Who the eff are all these people commenting on the dilated thread?! Just like looking at random people's babies, I also feel weird reading about random people's cervixes.

There are bound to be some real random drive by's in the next few weeks. I hope we get some good voodoo magic make my baby come early drink car engine oil mud threads to get us fired up.
Spent some more time at labor and delivery today for more blood work and blood pressure monitoring. My anxiety is just crazy lately. All was well and I was able to come home thankfully. I have a follow up with my OB tomorrow and if my bp is high they will induce then. If not I will start the induction on Thursday evening. I am excited/anxious/andallthefeelings. I'm worried about how labor will go if bp wise if I'm induced. Anyone have any experience with inductions with high bp?

I think we were over prepared for those posts. I can't believe we really haven't gotten the "am I in labor?" threads.

So the past few weeks I've been getting cervical exams to check dilation. And OMG do they fucking hurt!!!!!!!!!!
I know I was properly warned (by y'all), but I was not expecting it to be so freaking painful. And, of course, I am now wondering how on earth I am going to survive labor if a doctor sticking her hand up there to check my cervix is excruciating.
Lots and lots of drugs, I expect. But still, holy moly are those dilation checks painful!!

I think I lucked out last week when I had mine bc I didn't think it hurt. I was expecting pain based on what others were saying, but it wasn't bad. I'm sure I'll be eating these words tomorrow after my appointment. That's ok though because I'm eating everything else these days anyway.

Same with me. Just felt a little uncomfortable but certainly didn't hurt. I have another check on Thursday so I reserve the right to change my mind.
You guys, this pelvic joint pain! Instead of walking up the stairs I had to hobble with my hands on the steps for support and DH just had to help me out of bed because I couldn't get out of bed by myself. my midwife says it means baby is moving further down and pelvic pain and pressure is to be expected. And I was more active today (did a big house cleaning and went for a walk) but has anyone found any tricks for relieving the pain?
We have a public holiday today. We also found out today that Monday is also a public holiday. Score!! But I wish we knew, 'cause it could have been a 6 day mini-holiday. But nothing like a free day off hey?!
In CPR class today we were learning about the HHH - which goes, Hazards, Hello, Help.
Well, DH, during his practical did the 'Hazards' bit, then WAVED and said HELLO BABY and then did the 'Help' bit. As if he had to greet the baby... LOL. No, you chop, it's to see if he responds. Haha. My nutty guy.

So I barely feel them. It's so interesting to me that the experience and pain on cervical checks varies so widely.

I love your lingo. What does "chop" mean?
Haha. It's like idiot, but in a loving/joking sense.
@dshannah I feel your pain! Mine hurt so bad every single time last pregnancy and anyone I shared that with was telling me it doesn't hurt. All I could think was how am I going to give birth? Epidurals are amazing! lol. Meanwhile I get my first check Monday and am completely dreading it! That pain I will never forget!
Just realised that my DH will need to change the way he 'games'. I am not sure what the hell is going on in his game, but he just let loose an indecent amount of swear words. I find it hilarious, but it probably won't be so funny when baby's first word is something nasty...
@Charissadeats I tell DH this all of the time! Yelling f*ck and sh*t while playing video games once LO is here is not going to fly.

I was gonna start a fun thread, but am too lazy...is anyone making a labor playlist? Now that Lemonade is on Itunes, I think I will just listen to that on repeat. But I saw this and it made me think; what funny songs would you add?
We made playlists for both deliveries. I find it really helpful for setting the mood and getting me in the right frame of mind. I tend to focus on the music more than the counting during pushing. Both times the L&D nurses commented on the calm atmosphere, it's not zen spa music but the volume is low and we usually keep it on during skin to skin too. The latest one featured a lot of Prince but had a good variety - Bieber made it on, my stand by Lana del Rey, and the Ryan Adams Taylor Swift cover album.
I want to make a playlist too, or at least have music to listen to but is it weird I want my music to include Seether, 21 pilots, and Jack Johnson to name a few?

@vinerie I barely felt mine either. Does anyone have any idea why it varies so much?
I think it's a combination of (1) your innate pain tolerance generally; (2) your cervical sensitivity specifically (i.e., whether you're normally sensitive in that area, and then whether your particular combination of pregnancy hormones has led to increased sensitivity there); and (3) how rough or gentle your doctor is.
My cervical check was no big deal in terms of pain -- at worst I'd characterize it as "mildly uncomfortable," and even that feels like an overstatement -- but holy jeebus did it bleed a bunch. It's two full days later and I'm still bleeding. At this rate I'll probably just bleed from now until delivery if I'm getting these things every week.

I think it also has something to do with how "ready" your cervix is and the size of your doctor's hands, honestly. I usually classify cervix checks on a discomfort scale rather than pain.

I also read somewhere that the higher up your cervix is, the more painful the check will be. I've had some that hurt and some that aren't painful at all, so who knows!
Super excited for this Friday bc we're having a team lunch. Meaning I get lunch for free. Annnnd we're having it at this really good Chinese buffet that I love, but DH never wants to go to bc he's nowhere near as obsessed with Chinese food as me. Surely they thought of the pregnant lady when they made that choice.
read somewhere on another board about this "pineapple mango inducing smoothie" .... Gunna give it a shot today and it sounds delicious . Just google it . I can't do pineapple alone it hurts my mouth .
@dshannah My husbands (female) coworker told him that he needs to take me for ice cream after my cervical checks because they are painful and I would deserve a treat. Looks like I am getting ice cream tomorrow!

@JoMunson I find it helps to support the area by clutching my crotch with both hands whenever I'm walking around. It's really convenient when you're trying to house clean and doesn't look weird at all when you're walking around the office.
Is anyone getting their mother's a mother's day gift? I'm thinking her gift is a grandson. Lol. I just dont have the energy.
@mslan My sister and her boyfriend are taking my parents rafting that weekend so mom says that for her gift I just need to make sure I don't give birth 3 weeks early while they're gone. I'm feeling pretty good about following through on that one.
@MsIan I wanted to do something extra nice for my mom this year but I don't have any good ideas, I'm not crafty and now I'm running out of time. I will at least send her flowers and a sentimental card talking about becoming a mom and how much more special that makes her and our relationship or something to that effect!

I love this! I'll just tell people I'm practicing my Michael Jackson walk
@mslan I'm getting my mother an inside joke gift and a new finch feeder (bcuz that's what she asked for) she keeps telling me baby is her gift but she's helped so much I'm trying to find a really cool feeder that doesn't look like the 100 she already has! I'm getting my soon to be MIL something crafty for her new kitchen, not sure what exactly but SO and I are going to look after our appt tomorrow
Also, I'm getting sharp pain in my lower pelvic region but it's sharp and short and I'm wondering if it has to do with LO moving her head since she's so low now but not actually engaged? It's not like a contraction, it feels more like a shooting nerve pain and only lasts for 30 seconds sometimes less. My first cervical check is tomorrow so hoping I don't have a lot of pain with it! I'm worried now because in the beginning of pregnancy I bled off an on a lot and my Dr attributed it to having an irritable low lying cervix! Bah!!!
Every Mother's Day gift idea I have for my mom includes LOs birthstone. I'm not due until May 7th but I'm holding onto a glimmer of hope that things might happen next week and then she'll be an April baby.

THIS would be cute!!! I'm also hoping I'll have an April baby. I'm going to think about a birthstone thing. I guess my issue is obviously my mother's day gift will be re baby and I have no idea what's going on in this belly of mine. (sigh)
@MsIan after some work procrastination and internet searching, I actually think I will be buying my mother and grandmother shirts for Mother's Day along with a photo package I'll schedule a month later. That way we can get 4 generation photos taken.
