@Squirtgun Omg no but he made a 15-tab spreadsheet as soon as we found out we were pregnant! Tabs for 1st, 2nd, 3rd trimester checklists, house improvements, hospital bag list, Call list for when LO is born, first year cost, childbirth cost, etc! It's been a real life-saver! Admittedly, we're both slightly obsessed with organization & lists...

Ooh, I would have loved to have seen his spread sheet. Mine is only 4 tabs, lol.
Has anyone else been experiencing painful movements when baby moves? It's like every time this kid moves now if it just super painful. And for the past two nights I have had back pain like when I had back labor with DD, only it doesn't come in waves.
I already talked to my doctor and he said it's normal pregnancy stuff, but to let him know if I start having contractions. I never had contractions until my induction, or BH, with DD so I don't really know what this is.

Wow, I wish my DH liked SOME organization. He does care about having a clean home, so I can't complain much. But when it comes to planning and organizing, it's all on me to do it. He has more recently gotten into adding/crossing off things on our ongoing to do list on our dry erase board. Sadly there are a couple things that have been there since last summer.
Anyone's husband making PowerPoint presentations to help you decide baby's name?
I think its so weird how things keep getting brought up on here that are happening in my life. My husband made a PowerPoint presentation last week about what new car we should buy, I was just telling me coworkers about this 20 minutes ago at lunch! lol how funny.
Ok, two questions. First, I sterilized our baby bottles in boiling water for 5 minutes, like the instructions said. Now they have little scuff marks on the outside. Is this a problem? I don't know what happened!
Second, how the heck do you get water out of the inside of pacifiers? I'm feeling like such a FTM right now.
Here's my FTM question piggybacking off yours: Once you have all of these sterilized parts, you don't put them away in a sterile environment. We've been putting parts and pieces in gallon sized ziploc bags. Am I missing something?
@jayandaplus The main reason to sterilize new baby stuff before you use it is to get rid of any foreign bacteria or other harmful particulates. Once the items are then in your own home, they should only be coming into contact with "normal" bacteria that is good for your baby to come into contact with anyways. So, there's really not a need to keep them in a sterile environment after that first deep clean.

Yes to all of it. I have been getting labor-like pains, including painful BHCs, for a couple of weeks now. Except there is no pattern or regular contractions so I think it's probably pretty normal. I also wouldn't worry about not being able to recognize contractions. Even to the most oblivious person, once you are far enough into labor you will know. Contractions that are not obvious enough are probably part of pre-labor or just the beginning of labor, if even, and will intensify soon enough if it's real labor.

@jayandaplus - Once my bottle parts are all dry, I go ahead and assemble them (with clean hands!) and put the lids on. Then, I feel like none of the important parts are exposed. We have a large, rubbermaid drawer that sits in our pantry for bottles and pump parts.
Adding this to the randoms because it doesn't really belong anywhere else--I just found out that any baby born before 38 weeks at our hospital qualifies for a home visit from a nurse to check on weight/vitals/baby/mom within the first week of discharge. I don't really feel like we need it this time (although I will totally use it), but with my first I would have been thrilled about the visit (specifically to check in on his weight and feeding) and I wish more hospitals would do that.
@achays11, before my baby moved to the outside, the movements were super painful and annoying.
@jayandaplus, agreed with others--sterilizing once should be fine!
So I had my 36 week appointment today and had a cervix check (I'm a FTM), man oh man, you ladies weren't kidding about how uncomfortable those checks are. YIKES!!
@starphish18@jayandaplus I don't sterilize in the beginning I just run all bottles and pacifiers through dishwasher once and put away. Once baby is here I hand wash everything and only use the dishwasher maybe every 2 weeks on everything. I think the only time I sterilized was after DD was sick with RSV when she was about 6 months old.
Moms who have kiddos less than two years apart, did you have the toddlers visit at the hospital or just wait until everyone got home? We were originally planning on DH bringing DS on day two (planned CS, so it'll be two or three nights), but now I'm wondering if it might be better to just wait until we get home instead. What worked well for your toddlers?

You're supposed to sterilise, put the lids on the bottles and then keep them in the fridge

It really doesn't comprehend to me how you guys pay so much for medical care but home visits aren't standard practice there! We get 2 at least and if you ask for it you can get up to 3 more! But then besides the 6 week checkup for mum & baby (plus vaccinations) there are no other check ups that are required after birth

@saric83 when DS 2 was born, my husband brought DS 1, who was 23 months at the time, to visit for a little bit at the hospital. He was maybe entertained for a half hour and then went back home.
@PartiallyDomesticated: I've NEVER heard of ANYone getting a home visit. I was really surprised when @Kipperoo mentioned that earlier. Don't get me wrong, it's a really great benefit, and more people should have access to that level of care, but you have to understand that it's the EXCEPTION to the rule and so far beyond any sort of standard level of care here. I'd say that in the last 5 years, between cousins, coworkers, and friends having babies (like 3 dozen ladies, and in diff geographic locales), NONE have ever had that type of nurse's home visit. Zero.
@PartiallyDomesticated and @SKZW- Home visits are standard here (Minnesota) with most insurances. It's somewhat recent, but all of my mom friends have gotten them.

Ditto for me (also in MN)! It was awesome to have someone come out a few days after we were home.
@saric83 I hadn't even thought of waiting until I got home for DS to meet baby, but that might be the best bet. He will be 21mo and is really ramping up his fits when we go places, so I can't imagine it will be fun to have him at the hospital. Man I hadn't actually imagined his visit or how to best introduce him to baby. Thanks for getting me thinking about that.
@SKZW see, that baffles me, even remote locations here they will try hard to get a midwife to do at least one home visit. I thought it was a great service and would have opted for it even if I had to pay for it, even just for the fact they could do the heel prick test at home, and you could get breast feeding advice and guidance in your own home where you actually feel comfortable. from memory, the visits were 2-3 days after discharge, another 6-7 days after discharge, then you could have the other optional visits any time after, before 6 weeks. I don't know a single woman that has opted out of the visits or someone who hasn't loved them.

This would be so helpful. I remember having to bring DS in 3 TIMES our first week at home for weight and bilirubin checks. It was so difficult especially when trying to establish a routine at home.
Continuing the home visit convo...I'm in the Boston area and I had never heard of a home visit either. I delivered my son at a hospital in the city where with this one I'm slightly in the suburbs--it seems to be a policy specific to this hospital. I would have loved a home visit with my son and definitely won't turn this one down. The first week I spent always so nerve wracking not knowing if they are eating and gaining properly. It really does seem like something that should be more standard.
I am excited to get home and also a little anxious about how DS will react. My parents kept him home from daycare today and are taking him to the aquarium this morning. Hoping the visiting grandparents distraction keeps him happy this afternoon.
I know I've mentioned this in multiple posts, but I still honestly can't believe my 36 weeker has passed every hospital test with flying colors...it's such a relief after such a long stretch of worrying about the inevitable early delivery.
@Kipperoo: Are you & Estelle headed home today already?! Wow. My FX for good luck with your son acclimating to the new normal, and it's so great for her passing all the tests, hooray!
I feel like someone here said that they were Jewish, but I can't remember who! We got a book at the used book store that had this website on the back. The book was great, so I checked out the website. Apparently they send free books to Jewish children!! Super cool!
@Kipperoo I'm south of Boston. After my second, I went home after one day in the hospital. Because my insurance covered two nights, they offered to send a nurse home to check on us the next day. I actually ended up declining it because we really just wanted to be home and relaxing with our family.

@WombThereItIs not sure if anyone said this because I haven't read all the comments yet but the sonata is a purchase only pump. No Insurance is covering it and this is straight from medela's mouth. If you can speak to your company they may have a certain dollar amount they allow to cover and then you can get the sonata paid partially from that money and then you would have to pay the remainder. I looked into this back in jan when I heard about the sonata.
@Yiggle09 thanks for passing this info along. You saved me (and I'm sure others) from a wild goose chase. This was my exact plan today so I'm glad you posted this.
Any ideas about the Spectra? That was my back up option
@Yiggle09 I figured it is worth a go. For Tricare there is an option to purchase and apply for reimbursement so if they pay, cool, otherwise I am fine with eating the cost. I bought a Medela PISA out of pocket last time so I wasn't expecting anything this round.
@Yiggle09 I purchased the sonata this time. Insurance said I had $450 to use on whatever pump I wanted and to just submit a reimbursement and they would cover it
