@MrsVoorhees I believe our girls are the same age (mine will be 2 in September), and I'm struggling with getting her to use her words as well. I use the same tactic I did at work... saying "use your words, please", pointing to and repeating things, asking "do you want a cracker?", and just overall explaining everything I do to her... including talking in third person. That said, most 20 month olds don't have a large amount of verbal skills. Most of what I do, I know, works much more effectively with a 2 year old.
@Sbrown721 I believe we registered for the one you posted for our first, but Target had a deal where we got this one free with the purchase of our crib. We like it, it's a decent price, and plan to get the same for DD2.
I think I got a little register-happy and, after speaking with some people, I may need to tone it down on the registry hahaha oops! How shocking that people wouldn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on my baby (sarcasm)!
I have my stroller, car seat, mamaroo, and crib so far tho. So it's a good start! I'll try to tone down the rest.
@AnnaS930 thank you for saying that! It's so hard thinking she's hurting other kids, and may be the "bad kid" at daycare. Plus, I'm sure the other parents think, "why can't she discipline her kid?" because that's the parent reaction when someone hurts your kid. It was really bad about a month ago at 18 months but she's gotten a lot better. I felt so defeated then, I had no idea what to do. They called me one day and said she had bitten 4 kids in an hour. It's frustrating too because I feel like if they would step in sooner it wouldn't come to that, but I can't be sure because I'm not there. And then more guilt and defeated feelings set in. Im buying Teeth Aren't For Biting today! Thank you!!
@MrsVoorhees - my son is 1 1/2 and there are 2-3 kids in his daycare going through a biting phase. My son hasn't been a biter (at least not yet), but has been the victim many times. I just want to assure you that neither my husband nor I have ever thought anything negative about the kids doing the biting or their parents. We know how hard it is to discipline a toddler to get them to break this habit and are very patient.
@MojieJo I'd put money down that almost everyone else getting her shower invite feels the same about it as you do. I think that, if anything, people will prioritize yours since it's your first and you're having twins! I'd just be nice enough to get along with her, but know inside that she's the opening act for your headline shower
This might belong somewhere else, but nowhere seemed appropriate and it doesn't really warrant it's own thread. So, I'm back!
my mom spent her entire workday mocking up shower invitations instead of working. Maybe I love puns too much, but this headline cracked me up:sorry if it's huge, I'm on the app!
Today is the 17th straight day of rain for the DC metro area and there should be a break in the rain on Sunday. The Washingtonian made a super funny article.
My random and then my replies: Alright you guys, I know I said I would likely bite and hiss at strangers who try to put their hands on my belly... but this morning I ate my words! I was opening the gates at work and this small Hispanic woman was walking by, and she started to smile and speak to me. I speak enough Spanish to understand- she was saying I look beautiful and God bless me and my baby- so I said thank you and told her it was a boy and how far along (in Spanish) and she came over, put her hands on my stomach, and said a blessing in Spanish before she smiled again and told me how beautiful, and went on her way. I was almost in tears, it was such a beautiful moment! It really made my whole morning!! I think because of her approach I felt comfortable. If it were a random person just walking up to grab me, I'd have a problem, but she was just so sweet! Changed my mood for the day for the better!
@UnwritteN12 you and me both (smacking my boss)! What is even better is I have been running the place alone the last few days while we had a group of 45 people in house, and my boss promised to come in to relieve me. She came in 10 minutes before they were scheduled to leave Wednesday, for about 20 minutes yesterday afternoon and was busy with her art handlers, and today she came in but wouldn't stay at the reception area so I had to stay (we were open to the public, someone's gotta check people in!). Like you said, 4 more months... 4 more months... lol!
@kosmo86 Same! I was up a couple of pounds today, so now instead of getting the nice heaping platter of mac & cheese I wanted (with fried chicken), I went with salmon and veggies with a small side of fries lol! @marikkita12 jeez! I'm sorry you have to put up with that ignorance! I hope he gets it together!!
@Thetamedshrew I also love food far, far too much and would like to just eat all day every day lol
Congrats @AmMcc12 ... not sure if you posted in here but I saw in the baby sex thread that you're team blue. Woop woop, hope all results looked good!!!
@AmMcc12 Yes, I think there was a general consensus of it being wanted. I'll start it sometime next week. I don't think anyone has had theirs yet, right?!
@Sbrown721 oh poop! Babies R Us just had a 2-3 day sale on mattresses...25% off. I ordered a Naturepedic. Fingers crossed sale pops up again!
Yes on keeping monthly randoms!
Speaking of baby showers, do you all know what you'll be wearing to yours?? I have no clue what to wear! @mom2adoodle Maybe a question to add to that? Mine will be near the end of June, so nope, not yet.
Hey, I'm seeing the "should we start a baby shower thread" talk (I'm in favor) and a comment or two about starting threads based on what we see in randoms.
I can't find the root of that conversation within the thread, but I know that I started a thread based on seeing rude comments. Was that not cool? Is the vibe here to ask the group before starting a thread? I want to stay true to the culture of the board, but sometimes I miss social cues, so I kind of have to come right out and ask.
No no @KimmySchmidt not at all. The questions are actually because some are thinking there isn't enough action beyond the Randoms thread and some posts here are worthy of their own thread. No need to ask for permission, the rude comments was a perfect separate thread idea!
Husband is in Vegas this weekend for his future brother in law's bachelor party. He worked all day yesterday and then drove out there after work (about 6 hours from San Diego). I slept like crap because I was waiting for his text to let me know he made it. he finally got there around midnight. He will be gone until Monday but I'm missing him lots already. I know this sound whiny as many of you have husbands/SO tha travel regularly for work but this is the first time he's been gone since BFP.
@marikkita12 it's not whiny. I never sleep until I get a text knowing that mine landed okay. Honestly, it never gets easier and I miss him the moment he leaves!
Mine is the opposite- DH actually has a home game this weekend and has off Sunday and Monday which is totally rare. He also got up with the girls this morning while I just laid in bed and snuggled my puggles for a few extra minutes. It was divine.
I have a babysitter for tonight so I can go to his game since it's a late one tonight. Speaking of babysitters....how did everyone find theirs? Do your kids cry when you leave? I have been lucky enough to find a babysitter that my girls ADORE which makes it easier for us to leave the house.
Just got home from my first baby wearing meet up group. I saw more boob than I was planning on today but the group was great and I got to try some slings with fake baby!
@mom2adoodle I really like the ring sling! So simple and comfortable. They had a baby dummy that I got to practice with. I went to a local group in my area, I am not sure if they are BWI or not..
Ring slings are awesome, @AmMcc12 ! I just bought one for my baby girl. I can't wait for it to get here and try to convince my toddler to go up in it. That's an awesome thing about ring slings--my 32lb 36+" toddler still goes up in ours for runs into the grocery store, or, earlier this week, to be soothed to sleep when he was in pain from an ear infection. I'm a huge RS fan.
If you decide to purchase one, I definitely recommend checking out Babywearing on a Budget and/or The Babywearing Swap on FB. You can buy used which, in the case of woven wraps and ring slings, is better than new because the fabric is broken in and easier to work with.
I'm so obsessed with baby-wearing. I have been for a long, long time (well before I got pregnant or even considered actually trying).
I've got seven or so woven wraps of various lengths (they're my current obsession; I just bought my first handwoven, second-hand, and I'm waiting for it to arrive from Canada), a couple ring slings (including a Maya Wrap I've had for well over 15 years that's buried in my closet somewhere and may never be found) and a hybrid soft carrier (an Emeibaby full conversion made from a Girasol wrap).
We're hoping to get toddler-sized Lillebaby carriers, too, just for ease of use once the twins are heavier and older. I know I can put them up in a woven wrap, but I like the idea of something I can easily get them into and out of once they're not tiny anymore, even if it means only one can be worn at a time.
I can't wait to wear my babies, although it's going to be harder with twins. Back carries in wovens scare the crap out of me. Luckily, DH has agreed to also babywear, so once they get too big for me to carry both at once in a front or hip carry, I can have him carry one of them.
My mom's been trying to tell me that I'm wasting my money and my kids are going to hate it (based on my brother and I apparently hating the old rigid-framed carriers of the 70's and 80's), but I'm more optimistic. I just need to learn to be a better wrapper, but I'm sure that'll come in time.
@MojieJo -- that sounds like an awesome stash you're building! In person help with wrapping makes a huge difference. Hopefully you have a group nearby. I'm always amazed at the twin mamas and the carries they pull off! Sounds like you are going to rock it!
@MojieJo jealous on the emeibaby! What handwoven did you get? I won a RTB for a future release of my choice of an Apple Blossom Woven and I'm pumped! If you don't already, I would definitely recommend following Tandem Babywearing on Facebook.
Ack! I love apple blossoms @mamadomino ! I mean, at least from photos. Way to score! They look amazing!!!!
also. So. Tired. Couldn't fall asleep until midnight. Then up from 2:30-4:30 after LO woke up and needed help settling. Then LO woke at 6:30. I think that puts me at 2 chunks of 2 hours of sleep. Please let a nap be in my future.....

@seitzy3 we've found two great babysitters on care.com that my daughter has loved. She's also way better behaved for them than she is for us.
