Re: February IUI

After a long, exhausting battle with my insurance company this weekend, my IVF cycle has been declined. Even though I was previously told by a representative that I had no limitations in my fertility benefit (# of IUIs before IVF). So, I'm back on the IUI train. Came off of the birth control and my cycle started again today - 2 in one month is cruel. Looks like IUI #3 will be at the end of the month. Trying not to get too upset about it. Good luck to anyone having their IUI or testing this week!

Well went to dr today got one big follicle on left and another smaller one on right. I go in Wednesday for my iui. This is my final iui before moving go ivf. Staying positive today is my anniversary and I keep telling myself it only takes one egg and one sperm to make it happen. Good luck ladies FX

@MarlyHC - My RE only does 1 IUI 36 hrs post trigger. They always have you trigger at 8pm and do IUI 2 days later in the morning. They don't do the first the next day like they do in your case. Not sure why. I know it wouldn't make sense to do a 2nd one if your 1st IUI is done 36 hrs post trigger as ovulation would be done! I'm going to ask about this though if I have to do another one. I wonder if the research shows it's more effective to do 2...

@NurseTMD85 - I'm so sorry about your insurance issues. It's infuriating how insurance companies are giving us wrong information all the time  Did they clarify how many IUIs you must do before you can move on to IVF?

@ultratomato - One sperm and one egg is right, so hopefully that will be all you need! GL on Wednesday and happy anniversary!!

@Drove2u - Does your RE not prescribe you ganirelix to keep you from ovulating early? Both IUIs for me I've been instructed to take it just in case once my follies measure 14 mm.

Hi Everyone,

Been following this board on and off. Went in for my U/S today and have 2 maturing follies on my right (18mm and 14mm). Lining was a bit thin, so they are putting me on estrogen. Triggering on Wed and THIRD IUI scheduled for Friday.

This will most likely be my last IUI, and I'm terrified. IVF scares the crap out of me. Really praying this one works. Like many of you, I'm tired of the disappointment.

Beta scheduled for 3/4... any beta buddies out there?

Thanks @emgem819! Same to you!

Question for all of you taking progesterone vaginally. Do you use an applicator? The progesterone directions say to take orally, but doctor said to take vaginally. Now I'm having to take estrogen on top of the progesterone for this 3rd one, and I'm thinking it would be so much easier w/ an applicator.

@Stars2016 - I'm so sorry about the BFN :( What are your plans moving forward?

@Lin&say - Yes, ganirelix suppresses the LH hormone so you don't ovulate prematurely. It lasts 24 hours, so you take it each day that it's needed until you're ready to go. For example, I was on follistim CD 3-8 this cycle, but because my follies were growing so quickly, my RE added ganirelix on CD 7 and 8 in addition to follistim to make sure I didn't ovulate but so that my follies would continue to mature. Then I triggered on CD 9. At that point the ganirelix had done it's job and then the trigger shot told my body to ovulate.

@teamginger13 - Welcome! I have lupus too and I see a rheumatologist regularly. I was diagnosed 7 years ago but have been in remission for awhile now. It affected my joints and kidneys. What are your symptoms? I'm so glad you're doing well and your rheumatologist said you can do an IUI! GL!

@wifeinraleigh28 Thanks! I was just "officially" diagnosed in November. The main symptoms were joint pain and rash. I also was diagnosed with dermatomyositis at the same time (from a skin biopsy) which left me with pretty severe muscle weakness in my right arm and hand. Anyway, I am on 400 mg plaquenil which is really helping. The rheum originally wanted us to wait a year but luckily she came around :) Have any of your fertility drugs had any effect on your lupus? I ask because a couple months ago I was on progesterone suppositories and the joint pain flared up like crazy. It might not have been related but it was a strange coincidence.

Welcome back @chicandbubbly I am glad you had a nice relaxing time away! I am sorry about the family pregnancy. I experienced a very similar circumstance last thanksgiving. It was devastating!

i had a follicle check today. Kind of bad news. I had 7 growing follies (too many) and the more developed ones are on my right (blocked) side. I go back tomorrow morning to see if there are any changes. The doctor is hoping the the ones on my left will be able to catch up before ovulation. If so they will aspirate some of the follicles on my right just in case.

I have a feeling this is going to turn into one of those weeks that I go into the RE every day...

Welcome back @chicandbubbly! I'm glad you enjoyed your vacation. Sorry about the pregnancy announcement. I can relate. Ugh.

@teamginger13 - I'm also taking plaquenil, which is completely safe to take during pregnancy so yay for that! I was on 400 mg for awhile but for the last couple years I've only been on 200 mg, which my rheumatologist said I will take for the rest of my life as "maintenance" to prevent flair ups. None of the fertility meds have had any effect on my lupus! And my rheumatologist said that they wouldn't. Believe me I definitely checked with him first! I sure hope you won't have any problems!

I'm sorry about your follicle check @PCOSat25 :( Hoping for better news at the next one.

@wifeinraleigh28 @lin&say @emgem819NO ONE can give me a definitive answer. It was my RE's office that told me due to her experience with my plan I should prepare myself for the denial. The third party reviewers that do the authorizations have "guidelines" but they don't tell you what they are because it's all "individual". But my RE said it's usually 6, and three will have to be OOP. Jerks. I was irate, and I'm pretty sure everyone I spoke to on Friday was terrified. Lol. Thankfully IUIs aren't particularly expensive and IVF will be covered 100% if all 6 fail. Hopefully I won't have to take out a loan.

I was out yesterday so I'm playing catch up. I JUST got the call with my beta count from Friday. It was 96 and progesterone was 28. I'm going in Friday for the second beta. FX that it doubles appropriately.

@wifeinraleigh28 that is so frustrating about the waiting to collect DH's sample. 9M post-wash is still good. We got lucky with 6.8M post-wash. What was the motility? I know that was what you were concerned about before. Sorry if I missed that update. FX for you!!!

@MorganL925 - FX for a high beta on Friday!!! I'm really hopeful for you :) The way my RE does sperm washing means they eliminate all sperm that aren't motile, so 9M is the healthy, motile sperm. I recently got the full SA that was done the day of our IUI, and the total count was 51M (which floors me) but only 29% motility. Total motile sperm was 15M but post wash was only 9M. I'm trying to wrap my head around that, and why it would go down so much. My best guess is that it has to do with morphology, and only the ones with normal morphology made the cut. I'm having a hard time understanding the websites I've been reading on our sperm wash method but I THINK that must be it. Hoping for the best!!

I posted my question about sperm washing in this thread, along with our entire SA results if anyone is interested or has any insights: https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/comment/88485011

@wifeinraleigh28 sperm washing is so confusing to me!! Have you asked your RE about it? I do think your counts seem good though! Hope the TWW goes by quickly for you, I am so hoping this is your month!!
@nurseTMD85 I am sorry about your insurance issues... it is extremely frustrating for me that insurance is so terrible when it comes to fertility. We are 100% OUT OF POCKET. If we have to do IVF in the future (hoping not..) the only thing they will cover for the entire thing is birth control pills. Pretty ridiculous that they will fund anything they can for prevention and nothing for those of us that will do anything for a baby. :(

IUI #2 today. Post wash count was 171 million and 99% motility. Yay! It's been a long day. Four hours drive time, two hours waiting on the swimmers. Hopefully I can get a nap in before work lol.

Hello, CD 10 here and follicle check for growth this thrusday 2/18..on same meds clomid 100mg days 3-7 but this time tons of CM this usually doesn't happen to me until LH surge and this would be too early. Last cycle I was much drier almost no noticable CM while on clomid so very different from one cycle to the next. I havent had any side effects to clomid this round other than occassional moodiness and mild night sweats. If all looks good will be triggering this weekend and IuI next week. Goodluck everyone!

@PCOSat25 I'm so sorry your IUI was cancelled! Fx that IVF brings you better results!

@arbasham Those are great numbers! Try to relax during the TWW!

@chicandbubbly Insurance is the worst, but it sounds like I have nothing to complain about. That is so terrible that you have to pay OOP for everything! Fx this round works so you don't have to go broke!

@drove2u I'm thinking that the 6th time is the charm

Had Iui #6 on sat. 1 13 wk m/c, 1 chemical. Great numbers for frozen 70 mil 60 %motility. Cd 13 scan was weird on femara though. One 15 mm follicle and one 27 . Asked about the 27 if it was too big and they said no. There was no sign of a cyst on day 4. Did anyone have a follicle that large and it not be a cyst?
• Options
@chicandbubbly did they say that your 26 was too large? I had a 27 and they said no, but I guess I'm over googling and many people not experts though say over 25 is over ripe.

@abrasham I have had terrible headaches. I just switched to femara and that could be it!

Thanks everyone...it's just so frustrating not knowing why it didn't work when everything looked so great. I am so thankful for this board!

@wifeinraleigh28- I have an appointment with my RE on Thursday to do the ultrasound and bloodwork to start preparing for a 2nd IUI... I will be taking Clomid again but not sure if he will up the dose or not

@PCOSat25- I am so sorry about your IUI! I wish you lots of luck with IVF!

@kwolf002 Femara gives me those all day long throbbing headaches that won't go away even with Tylenol. It's like a hangover headache without all of the fun lol.

Something fun that my SO just told me might make you all giggle. My SO has to collect his specimen at the lab. The lady that works there looks like Mrs. Doubtfire. She escorted my SO back to the "collection room" with the "pre-loaded disc" and chaise lounge. She gave him the usual instructions about how to collect and looked at him over her glasses and said "do you want Abbie to come back and help you out?" He laughed and said "that's ok, I've handled the hose before." And she blushed 50 shades of red lol. I asked him what he would have done if she had said "or I can help you" and he spat out his drink.

**Question**

Wondering if any of you happen to know if there's a problem with going to the chiropractor during a TWW? I have my regular appointment this Friday, which will be 6dpiui. I can't imagine there's a problem with it, and I usually feel better after my adjustments. But I just wanted to ask in case anyone knows anything about this!
