Aw: Patrick is breast feeding from the boob! Last time i did this was Easter. I am so happy he remembered what to do. I am going to try to do this once a day.
A neighbor gave me nipple shields she didn't use (in the package) and I am going to try it with Carter. Fx!

Nipple shields saved breast feeding for me! Good luck
I cried mroe than my newborn did today. Soooo decided that I'm dropping a pump tonight in order to have 9pm-3am available for sleeping while DH watches baby. I haven't slept more than 2hrs at a time and 4hrs per day total since the day before my C-section 2.5 weeks ago. I think I've officially hit a wall. And it happened to be the day my husband went back to work. So my plan for this evening is: pump, ice cream in bed, watch an episode of "Drunk History" and pass the eff out until 2 or 3am.
Prayers & fingers crossed that I have this baby tomorrow! Any extras would be appreciated as well! It's my dad's birthday and I would love to deliver his first grandson on his birthday!!
Tomorrow is my birthday too! I'd love if Aiden slept two consecutive four hour stretches tonight. I'd take that for a birthday present...
Happy Birthday!!! That much sleep would be the greatest present ever.
Today has been really rough. I've struggled to wake DD to feed her a few times, and other times she's fighting me the whole time and will only latch for a few seconds before squirming and popping off. I was also having a lot of pain from engorgement, and I'm exhausted. Emotions are high tonight. I'm hoping things get better or I'm going to break down.
Nursing is hard. I was doing well at the hospital feeding colostrum although it was a little hard because I have larger breasts and semi flat nipples. I swear I do the sand which hold and my nipple sucks in
But LO and I were getting the hang of it. If we weren't they would have kept me an extra day.
Well now my milk is in and things are going downhill ( I spend hours trying different positions and trying to get her to latch. It's getting worse every time I try now im scared shes not getting enough food... Pees and poos were down today. And weight is down 6% which they said was acceptable but they don't want the trend to continue
I finally hand pumped and DH fed her 1.5 oz by bottle...
Feeling really discouraged. Going to make an appointment with the lactation consultant from the hospital I delivered at first thing in the morning...

Good luck to you as well. I may need to if this continues! Thankfully there's one at the pediatrician's office. I've also been getting really nauseated, do that's making everything worse. I know I need to eat, but it's hard to force it when I don't feel well. Praying that things get easier.
@nicole mackenzie I know exactly how you feel. I went through this same thing when DS was born. It was absolutely horrible. The good news is, we got past it and went on to nurse for 2 years. If you are feeling engorged, you might try pumping to soften your breasts, which will make latching easier. If you haven't tried reclined nursing with LO, you might give it a shot. You lay down on your back, with LO laying on your stomach and let baby latch. Gravity helps baby get a good deep latch. If your little one is really fussy, full on tears and fighting the latch. Try to give enough of a bottle to take the edge off the hunger and then get LO to latch. If you have a syringe or eye dropper, you can feed using that to avoid nipple confusion (though I'm not convinced that it is necessary).
And, of course, see a lactation consultant when you can.
Most of all, HUGS to you. Breastfeeding is hard! You're doing great doing what you need to do to feed your LO.

Happy birthday @Eireyes! It's my birthday too and I asked for the exact same present from DS. So far he hasn't delivered. But he is cute so I'll forgive him.

This was me exactly... Struggled and talked to LCs in hospital because I'm convinced I'm starving her... Oh everything is great! Go home? Yeah right. No chance, even with the nipple shields. I'm now exclusively pumping and thank sweet baby Jesus for the pump everyday... My sanity couldn't take it. Good luck, I'm sending good vibes your way!
Here's little toots from today... We actually got dressed!
Somebody is keeping mommy awake all nightttttttttt. I let DH take the first shift, then sent him to bed around 1. He has to work tomorrow and I had gotten an hour or so of sleep so I tagged him out. DS is cluster feeding and being super clingy. I knew I'd regret letting him sleep most of yesterday, but I needed the sleep too!! Oh well, more naps tomorrow.... Though at this rate I am pretty sure he will eat until it's time for his antibiotics in an hour. Good news: they make him sleepy.

April 14 August Siggy Challenge- "This time last year.."
DH is on paternity leave but before he left his boss asked if he could come in today for an office surprise. Well that surprise is a day trip to Universal...now I'm sitting here crying about the fact that he gets to go have fun all day while I'm home with three kids and never get time to myself.
Every time I've tried to have a day to do something for me its gotten screwed up and I've had to cancel.
And tomorrow he has plans with his best friend.
I'm just crazy jealous right now.
~Missed MC at 8 weeks. D&C at 12 weeks on 4/17/13~
Aiden partially delivered on the birthday present @LoriMC12 - I got a 4.5 hour block and then a 2 hour block. Hopefully your LO delivers your birthday gift tonight! Aiden is snoozing in his swing now, of course.
Madeleine seems less lethargic since I caved and gave her a bottle. We actually have had two slightly better nurse sessions since then. ( so she doesn't seem nipple confused ) I'm still going to see the LC today. My confidence is shaken. Maybe a nipple shield would help us.
In the end if I have to pump and bottle feed that's ok too. I'm going to keep on trying though as long as it doesn't negatively effect LO.
DD slept from 1 to 5:30 and I had to wake her up! She went back to bed until I woke her up at 9! I feel like we deserved it because she cluster fed the night before. I feel so rested I may actually put in real clothes today!
So I knew I leaked a lot from the opposite boob while feeding...but I had no idea how much!! My milk savers came in yesterday and so far it's been averaging .5-1 oz per feeding that was just being wasted! Thank goodness for milk savers. I'm now dry and adding to our fridge collection.

OMG last night night was amazing! I slept from 9:30pm-2:45am with just a bathroom break. My boobs were leaking like faucets when I woke up, but I then proceeded to have my best pump ever (5oz) and DH was feeding LO while I pumped. They both went to bed shortly thereafter, so I got ANOTHER two hours of sleep in the nursery!
James has been up every two hours to feed which kind of sucks, but due to me getting nearly 7hrs of sleep, I felt much better equipped to handle him and the late night feedings/screaming fits. Apparently, I am NOT a bad mother after all--I just needed sleep. And it may not be related, but all of my subsequent pumps have been a good 0.5-1oz more than normal. Yay!!
My baby hasn't pooped in three days. She seems pretty pissed off about it too. She still has a lot of wet diapers though. Should I be worried? It went from 6 a day to nothing.

I can't see siggys so I'm not sure when you had your LO but once your milk is in and baby's system is regulated its normal for BF babies to have 6 poops a day or once a week. (According to my newborn baby books) I'd mention it to your pediatrician if you are worried though, since its a change.
Not sure what is normal for FF babies though.
April 2014 May Siggy Challenge: Funny Animals- Kangaroo Mating Ritual
Woke up this morning and saw that DH had taken the top plastic bin of DS's hospital bed and put it on the fold out bed next to him. That's right, he initiated safe bed sharing all on his own. the nurses came in to do their check on DS and thought it was so sweet- they hadn't seen anyone else do that before.
