    What's up? >:D<
Would need a novel. I HATE winter even though I grew up in the Laurentien mountains. Was half an hour late for drop in daycare this morning after a battle with a leaky sippy cup, battling with snow suites, ripping my wiper off trying to clean it and still having summer tires on.

my child doesn't sleep. And I have 2 huge essays to write by the end of December.

My husband is an ass. He books off work for hockey, baseball etc. All the time. I have an aqua fit class with the baby tomorrow and he made to snow tire appt for the car and took an overtime shift at work so I can't go to my only activity. He goes to the city once or twice a month to play hockey with his friends and I got a lecture about how useless it was to drive to laval last week to meet the Montreal bump girls. His life has not changed at all since we has the baby. My MIL has spent more alone time with DD then DH has and I am not exaggerating. He has gotten up about 4 times total with her since she has been born, each time lasted about 90 seconds then he gives up and comes back to bed. We have an empty rental property that is starting to look really tempting. One that I would probably already be at if it wasn't for a friend of mine who has a son Finn's age. He was such a nice boy but has completely gone to hell since his parents split up and I don't want that to happen to Finn.

Sorry for the novel. Bad day.

ETA and the only thing Finn has asked for from santa; a double trailer flatbed truck with bags of Styrofoam on the back. Where the fuck am I suppose to find that??!!

They have your LO go under water at this age @Vinny424?

I just made a quick run to pick up the essentials for this storm that we are supposed to have. You know, diapers, water, chocolate, and most importantly beer. Bring it on.

I think at this age and even younger it's instinctual for them to hold their breath, so it's a good learning time for them. Correct me if I'm wrong. :-?

  • @edoliesmom‌ that could be it. They just has us do raspberries in their faces when I took my LO to his lessons.
  • DS1 started swim classes at a Lil less than 6 months and they had us putting him under. He's 2 and half now and still loves going under water.

Question because I'm honestly curious...why do people refer to themselves in the 3rd person when speaking to their child? Like 'what did mommy say about touching that' or 'didn't mommy tell you XYZ' Do kids understand that better than 'what did I say'? It seems unnecessarily confusing. There. An actual random thought for RTT.
I am pages behind so this may be answered by someone... but I believe it helps them learn your name "mama" .  I was really adamantly against third person talk at first and then someone pointed that out to me when I mentioned DS had a lot of first words before mama or papa.
This. It helps them to associate the action with you (and understand the sentence structure) early on when they just know you as "mama" or "mommy" or whatever. Now that my daughter is 2 and a half I find that I'm replacing the "mama"s with "I"s a bit more.

  • Yeah, same for our swim lessons. LO hated them, though, so we're not continuing now that they cost money (they were free for the first 7 months).

@jessimax - sorry life is sucking right now :(. Agree that having a sit down talk with DH sounds in order. Hope things look up soon.

Question - have I inadvertently been a really bad mom? Because LO has torticollis, there's a possibility he could have hip displasia. However, everyone who has ever evaluated him hasn't heard a hip click, which is the big indicator (two pediatricians, two physical therapists, an orthopedic assistant and an orthopedist). The only indicator that there could be an issue is a slight asymmetry in his skin folds, but everyone has said it's very mild and not a huge red flag.

The orthopedist wanted us to get an x-ray between 6-7months old, but we got feedback from the pedi and PT that that seemed odd considering the lack of evidence that something was wrong. I've been so busy with physical therapy and helmet appts. that I never got around to calling the orthopedist to talk through my doubts and just never got the x-ray. We have an appointment tomorrow and I told the receptionist that we didn't feel comfortable with the x-ray based on his evaluations, and that I wanted to go tomorrow to get checked again to get some more reasoning for x-raying.

The receptionist seemed really taken aback and said that the doctor would need to call me to "discuss this." Then I did some research on hip displasia and it seems like if he did have it, it might be too late for just a brace and he'd need surgery and a huge cast! I'm frustrated with the orthopedist, since the told me to wait until after 6 months for any x-rays, and it seems like 6-months was the cut off for non surgical treatment. I'm also afraid I made the total wrong call here, and should have been putting more focus into this.

How freaked out should I be here? Now I'm picturing my poor boy getting surgery and being in a huge cast. :(

  • @Jessimax‌ I'm really sorry about you and your husband. I hope you guys get to have a talk and he's able to see your perspective. You guys need to come to some sort of comprise. Also. Just because your little one's friend had a drastic behavioral change because of a split doesn't mean it'll happen to your lo.
  • Yay @meg.eliz1. Good luck! I hope you see a healthy baby. How far along are you now? I'm on mobile, so I can't see a siggy if you have one.

  • So DH family draws names and we buy "stockings" for whoever we draw and that's the only person we buy for. Stockings can be one big item (like I got SIL a coach purse before) or a bunch of smaller items. Whenever we don't go to his family's christmas, we never get our stocking unless BIL has our name. Well I have SIL this year and I asked her if she had any suggestions and she said all she wants is money. Seriously? My biggest pet peeve is when people ask for money...if you really just want to go buy something yourself than say a gift card to this store would be great too...but give me options! She has me this year and since she recently asked BIL if he'd give her $100 a month since her child support got cut because she lost custody of one of the kids...I'm going to guess I'm not getting anything. I think I'm going to tell her to just keep her money for my present, I'll keep my money for her present and we can spend it on what we want.
  • @Vinny424 glad my DH family isnt the only one tgat does this. Gift buying stresses me out enough, this makes it awful.

What if I give her less money than she gives me? I'd feel so bad...there's no set amount on what to spend, so it could be anything. If it's just cash back and forth, what's the point? Ugh..I think I'm going to tell DH to tell his family to take us out of the stocking rotation next year.
  • @tferr02 your sister in law is crappy.  Love titting your idea :)
  • Also, hugs @Jessimax‌ - I agree with PPs about talking to YH. DH is pretty good at helping, but he can be super oblivious sometimes and I have to point-blank tell him what I need. Good luck!

@Tferr02‌ that's weird that there's no set amount. We do secret santa on both sides but there's always a set amount, usually $25-$35, so that teen siblings can manage it, and the couples that are technically buying 2 gifts aren't too strapped either.

  • That's what she gets for asking for money as a gift. She's a Christmas party pooper @Tferr02‌
  • @Teresa1896‌ that's so sad, I'm so very sorry for them and all the must go through.

@meg.eliz1 that's awesome. Good luck. I hope it all goes well. Keep us updated.

@Tferr02 asking for money is ridiculous. She gets what she deserves.

We had a snow day today, which is why I'm doubtful we'll have another. But here's hoping!

  • I am unreasonable jealous of everyone who has snow. We have only had one snowfall this year and it all melted. Usually by this time of year we have a pretty decent amount and I miss it. Its all brown and ugly outside instead of white and pretty. Seriously the rest of the US needs to send the snow back to Alaska where it belongs! ok ridiculous rant over now.

@Teresa1896 I'm so sorry for your family. I was hoping that they might get some good news. Prayers for you all.

Fleece lined baby jeans? Who woulda thunk it? Genius.

We have flannel line baby jeans. That said its 72 degrees here in California today. They were hand me downs, because I'd never pay $40 for baby jeans at The Childrens Place.
  • I wish they made adult fleece-lined jeans.

Duluth trading company does. DH has many pairs, he wears when he works.

Duluth makes so much awesome crap. I could buy it all. My H loves their flannel shirts.

DH uses their cloths for work since they are limited on the types of materials they can wear while working in and on a turbine. And they are indestructible and uber warm.
  • @RedDawnsRevenge‌ after I posted, I thought about it. An extra layer of fleece would make these thighs look worse than they already do :\"> but I'd be warm!!
  • I feel like Land's End does, as well.
  • My electricity went out. Guess I'll just snuggle under the covers some more. Anyone want to deliver some coffee to me?
