Thanks dear, my numbers seem to have a mind of their own....lol I'm so scared to eat certain things because I'm afraid of it skyrocketing my numbers, thus leaving me still hungry....I'm perfectly ok with early induction as well..as long as hes healthy. My next OB appointment is Tuesday, so we shall see what they think.....
Ok so read that working out before a meal is supowto help the numbers vs working out after a meal... Worked out before breakfast and numbers were a little higher but nothing drastic. My lunch numbers on the other hand were lowee than they have ever been. Oy up early working out now so I can work out, shower, do some life, and then eat and see how it goes. I am NOT a morning person. Nor am I one who likes to exercise. So I am rewarding myself with bumping
Question for anyone on Glyburide: how much do you take and when? I just started two nights ago, I take one 2.5 mg tablet at night before bed and so far my fasting morning numbers are 100-101. I'm supposed to be under 90.
So I just had my follow up after going on Glyburide last Monday. My numbers are fantastic. My fasting is anywhere between 65 and 72 which is perfect for non GD people. My ultrasound went good but she is measuring 2 weeks ahead and very chunky. At this point I will be induced no later than 39 weeks. Possibly 38 + few days. She will let me try for vaginal birth but we will have to see how that goes. My BP and protein is perfect. We will do another measurement at 38 weeks and go from there. I will still get weekly ultrasounds to check on her fluid levels, breathing and movement.
Anyone else having to do both an NST and a biophysical ultrasound EVERY week?? They want me to start that next week and its seems like...a lot.
I have two NSTs every week- one at my OB, one at the hospital in the perinatal unit which includes an US to check fluid levels. Does biophysical US mean they are measuring the whole baby? We will continue with growth scans every 4 weeks.
@mygoodlucycat Not having NSTs but I do have to get an ultrasound every week. I had a biophysical yesterday and will again in 4 weeks at my 38 week appt. At that time we will plan an induction date for that week. As of yesterday baby is measuring a full 2 weeks ahead and has very large shoulders. At 38 week biophysical she will decide if I can have her vaginally or a C-section.
I'm starting weekly NST/AFI appointments next week at 34 weeks in addition to my weekly obgyn appointments. I'm 35 so I would have had to do them anyways for being wicked old.
My doctor said there would be no reason to induce early if blood glucose levels and all tests are good. But I think I'd like to set an induction date by 40 weeks anyways so I can give a definitive last day for work. I'm hoping she comes on her own shortly before that though
I have twice a week NSTs and each of those come with an ultrasound. It’s kind of insane, but at least my doctor is close by this time around with my daughter I had the same, but our doctor was over an hour away. The plan is for me to be induced at 39 weeks at the latest. Since I’ve had two vaginal deliveries, there is no plan for a csection at the moment. I’m hoping it stays that way!

I feel your pain..lol, I'm 35 as well. I'm 30+3 and we have another ultrasound in 2 weeks and start the weeky appointments as well as NSTs after that...no talk about inducing yet..since I've been doing really well with controlling my sugar with my diet! But we will see when we go back in 2 weeks!
Question: I'm 32 weeks tomorrow and I haven't had any NSTs, growth scans, or ultrasounds since before I was diagnosed with GD (my last ultrasound was at 20 weeks). I have regular check-ins with my OB every other week, but she hasn't mentioned any of these things. I haven't started on any GD meds (I will start something tomorrow after my meeting with endo, probably insulin), but I'm wondering if I should plan on at least weekly NSTs starting at 34 weeks? I'm going to ask OB tomorrow, but I'm concerned that I should be having them already.
My fasting numbers just wont come down. They keep upping my bed time insulin dose and I'm still too hight. The MFM dr is concerned and moved my growth scan up a couple days and scheduled a consult for right after because she's worried about my numbers.
@nmadjeski - it's good you're going in to check the growth/have a consult. Thinking of you, I hope that everything comes out okay. I can't imagine how frustrating it is to be on medication, and a modified diet, and still have no success with the fasting numbers. Hang in there.
@beverlystevens I’d definitely ask what the game plan is at your next appointment. I’m guessing that since you’re seeing the endo, they might be holding off until after that appointment, but you should definitely ask so you know. I know I started my NSTs at 29 weeks, which is early compared to a lot of the other ladies here but I know that I had some other risk factors that might have contributed to it. I hope you get a clear direction tomorrow
@beverlystevens I wouldn't worry about it just yet. At my 33 week follow up is when my Dr decided to start seeing me weekly. My uterine measurement was a bit over and my fasting spikes had been concerning before starting meds. I just had my first growth scan at 34 weeks and that was when they noticed she was a full 2 weeks larger. I would just see how your appt goes this time. At this point she will probably see you every two weeks anyways so that's plenty of time to still make you start going weekly if necessary. With my first daughter I also had GD but never measured large or had sugar spikes. I kept a regular OB schedule and never had a growth scan. Sometimes there is no concern if your GD is managed like my first and you won't have to do all the things some of us are doing. Just ask at your next appt! Good luck!
Thank you ladies so much! I talked to my OB yesterday and since I'm not yet on insulin they don't see a need to start weekly (or more) monitorings. However, she did say that if I start insulin then I'll begin 2x a week NSTs at 34 weeks. The baby is measuring right at 32 weeks (where I am now) so that seems good. I did see an endocrinologist yesterday for the first time as well who now has me testing for ketones every morning in case my body is using fat stores when or if my levels dip too low overnight. Which I'm not sure I totally understand since my fasting numbers have been hovering between 75-95. But in any case, I'm just going to keep taking it one day at a time and will do what I need to!
I'm starting NST's this Friday (32 weeks), and if they are anything like my first pregnancy, will probably have a quick ultrasound at each one, to measure baby, fluid levels, etc.
I saw the perinatologist on Thursday. She was a lot happier with my numbers this time around. I'll see her again in 3 weeks.
I see my OB tomorrow and we should be scheduling my c-section at that point. I'm still hoping I'll go early and will get a chance to try for a VBAC, but I'm warming up to the idea of just knowing when it will be, and going in and getting it over with.
Also planning to discuss sterilization tomorrow, because two high risk pregnancies are enough for me!
@BrittanyCupcakes yay for good numbers!! I feel you on being done. All three of my pregnancies have been high risk (the other two towards the end, this one from the get go). My husband is getting snipped though. I’ve done enough. I get an ultrasound at each of my NSTs. I have so many pictures of this kid, I can make a slide show already.
32w4d I saw the MFM Dr today and she was happy with my numbers aside from my fasting. They upped my bedtime insulin dose significantly. She insisted that I go out of work because with my schedule, and the shit show that work has been, she feels I'll be able to get things more under control.
Baby is measuring 3 weeks ahead and I will begin weekly growth scans and NST starting this week.
This is my second high risk pregnancy as well and I have already signed the consent form for sterilization. We have a growth scan next Tuesday (32 weeks) and are supposed to start NSTs at 33 weeks....the baby has been measuring about 2 weeks ahead at each visit but talk about inducing yet.... hopefully we will get to talk about that on Tuesday....
Sitting at the 3 hour glucose test right now. I was dizzy before I even came in and I had GD with my last pregnancy so I fully expect that I’ll have it this time too. *fingers crossed* it can be controlled with diet like I could last time.
Went to my 35 week appt on Monday. Baby was doing well and doing all the things she was supposed to. Fluid levels were good. Next growth scan will be at 38 weeks and we will plan the induction. Still hoping for a vaginal birth at this point. Went to the Chiropractor today to start getting my hips in line. Aw: Here's a little sneak peak at Callie Jo. She was very sleepy yesterday and wouldn't move her hands away from her face lol
Had my 34-week appt. Just a regular short one. Belly is measuring at 32 weeks, but they didn't seem concerned at all. I have another growth scan in 2 weeks, and she said I'll probably start the NSTs then. It's a little worrying that she's so small and I just hope she keeps growing, but I'll try not to worry until the doc does. Just can't wait for the next growth scan. But my #s look good, so I'm just continuing on with that.
My doc did mention something about around 34 to 36 weeks, that I could start trying to hand express some colostrum if I can into little syringes, and freezing it. Because after baby is born and her sugars may be low and out of whack, they can give her that instead of formula or donor milk, if she had to be in NICU or needed to be supplemented. Anyone heard of this? She said it's kind of big in Australia and starting to come around here for babies with GD. I don't even know if I could get out any yet.
I never heard of that! My first was born with low blood sugar and I couldn't produce enough colostrum so we used formula to supplement. I mainly breastfed for the first 4 months but once I started working we supplemented with more formula because I couldn't find the time to pump enough. So I guess give it a try but if you can't produce enough and have to use formula, don't feel bad, baby will be healthy either way.
@jwebbbber45678 Id never heard of it and didn’t even think it wasn’t possible, but I guess it makes sense, even in little amounts. Kind of scared to try though, so I might wait a while longer. But I haven’t had any leaks or crusties or anything yet, so I didn’t even think about it being ready.
I had someone tell me I could start trying to pump when I want if I'm leaking, but to be warned that it could trigger contractions and put me into labor.
UGH. I am not OK. Got the call this morning that they want me me to add a morning shot (I already do nightly shots) because of my after-lunch numbers. I am PISSED. I am barely eating carbs as it is because I do not want more than one shot a day! I can't do them myself, my husband does them, that is not changing. I also no not know what the f-ing point is - for real. The goal is for me to not have a big baby - ok! I won't. Baby is measuring normal size. I haven't gained any weight since 28 weeks. Last baby with GD was under 8 lbs. This is dumb and I hate it. /endrant.
@mygoodlucycat having extra sugar in your blood is damaging to the placenta. Picture crystals of sugar. They have sharp edges and damage vessel walls. By having high sugars you’re more likely to have placental failure, which compromises blood flow to baby and *Trigger Warning* is associated with stillbirth. It sucks and it’s hard, but there is a reason.
Great news! I found a sugar free chocolate bar at the grocery store. It uses Stevia instead and it was actually delicious! I tested my blood an hour after to be sure and it was 104! This was the first chocolate, sweet thing I've had in two months! I ate half the bar, it was glorious!
Re: Gestational diabetes mamas
I take 5mg every night and my fasting numbers are lower than 72 every morning now. It's been working great for me.
