Re: Randoms and Questions 4.10 - 4.14

  • With belly binders/corsets, how do you best go about figuring which size to get? I assume you'd want smaller than our current belly size, but not pre-pregnant size (since we'll still have some belly). Do I just kind of estimate in between?
  • Loading the player...
  • @starphish18 I had a CS, but they gave me a Velcro band. That way you could tighten it as needed.
  • @starphish18 The bellefit website has a questionnaire that helps determine the size you will need. Maybe other binder companies would have something similar.

  • With those bellefit binders wouldn't that make going pee and changing pads a pain in the butt?

I was looking at the belly bandit one because it doesn't go over your crotch.

  • @nda_roxybabe - I have just discovered that Chick-fil-A has good ice now. It's not QUITE as good as Sonic, but sufficiently 'good.' I have been buying it by the bag and drive through almost every day for a large cup for ice (which costs ZERO DOLLARS!!!).
  • @hp_momma I think you got your pump through a supplier, right? Did your doc suggest you use them for a reason? Supply sites are only showing me 4 options but Tricare said (I read and called) that any double electric is OK...?

I want the Medela Sonata which isn't showing up but in theory it should work? My doc isn't really sure how it all works either so I may just buy what I want and submit for reimbursement then see what happens. So weird.

My doctor had no advice for me ha. He just said "here is your RX I think you can take it wherever you want". So I had to do my own research via my best friend google.
I used BabyPavillion because they were the only ones who were approving the Spectra S1 upgrade with no extra costs.
TheBreastfeedingShop and PumpingEssentials were other Tricare approved companies I looked at and they seemed to have a big list of approved pumps! I can't remember which company @bacorrea went through...
I heard from Tricare that any double electric was ok as well as long as that's what your RX said. So if none of the companies have what you want, you should be able to just do the reimbursement form!

  • My newest craving: Coke with the "good" ice. I can't get enough, yum!
    I'm unbelievable jealous right now.
  • Is anyone dealing with dry, itchy eyes?  I can't figure out if it is pregnancy (I read online that can happen), allergies (I've never had allergies before here, but it is the season), or something else.  If you're experiencing this, what do you do for relief?  It's driving me crazy!

@RainyDays86  I've had itchy eyes the past few days, but I believe it is allergy related.  We had two beautiful days here in upstate NY (low 70's/80's) which made things worse.  I take a 24 hour OTC allergy pill, which I can tell you the name of when I get home.

  • @WombThereItIs, I have no intention of doing perineal massage. I hope I don't regret it, but I haven't heard anyone recommend it strongly enough for me to bother.

@RainyDays86, I think dry eyes can be a symptom of pregnancy (because what isn't?) but my dry eyes are allergy related. I use Systane Ultra eye drops. 4 - 6 times a day is a good amount. Make sure you're just getting lubricating eye drops and not anything medicated or specific to allergies. I made the mistake of getting an allergy specific one once and it made my eyes much worse. My eye doctor was pissed!

  • @RainyDays86 I have started to get itchy eyes but mine are allergy related. Can't take my normal steroid drops so trying a regular allergy drop (Dr said ok) and it's slightly helping but not much. Hope yours is just pregnancy related and can be treated with lubricating drops.
  • @jayandaplus sorry it took me so long to respond! So I guess it's pretty common practice with midwives and the hospital nurses here.

She said to bring a unopened bottle of olive oil with us to the hospital (the OBs want it to be a brand new bottle). When we get close to transition, either the nurse or midwife will take the metal bowl from under the sink in the hospital room and fill it halfway with hot water and and a few tbsp of the oil. Then they'll add a few sheets of the disposable cloths. She was said that when the baby gets closer to crowning, you apply the compress to the perineum in between pushes. Then the cloth gets disposed of after each use. Because the water cools quickly you need to change it pretty often, hence the whole bottle of oil.

She said adding the oil to the hot water was more effective than water alone at keeping the tissues from tearing.

  • @RainyDays86 agreed the allergy drops burn because they have antihistamines in them. If regular wetting drops aren't cutting it Refresh Celluvisc is amazing. Husband used them after his eye surgery. They are thick (hence visc like viscous) but after you blink a few times your vision clears up and they last quite a while.

@SKZW It might have been me. I had the corset. Which one is the girdle?
@Louise_Belcher: Thank you for replying. Take a look at this one: This bundle contains a dual-closure girdle (the one with the hooks in front and zipper at side) and also a corset (just front hooks). I'm thinking it might just be a mixed-nomenclature-usage thing, where there's not a huge difference? On the main bundle page, there's combos of girdles and corsets (some are just pull-up, some with zippers, etc.) and I just can't see what the difference is...

SKZW <--- spent WAY too much brain power on this today... and still can't figure it out...  :#

@bacorrea: thanks for the reply  :)

@jayandaplus: I appreciate the rec for the belly butter!

Re eye drops: I agree with PP that you're best off using lubricating drops without meds as a first thing to try, then moving on to an allergy-specific type if that's the likely culprit.
*If you get zero relief from any type, with an increased discomfort when first putting the drops in, then look for preservative-free drops. They are pricey and come in small single-use vials (because once they're opened...) but I know a few people who use them simply because all other drops make matters worse for them, and they need the relief of the dry/itchyness, so it's worth the price. Also, more is better when it comes to eyes. (Follow the package inserts, obvi, but a more-frequent use throughout the day helps heal things faster.)

@Jens_Hoes: We had those 2 gorgeous days here in Mass too! I think Sunday and Monday will be in the 70s again.  :)
  • My midwives have used oil of some kind during crowning for both of my kids.  They support the perineum and encourage controlled pushes at that stage.  I had a 10 pounder with minimal tearing... probably because my contraction stalled mid-push and he was crowning until my next one.

  • @bacorrea yeah, I don't know how I'll feel about it in the moment, but I guess it's pretty standard practice here now. I had never heard of it before (most of my friends have long stopped having kids) so I don't know anyone who's had it done. In any case, it's an interesting concept.

  • @SKZW Okay I see what you are talking about. Yeah I think they do the same thing it's just preference on how you want to get in to it. I personally did not want a zipper on the side. Zippers do not bend easily and I'm not straight from hip to ribs and it would be more likely to bow into the body at the natural waist and be uncomfortable. Looking at pics of non-models in each of the styles made me think the zipper wouldn't be for me.

@WombThereItIs It did make for an extra step because you have to undo the crotch and roll it up out of the way. But it was pretty quick. Getting the hook and eye back together was probably the more challenging part but still not bad, but there was a period of my life that had a lot of bodysuits so maybe I'm just well practiced  :D

@Louise_Belcher: That's a really good point about the zipper's bending/conforming. I have a little love-handle thing happening, and that might make a side closure more difficult. TY! I hadn't thought about that...

Funny thing about the bodysuits, I think they are making a legit fashion comeback? Please tell me I'm wrong. They can firmly stay with dance-lesson me back in 1988.

Ladies thank you for the Zantac advice! You may very well have saved my nights going forward. I tend to be somewhat of a suffer through it person for some dumb reason but I'm definitely going to get the 150mg.  :)

@Louise_Belcher @SKZW I'm sorry to report to you that they are definitely coming back HARD. I spend my days drawing technical sketches of garments for a lingerie/lounge company and they are ALL IN on the bodysuit trend for upcoming production...they even have an entire capsule called "The Body Zone". So... :/

@sweaterboots & @SKZW Oh I am definitely seeing the bodysuits in stores again! Not gonna lie I could see me getting one at some point if I really wanted a tucked in look, but the flood of wedgie memories is coming back so maybe not! Plus they only look good with stirrup pants, scrunchy socks, and work boots  :p
LOL. But OMG. Do not even put that out into the universe! We'll be seeing it everywhere!
  • You know what socks I miss? The ones with the crocheted tops with the triangle beads. Those were the bomb.
  • BH can be quite painful, right? I am thinking that was what I had going on in the middle of the night. I woke up with horrible cramp like feelings. At first I thought it was just a stomachache, but as I woke more I realized it was making my stomach tight. They hurt though!

  • @nda_roxybabe I think they can sometimes be painful and sometimes not! The times that I think I've had them, they've been painful. Nothing horrible, just really uncomfortable tightness in my stomach and then my back sometimes.
