Isn't compression bad?  If I wear a sports bra, will I up my risk for clogs and infection?  But how else do you run?  34DDD, running w/o a sports bra is a no-go.
Running? What on earth is that? ;)

I think you're going to be fine with a sports bra unless you wear it 24/7.

Technically, yes. But IMO after 6 weeks your supply is more regulated anyway. You shouldn't be having periods of engorgement anyway. You should be able to run in a sports bra since it's being worn temporarily.

I would wear it only while running- they say to wear them 24x7 when you're trying to end your supply. Also, it takes about 4w for supply/demand to regulate, and you're likely not cleared for exercise before that.

  • Is it safe to do very gentle exercise (the kind that I could do near the end of pregnancy) during the first 6 weeks post-partum? I'm thinking yoga (obviously only certain poses), light upper-body strength training, speed walking maybe? I feel so much stronger and more energetic than when I was pregnant, and I want to start getting my fitness level back up! I had an uncomplicated pregnancy and vaginal delivery with only first degree tearing.

I was told that I could increase activity slowly as I felt ready, and that if my bleeding picked up a lot that I'd over done it and should slow it down again.

  • Is it safe to leave LO in his car seat when we've gone out and we come back home? He passes out so hard that I hate to take him out and wake him up. I wouldn't nap or anything and leave him like that, I just mean if I'm sitting on the couch and can supervise him is it alright?

I don't make a habit of it, but I've done it before.

At that age, it's super normal for BF babies to skip days in between poops. If the uncomfy gas continues to be an issue, you could call the pedi, but as long as the poops he has look normal (not bloody, not black, not hard), I wouldn't worry too much. You can also use a rectal thermometer to try and let some of the gas loose if you feel like he's really in pain.

  • Has anyone else experienced PP tailbone pain? I began to notice discomfort sitting a few days after we got home from the hospital and I blamed it on constantly sitting on my butt and nursing LO since I had a c-section and didn't really see how that would have affected my tailbone. She will be 2 weeks old tomorrow though and it hasn't gone away. I plan to call my doc tomorrow about it, just wondering if anybody else had a similar experience?

Yeah, my tailbone is killing me. Delivered vaginally a week ago. My back is also crazy sore, and I think both are a result of poor breastfeeding posture...trying to be more conscious of it when I'm feeding.
  • With my stitches I feel like I have no choice but to have terrible posture while breastfeeding. I can only lounge back and my tailbone is not happy.

Every day I hope I've turned the corner and every day I am a throbbing sore mess. I'm 9 days pp with two second degree tears, one peri-urethral and a large perineal one. When can I expect to feel more like a person?

I don't know exactly what the damage was with DD1, but there's a fair amount of scarring and she was just a few oz shy of 10lbs. I continued to feel kicked in the vag if I was on my feet for more than half an hour or so for maybe three months. And long walks left me with the same feeling for much longer.

I found it much more comfortable to sit on a throw pillow on the couch than anywhere else, and even considered wearing bike shorts (they have padding in the crotch). I was able to sit (and shift around) for a 5hr car trip at 3w- hopefully that can give you a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you, that helps a lot! I can do three weeks if I at least know there are chairs in my future.

Baby was 9.5lbs and compound presentation so she really did a number on me. I was hoping to start going on little walks soon but they may have to wait: even the two minute trip to the grocery store leaves me feeling super super swollen right now.

Just had our first poop-splosion. How long can his clothes sit before the poop stains? I don't want to start laundry at 1 am.
If after washing there are still poo stains, lay the wet clothes out in the sun to dry and it should take care of the stains.

I had 2 internal tears and an episiotomy. I started feeling alot better around the 2 week mark. LO will be 3 weeks on Thursday and if it wasn't for a hemi I could sit normal now. Have you tried hot water? I had DH get me a sitz bath and it was amazing.

Hot water actually seems to be making the swelling worse, I always feel beat up after I take a shower (and I've toned it down to warm only), that's the only reason I've been reluctant to try sitz baths. I might give it a shot anyway, it's not like I can feel much worse at this point. :)

  • I'm in the tailbone pain club. It was excruciating for two weeks or so. Ibuprofen took the edge off, but changing positions or sitting upright was still horrific. I guess it's possible to bruise or even break your tailbone during labor. It hurt bad enough that my stitches have been a walk in the park by comparison.
  • Has anyone else experienced discharge suddenly disappearing late in the game or am I a super special snowflake? Not that I'm complaining, it's just contradictory to everything I've ever been told or read about how it is supposed to increase.

OK, so if I'm trying to switch LO to FF from EBF... everything Ive read has said to swap one breastfeeding session for a bottle every few days until we're switched over to avoid engorgement. But the problem I'm running into is we feed on demand and there is rarely a discernable pattern as so how often shes going to eat. For example, yesterday she ate every three hours like clockwork... today she's eatting every hour on the hour. How the hell am I supposed to do this?!

Total shot in the dark as I have no experience with this, but can you decide time frames in which you won't BF and will offer a bottle instead (no matter how often she wants to eat)? And then increase the time periods?

I left it all in the car bc I was contracting but no water broke or anything. They were gonna send me home but I refused cuz I was in a lot of pain. My water broke an hour later and they admitted me so I had DH go and grab everything then :)

She spits up at night so I assume some got collected there. Other than washing and trying to keep the area dry is there anything else I should do? Does this warrant a call to her pedi?

I left it all in the car because I wasn't sure if I would be admitted right away or not since my water wasn't broken and my contractions were being weird. DH went out and got the stuff a few hours later once I was feeling more comfortable in my room. If there's something you feel you would need ASAP I would suggest putting it in your purse or something, but I found I was just fine to wait for most of my stuff.

Normal, just watch for signs of infection and continue keeping it clean and dry. My LO's dropped off pretty fast once it was at that stage, and 2 days later the raw-looking belly button is looking cute and normal and is no longer leaving little blood spots on her onesies

No call needed. Just keep doing what your doing and it will clear up. I would sometimes put aquafor on it if it got really bad with DD.

When I had DS the nurse told me when I was being discharged to use a soft baby brush to wash his hair every time he gets a bath. He never had any problems.

My DS only sleeps on average 1-2 hours at a time at night. He did treat us to a 3 hour stretch a couple nights ago, and it was heavenly. During the day, he will sleep for 3 hours at a time once or twice. We have been keeping days bright and loud and nights dark and quieter to see if that helps. My question is, would it help to get DS to sleep 3 hour stretches at night if I wake him up to eat at least every 2 hours during the day instead of letting him sleep 3 hours? Or is this simply one of the newborn characteristics we will just have to power through? I'm not talking about sleep training or sleeping through the night--I'm perfectly content with 3 hour stretches. I just want to get to three hours....but I also know that he is only one week old and there are certain things I'm just going to have to let sort themselves out. That's fine too, I'm just wondering if making sure he eats every 2 hours during the day will help him go longer at night.

It's tempting and in theory sounds great, but a few days ago, i stopped waking her, she still wakes 2.5-4 hours at night, but she isn't overly tired from me waking her all damn day and forcing her to eat. Those days she did horrible at night!!! I'm trying to follow her cues now and it's much better.

I think you just have to power through. Sleep is more of a function of brain maturity at this stage. There's also the old adage of "sleep begets sleep." A well-rested, calm baby is going to sleep easier than one who has had its sleep disrupted all day. I know it's tough, but hang in there! My girl is 4 weeks old (but was born a month early) and eats every 2 hours around the clock. It's freaking exhausting, but that's life with a newborn, I guess.

  • My DS ate every 2 hours around the clock until about 5 months, when he started skipping the 11pm feeding. So I was still up at 1/3/5/7.
It's very normal and common for BF babies to wake up 1-2 times a night until even a year old.

Ugh. That seems like a lifetime from now...
