby got startled and didn't like the noise. He was going nuts and punching me so hard. I stopped the noise and he instantly stopped.

lol I went in for my glucose test Friday and they told me I also had an appt to see the doctor. I was like, “I do? I didn’t know that. Didn’t I just see him?” And they laughed and said “umm 6 weeks ago. He needs to check in and see how you’re doing” Whoops haha. Guess it’s a good thing they pulled me back or I would have gotten my blood drawn and left haha. If there’s no ultrasound, it apparently doesn’t hold my attention.

Does anyone else look at the July birth announcement thread and get all weepy eyed looking at the photos? That will be us pretty soon! I'm hoping for those of you with risky pregnancies it's later than sooner, take it easy mommas!
Regarding not having any baby experience, that was me with my first baby. It's not too hard to figure out. The first few months it's just boobs and sleep and crying and the occasional milk puke. If you have lots of love, support from loved ones, some common sense, and a smart phone you'll survive.

This cracked me up!
It totally needs to be on “essential baby gear” lists, but I have never seen it there before!
This is the first full month of DH being on his new salary from his change in jobs, I'm realizing just how much I need to tighten our belts. (he's getting roughly $400 less a month) Especially after our vacation. I'm really hoping some OT will present itself soon, but it's a catch-22. We want to file for a child support adjustment, but they take 2 months of check stubs and include OT. So we want to be conscious of not doing too much OT before we file (after baby comes). I guess it'll stop me from buying too much baby stuff we don't really need.

@mytrueloves sounds like a productive appt. How do you like the new provider?
Take it easy and I hope those babies stay on the inside for as long as they can.

I found a box of wooden blocks at a flea market this morning for $11. In among the blocks was a t-rex! Super excited!
