Is it bad I just planned to leave my cats home and have no intention of getting some one to check on them lol? I figure DH will probably run home at least once during the hospital stay and he can give them food/water and scoop the boxes. They can usually go 2-3 days without supervision if we remember to leave extra food/water and scoop before we leave. Poor cats are getting the shaft lol.
@zande2016 I am 100%a planner so literally upon finding out I was pregnant i had a plan for DS while we had to be at the hospital. I am not close with my bio mom but there is a lady that raised me who I call mom and she's the only one on both sides who has ever watched DS and who we trust with him. (We have lots of issues running in our families lol) so naturally we knew they would be who kept him. Well last week my mom text me that they would be out of town starting Friday and wouldn't be back for a week, so naturally my planning mind went into full freak out mode of who will keep ds. We are very close with DS best friend's family and they are super dear to our hearts so it felt right to naturally ask them as a second option and they agreed with no hassle at all and I think my son may be more excited to be with them than my mom (of course because he has someone to play with.) So all worked out well. I would say do what you are comfortable with. If you think you will be stressed during labor if your son is with your IL's then I would definitely let your mom stay at your house with ds and your pets. The last thing you want is to be worried about those things while trying to labor, especially when you want to be as focused as possible to avoid any interventions!
@moguippy we plan to do the same. We make sure the litter box is clean and set out extra food and water. We do the same when we go on vacation and if we are gone longer than 3 days we have my mom or MIL come over to clean the litter box and put out more food. Dogs are obviously different but cats can fend for themselves!

@wildtot I am bringing a small speaker to the hospital so we can have music, initially I wanted DH to bring his guitar but...let's be realistic! I can have that while we labor at home (FX that our plan works).
DH is in charge of the playlist. From what I have heard from other mamas, make sure you mix up some relaxing music and some fun, upbeat stuff, because that's what you may want to hear. You also don't need a long playlist like I think I will so I am trying to mix up genres.
I do yoga so I am into a lot of the "chanting" music, but I plan on having some of DH and I's favorites too, a few songs from our wedding, and I am sure some 80s/mew wave music because that is pretty much all that DH listens to. I swear the dude is stuck in the 80s, occasionally 90s!
@zande2016 I'm with you on the in law situation! If I were you, just have your mom watch DS. It's a lot of change to begin with so being on his regular schedule will help. Definitely take advantage of the hospital staff during labor and tell them absolutely no visitors! They will do the dirty work of keeping them away and if they want to waste their day sitting in a waiting room so be it... With my first every relative I have showed up it seemed and I was furious! My FIL heard DD was born and busted in immediately, I was naked doing skin to skin still getting stitched. This time around I know to have the nurses keep everyone away!
@moguippy my cats are getting the shaft too. DH will be stopping home from time to time, we don’t live far. But as long as their boxes are clean and they’ve got extra food they’ll be good for a couple days. Really only one of the three cats is needy for attention, but he’ll be fine.
Im worried mostly about getting our dog to my IL’s when I’m in labor, I think it won’t happen until after the baby is born depending on what time it happens. Why don’t these babies come with an instruction manual?
@zande2016 I actually just had a mild freak out this morning because we kind of have a plan for DS when the baby's born but have no plan at all for my pup... and plan for DS isn't going to work if I happen to have the baby early (because my mom may not be available). Definitely need to figure that out.
I am now starting to lean towards the safer/easier option of just having my mom stay at our house with my son and dog. I trust her and my son is comfortable with her. I just feel bad because she's been present for the birth of all her grandchildren, and I feel like she has a special bond with all of them, and paranoid me thinks she won't be as close with this one if she misses the birth. I'm just being crazy and hormonal. I have a doula this time so having 3 people in there will probably be too much anyway. Another positive to having my mom stay at my house, I know I'll come home to a really clean house. If my MIL stays here, who knows what I'll come home to. She might rearrange all my cabinets, or sell our dishes on ebay and replace them with dishes from Good Will. I'm really only half kidding...
@wildtot I plan to use the Spotify Deep Focus playlist during active labor and pushing. DH agrees it would be a good fit for me. I kind of shut down when in labor so having familiar lyrics or "fun" songs will probably just frustrate me.
For early labor I like to watch comedies, and instead of a movie I plan to watch episodes of Brooklyn 99. It keeps me focused on happy thoughts.
Hmmm maybe I should have my husband make a playlist. I honestly don't know what I'll want to listen to, or whether I'll just want quiet. Knowing myself there's a good chance I will just want quiet. But it could never hurt to have one ready in case you want it. Or even several different types of playlists ready. I also might bring my laptop and keep Gilmore Girls running on a loop during early less painful contractions because I always watch that show when I'm stressed out.
I feel second hand rage for all the ladies dealing with subway assholes.
My rant: Been sleeping in the living room for the last couple of nights while our floors get installed which has been...lovely...they’ll be done Thursday if we’re lucky and now because the devil is working overtime the air conditioner hasn’t gone out for the 4th time since we moved in less then a year ago...it’s been in the 90s down here and the “feels like” temp is 106..so there’s that. Praying baby hangs tight for another week.
Had my 37w appointment today and it’s starting to get real! OB said we’ll do a stretch and sweep next week to see if we can get things moving if baby girl is still hanging out. So I need to finish packing my bag and make sure any last minute crap I need to do is done.
In other news, this baby has officially sucked out the last of my brain power. I went to my appointment and noticed I didn’t have my wallet when I got there. No big deal, I had my new license since we just moved and I’d thrown it in my purse to put it away and they never ask for my health card. It wasn’t until I left the appointment that I remembered I had to pay for parking to get out of the lot (this is not new, I have had paid parking at my docs office since I was a toddler). Shit. MIL was babysitting the boys and doesn’t have car seats, DH and BILs were all at work as was FIL and my dad. Thankfully my mom just got cleared to drive again after her hip replacement so she was able to rescue me and lend me the stupid $6.
@kissableviv I feel like your little one always gets super active when you go to the movies, you're growing a little movie buff!
@SmashJam I admire your ability to interview for jobs right now. That's awesome! My brain is total mush right now.
I brought a glass bottle of ice water to my NST appointment. When I got up to be taken back it fell and shattered all over the floor. Glass and water everywhere. I didn't know what to do and tried picking up the mess but the girls that worked there just kept telling me not to touch it lol. It was so awkward and embarrassing.
Brain mush for sure. Yesterday I had to give the usual pee sample and I peed in the toilet instead. Today, I put on jeans on top of my shorts and forgot about it until I went to the bathroom later. I was half asleep for my 630am call!
Just found out my mom won't arrive in LA until 5pm.which actually gives me a little more time to relax before I have to drive up there, although traffic will be hell most likely...
Had a phone interview today. I think I did okay. If they select me for an in person interview, it won't be until the week of July 9...week 39. I was considering having my OB strip my membranes that week but now if my interview ends up being after my Dr appt I can't do that! They know I am pregnant and when I am due (we already work together) but I don't want to miss this interview. Oh man...hopefully baby stays put!!
@runsomewhere I'm a little worried I sounded scattered but hopefully not!
All this talk about playlists has me thinking. In transition I'm often like SHUT UP but maybe some Avett brothers would get me in a good place for labor. I connect really well with so many of their songs, I might make a playlist and have DH bring his speaker.
I’m a member of a local Facebook group that is specifically for buying and selling children’s items. Baby gear, clothes, toys etc. Some woman just posted puppies for sale. $1,300 each. She wrote in the post that they’re 4 weeks old and will be “ready to go” in 2 weeks. First, this is a totally inappropriate post for this page. But whatever. What really got me is I can’t believe she’d separate these poor puppies from their mother at 6 weeks old! This made me so angry. Then I stalked her Facebook page and saw her posting all this get rich quick scheme type stuff. And posting about gambling and trying to win big. So that makes Me question what exactly she’s doing with these dogs/puppies.
Today was DH’s last day before his sabbatical, and per usual he ran 3+ hours late coming home... Half an hour before he says he’s finally coming home he asks me to come to the store.. Come to find out, his whole staff bought us an insane amount of baby things and gift cards. I’m floored. It’s like they robbed a baby store. I don’t even know where to start getting all of it cleaned and put away
@acunamatada Christmas in...June?? Haha! So awesome!
Speaking of body after baby, a fitness instructor I know was just posting a picture of her lifting her shirt and showing her bare (and pretty flat) belly 8 days post C-section. She already has tagged #operationsnapback and #operationmombody multiple times. I'm all for lifting up other women but it really makes me cringe that after 8 days that's what you want to post. I get that for her fitness is actually part of her full time income but I still think the message she is sending can be easily misinterpreted. To each their own I suppose!
@SmashJam my first dance song was January Wedding by the Avett Brothers! We saw them open for City and Color just before we got married and looooved them.
@comealongponds that is awesome! SO many of their songs mean something to me, make me think of my alcoholic bro or loss or just getting through life. I saw them at a super small outdoor venue in September and legit cried for a couple songs because I am a nut.
@zande2016 you can actually report that post because it is against Facebook rules to sell animals on Facebook. Especially 6week old puppies. Makes me so sad.
Re “operation Snapback” I get wanting to get your old self back, but your body needs time to heal. The teacher of our prenatal class said that if you are restricting calories or burning too many calories excessively exercising you are putting your milk supply in jeopardy just to lose weight. Personally I’ll keep the few extra pounds for a little while if it means I Can keep a good supply for LO.

+1 for not really having a plan for my dog when I’m in the hospital. Is it bad that I’m just assuming my mom or father in law will come check on him each day?
@zande2016 that post seems super sketchy. I hope she’s not running a puppy mill. Those make me so sad.
@acunamatada that’s so awesome! Have fun going through it all! I’m having so much fun going through our baby shower gifts.
I’m in crazy nesting mode now that we basically have everything we need. I’m doing a little every day after work but I honestly want to take a day off work and get everything done. I organized some drawers today and I absolutely love it! I wish I could be this organized in every aspect of my life...but nope, apparently it’s jusr baby stuff lol
@ashbub714 ahh nesting. I want to clean all the things but I just want my family to not live here for a while so I can actually do it. Summer vacation is not on my side.. it literally looks like a bomb went off in my house.
@hillbillywife yeah I’ve been neglecting the rest of my house lol but if I can finish the nursery I’m sure I’ll start wanting to clean everything else. Send everyone to stay with the grandparents! Say you need a weekend to yourself before the baby
Thanks everyone. You all mean so much to me! Also apparently hormones post birth can be just as bad as during pregnancy haha I have been sweating grossly all day long haha. Can't wait until tomorrow when I can take a shower. I have been up and walking though within the last hour which is great!
I am just loving these baby coos and little cries. My daughter was so sweet and also totally disinterested with her sister haha. She totally melted my heart whe she left to go home tonight. I told her "ugga mugga Lily" which you will get if you watch daniel tiger it pretty much means I love you. She looks at me and her baby sister and says "ugga mugga baby night night."
@zande2016 My MIL sounds like yours, I'll probably come home to a messy house and things will be rearranged to how she likes them, hopefully my mom will come clean our house again before we get home like last time. But Mom will have DD and my dog at my grandmother's this time around, so probably won't have time. Oh well, when I send DH back to take care of the cats I'll make him pick up after his mom. And congrats to all the new moms this week! So exciting!
