I know this was discussed on an earlier thread, but now that we are all close to our 6w PP check up- What kind of birth control is everyone going to? I *think* I remember a lot were going to FAM but those of you who are not what are you going to use?
Good question. I'm considering the IUD (not sure which one) and had previously been on the pill. I got migraines every month around my period which then stopped once I got off the pill so I'm not eager to get back on it and I'm wondering if a hormonal IUD will have the same result. Maybe copper is the answer?

I don't think the IUD would have the same side effects because it is just progesterone and the pill was probably with estrogen. I am thinking of an IUD as well but can't decide which one. Maybe @ayeshaohara can help us.

Hey friends ok so a few things
1) @babyfmama you shouldn't have been on the pill if you get migraines. It's generally considered a contraindication.
2) hormonal IUD like Mirena will generally have less side effects because most of its effect is local at the cervix and the hormones don't circulate your entire system like the pill. However I have still had many reports of people still having side effects. At the end of the day it's a medication and all drugs have potential side effects. This is certainly a better and safe option for those with migraines (I have migraines and have had one in before)
3) copper IUDs arent great. They usually make periods heavier. I don't see them used very often anymore because of this
@pooputtette I'm going with the copper IUD since it has no hormones. We were going to use condoms/NFP but SO is not into the condoms so I did some research and this IUD is 100% covered through my insurance. We are planning on having another in two years and I have a hard time remembering pills. Plus I'm breastfeeding and am worried about drying up with hormonal contraception.
ETA: I didn't see this question anywhere so sorry if it's a repeat. Is there a normal amt of milk that you should get when you pump? I know everyone is different, but I seem to get 2oz on my right and only half an oz to 1oz on my left. I'm trying to increase my milk supply so I'm pumping between feedings for the same length she nurses which is about 15-20 minutes.
We're still going with NFP. DH said he really isn't a big fan of condoms and I said "okay but there is a chance we could get pregnant before a year" and he seemed fine with it (I am too!) so we're gunna just see how it goes.
I had my 6 week PP check up and dr suggested condone bleh! I had mirena between DS1 and DD, had it removed when TTC. I instantly realized all of the side affects it was causing me and I won't go back to that again. Dr said the mini pill may reduced milk supply and I just don't want to chance it. We were doing NFP, then had a wedding induced moment of weakness and bam, Grayson. I have no problem going back to NFP since it worked well for 5 years, I always had a very trackable and regular cycle. I haven't gotten a period though and who knows when I will, so that makes me nervous.
Ladies, How's the numbness!? I'm 2weeks PP and my thumb, index and middle finger fingertips on my right hand are all numb.
Anyone have this issue too? Or did you and have it and it's gone away?
This sounds very odd to me! Can't think of any reason you should have numbness in your upper body. Lower would make a little sense if you had an epidural but I would be getting that checked out ASAP
@jenl1681 what side effects did you have with the mirena?
Here's the side effects from the product info. This is not an exhaustive list but the main and most common side effects. I also got rid of mine due to side effects.
Re: Paragard, I used it for about a year before we started TTC. In my case, my periods didn't get super heavy, but the cramping was a nightmare. It wasn't just a temporary side effect for me! Obviously everyone is going to have a different experience, but I'm definitely not getting another one.
@pooputtette I ended up not having a period at all, which was a plus, but then I was always feeling like I was pregnant, so I was testing all the time. Once I got it removed things that I had just thought of as "normal" turned out not to be. I would wake up every morning and have intense itching on my thighs, sometimes even scratched them during the night, I had zero libido, headaches increased, mood swings that increased during the time I would normally have a period, I cried about the weirdest things (I'm not a crier normally) I had it in for about 2 years and lived with these things during that time, it's just not something I would personally go back to.

Same...except I also had super heavy periods, and non stop spotting inbetween. I gave it 7 months and had it taken out I was so irritated
Now im getting nervous since this decision is close now. I'm tempted to try the Mirena since it's so compatible with breastfeeding and a busy life, and have been assured by doctors that the unpleasant side effects of Paraguard are unlikely to repeat thanks to the hormones in Mirena. I'm scared of all the other side effects though!
We want to wait to try for a third for at least a year and a half or two, if ever. So yeah. Shooooot.
Anyone getting the weird dreams? This time around, I'm not waking up panicked, but I still think there's a baby in my bed somewhere! Every single time I wake up! I'll check my blankets convinced a baby is swaddled in there somewhere. It's so crazy!!

Yes! I'm not dreaming about it, but I always, without fail wake up frantically! I get the covers and sheets off of me as fast as I can to get the baby out only to realize that there is no baby on me, or in bed at all. Baby has been sleeping soundly just next to me safe in the RNP like he always is. It's like a sick joke every single night!

This happened to me tonight! We don't bedshare so why I woke up looking for her in the blankets I don't know!!
When I was pg my feet hurt sooooo badly. They ached, and when standing, pains in my heels. That's went away right after delivery, but lucky me...itis now back. And worse than before. Add to that strains in my back ( I couldn't get out of bed last night ) and sore/aching legs, and I almost feel worse at just about 5 weeks pp than I did before. Anyone else? Every part of me just hurts. Getting off the floor after playing is like watching a life alert ad (Help, I've fallen and I can't get up!). I just don't want to feel like I'm 87 years old anymore...

My feet hurt a lot during pregnancy and they are starting up again too. I was attributing this to working out, but maybe not. I also just feel elderly most days.

My hip and ankle just started acting up again and it's just as bad as when I was pregnant. Hoping it goes back to normal soon because I had like two weeks pain free after delivery
I know some of y'all were stressing because you were having a hard time eating anything - did that ever get better? I'm having to force myself to eat at every meal and I'm really starting to feel the consequences of not eating enough every day, which is not good because I need the strength/energy to take care of LO.

DD is 4 weeks tomorrow and I feel like I've gotten some of my appetite back the last couple days. I still have to remember to eat enough but it's not as bad as it was.

I actually just noticed this yesterday but I've been having sore/achy legs almost like I went and worked out or something (obviously I didn't ). Not really anywhere else that I've noticed, but I'm sure there are more to come.
@yogahh every inch of my body hurts. I'm all achy, everywhere, all the time. The joints in my hand, wrist, knees, neck, upper back. I swear I've aged 20 years.
@amberraysofdawn I wish I lost my appetite. Instead I'm more hungry than I was pregnant. I'll never lose the baby weight this way.
@jenl1681 I had Mirena too. Loved it! Until I had it removed because we were TTC. I thought my low libido, mood swings, and headaches were normal but now I know I was experiencing Mirena side effects. I was prescribed a mini pill at discharge and started it at 2 weeks PP. Once I'm cleared at my 6 wk PP appointment I'll be good to go.
When will the night sweats end!!! Just about 4 wks PP and I swear like crazy every night. DH takes LO every evening so I can shower but it feels like a waste when I swear all night. Is there anything I can do?
@kami09, I seriously thought I was going nutty due to sleep deprivation! I'm 8 wks pp and I still wake up and start tearing at the covers and yelling at DH to wake up because I'm convinced LO is suffocating somewhere in the bed. It was happening almost every night, but has thankfully gotten less frequent. Maybe it's hormonal?
I still get occasional night sweats and a little blood if LO is BFing a lot that day. Maybe this is TMI, but I feel like I smell all the time. I'm showering everyday, compulsive about my deodorant, and have shaved, exfoliated and scrubbed under my arms daily. But I still feel smelly like I did from excessively sweating at the end of my pregnancy. I can't stand it!

Yes to smelling! I feel like I usually smell like spit up or pee or baby wipes (baby peed on me and I can't take a shower yet) or just BO. Even my vagina smells different. Thank goodness for scented lotion!
Okay...glad to hear I'm not the only one! My husband thinks I'm crazy! He's always like, "Please stop. The baby is right here." & I have to tell him that no, I'm looking for the other baby! So weird this happens to lots of women...someone needs to do a study on it lol

Not really. But I really force liquids, meals, and keep snacks available at all times because BF supply.
For me I think it is just lack of energy and severe sleep deprivation because I am normally a foodie type person who loves cooking, baking, shopping for food, thinking about food, reading about food, etc. I am sure it will come back but right now I don't have the bandwidth for it.
I am not ready for a solo adventure with an infant and active toddler to the grocery store yet. (Hence late night Amazon orders of bags of jalapeño deli chips and jars of almond butter because that just sounded like a good idea while nursing a baby at 2:30 am)

I do this too! My theory is that primally, we expect baby to be sleeping with us and when he/she isn't, it causes sleepy panic. I didn't bedshare until later with DS, once this had subsided though, so I have no idea...it's just a thought. I forget who all is bedsharing vs cosleeping/room sharing. Any bedsharing mamas freak out this way nightly?

I've bed shared since day one and the way we do it Ezra is between husband and on the bed (no co sleeper or bassinet). At first I basically didn't sleep, now I usually wake up with a start about twice a night (more if DH or the dog is moving around). Whenever people ask if I'm worried I'll squish the baby I just think "are you serious? I'm not ACTUALLY sleeping". I literally woke up once because Ezra smacked his lips. And this from a woman who has slept through multiple alarm clocks more than once.
@joemunson, ok, as weird as this sounds, I feel better knowing I'm not the only one who feels smelly. Time to invest in more body scrub...
Also, what you described is exactly why I can't cosleep. I've tried cosleeping during his naps in the hope that he will fight sleep less, but he's noisy constantly and I just can't sleep. Even exhausted, I usually end up staring at the ceiling or messing with my phone. So it's either no sleep or the frantic mommy startle reflex.

Yup. That's totally it! I chose co sleeping because for me it was worse if he wasn't in the same bed as me! im constantly asking me husband if I smell, he says no so whatever, right?

Also, when you are sleep deprived your brain spends a much greater chunk of the night in REM sleep, which is when you dream, and is also much more disorienting to wake up from, so maybe that plays a role? We bed share from 5:00 am on because that's when my husband leaves for work and I can't get the baby out of the bassinet easily on my own because of my torn stomach muscle, and she's super cranky/ light sleeper in the early morning. But I feel like I never truly fall back asleep when she's in the bed because it's just weird for me to have her right there, so I haven't experienced the frantic searching yet.
If so, is there any difference between it and a PNP besides the fact that the bedside rail seems to lower and that there are additional parts you can buy to raise it to the level of your bed? Am thinking of making the splurge, if it means more sleep (I'm too paranoid for bed sharing, but this seems like a good compromise)?
