  • @megan324 you will meet everyone before you open presents, but if you are anything like me, you will quickly forget who's who...I believe there was a Bingo game based on guests names posted in the Baby Shower Thread? This may help drive the attention of the opened present over to the gift-giver so that you're able to smile and thank them.
  • @Megan324 I just went to a baby shower for a friend a few weeks ago where I didn't know anyone but her. At first it was a little awkward, but then I just plopped myself down at the craft table they had set up and chatted with the ladies there about pregnancy, babies, and the craft/game we were doing. I had been dreading going for the same reason (not knowing anyone) but i ended up having fun. Also, I second what @AnnaS930 said...being pregnant is a great conversation starter/discussion topic for these types of events!!!

@Sbrown721  I am so terrible with names to begin with, add in the pregnant brain and I'm all "my brother's name? oh man I just had it"

    Edit to add:
The game idea is great! I'll def look into it

  • @Megan324 - Guests like to know who gifts are from too, and might not know each other on opposite sides of the family. At my sister's shower I made mention of this and said "Since we're not all completely familiar with each other, if the gift giver would be willing to give a quick wave when Emily (my sister) reads your name off the card.. that would be super!"  I think my sister knew everyone, since she's very close to her husband's family, but it helped the rest of us to get to say "Oooh, Aunt Carol! Adorable blanket!" lol!!!

Seriously I feel like the biggest pregnancy noob sometimes haha

  • @PSUBecky23 - All of my movements was in the top right of my belly.. starting yesterday it's more focused on the left but still up high.  Appointment this afternoon, curious to see if they have a guess or not

  • @PSUBecky23 So probably not transverse? I try to guess based on what I'm feeling, but who knows what is what. Sometimes it feels like she's in 10 places at once, and I have no clue what position that would be.

  • Found out today my boss (who is really just our interim manager because my old boss left three months ago and his position hasn't been backfilled yet) is leaving the company.  It's a sad day...in the eight + years of my professional career, and after countless managers, directors, team assignments, etc, she is probably the best manager I've ever worked with.  Whoever comes next is going to have some big shoes to fill!

  • I'm just trying to think back to my daughter and where her movements were and sadly, all I remember were the ones where it felt like she was trying to bust out. I'd feel a little foot or elbow trying to jab it's way out. Luckily she was head down and I had an awesome L&D. That's the problem - first L&D was so good that I'm so concerned that this one can't live up to it. (If a C-section becomes necessary, that's fine, I would just prefer to have another vaginal, obviously.)

  • Sorry if this has already been covered in the May thread, but do any of you wear any kind of support for your belly and/or back? I am finally done with all of my traveling and my abdomen and back has been super sore all week (the worst was last night and I just want to wrap my hands around my body and hold it all in). My boss told me yesterday I should be wearing support under my dresses and I did not realize this was a thing, lol. She recommended Spanx but that just sounds awful. She is quite thin and pregnant with her third and I am quite curvy and only tried on Spanx once when not pregnant and decided I would rather wear tights for the rest of my life than endure that torture. Lol. Any other ideas? I looked it up on Amazon and the Top Customer Rated item looks like you can see it under clothes. That is not really ideal...

    Thanks in advance!

  • @PSUBecky23 I have the same worry. I had a great birth experience and recovery last time, and I'm sure I can't get that lucky twice. The on-call OB that delivered my daughter threatened CS last time before I even started really pushing claiming my pelvis was too small. I'm going to bring this concern up to my OB at my 36 or 37 week appt, but it has me terrified that if this LO is much bigger than DD, she won't fit out. I'm trying to not to think about positioning yet because there is still so much time for them to move and flip still.

@blondie080300 I love Spanx but I can see how some may really hate them. I also can't really imagine that they provide the type of support you are looking for sooo they may not be that beneficial anyway! I actually have been wondering the same thing. My pelvis and lower back have gotten really achey when I'm really active, so I'm wondering if I should wear a support belt when I go for jogs/long walks/etc.
  • @blondie080300 they make belly bands that sort of lift your belly to bear some of the weight. Look into maternity support bands. Some are pretty involved, with shoulder straps and stuff, probably a little much for what you're looking for. Check out the Prenatal Cradle.
  • Awesome! Thanks for the suggestion @MrsVoorhees! And sorry you aren't feeling great either @SLou24.

My random for the day: Why are insurance companies so annoying?!?

About a month ago I got a bill in the mail for over $2000... even though DH and I have extremely good insurance with no deductible, and he WORKS AT THE HOSPITAL I'm being treated at. All of my pre-natal care is supposed to be covered 100%. So anyway I called and there was a mix up in insurance that they still thought I had my previous insurance (from before I got married...like 2 years ago...) even though that insurance has been long gone. So they said they "took care of it".

Well lo and behold just 2 days ago I get anther $1000+ bill from our hospital for one of my early visits, for the same reason. REALLY? So I called again and had virtually the same conversation again with the insurance company. I know it's not a huge deal because it's just a mistake, but if I have to keep calling the insurance company every single month to deal with this crap I'm going to explode. Although it would be almost entertaining to see the size of the bill that would come my way after L&D!
  • @SLou24 Those are the bill sizes I am actually getting! I work at a great job with lots of great benefits, but a very high deductible insurance plan. It's. the. WORST.
  • @SLou24 - Ugh. I'm sorry they haven't fixed that yet. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. I always dread calling my insurance company. Hopefully they fix it soon!

  • @SLou24 I got a 3000 bill for a prenatal care and it took 2 weeks to get them to realize their mistake. I hate insurance

  • @SLou24 I am currently in the boat of hating insurance too! My company has decided the premiums are too high and are going to switch companies. They have assured me that they will switch to another large company (currently aetna) and it SHOULDN'T effect my current care BUT they don't know which company yet and it will start on August 1st. Only 32 days before my due date, which means I will need to do a ton of stuff come august 1st to make sure everything is covered!

  • Oh, insurance does suck so bad. My HRA just ran out and now I'm working on the $3500 deductible remainder before they pay for anything. Blah!
  • @Thscary oh god! I would cry if I had a deductible.

  • The Father's Day pictures in the News section of TB almost just made me cry! So adorable! I bought fiance the book "Guess How Much I Love You" for Father's Day and wrote a note in it from baby and I about what an amazing dad he will be  :)
  • My random-- most TV shows have 3 children.  I wonder why?

  • @PSUBecky23 @camichael84 I also had a very good labor/delivery/recovery experience with my first and have the same fears as you both - how in the world would it possible for one person to get that lucky twice?  I'm trying to approach my fears the same way I did last time (ignoring them because there's no way to change it and who even knows what "it" is until I'm in the middle of it) but it's easier said than done!  I, too, am worried that this baby will be bigger than DD.  She was 7lb11oz...I joke with people that I was happy with that and don't want to have to find out what it's like to birth a 7lb12oz baby (or higher).  Lol

@blondie080300 I never used the belly support bands but I've heard good things about them.  Hopefully now that you're done traveling so much, your aches and pains will lessen even if you don't get a band!

And insurance.  Ugh.  Yuck.  No thank you.  (Oh, but I need it to live, so...)

  • I'm worried about a more complicated delivery this time too :(
  • Ugh insurance for sure. I'm 200 away from my 2K deductible that resets October 1st which is four days after my due date  :s. I'm really hoping baby comes like a week early....
  • @blondie080300 @SLou24 back in February I purchased these undergarment shaper shorts, kind of like spanx, from motherhood maternity and they are the most comfortable thing ever. Make sure you buy maternity ones because the front panel area is stretchy, specifically made for bumps.
  • @blondie080300 I love love love the name you picked!!! :) I'm having similar aches and pains- I've been curious about belly support wear. I bought a pair of maternity spanx and love them- but even those get old. I'd rather have something simpler/smaller.

My DH was grumpy over the weekend but made up for it on Sunday with doing an all-about-me day.

@UnwritteN12 I also did the footprint/handprint ornament project with DS. It was easiest doing it while he was in his jumper bc at 6 months he was so squirrelly! we gave them away as gifts to our family and I always love seeing them on other trees :)

Yuck, I'm sorry other ladies are having issues with insurance too! They really are the worst. I don't care how good the company is, I just hate dealing with them, and it's all about the bottom line. Definitely feeling for you high deductible ladies!!
  • Dude I hate our insurance! $7000 deductible $14000 max out of pocket which makes no sense to me.
My heartburn is out of control today. And that scares me. I had a perforated ulcer 2 weeks PP last time. I was in ICU for 3 days and lost my BM supply. Then when baby boy was 9 months old it happened again and I had to have it surgically repaired. I was so week from not eating solid food for 3 months and I got down to 110 lbs which for me is gross skinny. I do not want to go through that again!
  • @lovelylauren86 I hope everything is okay and it's just heartburn!

And omg what's the point of insurance if you pay that much??? They should be paying you a premium at that point lol

My medical bills before insurance were roughly $500,000 so it definitely helped lol
  • @lovelylauren86 .....yeah definitely a better figure lol
