So did that random bait thread get shut down by admin and a deleted ? Also I have a feeling this name thread is the same thing....I just keep telling myself do not engage
Maybe I'm crazy but I'm hoping I can skip the epidural this time in order to save $$$. Coming to the hospital too early last time was my biggest mistake so I'm planning to labor at home as much as possible ....Just thinking about all the medical bills we're about to have while I'm on UNPAID leave is starting to freak me out.
Can anyone direct me to factual information from a credible source on circumcision? I tried searching on here, and while I found plenty of opinions, I couldn't find info from any kind of organization. The American Academy of Pediatrics doesn't really say one way or another which is best.
DH knows I don't totally agree with circumcision, I think it's unnecessary, and now that I'm getting closer, the idea of caring for a newborn with a wound on his genitals is giving me anxiety. Last night, DH actually brought up the circumcision issue, after reading some things online himself, and now he's not sure if he's on board with it - we are just looking for info to make an informed decision. Also, going to ask my midwife at my appointment next week. It does make me feel better that DH is coming around to some of the things that I've brought up in the past, and maybe this isn't something that is necessary to do to our baby.
@MDmomma1217 I'm pretty sure this subject has been discussed in detail on here before, but I'm not sure about a credible source. I will say that we chose not to circumcise DS1 and will again not do it with DS2. Even if there are some "benefits" to doing it (like a slightly less change of UTI's in the future), I still don't view it as something that's medically necessary. Seems more cosmetic if anything. There's also no additional cleaning involved -- By the time additional cleaning is necessary DS1 and DS2 should be old enough to bathe themselves.
@rnyland1 I know it's been talked about a lot (I was reading through some threads last night), but I can't base my decision off of reading other's opinions. I know how I feel, but I would like to also get some information from some kind of medical organization - that's why I ended up reading through the AAP's website last night but it essentially doesn't make an argument one way or another for either circumcising or not. We wouldn't be making a decision based on any kind of religious belief, I think DH at first thought it should be done because it just seems like the thing to do on both sides of our family.
@dolewhipper Thank you for the links! I will be sharing with DH!
@MDmomma1217 If it's not done for religious reasons, I think it is purely a cosmetic and personal choice now. I thankfully don't have to make that decision which would just add to the stress we are already dealing with. Working in surgery, we deal with a lot of baby boomers right now, a lot of which are uncircumcised males. We have circumcised 2 of them due to the fact that they get constant infections, but that is due to poor hygiene and not taking care of themselves. Other than that, I haven't heard of anything saying you should go one way or the other.
@MDmomma1217 we had an awesomely positive discussion around it awhile back. It seems like people are split on it and there's definitely a cultural/social/location piece that drive people. In making a decision we spoke to our pediatrician about it. He didn't pull us one way or the other but was able to provide better information than what was posted here or I found myself. No throwin' shade, I was just glad to have an actual face to face convo with a pediatrician and would recommend that if possible.
@brandiK and @theshannondee Thank you - I am going to ask my midwife at my next appointment. It's been in the back of my mind to ask my pediatrician, but thankfully DD hasn't gotten sick in quite a while so we haven't been in the office. Not a bad idea to give them a call though.
The second link @dolewhipper included in her post gives some really good info if anyone else is interested.
So was told to come in bc I've been having contractions 3.5-5 min apart all morning with pain but no other labor symptoms.
Of course there's no action. Cervix is closed and hugh but contractions continue to be painful and close together. Told to call if pain gets worse or other labor symptoms show up. I'm so done with this already.

I'm in the same boat today. I had contractions all weekend so they had me come in this morning. Cervix is closed, but length is shortened. So things are moving down there but not in a rapid way. My stomach gets rock hard whenever I stand up too so that's uncomfortable as hell. I keep telling my twins that it's not time yet, hopefully your LO stays put too!
@shanparadise At this rate My doctors and I wouldn't be alarmed if she came (36.5 weeks but over 6.5lbs). I'm mostly like "shit or get off the pot" at this point. I can't handle 3.5 more weeks of painful, distracting contractions. So either come now or quit it until you're ready to come later!
is it too late to join the fun? I have been lurking since march and have wanted to comment on some threads, but didn't want to until I formally introduced myself! ( so I figured its time I quit being lazy about it... ) my name is nikki, I am 34 weeks with a little girl and am excited to get to know you ladies!

I stated away from very biased groups, like Intact America and what not.
As @megstervtstated, I can give official resources, but I will not states one way or another what we have decided for my son. The AAP states that the benefits out weights the risks, but it is still up to the family to decide what is best for them.
Can't help with resources @MDmomma1217 but we were talking about circumcision a little bit in Bradley class yesterday and one of the couples said that their insurance doesn't cover it anymore because it's not considered a cosmetic procedure. Anther couple said they'd found the same thing with theirs. I thought that was interesting, and I hadn't heard that before.
@rakel88 that's true that some insurance carriers do not cover it. Mine does not. If anyone is planning to circumsize, I would suggest contacting your insurance.
I called and checked with my insurance as I had been hearing that as well...Ours covers it at 80% like anything else in my plan and it is considered preventative care. I have heard of some practices where it can cost well over $1000 so I definitely recommend checking with your doctor and insurance on the financial side.
Hey @BecauseBabyIamAPug here's a question you may not know but I'll ask anyway...our specific pediatrician does not perform them but another doctor in the practice does. Any idea why other than just personal beliefs? I felt rude asking him "why not" but I wasn't sure if there are reasons I could be unaware of? My question sounds stupid now, I'm sure it's just his personal preference?
I can actually answer that. Since it is not done every day, many Drs don't feel comfortable do it. So in the practicestore with several Drs, they usually have one that does it for the whole group. So they have more experience with it and therefore are way more comfortable. I know several groups that do this.
* not saying there is not another reason, but this is a common answer.
I would honestly fight your insurance on that. Sine is has been recommended by the AAP for a preventative measure, it should be covered under the ACA. Put up the site from AAP, and there have an official statement that it is recommended and it is prevent and NOT cosmetic, and that 3rd party payees (insurance companies) should cover it.

@BecauseBabyIamAPug because some insurance plans (like mine) are considered "grandfathered in" or something, they don't have to follow all the rules of the ACA. Sucks but it is what it is. That's also why I can't get a breast pump through my insurance.
Did a little searching but couldn't find any discussion or comments that addressed this. I've been hearing a clicking noise when baby moves sometimes. Only when I'm still and quiet and she moves a bunch, and not super frequently (like maybe once a day if that). It sounds like a joint popping, but almost like it would sound if you popped it underwater (kind of echo-y). I've gone to Dr. Google, which says its a thing (but doesn't know why) and my own OB, who said she's heard of it only one time, and a specialist had told her that he wasn't concerned. Just curious to see if this is something anyone else has experienced, just out of curiosity.
@tigerlilly1983 I actually mentioned clicking noises in May symptoms when it started for me about 2 weeks ago. A couple ladies responded saying they hear it too but also have no clue what the heck is going on. There's some days where it's so frequent and others where it's a little slow but it's a daily thing for me now. My pelvic area makes the same exact noise so I know for sure the noise is my joints but have no idea why it's coming from my belly.
I had a clicking noise that literally sounded like a ratchet last week! It was so loud that my intern heard it too. I have no idea what it is, but since there wasn't any pain or anything else weird, I just ignored it.

@victoria98 - nice to know I'm not alone! I'll take a look at that thread now (sorry for the bad searching on my part searching "clicking" turns out a lot of posts re: "clicking" on internet-related things :-) Does it happen when you are moving or completely still? I'm convinced that for me it's related to baby moving somehow because I'm completely still... but still super weird.
@randypluskate and @BeachTigress - I got the same error too and live chatted with them quickly. They said they are having an issue and said to check back first thing tomorrow AM...

On the names one, I'm fascinated that someone could have joined 6 years ago and make this their first ever post.

Btw, many Drs just charge a flat rate (or they used too). I have heard it from $150-300 OOP.
Im intrigued...
