There is only so much you can do to get a sleepy infant to wake and wakeful infant to sleep. He's too little to really develop habits IMO. I was up with LO last night from 3:30-5, and I know she'll sleep 7-9 this morning while I get dd1 dressed & off to school. It's brutal.

Lame! I know they're too young to develop habits now, I'm just worried that if this continues down the line then I'll be TURNING it into habit if it goes on for months.
Also...totally called this! Not on the couch for 30 seconds and he's out.
there really isn't a whole lot you can do if they are "up" for the day. We still have mornings (this morning was one of them) where DS gets up before 6am.
When I was EBF, LO had a good latch and we were doing well. I am now FF and BF due to supply issues. She is having difficulties getting a good latch now. It takes a lot of attempts for her to get a decent latch, but it still isn't deep enough. I read on kellymom.com on how to bottle feed a breastfed baby and tried to follow it when giving her the bottle. It still hadn't improved her latch.
Does anyone have experience with this and how did you work it out?
@dani+california we have that problem too sometimes. I put dd in her swing in the living room and that usually helps her pass out. Then I can sleep on the couch!
What's your definition of a poop diaper? DD has been having one huge one every few days but all of a sudden now they are smaller an more frequent. Maybe baseball sized compared to golf ball. DH thinks she's just sharting. I'm thinking what we saw before was the high end of poop.

I read that anything bigger than a quarter qualifies as a poop diaper. DD has lots of sharts too but those tend to be more skid mark like while the small poops are more concentrated in one spot. I never thought there would be a day that I was talking about poop online!

I never thought I would look at/worry about poop so much. I'm constantly inspecting LOs poop for inconsistencies.
arching, gasping, and arm flailing randomly while sleeping, then back to sleep like nothing happened... normal or not?
Like she's being startled? Ellie does this all the time and I think it's adorable. Totally normal! If she hears a loud noise she'll gasp and throw her hands up. I can actually remember her hands making that movement in my uterus!
Olive does this lots too, usually for no apparent reason. It's adorable
My LO's left earlobe is dry and crusty/flaky. She does have baby acne but this seems different. Does anyone have any experience with something similar and might know what it could be?
So my vag smells...strange. It isn't 'foul' bur it has a definite odor. My discharge has lightened significantly in the last couple of days. Should I call my OB about it?
I'd call just to be safe. Have you been having sex? You'd want to let your OB know incase of infection

dD had this too. I assumed it was dried milk.
It doesn't really go away when I wipe it with a wash cloth. It ends up coming back
So how am I supposed to get anything done. LO is too small for the carriers that we have, and I really don't want to go buy something different to use for just a few weeks until she is big enough for the ones that we have. Any advice? I am tempted to just use my moby even though LO is smaller than the recommended weight.
@mamrotu I looked at those and they also recommend 8lbs. At home its not too much of a problem (she sleeps great in the RNP and I just move it around the house too) but I as hoping to go to church this weekend, and we have a wedding next weekend and I wanted to wear DD and not have to hold her or leave her in her car seat. I never expected to have this problem, my baby is too small - and she was overdue! Lol!
I've used ring slings and the moby from day one with all 3 kids. The first 2 were under 7 lbs when I started. Just make sure baby is properly supported and their airway is clear, they should be high on your chest so that you can kiss the top of their head.

@MrsStanton87 maybe its a mix of discharge and sweat?
could be, because it definitely takes a few hours for it to smell that way. Plus it's been hot lately...
I don't have any itching but would I, if I have an internal infection?
Not sure about itching. My midwife told me that an infection in the uterus usually causes pretty bad lower abdominal pain. I would think there would be at least some discomfort if you had an infection, but that's just personal opinion.

My LO had some behind her ears and even on her chest. Her pedi wasn't concerned and said newborn skin can be really fickle and it'll sort itself out eventually.
I need some tips for quickly soothing a baby when you are in church. I have yet to brave church with the baby, but tomorrow we are going to a wedding and I'm very nervous about the ceremony. It is a child friendly wedding, but I don't know how many other kids are going to be there really. I'm one of the first of my friend group to have a kid. My baby isn't colicky or anything, but he can be fussy. He will often sleep in his car seat but sometimes he doesn't and I kind of want to have a bag of tricks up my sleeve in case I feel like he is going to need something extra for soothing. It is an outdoor ceremony so there is probably not really going to be a place for me to go if I need to get away, though I definitely will walk away if it comes to that. Any tricks?

Yes he does take a pacifier about 60-70% of the time, and I will bring my carrier (though he doesn't always do well in that but will probably be better in that than if not being held.) I also plan to have a bottle of pumped milk so I can distract him with food if need be. Sometimes if I rock the car seat he will sleep in that longer so I plan to try that too.
I might just have to have DH do what yours did @celticlullaby if it comes to that. I'm probably way more nervous about this than I need to be.

DD has a rash on her face that I thought was baby acne, but now I am starting to get it on my chest. I have a Dr's appointment on Monday but was wondering if baby acne could spread to me? (Now that I type this out it really sounds stupid, but whatever!)
Baby snores: cute and normal? Or cute and concerning? He only snores if he is curled up on my chest, does not appear congested, his mouth and nose are free, and his chin is off his chest. It only just now occurred to me, in a flash of FTM paranoia, that it might not be normal.
ETA: he is 4.5w
Mine snores too if it makes you feel better. No idea if it's normal or not, but I know they have small nasal passages so I'm not surprised it happens!

So I know you are not supposed to jog with a baby in the BOB until they are 6 months or holding up their head well, but what about if you have the car seat adapter and have them in their car seat in the stroller? I wasn't planning on getting to jog with the baby this summer but I was just thinking this morning that maybe it would be ok with the car seat adapter. If you think about it, riding in the car (or my car at least--I have a basic rav4) is a much bumpier ride than my >13 minute miles my postpartum walk/jogs would be. I only ever run on smooth pavement and not downhill. Thoughts? Maybe just kind of use common sense and if I see him jiggling I need to stop?
Eta: this kidsdr.com website says it's okay that way but I have never heard of that site so I don't know how trustworthy it is.

@hordol, Most jogging strollers say not to jog with the car seat attachment because the stroller is too top-heavy and more likely to tip. Once I get back to jogging, I'm planning to hand LO off to DH and just go on a quick jog.

Can you develop PUPPP postpartum? I have noticed a bunch of bumps on my bottom and outer thighs and they are SO itchy! When I press on the skin it looks like white stretch marks but they look like bumps otherwise. My stomach is incredibly itchy as well but I have stretch marks so it could be that? They aren't getting better and I feel like I'm getting more and more as the days go on.

Yes you can develop it postpardum and it's horrible! I have been suffering from it. It started at my stretchmarks on my belly and have now spread all over my arms, legs and breasts. There is no cure, the dr told me to use hydrocortisone cream but it hasn't done much to help. Right now I'm taking dandelion root but so far I can't tell if it's helping our not...I really hope that isn't what you have because I wouldn't wish it on anyone!
When y'all BF, do you always feed on both boobs or alternate each feeding? Someone told me today I should be doing both. I tried today and she was starving within an hour every time. I don't think she was getting the hind milk which seems to keep her satisfied for 2-3 hours during the day. Plus she only eats for 10-15 minutes at a time so splitting that up over two boobs seems dumb.
But I don't want to hurt my supply. So I'm not sure what to do. Thoughts?
