  • @Yiggle09 Oof, hopefully the contractions stop and you're able to head home soon.
  • Are bringing gifts for your L&D nurses/doctors a common thing to do? I'd never heard of that before people here mentioned it, now I'm wondering if I should be planning on having someone bring a tray of cookies or something when they come to visit.
  • @Yiggle09 OMG thinking of you! I hope everything chills out!

I'm 34 weeks today--is it possible the baby is having some kind of energy-draining growth spurt or something? All of a sudden for the past couple of days I can't stay awake: I'm sleeping 8-9 hours a night (with bathroom breaks of course) AND have needed frequent naps. And not delicate "let me just rest my eyes for 15 mins and think precious baby thoughts" naps more like full-on hour-long death-slumber with weird dreams and total confusion when I wake up. It's been just GREAT for work productivity let me tell you
  • Ugh toddlers. How can such tiny beings be so much attitude and persistence? Some days are great, others make me wonder why we are doing this again.

Maybe TMI (but really what isn't tmi about being pregnant). I would love some pregnancy induced constipation. I've been up since 3 am with ridiculous diarrhea, which has been happening pretty regularly while pregnant. Isn't pregnancy supposed to slow you down?? Come on!

  • @Yiggle09 Oh no! Sorry you're in l&d. Hope things go well and you go home soon! Keep us posted!

@MrsFreeman2010 Are you sure you don't have a stomach bug? Stay hydrated!

Oh my gosh! I wish I could take hour long naps during the day!! Not sure my boss would approve of that ;) I'm so exhausted, pretty much all of the time. I sleep 8-9 hrs a night, with bathroom breaks as well, but still never seems like enough. I'm 32 weeks pregnant...maybe its just a 3rd tri thing? I don't know...I feel like I've been tired this entire pregnancy. No 2nd try energy for me!

  • @jayandaplus I don't think I do. I've had soft stools-diarrhea the entire pregnancy so far. Today and yesterday is definitely more than the norm so I might have something going on but I feel totally fine (besides tired from being awake most of the night)

  • @hp_momma yes! When it's time to put up toys DD sings "clean up pick up put away, clean up everyday!"
  • @Yiggle09 I hope everything sorts itself out soon!! Take good care of yourself. Creepy Internet hugs!!

@bacorrea I lived in my Sanuks last summer. I bought 3 pairs I loved them so much. It's not quite dry enough here for them yet but I'm counting the days. They are the most comfortable shoes I own!

I'm over the sleepless nights too. No matter how tired I am I can't get a full nights sleep. I appreciate that I really have no business complaining compared to the rest of you though - I'm not working and I have no kids to take care of. You all are rockstars!!

  • @Jens_Hoes that stinks about the job! Very happy you don't have to deal with the possibility of insurance not rolling over nicely for you (ps. it sucks).
@Yiggle09 Fingers crossed it goes well.
I am definitely feeling overwhelmed by all the cranky tots around here today just through you guys! I wish you all the greatest strength for the rest of the day! I feel like I'm about to ask a really dumb question, but figured I would ask you ladies first before attempting to remember for my appointment tomorrow. Does anyone else have just one spot that hurts when baby hits or kicks it? Other places may be uncomfortable, but there's just one spot that when baby gets it, I can't help but ow.
  • @absbubbs yes! About an inch and a half under my right ribs.

  • @absbubbs Also yes. Mine is right next to my bellybutton.

Yes! A couple inches to the right of my belly button. Its been that way for over a month now. There's even a little blue dot (burst vessel?) there. It's like baby like to punch right there and just hold it to see how much they can stretch.

  • +1 to painful jabs and movement. This breech kid needs to move because the kicks to the crotch are insane. I would much rather a giant head and angry fists down there. She must have my giant feet because holy crap.

  • Well, I'm relieved that it's not just mine being a dick! At least the most painful spot can also be the favorite spot... :D
  • @bacorrea I Love my Sanuks too. I wore them on Saturday and walked all over town and my feet were still feeling pretty good afterwards!!

@absbubbs YES!! Mine is right under the right ribs, I swear this kid is trying to remodel and first order of business is knocking out a couple of ribs.
  • @Yiggle09 Good news! Thinking about you.
  • Whooping cough vaccine. Are your docs pushing it for people around baby?? My doc wants me and DH to get it. Which of course we will. But what about people who come to visit?

Me too! It's weird! Mine is a few inches up and to the right of my belly button. Almost feel like he could kick right through. It's extra sensitive. It doesn't hurt inside, it's like my skin hurts. Very odd.

  • @mamatowildones Yes, all visitors should get a TDaP vaccine before visiting baby!
  • Whooping cough vaccine. Are your docs pushing it for people around baby?? My doc wants me and DH to get it. Which of course we will. But what about people who come to visit?
My doctors didn't really specifically mention who should get it, but they did give me a handout that recommended anyone who will be caring for the infant in the first year should have it. I requested for our immediate family (baby's grandparents, aunts, uncles) and close friends who would have more frequent contact with the baby to get the booster (this was about 10 people for us). Everyone was really cool about it.
  • @mamatowildones yeah my doctor's office is urging the TDAP for any adult who will be interacting with the baby early on. (I'm in California where there's been kind of a spate of complications from the anti-vax trend so I wonder if it's especially recommended in certain areas?) I got mine and I'm going to have my husband, mom, and sister get it since they will be around helping right after the birth.

For what it's worth, my parents are physicians and at a recent conference they attended the latest evidence presented suggests that newborns may be protected enough from the mother's immune system if she's inoculated--it sounds like that research is pretty new and won't have necessarily made it to every dr's office yet, so it's always best to go with your dr's recommendation. But just in case a random relative stops by and you don't know their whooping cough vaccination status, that may give you some peace of mind. (I plan to be strict regardless because yay vaccines.)
  • Thank you ladies. Just another thing to worry about! My mom will do it because she'll be helping out after. But for those random visitors at the hospital and home I'm  trying to figure out how I'm going to handle that. I can't for the life of me remember if this was brought up with DS who is turning 2.

  • I haven't read through everyone's posts yet, but just wondering... does anyone else have a stabbing pain in their breast? It hurts so much that it makes me yell out loud. I went to the OB about it today and I'm getting a breast ultrasound tomorrow. I might use the wrong terminology here, but she said that I have dense breasts, and it could be that the membranes are swelling because of hormones and pushing against nerves. She also felt a little nodule that she said could be a fibroid or something. She wasn't very concerned, and I'll know more tomorrow. Just wondering if others are experiencing this.

  • @kns1988 That's happened to me 2-3 times, but never enough I've mentioned it. Good thing you did and I'm glad you'll get some answers tomorrow! Keep us posted!
  • mamatowildones, my doctor said that only DH and I and anyone regularly caring for the baby needs to have the TDAP. I asked my mom to get it; my MIL won't because she's afraid of needles (that turned into a bit of a fight with DH, but I decided to move on after talking to my doctor). No one will be regularly watching the baby other than DH and me. I know people have some really strong opinions about this topic, but that's just where I'm at.

  • @kns1988 yes, I like to refer to it as lightening boob. I'm pretty well endowed and I have very fibrosis breasts, I also had an over supply with DD so it's a normal to me! Glad you're getting checked out though!

I have a student teacher with me the first three days this week so I'm not able to check in as often! I feel like I missed a lot, but I skimmed through fast.

@Yiggle09, I hope hope the contractions stay away now!

  • @kns1988 I've had a bunch of stabbing pains in both boobs since second tri. I mentioned it to my oncologist and she said it was normal pregnancy breast pain.
  • @starphish18 I forgot to answer your question about treats for the nurses! I never heard about it before here, so I'm not sure how common it is. I don't have any plans to bring treats for the staff. I have always been trained not to accept gifts of any kind from patients or families, even though obviously you can't always say no. So, I think it is mostly a personal preference thing that is happening, and I plan on finding other ways to recognize staff that I think are exceptional and stand out to me.
