@camichael84- last Friday on pizza day she was grabbing a couple of slices and goes "OH MY GOD, ANNA.. AM I EVEN ALLOWED TO EAT PEPPERONI?!" screaming across the table. Good god, woman. Eat your damn pepperoni and stop making a scene about everything pregnancy-related.. you make the rest of us look bad.
@UnwritteN12 I hope all is well, and that you have an enjoyable day working from home! I'd be in my pajamas if I was you! Who am I kidding? I'm a SAHM. I'm in my pajamas right now.
@AnnaS930 I would have wanted to shout back, "No! Cooked pepperoni is the last thing a woman should have! But she should go to a country with a Zika outbreak!"
@AnnaS930 I would have wanted to shout back, "No! Cooked pepperoni is the last thing a woman should have! But she should go to a country with a Zika outbreak!"
Missed opportunity for sure. What I was really thinking is "You're asking the vegetarian if it's ok to eat pepperoni.. you don't want my real opinion"
@UnwritteN12 I have palpitations all the time, way worse while pregnant! Years ago, I went to my general doctor about it at first, thinking I had reflux and my esophagus was in spasm. She listened once and in a panicked voice said, "Get me an EKG! Take off your shirt, it's your heart!" And she stood there in the room while I took off my shirt and bra. Lol it was the most awkward thing ever. And then they run the EKG and the nurse keeps saying, "look....did you see this part??" And no one is telling me anything.
So fast forward, they send me to a cardiologist and the first thing he says is, "I know they said you had a heart attack, but it definitely wasn't." WTF no one said anything about that!! I was 22 years old. Turns out it wasn't anything that interesting, just a signal misfire in my heart that's really common and nothing to worry about.
I hope that it's the same for you, nothing to worry about and just some excited doctors!
@UnwritteN12Hope everything comes back ok on your monitor and it's just a normal part of pregnancy.
@MrsVoorheesthat reaction is never OK! I totally expect my doctors/nurses to be calm and cool in a situation like that, not add to the hysteria. Glad the cardiologist was able to bring you down even if the 'heart attack' theory was never mentioned to you, eeek!
Thanks all. I'm thinking it's all pregnancy related but better safe than sorry. @MrsVoorhees - Wow! That's crazy. I'm thankful that my doctors have been super calm about anything because. They've helped to keep me at ease! Glad everything turned out ok for you! @camichael84 - LoL! PJs were on the second I got home! No reason to be anything but comfy when I'm being a bum around the house!
@Sbrown721 So far, I've had my dating u/s at 8 weeks and then the a/s at 20 weeks. I don't believe I'll get another u/s unless there's a reason to later on. With DD, I had the dating u/s, an u/s as part of genetic testing at 12 weeks, the a/s at 20 weeks and then a growth u/s (because my belly started measuring big) at 38 weeks.
I think I'll probably end up with 2-3. I had a dating ultrasound around 9 weeks because we weren't sure when I ovulated, and I got pregnant immediately following a MC. I had my standard a/s at 20 weeks, and I think I'll have one close to the end to check the baby's position before labor, etc. I personally won't be getting any elective ones, and I'm not high risk, so no extras there either!
@Sbrown721- similar to previous posters. I had a dating ultrasound at 8 weeks, my anatomy scan at 20 weeks, and will have a followup around 32 weeks to see if the tech saw a placental lake or not (OB seems to doubt it and isn't concerned even if present.. but wants confirmation). Last pregnancy I had dating, anatomy, and one at 41 weeks a couple days before induction as they like to make sure that baby is in great position and all looks good before the stress of forcing him out. Turns out I went into labor the next day and that ultrasound meant nothing... but was a fun last minute glimpse!
I have my glucose tolerance screening today. It's the one hour one. I'm a little scared The doctor didn't tell me to fast (I even called to double check and they said it wasn't necessary, wtf?) so I've just been eating protein this morning and planning to stop water/food an hour before the screening.
Sbrown721 - I've had three so far. The first was a dating ultrasound which was given early at around 7 weeks because I had a previous loss. The second was at 12 weeks because the doctor couldn't find the heartbeat on the doppler. The third was the a/s. I don't think any more are planned as of now, but you never know!
@mom2adoodle- they typically only draw blood 1 hour after you drink the glucola, there's no fasting level drawn for the 1 hour test like there is for the 3 hour test, so fasting shouldn't be necessary for this one! Protein sounds good, I think other than really sugar-loading right before the test, the cut-offs are high enough that they're only detecting how your body processes the glucola, not what you ate prior to it.
GOOD LUCK!
I called this morning to see if I was getting my glucose tolerance test this week (24 weeks) and they said not until 28 weeks! I seemed to remember mine being pretty far along last time, so that sounds right. I'm in no rush to get it, somewhat expecting to fail it again but we'll see!
@Sbrown721My OB's office typically only does an 8 week u/s for dating and then the a/s. However, I have hypertension that puts me at a little higher risk. With my first I got extra ultrasounds at 24 weeks, 32 weeks, and 36 weeks. And at 24 weeks we had to get some shots that we missed at the a/s. This pregnancy, we aren't doing another u/s until 30 weeks. I don't know if she'll want any more after that, and it will likely depend on how baby is measuring. I did get a couple sneak peek ultrasounds at 16 and 18 weeks. 16 was because they couldn't get a clear heartbeat on the doppler and 18 was elective.
@mom2adoodle I hope it goes well! Try not to be scared. It's really not a big deal. I did a one hour at my 8 week appointment. I ate as I normally would because I didn't know they'd be doing it. I even had an apple right before I left for the appointment (so maybe 30 minutes before drinking the glucola). I have a prior history of GD, and the results from that test came back perfectly normal, so I don't think what you eat before will majorly impact your results.
@Sbrown721 I had one at 7, 11 and 20 weeks. I start an ultrasound and NSTs every week at 34 weeks because of my thyroid. But I'm pretty sure anywhere from 2-4 is in the normal range for a non high risk pregnancy.
Ugh, I am insatiably hungry today and have now given myself a bellyache because I went and bought Doritos and Reese's Pieces on my lunch break. Waaaah.
@Sbrown721 I just had one u/s at 20w (the a/s) and don't plan to have another one unless they need me to come back for some reason later on. It really just depends on pregnancy, the OB or midwife practice, and probably some personal preference (if there's no risk).
@AnnaS930 Oh no! Hope you feel better. I'm on the opposite boat, I'm always starving but nothing sounds remotely appealing. Except for chips and guac. LOL. I ate that all weekend. I'm still nauseous a lot so I'm assuming that has something to do with it.
@mom2adoodle- I haven't been snacky at all at work for the past 4 weeks (in an effort to curb the weight gain and get the healthy pregnancy I wanted) then today hit and I can't get enough. I gave in.. and now I feel nauseous. It's odd because I used to snack a lot in earlier pregnancy because I felt nauseous, now the actual snacking is what makes me nauseous. Yuck. But thank you - I'm sure it'll go away. I also have my feet up to keep the swelling down and that is super squishing my big ol' baby bump so there's not much room in there for the candy and chips. Already texted my husband that some leftovers for dinner would be fine
@UnwritteN12 hope you get some answers and good news. You are pretty lucky that you can work from home when needed!
@mom2adoodle good luck! I am pretty nervous about mine next month and just hoping it all goes well. I don't know why they said I am supposed to be fasting when I do it as I'd never heard of that before and the BTDT moms here confirmed no fasting is needed so I wouldn't worry about it. I'm going to ask at my 24w appointment when I get the glucola to be sure.
@Sbrown721 I've had a bunch of scans (due to a previous loss and anxiety disorder) but the norm is one at 8 weeks for dating and viability and one at 20 weeks. Some doctors add the NT scan at 12 weeks and some doctors just do the anatomy scan at 20 weeks. As of right now, we will have one at 35 weeks to check position, growth, fluid levels and they also check the heart thoroughly then and we will also do an elective 3D one at 28-32 weeks.
@mom2adoodle I think it depends on your doctor. Mine always does, but she reports that she "suspects baby is small", but in reality, she's checking position. She reports it that way so insurance will pay, because they won't cover a scan to check position. Some doctors only do one ultrasound, the anatomy scan, the entire pregnancy as long as everything is going well.
My randoms for the day 1) I just now noticed I didn't shave my legs this morning and my pants are "ankle length", so it's definitely showing. 2) I ate waaaaay too much this weekend including an entire carton of Talenti gelato. My husband called me out on it, and nagged me about it all yesterday (wtf?). This morning turns out I lost 2 lbs. Suck it DH! 3) I have a headache and gave in to my sugar cravings again, picked up some Swedish Fish and Haribo Happy Cola gummies. I'll call it a win if I don't finish the entire two bags.
@Steephers123 I'm purposely trying not to buy Talenti Caramel Cookie Crunch. It is my absolute favorite thing in the world this pregnancy and you better believe I finish that bad boy in 2 days each time I open one.
@AmMcc12what is a slash pile? Like leaves and sticks? We call that "burning brush" up my way Love the local phrases.
Also - I had a stomach ache from eating junk. Then I went to the bathroom and I feel better again. The Doritos and Reese's Pieces are in my desk calling my name. Must make it through the next hour without diving back in!
Students are working on their exam review - or in reality, using today as a free period. I'm looking up quilt patterns on Pinterest for baby/Christmas. Not that I'm actually an early planner for holidays, but I'm in a crafty mood and will have a whole summer to do nothing...
@Sbrown721 That was totally the flavor I ate! It was amazing, and it's on sale at Target this week. If I step in there I know I'm going to end up buying more, so I'm trying to avoid having to go in.
@Jabreen- I found that having baby quilt/sewing projects to complete before he came made the third trimester move along a little quicker (It can really drag). I also hardly touched crafting projects for a good 3 months after he was born as naps were unpredictable in length and I didn't want to dive into projects and have to pack them right back up... so I encourage you to do lots of crafts ahead if you have the urge!! Best time to do it!
Ladies I am so over the moon happy right now. A friend of mine gave birth to her twins at 23 weeks back in feb. It's been a constant battle to see if they would make it. But! As of today they are cleared of all serious illnesses/abnormalities and they should grow up to be healthy fully functioning boys! I just can't stop smiling
Please keep my student in your thoughts and prayers. He was supposed to come with us to the city this past weekend, but ended up not being able to go. He was riding his bike late Friday night and got hit by a truck. He is in ICU until at least Thursday. I keep thinking that if he went on the trip, none of this would've happened
