Hmmmm, I think I'm going to get my period soon. Slight cramping even when I am not nursing DD at week 8 PP!

Also, I get kind of nauseous lately (no, we haven't even DTD so that can't be it).

I was nauseous every day until like yesterday, at almost a month PP, and I still have to eat every time I breastfeed/pump or I feel pukey. I blame hormones.
I should have known...it almost always was right around when I'd breastfeed DD or right afterwards! Thx for the insight.

  • @AliKay20 I'm only 5 weeks pp and already got my period! So pissed, I only had 2 days of not bleeding since giving birth. My body is making me pay for all those missed periods during pregnancy
  • For those mamas who have started their periods already, how did you know it was actually your period? I stopped bleeding for about 5 days then it picked back up again. I was hoping it was just more pp bleeding but now I'm starting to wonder. I have always had pretty heavy periods and this definitely isn't heavy but it is more than spotting. Any ideas?

The only reason I think it's my period is because it went from being really light and mostly brownish discharge, to being gone, to being bright red and heavy again.
  • Anyone else having trouble eating? Some days I'm fine, but most days I have absolutely no appetite and the thought of food makes me nauseous.

I'm having to eat a lot of protein mixed in... Just a snack won't do. Maybe that will help? And I thought the nausea would be done when the baby arrived...

I didn't go back and read this whole thread, but is there a secret to getting the feet/ankle swelling to go down other than drinking lots of water? I didn't have any swelling during pregnancy but 6 days PP and it's out of control.
This sounds wierd, but it totally worked for me. I wrapped my lower legs and feet in cabbage leaves and plastic wrap.  I left it on for one hour and then took it off. At first I didn't notice a difference, but the next morning I was able to put on sneakers for the first time!  I hope your swelling goes away soon. I know it's uncomfortable but it gets better.

That is how I felt all the time. Just a horrible pit in my stomach off and on. It ended up being anxiety for  (from lack of sleep and dealing with Aria crying so much was stressing me out). When I am stressed, I have no appetite. Not sure if this is the same for you?

  • @midwestbaby Yeah I think mine is from anxiety as well, luckily it seems to be getting better and I've been less stressed.

I had been done bleeding for a couple weeks when i got what I thought was my period at 6 weeks. I'm tracking and due now to get it again anyway so we will see if it really was or just a fluke! I was pissed too I wasn't one of those 6 month people!

  • I just came back from seeing my PCP as a follow up to my 6 week PP check up last week re: Achy joint pains in my hands

He did some strength test with my hands and wrists - i.e., is it painful if I push my hands against his? He pressed down on my elbows when I had my arms out.

Then he told me that my last bloodwork was at the hospital according to the EMR system and the blood result shows I'm anemic (I had no idea until today).

He wanted to double check that today and also do bloodwork to check my thyroid levels and rheumatoid arthritis.

Whatever it is, I just hope the bloodwork shows what may be the culprit for my achy hands. Seriously can't even make a fist in the morning when I first wake up. Maybe my lab results can also shed some light to my swelling and things. Idk, PP is so weird.
  • @AliKay20 my hands have been so achy, as well as my inner pelvis, knees and ankles. I read you can have postpartum arthralgia, but man I was hoping at 3 weeks PP that it would be getting better. If I sit for a while and go to get up I feel like I am 80 years old! Keep us posted with what you find out!
  • Okay when the heck will my lady bits start feeling normal again?? I'm jealous of all of you who seem to be waking long distances or even running. I'm 2 weeks PP, still bleeding a good amount, and feel like I have to sit/stand carefully so I don't irritate stitches and cause more bleeding/pain. Is this normal?? (Disclaimer I also have a UTI which seems like it's taking forever to go away!)
  • @caitlinj187 How badly did you tear? I was the same way after my first. I was in pain for a good 3 weeks. This time at 10 days PP I feel like I'm at about 80%. It really depends on your body, your birth, and I am betting it has something to do with being a FTM vs. 2nd or 3rd.

  • @caitlinj187 I tore pretty bad with DD and at 3 weeks I still was sore. I was dreading the post partum stuff more than the actual birth this time. I also bled up until about 5 weeks. This time I'm at 2 weeks and feel about 90% and bleeding has not been bad at all.
  • @caitlinj187 i had third degree tearing and just stopped bleeding around 3 weeks pp.  Having been doing daily sitz baths as well, but haven't done a lot of exercise yet.  Still don't feel up to it.
  • @tisunge602 I have a 2nd degree tear in one spot, and then another stitch on the side. I had pretty much stopped bleeding, but 2 days ago it started up again... Almost seems like my period but I don't think that's possible yet. I think most of the uncomfort is from the UTI though, so I might call the doc and see if I can get different antibiotics.
  • I have a 4th degree tear and still feel sore as heck. But it's more manageable now at 3 almost 4 weeks PP. I am still taking ibuprofen for it every 4-6 hours. My bleeding is almost non existent now. Just light spotting. I find that I am more sore if I do too much in one day or getting in and out of the car still sucks.

  • Anyone else having trouble eating? Some days I'm fine, but most days I have absolutely no appetite and the thought of food makes me nauseous.
Yes, I essentially was having one meal per day but it was due to ppd. I was hungry but nothing sounded good at all.
  • Anyone else having trouble eating? Some days I'm fine, but most days I have absolutely no appetite and the thought of food makes me nauseous.
I haven't had an appetite since I was 4 days pp. Nothing taste good anymore and I feel like I've ate the same thing over and over the whole pregnancy. Plus everyone keeps asking me if I'm stressed out or could it be depression and I'm like y'all stressing me out constantly asking me! Honestly I'm not sure what it is, but starting tomorrow I'm gonna start trying to make myself eat a little something
  • I'll be 4 weeks PP on Thursday and I'm still having to wear a pad because I'll bleed just a little bit. Im starting to get gauded from wearing pads and it's getting insanely uncomfortable. On average how long did y'all have to wear pads for?
  • @Lynnlove28 I used pads until 4 wks. After that, pantyliners ftw for another 2 wks.

In other news, my lab results came back. Thyroid levels were all normal. Negative for rheumatoid arthritis. Still can't figure this out and I go back to work in 3.5 weeks. I need answers asap. Ugh!! Following up w doc now on next steps.

I know pregnancy does weird things to my body but chucking this achy/stiff hands problem to pregnancy will make me lose it completely at this point. Frustrated to the max!
  • @AliKay20 Ugh that's frustrating, hope you find answers soon!
  • @Lynnlove28 I'm still only 2.5 weeks in, but I foresee having to wear pads for a while still. My bleeding was really little for a few days (5-8), but for the last week or so I would say is moderate, and I have to change pads every 4 hours or so....

im hoping things ease up in the next week or so, otherwise I'll probably call my OB
  • @Lynnlove28 I switched to panty liners at 3 weeks or so, but still need one now (4w4d). I barely bleed at all, but it's enough that I have to wear one everyday... It's very annoying, every time I think it's finally done, I have a little spotting again.

  • I wore pads for about 3 weeks and then panty liners for a few more days.

For those that had an epidural... do you still have pain/soreness at the needle site?? I don't have it all the time but when I bend backwards it is really sore!! This became very evident when trying to work out today. I'm 7 weeks pp! I had my pp doctor appt but forgot to ask about this so just curious if anyone else experienced it and for how long!
  • @court5608 when I had DD I remember sometimes feeling that way for months afterward. Not really sore just a weird feeling. That's the best way I can explain it.
  • @Lynnlove28 that's an accurate description lol I knew it was a side effect just didn't realize it could be a few months. Interesting...

Same for me. It hasn't bothered me this time though.

@Lynnlove28 I was just like she said but was officially done bleeding at about 4w pp. It just starts to fizzle out. That first day though with no pad is like a whole new woman!
  • My bleeding was pretty much none existent for almost two weeks, I just wore a liner and only had super light spotting a random day or two, now I'm having to wear a pad again. I wonder if this might be my period, I'm almost 5 weeks PP, I've had slight cramping the past couple of days, and I got two lovely pimples a few days ago that are just now starting to go away...hmm. Anyone else get their period this early PP??
  • Sorry I have not been on in awhile. I am 4 weeks 5 days out and starting to bleed agian with some cramping. I am not sure if this is PP bleeding or my period ether. I am EBF and didn't have a period with my first unit I stopped BF at 8 months. I was hoping that would happen agian. I did have a large 2nd degree tear this time and a longer recovery so maybe that has something to do with it.

Pretty sure I got mine at exactly 5 weeks pp
  •  Went to my OB from a six week appointment today. She thinks I have PPD.

She gave me a prescription of Lexapro and some names of counselors to call. She also cried with me in the office during the visit.

I hate that I'm having such a tough time when DS is such a great/easy baby.

I am sorry to hear it, but it is good that it got recognized and you were given resources. Big creepy Internet hugs, you are doing good Mama, taking care of you us taking care of baby.
  • @TCUFrog08 I'm sorry you're having such a tough time! At least you/your doctor recognized it! Don't be too hard on yourself, there is no way to control PP hormones and you never know how your body will respond. My mom had 4 kids and only got PPD after she had my brother. Hopefully you'll start to feel better soon!
  • @TCUFrog08 Big creepy internet hug. So sorry, but so glad you're addressing it. You're not alone and you're a great mom for taking care of yourself!
What an awesome OB to be so caring!
  • @TCUFrog08 big hugs to you! I'm so glad your doctor was thorough and so compassionate.
