So here is a stupid question. The last time I was at the dentist the hygienist was all excited because the next time I go in I will have a baby with me. Do people bring their babies with them to the dentist? What do you do if they start crying while you are getting your teeth cleaned? I feel like I could bring a baby to most kinds of appointments and still attend to them, but at the dentist you are kind of incapacitated.
I have breast fed at my 6 week PP check up and once at a teeth cleaning.
@spano41 I have a similar question! I have to have an US of my thyroid in May. Do I go alone and leave LO with my mom? Or should my mom go with us? I know nothing about life with a baby!
@bacorrea - it's not advised for babies to be jogged with until about 6 months. Their little heads can't handle the bobbing and bouncing.
Thanks @ColleenSwerb! Crazy how much stuff there is to remember for a newborn! If I hadn't read it on here how would I have known? Is this something a pediatrician would tell me? I feel like this is a random thing that I would have never known if I didn't see something on here!
Am I supposed to be using a special dish washing liquid for LO's bottles and pump pieces? I have just been using orange Dawn but I got worried that it has antibacterial stuff in it.
It's fine. DH used to work at Colgate-Palmolive- the special baby detergents are the regular stuff watered down. Just make sure you rinse well.
Can early contractions make me feel like nausea coming and going as well as painful? I'm getting bouts of feeling like I could throw up right that second then it disappears and comes back.
I don't like the way DS sits in the carseat when it's in the stroller (his head droops A LOT), so I'm shopping for a wrap or other type of baby wearing device. Thanks!
LO seems to be a fan of the Moby. It works from very small to the 30lb range. The Ergo and Boba seem to be well liked around here and are better designed for larger babies into toddlerhood, but I believe require infant inserts for the early months.
I love gowns because the diaper access is fabulous. I put socks on if her feet seem cool, but otherwise just keep a blanket handy. I also only use them at home because it's a PITA with the car seat.

Loving the gowns right now. We just keep her loosely swaddled (with arms out) in a muslin blanket. As pp said, they are great for diaper changes. Plus, she is in preemie sizes right now, but she's a little too long for most preemie sleepers. Gowns are more flexible with baby length.
All socks are huge on her and just fall off so we stopped bothering.

It's probably fine, but I overall avoided antibacterial stuff around DS. The "good" bacteria is actually much easier to kill off than bad bacteria and is really important for protecting against bad bacteria. I switched to a scent free soap (dishsoap which I used for bottles/nipples/pump parts) and haven't switched back.

I keep hearing this chirping in my ear. I already called my ob they said to take some Benadryl (that's their cure for everything). Please tell me there's someone else going through this!
I'm terrified of my LO sleeping alone at night. So much so that I am tearing up typing this. I spend the hour or two that I can get him to sleep in the RnP or PnP waking up every two minutes to check on him and make sure he's alright. I know it's totally irrational but holy crap it freaks me out.

Irrational or not, I think it's normal. I wake up a million times and check that she's breathing. And this is my second LO at home.
...rash all over my chest. Pregnancy related or allergy? Isn't PUPPS only on the belly?
I got on my belly and my thighs. And it's confirmed it's all pupps for me. ( thankfully we are almost done!!!
They start on your stretch marks and can spread. My doctor recommended Benadryl cream and fragrance free moisturizing lotion. So annoying!!! I know it's bad but I scratch until it burns sometimes

Thanks! It helps to know I"m not the only one.
Last night went soooo much better than the first night. Not that I didn't check, but at least I wasn't standing there holding my baby with tears running down my face or anything. Using the RnP for sleep right now instead of the PnP because that's less scary for whatever reason.
When is everyone taking their LOs out in public for the first time? Our pediatrician recommended not taking DD out to a place like Target until she's 4 weeks. I live in New England and the weather next week is supposed to be beautiful and I'd love to start taking her for short walks. Is 2 weeks too soon for that?

We went to the coffee shop today on the way to the pediatrician, and stopped by lowes to pick up a few things on the way home. LO is five days old. I don't think it's a big deal - not like anyone was touching him or up in his business or anything. One person glanced in and said "aw cute," that's it.

I think there's a difference between out for walks and going to a Target- outside is fresh air, target is full of people. I brought DD to the beach at 3 days old. Haven't done a target run yet, but she has come into preschool to drop her big sister off- that's probably as germy as you can get, but life has to continue.
@KendraColeslaw from my research it seems like the major risk would be preterm labor because of the nipple stimulation, and (I'm mobile so I can't see siggys) if I remember right, it might be a little early for you to try to induce? But you can try it and if contractions start you can simply stop the stimulation. I did it around 30 weeks a few times and I never had contractions. I was just uncomfortable from constantly leaking and I got curious so I expressed a few drops.
When you have contractions, do you have an uncomfortable feeling/pain between waves or is it really more like pain/cramp then a break? Does that even make sense??
When does the waddling stop? Right away? After a day or two? Never? I'm so looking forward to moving like a human again.
For me it would have been instantaneous if not for all the stitches. As soon as the baby was out, my SPD disappeared. I know that's not true for everyone with SPD, but hopefully, if you have it, your experience will be the same! (Minus the stitches.)
Awesome! SPD and sciatica was question #2.

DS is 10 days old and we've been... - to the park x3 - frozen yogurt x3 - grocery store - eat-in restaurant - open gym - botanical gardens
Life won't stop with a 2 year old! We keep him in his car seat or wear him and no one has touched him.
ETA: it's really up to your personal comfort level but germs aren't just going to FLING THEMSELVES onto your baby, even in a public place, so long as you take the proper precautions (wear baby, in car seat cornered with a light blanket, etc).
@KendraColeslaw totally okay to start hand expressing once you have hit 38 weeks. The LC I talked to said it would help your supply if you started while pregnant. You can also save and freeze the colostrum in case an issue arises where you can't BF LO the first couple of days.
So I got really sick with the stomach flu on Thursday and ended up in the ER. I'm feeling better now, but everything I'm reading says you are still contagious anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks after feeling better. Is there anything I can do other than proper hand washing and hygiene to protect little one when he gets here? Obviously I will bring it up with the doctors and see what they say, but seeing as how I could go into labor anytime now I am very nervous that I will make little one sick. what would you do?

I'm having a splitting headache right now and know it can be a symptom of pre-e. I was tested last Sunday and came back negative. Is it possible to develop it in a week? I don't know if it's an over reaction to call my doc for this stupid headache or not.
If it is an over-reaction, anyone have a suggestion for how I can get rid of it? I'm drinking a ton of water in case I'm dehydrated. I never have headache so this is abnormal and keeping me from sleeping right now
It is definitely possible -- I developed pre-e super suddenly, practically w/in 48 hours. Do you have other symptoms (high BP, sudden swelling, eye floaters, etc)? It could just be a regular ol' headache, too. Have you tried Tylenol?

If you plan to BF LO will get your antibodies, which will help baby to fight off the germs that you're exposed to. Otherwise I think just what you said.
TheBump seems to think I have a week-old baby, but I'm still pregnant (just overdue). My homepage is showing me all this newborn stuff and counting down incorrectly to my baby's first birthday. I seem to be too stupid to figure out how to tell it I'm still pregnant. Is there a way?

Ah thanks ladies, I kind of thought that's what it might be for!
