@AcaAwkward‌ I actually had my BP tested earlier that day during a NST and it was excellent.
I ended up calling my after hours dr line and they suggested the same as you, Tylenol - which did the trick! I'm a little embarrassed by my post, thank god I had the presence of mind to put it in the Stupid Questions thread, where it belonged.

Yay Tylenol! I'm glad you're feeling better!

  • TheBump seems to think I have a week-old baby, but I'm still pregnant (just overdue). My homepage is showing me all this newborn stuff and counting down incorrectly to my baby's first birthday. I seem to be too stupid to figure out how to tell it I'm still pregnant. Is there a way?

Mine keeps telling me my baby is the size of a winter melon or some nonsense. She's two weeks old already. Thanks for reminding me my baby should still be cooking, The Bump!
  • I think if you go under "my account" you can change info and birthdate
  • I think if you go under "my account" you can change info and birthdate
Yeah, you can enter a new date. I have no idea what her birthdate will be though. Guess I'll just let it keep treating me like a new mom for the time being and adjust her birthdate once she's actually born.
  • My husband is telling everyone and their mother that they can come visit at the hospital because he doesn't want people at the house. I keep telling him to say they can come a week after or something like that as a compromise. And I'm not talking about our parents. Just the friends. I hate visiting people at the hospital because I don't want them to feel embarrassed by something or that they have to entertain.

In his defense, this is our first and he has no idea that the baby doesn't come out and all is normal. He's also never had a major surgery or something where he needed to be in the hospotal overnight. I keep trying to tell him that its a short time for me to recover, learn to bf, us to have help learning about our newborn, etc.... I don't want 50 people in and out as they please. I haven't gotten to the gross stuff yet so I'm guessing I need to open that can of worms, even though he is incredibly squeamish. He also thinks we will be upset if people don't come visit. Not me!!' I couldn't care less!!

What should I tell him? What have your post delivery experiences been like? I could always wait until delivery and make him tell them all to wait once he sees everything that's about to happen. Thanks.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. The time with the LC is previous to me and I don't want to have to turn them away if there are a ton of visitors. I also don't want to have to worry about being exposed or going to the bathroom. I don't know. I'm very private and so is my husband. Its really weird he's pushing for this.

The code word is a great idea. I'm going to keep that in mind. Thanks for your input.

Yes! All of this! I know he has no clue about any of it. And you've just put in to words what I haven't really been able to because I have an idea but don't really know. Thanks for sharing all of that.

  • XP from the RTT:

I need help! Opinions and advice please. Today at church I was given a swing, and I also received a bouncer at one of my showers. I REALLY would like to get a rocking chair or glider. That's the only thing I'm really lacking that I feel is a necessity. My question is: do I really need a swing and a bouncer? For those that are S+TMs, which one would you recommend? I'd like to take one back to go towards the purchase of a rocking chair/glider, but I'm open to keeping both if either of them could be a "lifesaver" when in need of a moment of peace or free hands.

I'm kind of leaning towards taking the bouncer back since the ratings aren't as good and there are less features, but I just wanted to get opinions first. Thank you! :)

  • IMO the swing and bouncer serve different purposes. We've always had both. Well, this time we have the mamaroo instead of the traditional swing, but the bouncer I generally use a little later when they're a little more alert. It's more for stimulation/play vs. the swing which is more for soothing, I think.

  • I love the bouncer for it's mobility- it sits beside us at dinner, comes to the bathroom for me to shower, etc. the swing is larger & stationary. We used the bouncer much more with DD1, and DD2 is only 2w, but we haven't used the swing yet.

I've only had them once before, but last time the part under my skin dissolved and the exposed part fell off. Thinking this is totally normal and it's what I'm expecting from my couple stitches.
  • Obviously things can go down crazy fast and there are tons of variables but...would those of you who have gone through labor already been able to drive yourself roughly 45 min with contractions? DH and I got into it last night about when I start maternity leave because he is freaking out about labor starting while I'm at work. I promised him that if I were to start having a day where I just don't feel right or even have 1 real contraction I would head home right away (even though I know that could still mean no labor for days) but he still wants me to go on leave asap instead of 2 days before my due date like I had planned. I don't think the odds of going into labor at work are very good but it has made me wonder if I'll be able to make the drive if it does.

  • A couple questions:

Do you need to bring diapers to the hospital? I know that they will have diapers for them while we're there, but I'm wondering about bringing a couple just in case (I guess for the drive home?). We're a 20 minute drive, so I'm not foreseeing stopping or anything. It was on my packing list, but now I'm second guessing.

Do you have toys for your baby? Realized that that isn't something we ever really got from showers or anything, and am now wondering if there are things we should have gotten.

So glad we have this thread :)

I didn't pack any diapers -- we left in the ones from the hospital and took half a pack with us.

Babies really don't need toys as newborns. If you have a Playmat that makes noise & has things hanging, that's a great first "toy" -- they can use it for tummy time and then flip over and look at the things above them. The black & white high contrast books / cards are great for them to stare at and ponder, too. Once they are grasping things, toys like O balls and colorful links are great. We also love the Lamaze brand toys the clip on to car seats & strollers.

  • @dani+california‌ Do whatever feels comfortable! Most of the time, I lay a blanket out and set the baby down. When they are tiny and not rolling, you can also lay them in the middle of a bed. Laying on an incline is fine so long as they aren't hunched over -- I don't like leaving babies in the car seat longer than necessary for this reason, but usually a bouncy seat or a RNP is a lot less severe of an incline.

  • @ASasquatch‌ I would have been fine to drive the day I labored with DD1. I woke up at 7 with what I thought might have been contractions, but wasn't sure till about 6pm that it was decidedly labor. I would have been able to drive and not worry until about 9pm that evening, so 14 hours from when my first, "could his be labor" thought.

  • @CalinAZ‌ I am bringing 1 diaper because my hospital cloth diapers so we need one to bring the baby home in. I think it it's more common that they use disposables and will give you the left overs but it might not hurt to ask or just bring one so you don't have to worry.

We do have some toys like the little things that clip onto the car seat and rattle type things. I've also slowly been buying older kid toys and tons of books for when she is ready. I've actually gotten most of them from consignment sales and garage sales for super cheap. I just buy things that are in new condition and easy to sanitize.

  • @dani+california‌ you can put the baby in the car seat, hold her, etc. whatever feels natural. Side note: I think it's funny you call baby "it". Lol. I still call my daughter "baby" when talking about her.
Team Green! Just a habit now...haha. It will be an 'it' until we know what it is! :P

With my DD (still have an inside baby this time around!), I wouldn't have been able to do a 45 minute drive with contractions.  We left for the hospital (which was a 15 minute drive from our house) pretty soon after I started feeling contractions (not yet 5-1-1, but we decided to head to the hospital anyways).  1/2 way through our drive, the contractions picked up and were intense and painful.  When we got to the hospital, I was 4 cm.  I had a quick delivery (7 hours from first contraction to delivery) and it was 4 days before my EDD.  I know my experience may not be representative of most FTM, but that's how it was for me!

If your contractions start out strong and you're at work, maybe a co-worker can drive you to the hospital?
Someone would drive me no problem (this is going to make me sound like a crazy person for even being concerned about it) but I would refuse to leave my car there. I work in an area which is ok during the day but overnight is not so nice plus I have to pay for parking in a garage that requires you be out by 11 partly because they don't want the hassle of what goes on at night.
I'm of the opinion that everything will be fine and I won't even need to worry about it but I think DH is getting more nervous about this whole labor thing than I am.

  • I know this is probably completely arbitrary, so it's pointless to ask, but quick question for any moms who had their membranes stripped: did it actually get labor kickstarted or just tease you with more contractions?

I'm 40 weeks, 2 days today and I've been having contractions since last week but only minor progress from my check then to now (still 3cm, went from 75% effaced to 80% effaced) - so I went with my midwife's suggestion of having my membranes stripped to "shake things up," and hopefully initiate labor.  I'd really like to avoid having an induction, and my doctor was making me flustered with the choices he was giving me (the reason why I go with the midwife as much as possible, even though she's now unable to deliver me since she fractured her wrists).  So I said okay to the membrane stripping - um, ouch, btw - and I've definitely been having even more contractions since then.  Just wondering if anyone has any experience with it actually working or just making you crampy and miserable.

    Thanks in advance, ladies!

  • I know they may be placebo, and in that case it doesn't really matter when, however when would one start eating lactation cookies? Before or after your milk comes in? Also fenugreek, do you take that after birth, is it unsafe to take before?
  • @knotty-girl‌ - My mom and MIL advised me to take anything fenugreek related after the delivery.
  • Carseat question;

I have a two door hyundai accent.

I tried a couple small rear facing convertible carseats today. They only appear to fit in the middle seat.

One hangs off the edge an inch.

The other is completely on the seat but not flush with the seat. The store guy said to just stuff a towel under it.

Which is safer? I was thinking the first...

Anyone else have a Hyundai accent and find a good fitting carseat?

    Any advice is appreciated.
  • For women with ob or StMs: did you have issues with breastfeeding if you weren't leaking before delivery? I've had little drops of colostrum come out if I press but otherwise nothing - I'm just worried it's a harbinger on my milk not coming in. Also did your baby "drop" ? If not were you still able to have a natural delivery? My midwife and doula say that baby is good wjere she is but I haven't had any checks yet (39.2) and getting super Ansy that my little one isn't very low. I think I'm just starting to freak out bc I was hoping to be done with work and holding a baby by now and instead I'm still at work waddling with a watermelon while people tell me I may go to 42 and I want to kill them.
  • Can newborns fall asleep on their own? My LO is 2 weeks and she's been falling asleep in my arms and the I'll put her down in her basinette. Is this ok?

I started eating them after my milk came in, but I doubt it matters.  My fenugreek says "do not take while pregnant" so I wouldn't take it until after delivery.

I can't see tickers so I don't know how old your baby is. However, newborns tend to slow down the poopy diapers after a few days. There seems to be more variation with breastfed babies - some poop all the time while others go to once a day. My DS went to about 2 poopy diapers a day pretty quickly. As long as the wet diapers are still good and there are not other symptoms of digestion trouble, it's probably a normal thing. Check your baby book for a rough timeline on number of poopy diapers.

My LO is getting circumcised today at 1 month old. I'm terrified he will be miserable and that I will hurt him. How long until it heals? How do I care for it?

Nurse or give a bottle after he's had it done. We used Vaseline and put it on in globs while DS was healing. He had the plastibell so we just continued to put on the Vaseline until it fell off and he was healed. It was actually quite easy to care for.

I'm due for induction tomr, and anxious to know what time I need to be there.. The anticipation is killlling me.
