Maybe mine is at 36 weeks and I just don't know what I'm talking about.
For those SAHM (or part-timers or anyone), any suggestions on how to meet other moms with babies? There aren't any good meetups in my area (Raleigh, why not?!) I'm terrible at navigating facebook. Aside from just going to parks and mingling, any suggestions for finding meet ups/groups?
@yiggle09 I went for an appointment last night and they said at the next appointment they do the swab. I'll be 34 weeks
I wish my hospital would let us preregister like most of you. On the phone they said its not necessary but I can tell you that yes it is! I had to keep taking breaks while completing paperwork because of contractions.
Probably a silly question, but does anyone else find it ridiculous difficult to bend down? I've been doing that a lot because of the move and man does it take it out of me! It's not comfortable and kind of hurts after awhile, nothing painful enough to warrant anything, by I definitely need to sit/lay down. I started making H put stuff away that was in the bottom cupboards. I just want to unpack! I hate our place in so much disarray!

@BabyMC517 I haven't been able to truly "bend down" in months. I just physically can't...my belly stops me at a certain point. I've resorted to squatting.
@jayandaplus I would check out baby classes at your local library which can be a great way to meet other moms. Also I have heard good things about MOPS groups. They're religiously-affiliated so if that's not your thing you may want to check out your local chapter. I've heard some are very religious and others aren't. You can also try just googling mom's groups or mom's workout groups (if that's your thing) in your specific part of town. I wanted a workout group and ended up finding a great group called Stroller Strides (I think they're all over the country) that was my lifeline when I stayed home with DS.
+1 for no more bending over. It's way too uncomfortable these days.

I didn't have any mom friends with my first. When we moved it was my top priority to change that. It's so important to connect with other mamas. I only had one friend with kids and she was 45 min away. I looked into local churches and found my MOPS group which was amazing. Also I made it a point to meet the neighborhood moms and now my closest friend lives right across the street with her little girl. It's kind of hard to put yourself out there but you have to do it for your sanity. My BF has met so many close friends in such random ways, at the park, the store, etc. she just makes conversation and if she hits it off with someone they stay connected and it's given her an amazing group of mom friends.
I just have a funny story about the Strep B swab. With DS1 being a 30 weeker, I never got to 35 weeks so I didn't know anything about it. With DS2, I arrived at my 35 week appointment and the nurse mentioned something about strep b. I assumed it was a vaccine and raised my sleeve so she had good access to my arm. She politely laughed then explained it was a vaginal swab. I felt so silly.
Re: pre reg. I was given a pre registration paperwork at the tour. It's filled out and put it in a ziplock bag with a couple of checks (for birth certificate) packed in my hospital bag.
Re: I can't bend over. I haven't been able to for probably a month.
@jayandaplus +1 to MOPS. If you're religious at all church is a great way to meet people. Also stopping and talking to people in the neighborhood. +1 to library. I think the biggest thing is that you have to put yourself out there and just try different things out. I know one of my friends met another one of her mom friends at the Y. Also I know with my last BMB lots of people met up after we went to Hogwarts.
@jkp7749 yes, I am having a scheduled c section this time and they are still doing one. I believe they do it "just in case" because you truly never know what could happen.
Re preregistration- I'm super annoyed because my hospital doesn't do this any more. I had preregistered with both of my girls, and when I went to the website to fill out the forms this time, I couldn't find it anywhere. I called the hospital, and they said they don't do that any more. "We take care of you when you get here, honey!" Um, I literally had half an hour between getting to the hospital and younger daughter being in my arms. Pretty sure I won't be wanting to do any paperwork when I get there, guys!
@BeachMommy2B dangggg. I was hoping to avoid any extra times of taking my pants off in front of ppl....
Speaking of....how in the world are yall taking care of things down there??? I tried and it was a fail.... With dd i was able to closer to my due date but this time its a struggle and im so embarrassed
Glad to know I'm not alone...I mean it's been difficult for awhile but it's gotten worse more recently. I definitely squat or so the bend with one leg up lol that's what I was told the first time I had physical therapy to do when picking something up. Just annoying...we have a shower only in our master now and let me tell you, washing your legs/feet is rough in there!
"A day without laughter is a day wasted." ~Charlie Chaplin
@Jkp7749 it isn't easy. I usually use a hand mirror and/or just shave blindly. I remember the night I started contractions with DS2 I took a hot shower and spent a lot of time shaving. So dumb. I don't know why I cared.
I don't bend over anymore. I either pick things up with my toes like a monkey, enlist my kid, or it can stay there until my husband gets home.
Mommy is tired and gives 0 fucks.
THIS. I am a total clutter control freak and hate when things are out of place, but I've just resigned to small things living on the floor until I can recruit someone in my cleaning efforts. Or until enough things have fallen in one spot that I can justify lowering myself to the ground to pick them all up. Luckily, DS is a bit of a neat freak, too, and will frequently find things in places they don't belong and do the cleaning for me. It's usually complete with a scolding "mommy, trash goes in the garbage can, NOT on the floor"...
@Jkp7749@BabyMC517 this might be more for a TMI or a FFFC but I'm to the point where I lay a towel down on the bed, lay there with legs spread, give fiance the clippers, and pray he doesn't cut me! Then the next morning I can kind of clean it up a bit in the shower with a razor.
The first time was awkward and we laughed, A LOT. Now it just feels so much better to have stuff cleaned up that its basically a weekly thing. Especially with all the check they do in the last month at the OB anyway.
@BeachMommy2B oh gah. I cant imagine dh doing that hahaha. I feel like he would do it but at this point im already too embarrassed for anyone else to see!
MOTN feedings I took care of them all I breastfed so there was nothing DH to do plus he worked super early so he needed rest. Pre registration- not pre registering! Dr says it isn't required anymore. Plus the progress is very fast so no need. @Yiggle09 I got my swab today, 35 weeks!! @jayandaplus getting my tdap next week
Random and total AW- I take back everything negative I ever said about target's cat and Jack brand! I found this shirt for younger daughter, and it could not be more perfect . (Ok, so no she's not up to signing her letters yet, but as of this week she can occasionally sign "more" and "my turn" with only verbal prompting!)
@squirtgun Love that shirt! I could have sworn there was another one but I can't find it on the website. We have the same shirt in 4t, but haven't tried it on DD yet. Sign language is my second language so I got pretty excited to find this
@bacorrea DS2 has never been a particularly rashy baby so it worked for us. We'd definitely change if it was anywhere near full. This wasn't immediately... maybe at a month or so since we didn't need to monitor wet diapers for bf purposes at that point? I'm sure I'll have the baby that screams the instant there's any wetness this time around!
My midwife made sure I pre-registered at 24 weeks. I don't remember her pushing it that early with previously pregnancies, but she said it was a good idea with STM+ so that we're in the system if we need to get contractions monitored or something.
I'm pretty sure the GBS swab is done at 36 weeks for me.
Feb 2012: DS1 born 40w2d, 7 lb 11 oz, 20" May 2014: DS2 born 40w3d, 10 lb, 23"
DH just got home from a 3 week business trip over the weekend and worked really late last night, so we're all having a slow morning today watching DH play video games. DD went poop and called for daddy to help! Hooray for not wiping an extra butt today!
Bending over.....nope! The best you get from me is cleaning around the ottoman using my toes or bribing kids (yogurt covered raisins for the win) to help me. Thankfully DH picks up at night and does the dishes so as long I can convince the kids to contain their mess to the play room it's not that bad.
pre-registering, I don't know if it's true but I heard it only counts if you deliver the day that is planned or something like that. Nobody take my word on that one.
Lady-scaping, I just did this this morning (TMI?), basically a mirror on a stool (or kids IKEA chair) and I sat on the side of the tub. Other parts I blind shaved standing up.
I totally forgot to AW that I scheduled my C-section, I have an end date thank god! The OB is predicting he will easily be a 10lb baby and at 32 weeks I am measuring 37 weeks. With him being so large we decided to not attempt a VBAC afterall. I'm a little bummed since I've never been able to "labor" (lie to me and tell me that it is terrible) but TBH I have no desire whatsoever to push a 10lb+ baby out. I kinda wish I would have put off scheduling it for another 2 weeks so we could have gotten another US since he was breech, but oh well.
I've been outsourcing picking stuff up off the ground- bending over is not happening.
I came to AW a little bit- over the weekend we noticed 2.5 years old DS eyes crossing a little bit when he was watching TV. We've noticed it a few more times since and are trying to get an appt with a pediatric ophthalmologist as soon as possible. I'm bummed that he might not be seeing clearly and could need glasses or eye patching. I know it could be worse but you never want your kids to struggle and it happened so suddenly that it is kind of scaring me.
@chickyclg when's you date? @Hansolosparka I never knew that was an indication of needing glasses. thank you for the information I'll keep an eye out for that with my son
@chickyclg when's you date? @Hansolosparka I never knew that was an indication of needing glasses. thank you for the information I'll keep an eye out for that with my son
From my googling it's normal that it happens around this age and it's due to one eye being much stronger than the other so the weaker eye kind of goes on break and doesn't focus/drifts in. He also has a cold and was pretty tired and that can be when it shows itself. I'll share anything else I learn
@Hansolosparka I wouldn't worry too much about the suddenness. Hopefully he just needs glasses, that was the case for me as a kid. I was around the same age and my parents noticed that I had a lazy eye (one kept crossing). I got some big ol' goggle glasses (yay 80s) and was good as new. My parents love to talk about how once I got glasses, I seemed to rediscover everything. I walked up to bushes and pointed at individual leaves (cause it was probably a blob before), and the first time I saw my glasses-wearing grandma, I pointed at her face, then at my face. They claim I was adorable, so glasses aren't all that bad
@Yiggle09@starphish18 May 17th, still a long time away. They are monitoring him for something to do with large fetal size since he is measuring in the 91% for gestation so we may have to move it up a week when we get closer.
ETA: I'm due May 20 so currently we are shooting for that 39th week, the OB mentioned the option to schedule passed the due date but was highly recommending we schedule it before.
@BabyMC517 - I actually feel the opposite of what a few ladies have mentioned... I can bend over alright, but if I squat or crouch I may get stuck down there. I have literally had to 'climb' my way back up a door frame or nearby post because I don't have the lower body strength to lift myself back up. (This is especially fun if I am holding DS.)
@jayandaplus - You've gotten a lot of good responses, and I will second (third?) the library suggestion! We're lucky to live close to an AMAZING one with such good people that do the programs for littles. Most of ours are mid to late morning, and I would sort of zero in on a mom that looked approachable and ask if they had plans for lunch. I mean... we all gotta eat! I am usually VERY reserved and a self-proclaimed hermit, but I've really tried to put myself out there, because I want my kids to have friends! I would keep checking MeetUp too, because new groups crop up from time to time.
@chickyclg - When's your C? I've started adding mine to the weekly ticker, even though it's not a specific question on there.
Yes, this is very unpleasant and I try to avoid bending over at all costs. When I pick up DS's toys, I just plop down in the middle of the floor and then basically to get on all fours to stand back up. Last night, I hid the little toys that make a big mess like his Legos and pretend crawfish boiling set. I'll take it out the closet if he asks for it, but sometimes I think he just likes dumping them out and making a mess and doesn't really play.
