I had an "experience" last night..i was in bed for the night but just got up to pee one last time and I had a shooting sharp pain in my upper abdomen. Idk if it was my first real contraction, as I've never had one, or something else. I was doubled over onto the bed for a good minute and couldn't move at all. It literally felt like someone was stabbing. DH felt my stomach and said it was hard. I would expect a contraction to be felt lower and more evenly, not just top right side near my ribs. Anyone have any idea?

    @Lydiadiane

It could be RLP. I've gotten some sharp ones lately especially getting out of bed. Just a thought.

@Lydiadiane - I get that just about every time I get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.... Yay.  And it's been going on a few weeks, and at my 38 week visit last week, I wasn't a bit dilated.

@Lydiadiane same here but like @kwilliams3402 it has been happening when i get up to go pee in the middle of the night

Today, i feel like crap, had breakfast pizza and some milk and didn't help that last night i woke up a lot to go pee, will see what doc says today at doc appt, last night it hurt to move from one side to the other so bad i just layed on my left for a while it literally takes me a few minutes to move from one side to the other and sleep is becoming less now and on top of that when i fall asleep i have some weird scary dreams at times blah

So I have been contracting for 24 hours pretty regularly ever since my appointment yesterday where I had my membranes stripped (I was 2cm 50% and -3 station). I worked for 4 hours this morning, lost the remainder of my mucous plug (sorry TMI). Contractions are kind of increasing in intensity but I'm not doubled over. My friend who works in L&D said I could labor like this at home for 4 days. God I hope not. I am at the point I just want to be put on pit and get this show on the road. Only slept for 3 hours last night ... Ugh the suspense is killing me!
Seriously my ob this morning was like "you're in pain. Just go have this baby!"  So here I am 3cm, 80% with the baby's head not engaged but they started the pitocin. If you're in pain then call your ob and see what they can do.

@jkershaw2013 -  with dd1 my contractions started on a Sunday and she was born on Thursday evening (with very little sleep in between).  We went to the hospital Wednesday morning, I ended up on pitocin and then ended up with a c-section.  As miserable as it is laboring at home, the hospital was worse.  Both my husband and I wish we would have waited to go to the hospital.

@jkershaw2013 -  I remember the frustration all too well. It was the worst at night, when the contractions would amp up and everyone else in the world, including dh, was sleeping.  My thoughts are with you and I really hope baby decides to come soon.

@jkershaw2013 *Hugs* The prolonged anticipation is emotionally draining! Hope you can find a good way to distract yourself to help time pass until it's really hospital time!

I feel you. I really thought we were going in last night, but contractions stopped by about 7 am. I'm pretty sure I have now lost my mucus plug completely, though, so I hope some dilating happened at least. We're heading to dinner with our neighbors to the restaurant they ate at when she went into labor with their 2nd kid, so maybe that will do the trick for us, too!

My tailbone is killing me...maybe that's a sign I've been sitting on my butt too much...or baby is getting lower. Let's hope it's the second one.

I've been having frequent strong BH all day. So much so that it's making my uterus sore. I walked down to L&D since I work at the hospital and on the monitor it didn't show any real contractions and there was no change in my cervix, still 2cm dilated and 70% effaced since 32w. Dr sent me on my way and said to come back if my water breaks or I have a bloody discharge. I didn't know BH could be so intense and somewhat painful, I hope I won't have 3 weeks of this!

I've been cramping all day on and off and now have the shakes and can't fall asleep. No BH that were consistent today. I just took an acetaminophen and chugged more water. I'm going to try a warm shower and hope it all goes away. I'm not quite sure what to make of it.

@midwestbaby same problem here.  Very crampy.  Tried to drink lots of water and took Tylenol and it comes and goes.

37+6, Been up since 3am with diarrhea and pretty moderate period cramps. I had so many false alarms with DS that I am nervous to call the OB. Giving it an hour and then calling.

Same. Mine comes and goes. I can tell baby has dropped more. I think she is making my cervix spaz out. Feels like period cramps. No amount of water makes it go away.

@BrunetteBabe722 I finished peeing and felt like someone scratched my uterus right before my water broke. Came with slight pressure but at the time, I didn't know if it was pee or not.

I wiped and saw that I spotted. That's when I knew something was off! Also, the leak got stronger - gushing and all. Fluid was all clear and no smell.

My mucous plug didn't come out until about two hours after my water broke! Just looked like the end of my period type of discharge :/

Yesterday was awful... my day started with lightning crotch, and then turned into contractions and intense pain. Long story short, I had a UTI that went to my kidney. Vomiting, nausea, chills... ugh! Thank goodness the antibiotics kicked in quick and I'm pain free today. Whewww.

@acpear11 Oh no! That sounds awful! Glad the abx are doing their job!

Baby doesn't seem to be dropping yet visually, but it must be starting because all last night and today baby keeps hitting some nerve which is sending shooting pains down one of my legs. Ouch!!!!

Just hit 37weeks and this pressure on my hip and butt is a bit much for me and with him having very little space every movement of his hurts. I've never been a crybaby about pain, but whew this is putting my body through something. Tylenol is a joke to me right now

Last minute anxiety has also hit too. Super nervous about delivery and baby latching properly

@caitlinj187 That happened to me right before he visibly dropped.

@Allisun85 did it go away at all for you? I'm just hoping it doesn't get way worse before/during L&D

I was outside all weekend (like 12 hour days) and it was hot and humid. So besides the constant swelling of the feet and legs, I now have chafing on my inner thighs and my swollen "area". Super fun.

@No more Miss! - I might have died being outside that long.  Props to you!!

@kwilliams3402 my scheduled c/s is Monday 8/8, and I keep asking everyone at work if they have a long crochet needle LOL. They look at me like I'm nuts but I agree-I wish spontaneous labor would start!

@amandazap - My husband is convinced baby won't come until we evict him, and besides baby being head down, there was no progress at my exam last week.  But, I still wake up every day hoping that today may be the day! Hopelessly optimistic.

I keep the hope that I'll go early. I'm only 1 cm though not sure about effacement. I should find out tomorrow at my last dr. appt.

I've lost my mucas plug this morning, and even though I know this essentially means nothing as far as how soon labor will begin, I'm SO excited! Now every cramp or minor discomfort leaves me thinking this could be the day--waiting is torture!
  • Options
@acpear11 I'm at FTM does lighting crotch feel like literally a sharp pain directly down below and very sharp? What does that mean dilation or? You mentioned you had a UTI is lightning crotch then a symptom of that or?

sorry for all the questions but that happened to be the other day and I was dying it hurt so bad, no contractions or anything.

@terezakatarina  - for me, it seems to be (I didn't have this with my first, this has been a new experience for me) the baby bearing down on my cervix. It feels like a shooting pain in my actual vagina, down the birth canal. It goes straight down. I'm not sure if I'm dilated or not, I've not had any cervical checks.

I've had persistently worse swelling throughout the third trimester, but my blood pressure has always hovered around 120/80... Higher than pre-pregnancy but not hypertension level. Well, I started getting headaches over the weekend, so I kept a closer eye on my blood pressure with a home reader. Consistently 120/75-80, but both Saturday evening and tonight it was 143-145/80 around 9 pm. All day today, it was about 130/80. Saturday evening after the 140-something reading, I laid down and rested and took it again after 2 hours, and it was back in the 120s. I'm going to take it again tonight after laying down for a couple hours, and at minimum call the doctor tomorrow and let them know since there have now been two 140+ night readings. Has anyone had these evening BP spikes? Today for instance I was no more active all evening than I had been all day, so I don't think it's specific activity causing spikes... Time awake and the heat of the day, if anything.

@kwilliams3402 we are symptom twins right now. I've had headaches on and off all weekend and BP spikes. Nothing outrageous just higher than my "normal". At my checkup last week the Dr said to call if I started getting headaches, high BP, swelling etc. So I'm waiting till 8am when my Dr goes back on call to call in and see what they say. Good luck. Hope everything works out for you.
