@midwestbaby that is amazing. Looking for another basement? Mine is a disaster!
Ha! Maybe! The garage is next on my list here. It is kinda nice to know where everything is now. We have been in this house a little over a year and I was finally unpacking some things. Yikes!

  • @midwestbaby Wow! That's awesome!
  • Right there with you all on the no sleeping thing. Except this morning I was actually sleeping pretty decent when DH got out of bed. Hes on an early shift all week and felt the need to wake me up to tell me that it was storming. Are you kidding me? I gave him the most disgusted look and rolled away from him. Then he left all the lights on and didnt lock the door behind him. So I had to get up and fix all of that. He does not understand how valuable a few solid hours of sleep is right now.
  • @alyssajrob22 I think our DH must be similar.  Mine has to get up at 3:30 for work, and makes the most noise a human being can.  By the time I fall back asleep, it is time to get ready for work myself.

  • Stephanie7693  I looked online and it says to check with your doctor first, but there was also a "crunchy mom site" that had a mix of her own with a lot of organic ingredients to make calamine lotion.

@midwestbaby seriously are we sisters? I love everything about your basement being organized and I am sure your baby will too  ! I made a to do list of things to clean this weekend as well as a *start here* checklist that I explained to DH  needs to be followed in order. I can already tell he is super excited for this weekend.
  • @Bookhousegirl Moving day! Hope it all goes off without a hitch. Good luck!
  • Spent yesterday morning in L&D because I was having tons of Braxton Hicks.. They hooked me up to the monitor and I was contracting every 3-5 minutes! They gave me IV fluids which did nothing. The contractions weren't painful at all, but I started to get nervous with the frequency and the fact that they wouldn't stop! They checked and I was not dilated at all, cervix was high, and fetal  fibronectin was negative. They then gave me nifedipine which just spaced the contractions to 5 minutes apart. Since the contractions aren't progressing me they sent me home. I guess i just have an irritable uterus! I'm 33w5d so I'm glad baby didn't come yesterday - he needs a couple more  weeks at least!
  • Also @Bookhousegirl good luck with your move today!
  • Bookhousegirl good luck today! We moved about a month ago and I was in heaven putting things away and then throwing a lot out, it was basically the best nesting weekend ever!
  • @midwestbaby sadly I know this, that's why it's irrational on my part but in my sleep deprived brain he should just know lol. I'm picking some Benadryl up today and that stuff normally knocks me right out so I'm hoping we don't have this issue tomorrow.
  • @kristynmac I was just saying to DH that I'm actually looking forward to the unpacking process for this exact reason! I've already gotten rid of 2 carloads of junk while I was packing, and I know I'll have just as much on the other end.

@Lynnlove28 DH doesn't understand what I want, unless I smack him in the face with it. I always want him to just anticipate my needs, but it never happens, so I've decided to just be super blunt with him. He definitely gets annoyed sometimes, and it can feel like nagging, but it's better than the stewing that I used to do!

  • Benadryl has been a God send for my insomnia. I don't take it everyday for if it's been 3 days of not sleeping I take one and sleep like a baby!

Right now I'm battling a horrible upper respiratory infection that has traveled to my chest. Was up all night coughing, post-nasal drip, sore throat - you name it. I ended up "sleeping" on the couch so my husband could sleep. Sucks being sick and 35 weeks pregnant. I keep telling myself at least I'm sick now and not when I'm in labor!
  • @midwestbaby I'm so jealous of your basement right now. Being in north Texas, basements are not a thing we have. I would kill for a place to put all of our storage boxes and suitcases. Right now they are currently living in the closet that attaches to the nursery. Great work getting it so organized!

@midwestbaby I am also jealous of your basement. Ours is a dirt 5' crawl space with a stone foundation. Creeeeeeepy. It seriously looks like a horror movie down there, so I ignore it.  The house was built in 1901 though, so I guess that's what you get!

  • Ok I just saw @AliKay20 is having her baby! I am so stinking excited! We are all so close! I can't wait to see her new little peanut!

It occurred to me yesterday that while I've been pretty diligent about getting the nursery ready, buying things for the baby, etc, I've completely neglected some of the not-so-fun things we need to do -- getting life insurance, making a will, and choosing a pediatrician. Oops, totally forgot to do my paperwork for this baby! I also have not yet completed my legal name change since getting married almost a year ago. I need to do that because I want my married name on the birth certificate. I need a drill sargent to come live with me for a few weeks and force me to do things. It's just that putting away all the cute clothes is so much more fun.
Been married 3 years just went last month to SS office and had it changed. Still haven't gotten to the DMV. Which means if I don't make it over before the baby is born I'll have my maiden name on the BC again. I feel ya!
  • @Snaps816.. I have been married 4.5 years and still haven't changed me name with ss! The dmv let me change it when I got married using just my marriage license.  But I did find out the hospital wouldn't have changed my name in thier system once I was admitted for l&d.but my ER visit a couple months ago was when I was told that, and they should have it changed now. So call the hospital and see what their policy is on updating info once you are a patient in their care. I know I'll be super bummed if I see my maiden name on those bracelets again
  • I feel behind in the conversation due to my sleep schedule! But I'm right there with all of you on the insomnia. I was up all night tossing and turning because I was in so much pain from LO. Everything hurts now! Plus my cats were on top of me all night and my dog wouldn't leave the side of my bed. It's really sweet, but it made it difficult to change sides as much as I needed to.

I also need to change my name. DH and I are the last members of or family with our last names so we actually both want to hyphenate our last names so we can keep them both. LO will have the hyphenated name so we really need to change ours so we can all have the same last name!

@midwestbaby I'm jealous of your basement too! I live in a hurricane and flooding zone so we can't have basements here. Also, I love how organized it is. I need to do some serious organizing in our house to get rid of the clutter but can't seem to find the energy! Maybe I should do it when I can't sleep too.
  • @midwestbaby I'm jumping on the "jealous of
your basement" train! Born and raised in Texas so I feel like basements are these mystical unicorns. I don't think I've ever been in one!

  • Another mama here who's never had a basement! You've done a great job; we need to work on our garage this weekend. It was ground zero for renovation projects when we moved in (in May) and we have still not re-organized so we can actually park in it!

We have our birth class and hospital tour tonight. I'm excited, but a little nervous. Hope DH can handle the info. He told me last night he's going to try not to faint when I go into labor and said, "There's a little blood, but not too much, right?" I just laughed and told him to look at my face, not down below.

  • @midwestbaby -  Thanks for the motivation! It took 3.5 hours but my basement is organized.
  • @snaps816 ditto. I replied shortly after you.

  • Group B strep test happened. Not a fan.

@midwestbaby Your basement "after" picture belongs on one of those "16 Pictures that Will Make You Feel Insanely Satisfied" Buzzfeed posts. I feel calmer just looking at it, and I'm motivated to go home and tackle some of the partially unpacked disaster zone that is our house.
  • @Snaps816 That wasn't me. I didn't reply, I just came over here to passive-aggressively snark.

  • Question for STMs: Help me understand the sizing of baby gowns.  Are they sized in the NB, 0-3m, etc. sizes?  Do they last for longer?  I bought a couple carters' gowns and frankly, couldn't for the life of me figure out what size I bought! FTM, and my mother tells me gowns are helpful for the first couple weeks.  7.5 lb baby over here at the 35 week sonogram, so I think NB sizes are going to be useless.

    Thank ya! :)

@Mfuller76 what was the test like?
  • @kwilliams3402 I love the little gowns for the first few months-- they are perfect for night time diaper changes.  My DD was born at 8lbs, 13 oz and went straight into 0-3 mos (or 3 mos in Carters' sizing).  We didn't use any NB clothes for her.

@kwilliams3402 I think the gowns i have say 0-6 months

My DD was 8lbs 8ozs and she wore newborn for a week or so maybe. The gowns were definitely my favorite and they're normally sized 0-6 months or 0-9 months. DD could wear them for a few months but once she got a little bigger I didn't like them as much because she would wiggle around so much in them. They were great for the first few weeks though.

@Stephanie7693 I wasn't able to change my name with any records until changing my SS.. so that was the first one I did. The DMV in CT wouldn't recognize my SS card lol and required I go get my marriage license( an original) I was livid that day.
It could be that my husband was in the military at the time so in order for my military ID to say my last name I had to change SS first
  • kwilliams3402  The ones that I got are 0-6. I have a couple newborn sleepers, but I figured that the gowns could be a little big.

@fremdschamen and @katm89 - Thanks ladies--I think the ones I bought say 0-6m, and I was a little confused about whether that was right.

We have a very small stash of NB clothes that we got as gifts in case baby boy comes.... well, like in the next week... and I plan to wash like one onesie at NB size this weekend and then have someone wash the rest for me if needed, but otherwise just plan that he'll come out ready for the 0-3m size clothes!
