Re: Post Partum Thread

  • I'm with you @JoMunson...they totally saved me. Go for the baths as much as you can!!! My stitches seemed to dissolve pretty quickly...like around 10 days I think. I also got Tucks pads (I don't know if they're available in the US but they're wipes soaked in a witch hazel solution used for haemorrhoids)...if you can find them or something similar they're amazing. I literally put them right against my lady parts then put on my underwear and pad. They're super cooling and soothing. I would change them every time I went to the bathroom. I also took ibuprofen around the clock for at least the first week because I was so achy down there
Yes!! Tucks pads are available in the states! I didn't use them but I saw them in a local store. Sitz baths are great too because for the first week or so I just felt generally dirty, especially down there since I was afraid to really clean myself after the bathroom. The sitz bath was really refreshing!

  • Anyone else having issues with their hands and arms going numb easier than usual?  If I lay on my side for too long or hold DS in an awkward position while BFing they start to tingle.  I know there's such a thing as pregnancy/BFing induced carpel tunnel, so I'm hoping its that.  But man is it annoying!

I'm sweating  like a beast at night. The good news is my swelling seems to be gone (7 d pp, after a c/s). The bad news is I'm sweating like a beast and my tops and sheets get wet and then cold. I suspect I'm also way dehydrated in the morning. . Just curious if anyone is experiencing the same? Do these sweats stop?

  • @vinerie mine took about a week, I hope you're almost through it! Ugh that's one of the things I'm dreading the most about recovery.

@Bluejay3030 yes I remember that! Try to find more comfortable positions and use TONS of pillows to avoid holding him in funky ways. I always did the weirdest acrobatics at night so we got extra pillows for awhile!

Funny I expected to be hot pp based on everything I've read... But I'm freezing all the time! I guess after being a furnace for 5 months I can't get any hotter ;)

  • @vinerie I'm still sweating day 9. I wake up drenched and then freeze through nursing! I think I had this for a couple weeks the first time around...

  • @vinerie I got night sweats around the time my milk came in. It lasted for 4-5 nights for me before leveling out. I still get hot and sweat if the duvet is on me, but I got that way pre-preg as well.
  • My sweats hit all on night 1 this time. I had my hospital room at 55F and I was still pouring sweat in beads down my back and face like I was in 100 degree heat. Poor DH was bundled up so much. Last time, I was a sweaty mess for about a week.

I had intense night sweats for about a week after . I would wake up soaked and the sheets soaked. While it was unpleasant I lost a ton of water weight and my swelling decreased significantly

This just started for me last night, about 6 days PP. I had them last time and they lasted a full week and then off and on after that. Some women have them for a lot longer but it's just due to changing hormone levels and the good thing is, it helps relieve swelling eventually. Drink tons of water!

How long has everyone waited for visitors to come to the house? We have had family over, but I'm so exhausted I really don't want to have to entertain anyone else, I'm having a nice time quietly adjusting to our new life, and I worry about exposing Jet to more cooties than necessary. I feel like a b***h telling everyone we aren't ready for visitors since I know our friends are just excited to meet her. Wondering how everyone else is dealing with well-meaning friends who want to visit.

I guess you have to make a distinction between help and visitors. My mom has been here since I was discharged from the hospital, but she's cooking and cleaning and watching the baby when I nap and it's awesome. My mother-in-law came and wanted to be entertained, which was hard. I have a friend coming over tomorrow, which will be eight days pp.  Because of all the help, I feel ready for a brief visitor.

  • @bkjade - My father in law was hot to fly in for one day at about the 2 week mark. We agreed, and in the end, I'm glad he got to see his granddaughter. On the other hand, it was exhausting even with just a 6-8 hour visit, and she's not very interactive at the moment anyway.

I just had another friend from out of state ask what we were doing this weekend. She's been trying to visit, and I love her, but having her, her husband, and their THREE kids here this weekend after my husband's first full week back at work? You'd think she'd know better after having three kids herself. Before she could even ask, I said how happy we were to take my mom to the airport on Saturday and have the weekend to ourselves and LO to decompress. I don't want to make her think I don't want to see her, but I'm still recovering and trying to get the hang of being a FTM of a newborn. I can't handle 5 extra bodies. I can hardly handle a 9 pound body at this point.
  • Anyone know anything about an achy overall arthritis feeling? 11 days pp and my joints hurt as I'd imagine arthritis would feel. Especially my hands and knees but I also feel it in my elbows feet neck and shoulders.

Yes! Experiencing both of those too.
I usually run so very cold except during pregnancy and the first part PP. It gets ridiculous.

Dang I thought I'd come around the board more often right after! I'll catch up soon! But... Before yesterday recovery was absolutely horrendous. Then all the sudden, down there felt like 95% better. So I had a little peek... My stitches have dissolved and I now have a gaping hole!!! My tear did not close. It doesn't hurt really at all...called for an appt & they said it'll close on it's own & just keep it clean. I've never heard of this before. Any others experience this?!

This is why I refuse to look at what's going on down there any time soon!!!  I really don't want to know.

Lol I'm all about looking! I looked like the day after--I'm just curious as to what happened down there! Haha-- my pain was really bad 2 days ago and I made my sister look. That's love. Major love.

  • Finally got the confidence to trim my lady zone (after I told my husband we needed to do yard work and he said "I didn't think you called it that..."). I haven't felt this fresh since first trimester! Of course my bleeding has now transitioned into an exercise induced syrupy discharge...that's fun.
    baby steps.
  • I'm 3 weeks postpartum. Bleeding is only really light but I've noticed some serious itching. I'm assuming it's from the stitches. Anyone else deal with this around that time? Wanting to rule out all other possibilities.

Yes!! It actually helped me to trim my pubic hair and use a baby wipe. Still itchy sometimes but not nearly as bad.
  • RE: night sweats. I've been waking up with dry hands and mouth and covered in sweat. I don't even want to sleep with a shirt on anymore. I thought I drank a lot of water before, now I drink almost twice as much. I'm also ready to stop the sweats and stomach swelling.

I remember one night at the hospital, I started sweating a ton then got cold and shook uncontrollably. I had to wake DH up to get the nurse so I could get more blankets. It was awful. Felt like I was shaking going into the OR again.

Yes. It sucks! Unfortunately I'm almost 4 weeks PP and it's still itching some. Trimming down there didn't help much either, although I did switch the type of bags I was using to ones that I found more comfortable, and that helped.

Yes itching like a mofo which is insanely
uncomfortable . I even had to take a peek down there to make sure it wasn't a yeast infection.
  • 1) May 5th!

    2) C-Section

    3) I am actually pretty bummed about it and struggling with the thought that I didn't give birth...

    4) Recovery is going as well as is expected, I assume. Off the pain meds and have been for over a week. Feeling pretty fine, physically.

    5) As stated, I have been struggling with my delivery. It has me really bummed and down. I wanted to do the whole shebang naturally, but had to opt for the epidural 5 hours after being induced. After nearly 12 hours of laboring, we started pushing. I pushed for two hours with no progression. Every time I pushed, his heart rate would spike and not come back down... so the c-section was a must. I didn't get to go skin to skin immediately and had to wait an hour before holding my son. The loss of expectations is crippling.
  • Question for STMs. What is to be expected at the 6 week PP appointment? I go in next week for my 6 appointment and am just not sure what this appointment entails.

Ha well at my 6 week pp appt with my son my doctor did an internal examination and told me that my hormone levels had essentially made my vagina look post menopausal (her exact words- "I just did an exam on a 70 year old woman and it looked just like this" ). So hopefully you don't get to hear that lovely comparison! Basically they'll talk to you about how you're feeling, check out your healing process, and let you know if they recommend you return to exercise/ sex. My doctor strongly recommended I wait til 3 months to resume having sex because my hormone levels were so bottomed out, and frankly I was happy to listen to that recommendation!
  • I'm definitely not up for it as I am only 3 weeks PP, but in curious of any moms that were intimate with their SO before their 6 week appt? I've heard of some women trying around 4 weeks. DH is definitely getting stir crazy but understands my hesitation on wanting to wait until my doc appt at 6 weeks. Heck, I'm still terrified to look down there even though I've pretty much stopped bleeding and 'think' my stitches have dissolved. I apparently prefer ignoring my situation and keep caring for it as if I'm still in the hospital lol.

I'm almost 4 weeks PP. I made MH look yesterday and he says everything is normal. I'm still sore down there so I won't be having sex my 6 weeks but I feel bad for making MH wait any longer than that.
  • I'm 4 weeks pp and DH is struggling sex wise, especially since we weren't very intimate before LO's arrival. We did some him only stuff starting about 6 days pp, and he waited until I was done with my pp bleeding before doing some non-penetration sex and it was amazing. It was definitely scary at first and I think having penetration sex will be scary as well but it was a really uplifting experience!
  • I'm one month PP and I still have a lot of discharge. Not really blood, but enough that I don't really want to have sex like that. My PP OB appointment is Monday, so we'll see what she says.

  • I'll be 6 weeks PP on Sunday. I've got my OB appt the following Thursday. I wanted to wait until then just to be sure. MH is dying to have sex because we only did it about 3 times in 9 months. I'm surprised I actually feel ready for it but I'm definitely scared it's going to hurt. Feels like yesterday things stopped hurting from delivery even though it hasn't hurt in weeks! I think I've used the OB appt as an excuse more than anything but I'm going to be fresh out of excuses come next week so just going to have to bite the bullet!
