@runsomewhere I really like Soren, it's different! Our picks so far are Maia Eleonor for a girl and Finn for a boy, we have no middle name for that one yet
Love it, @kissableviv! Maya (with a different spelling) is in the running for us if we have a girl. Finn sounds like a fine name. I don't have any middle names yet, we're waiting to learn the sex of our baby.
Still don't know what we're having yet, but currently thinking Katelyn Barbara for a girl or Elliot Charles for a boy. MNs are baby's grandparents FNs.
DD is Isabella (nn Isa like ee-sah) and DS is Julian.

@LadyJ2949 I can't remember--- do you announce names before birth? We are having a difficult time figuring out an either/or name with Sutton. I want to in order to have a hat made, but we are strong in a girls name and strong on a boys name. I don't want to get two hats though!
Eta: LadyJ and I were active on the bump bmb with our first and have met IRL.
We currently have Aurora (Zacari), Archer (Grey), Adley (Sage) and Aspen (Vera). Not set on a girl name yet but we like Ayven and Aeris. If baby is a boy he will be Abram (Abe) Wolf. Wolf is my grandmas maiden name. Can’t wait to find out in February!
Far behind on this thread. So DH wants another western name for DS#2. I like Jace and Levi but he’s not much for them. He likes Bohanon(?spelling - guy from Hell on Wheels) which i said was ok for a middle name. Axel was his grandpas name which i kinda like. We like Wesley but a close friend took that for their recent baby. It’s so hard picking names!
@wildtot Axel Bohannon is a really cool and unique name! Our daughter was almost Emmy Lou but I’m not quite as country as my H is so I couldn’t get behind it fully lol.
@hillbillywife@christycalifornia thanks strong is what I’m looking for! We also want something uncommon to continue the trend both my first and middle are super uncommon. So now we are at Levi Bohannon right now. DS1 is Wyatt Connor.
Girl: Charlie Jeanne (Jeanne is my mom's middle name) Boy: David Eugene (for my husband's two grandfathers)
We've decided we aren't telling anyone in advance because my in-laws have already expressed their dislike of "unisex" names. But I grew up going by Sam and really liked it. Plus I LOVE the idea of baby girl Charlie.
@samjjorgensen I love Charlie Jeanne! It’s adorable without being overly adorable - that makes no sense, right? But I absolutely love unisex names on girls so it’s not a surprise I’d love it.
We are most likely doing Cameron Jean (Jean was my maternal grandmother’s middle name) for a girl.
Lab Mom (x2): Sept/Oct 2014 Married: August 2015 DS: Nov 2016 (36w) Baby H #2: July2018 (Team Pink!)
@hillbillywife I love Dane too! Unfortunately for me, my DH played baseball all the way through College. Which means he hates so many boys names. Kent, Jake, Collin, Jordan... etc he hates all of them because of negative association.
I was supposed to be Stacy! But my mom said it reminded her too much of a girl in HS. Ugh!!!
@KellyFM522 ah bummer! We have a hard time with names too. We live in the same town that my H was born and raised and HIS dad was born and raised (and so on) so he knows EVERYONE around here and that includes a lot of names. It’s hard to find one without an association. It’s kind of irritating sometimes lol
@KellyFM522 So many names have been thrown out for us! But, I'll admit, I'm usually the culprit. I'm a teacher and I feel like every name reminds me of a student I've had.
We've finally settled on Benjamin for a boy and Arden for a girl, but I love looking at this board for inspiration. So many original names!
@kellyfm522 yes! I happen to know many DOGS that are ruining my favorte baby names. Bella, Chloe, Max, all cool names but belong to dogs I know. DH LOVES Isabella so much, we will Likely go with it even though I'd probably want to use the nick name Bella which is a Labrador I know. Also, I don't like that there are already two isabellas on our block.
DH wants Matthew, I think it's a beautiful solid name but I know 6 Matthew/Matts.
@babykakie my DD is Isabella and because I can't stand the Twilight books, I refuse to use the nickname Bella. We call her Isa (EE-sah) instead.
@kellyfm522, the only names that have been ruined for us were Jacob (again, F-ing Twilight), and Amber (which was the name our dog came with). I've always loved the name Jacob but couldn't do Isabella and Jacob for our children because, you know. And my husband always loved the name Amber but our dog is still living and that would have been weird, haha. The name Lisa is also off the table for me because it's the name of the girl that stole my husband from me back in the early days of us dating.
Besides those, I'm open to naming our children whatever we like because I figure that the associations eventually wear off--you'll know your kid for being your kid, not for the person who shares their name, does that make sense? Choosing names is hard enough without taking great ones off the table because you used to know someone with that name.
FWIW, we're considering Katelyn if this is a girl, which just happens to be the name of our next door neighbor's daughter! We're not naming the baby after her--they'll just share the same name like every other Katelyn out there.
@flockofmoosen3 You don't mind your neighbor having the same name, so maybe I shouldn't mind the kids on the block having our name choice as much either. My Husband says, its a beautiful name so who cares. He loves it so much, I feel bad to veto it. I actually first suggested isabella before realizing its popularity in our neighborhood. Isa is very cute. One of the girls by us goes by Izzy. I love all the nick name possibilities.
I never paid any attention or had interest in Twilight so I am completely uninfluenced by the series. Funny thing is, my wedding song was from the movie. Lol, maybe I subconsciously like Twilight but don't even know it.
I guess Isabella became so popular because of Twilight, right? I only knew one in school, but I grew up I'm Italy and the short is usually Isa for us.
We now know it's a boy and the name game is so much more difficult for me. Oliver is currently in the running. I excluded Logan because I associate it with arrogance for some reason. Connor and Colin are now meh.
Benjamin and Sebastian and two new entries I like. I also still love Giacomo, Tommaso, and Lorenzo (would love an Italian name) but DH is not convinced. We also like Lucas but I could tell my mom hated it, lol.
@elizabethrn87 I love Estelle hubby won’t go for it though love all the classic boy names listed on here too. Nathan is my forever boy name regardless of what hubby says.
@kissableviv Giacomo I love! I actually love a lot of Italian names, but am not Italian at all - I married into an Italian family so we have the last name to go with them. I'm just not sure I'm brave enough to pull the trigger on it. The closest we've gotten is Dominic for DS2
@kissableviv when we were expecting my son my mom begged us to name him Lorenzo, haha! She's always loved the name, but we weren't sold on it--too Italian for our fairly ethnically mixed family.
@julybabybear ugh! Being a teacher must be so hard!!! So many snotty kids out there to ruin really great names.
@babybakie we caught some slack for naming our son Duke, it's coming up in popularity now, but people made a specific effort to tell us ALL the dogs they knew named Duke.
@flockofmoosen3 our family KNEW before we had our daughter that her name was going to be Scarlett. My brother in law got a Guinea Pig for Christmas and named it Scarlett, while I was still pregnant. I said screw it! She is still Scarlett, the guinea pig died this year and I wasn't upset about it.
@KellyFM522 I’ve been told many times that they have or have heard of pets named Mitzi (my first name) but they are always spelled the same. I don’t mind it though. I like my weird names lol edit words
@wildtot I love uncommon names. I would have 12 kids if I could convince DH just to let me name them all.
Bernard, not uncommon just old fashioned now Philadelphia, there is an old Shirley Temple movie (Fort Apache 1948) and her characters name is Philadelphia. So many good nick names. Philly, Del, Della, Phia etc. Victory or Valerius Cinncinatus (my family tree is filled with some serious gems)
I obviously would not saddle a baby with some of these, Kindergarten would be torture. But I can dream.
I’m a big fan of “boy” names for girls and have been sort of stuck on using DH’s middle name (and one that gets passed down in his fam) for a girl. Plus my middle and family name for the middle name. So it would be Carter Ann.
We now have a few names actually on the list, but all of them are meh.. ok.. nothing has been YES! Yet. I am absolutely in love with the name June for a girl but hubby isnt sold yet. We kind of like Millie/Miliana, Aurora (nn: Rory), and Elena (nn: Elle/Ellie)
Boys, I've always loved Sam/Samuel, but again hubbys like maaaaybe.. and we both kind of like Solomon.
Thank goodness we have 6more months, names are so hard for us
My husband is Danish and only wants a Danish name. I agreed as long as I like the name too. girls: these are all maybes ... he doesn’t know about some of them haha. Liv Bella Clara Ella (but mother in laws dog is Stella so maybe not) Lea josephine
boys: Jaxon he doesn’t approve but I love it ❤️ Jakob Aleksander
we might have to have him choose one child’s name and me choose the other since we really don’t agree on AnYthing! Haha
We knew the initials we wanted before we knew we were pregnant. So no matter what, any potential child would have the initials H.G. because we both love H.G. Wells (Ann Veronica and History of Mr Polly are both worthwhile reads)
Two first names because we wanted a name family on both sides of the Pacific can say. FIL and my family here cannot say Japanese names at all, and MIL and her family in Tokyo can't say my name at all. So instead of going with something too easy to say, we've decided two first names and then MIL's maiden name for a middle name because our last name is really really generic. We also wanted to give LO the chance to decide which cultural identity feels most comfortable, we're hoping both backgrounds. But this way family in Japan can just use the Japanese name and family here can either figure out how to say the name right or use H.G. or just the G part of the name.
Girl: Hinata Gwen Boy: Hotaru Graeme
Hinata means Sunflower or a place in the sun. And Hotaru means firefly, it is often used for girls, but it is actually a unisex name. MIL is hoping we have a boy because she loves the name and the kanji for it better.
In either case, because we're (well I am) team green, we refer to baby as H.G., Mercury (Hg on the periodic table) or Higgs (Higgs boson). Sorry kid, you're being born into a science and sci-fi loving home!
@MyBell524 Solomon is cute! Maybe it's just the area I live in, but I don't know ANY kids with that name so around here he would definitely not have to add his last initial in class so everyone knows which Solomon! And your nn for Aurora is adorable! Love it!
Re: Names?!?

Anyone else have names that have been ruined?

DH wants Matthew, I think it's a beautiful solid name but I know 6 Matthew/Matts.
@wildtot @hillbillywife Axel and Duke are seriously cool boys names!
I wish DH and I could find and agree on name that is unusual but doesn't sound too unusual.
@kellyfm522, the only names that have been ruined for us were Jacob (again, F-ing Twilight), and Amber (which was the name our dog came with).
