Re: February Randoms

  • @peyts228 oh my goodness, 4x a day 🥴 I tested my blood sugar a lot when I was a teen/in my early 20s because I'm hypoglycemic and was having fainting episodes from it. But it was only once, maybe twice a day if the first one was sketchy. I only tested after lunchtime because that was the most frequent time it would crash, I can't imagine how sore you guys must be to test so much. Not to mention the stress and complications. I'm sorry this isn't what you hoped for 🩶
  • Loading the player...
  • Thanks, y'all. At least I know what to expect this time around, and I kept my GD log with my safe foods in it. I'd just hoped I wouldn't need it!
  • @peyts228 I'm glad you've got a jumping off point of what works for you - I wish you didn't need it again either! Who decided pregnancy needed to be *more* stressful and complicated so things like GD should exist?? Thinking of you - you've got this, I hope it goes smoothly and there aren't any issues.
  • @peyts228 I'm so sorry. I hope having the log at least helps keep things a bit easier on you. Not that I'm "glad" you know how to handle the situation, but I guess I hope that helps make it easier to navigate? Ugh, I'm just sorry
  • My prenatal appointment was supposed to be today and I only figured it out 20 minutes before it started 🤦🏻‍♀️ I called the office and they told me there was a big wreck on the highway and they were all running extremely behind so it would actually be better for them if I rescheduled which makes me not feel so bad. I'm so scatterbrained with everything going on, I swore the midwife told me February 9 🤦🏻‍♀️
It's rescheduled for next week so that gives me more time to figure out what I'm doing for them, I'm thinking a gift basket with a plant because the whole clinic is packed full of plants. I'm the world's worst gifter though so I'm slightly stressed. I need to Google some hippie midwife gifts that I can get in a week because I've procrastinated so long as usual 😂
  • @kalesix3 I keep having nightmares about missing appointments and things because I've been so pregnancy scatterbrained 😂 last night my husband mentioned gifts he ordered me for Valentines day and I completely panicked because I have not bought him anything and I am usually so on top of gifts!! Our wedding anniversary is also literally a month after Valentines so we've turned V Day into a family unit love celebration and less just our romantic love as spouses. I've seen some super clever midwife mugs and things online (the only thing I can think of currently is "midwife at your cervix") if you want something to go with your plant!
  • @thescarletmom omg he got you a valentine's day gift? I feel like around Christmas you mentioned he would forget gifts so I'm happy he didn't forget valentine's day for you. There's plenty of time to find something for him!
I have a really expensive bill from the fertility clinic I wasted several weeks at and got my HSG that was not in fact as covered by insurance as I thought it was and I've been making payments on it and stressing out so bad that I've forgotten something, I'm not cut out for this stress lol 😆
Yes I'm thinking some cool mugs because the midwives have tea and coffee in the mornings at the center and they use artisan mugs for tea for all the in labor mamas, and idk some organic lippies, herbal tea, organic snacks, and that's as much as I've brainstormed.

  • @kalesix3 I think you've got great ideas! Maybe a nice lotion as well, this winter has been terrible for dry hands!

I was literally so surprised he said it, the way I responded he was like "what, did we agree to not get each other anything and I forgot?" Nope, you're just not a good gift giver darling haha. I'm a sappy romantic letter writer so he'll get a long card (he's kept them as since we started dating so he can't hate it) and at worst, head if I can't think of anything else 😂 literally the monthly layout in my planner only has like 3 empty days in it, and I'm not keeping up lol
  • @thescarletmom I am laughing out loud 😂 whatever he gets happy Valentine's day to him, I'm really glad he remembered you! Mine always gets me several bouquets and living plants but I don't know that we'll do anything like that this year, I already have a billion plants I have to move. 😵
Yeah maybe lotion, some face masks, chocolate etc, my appointment is on Valentine's day so whatever I can find to make them all feel special.

Also, I think we were chatting diapers in another thread maybe but look at these adorable little baby diapers I ordered! I'm obsessed with the sweet prints! I'm one of those people who doesn't care what color diapers are hence the peach one, I'll use it either way! I feel like I needed to add that disclaimer for myself lol. 😂 The little Winnie the Pooh one 🥺 ok I'm done crushing lol 😂
  • @kalesix3 omg I literally just ordered the blueberry, planets, and ladybugs ones today 😂
  • @thescarletmom GREAT MINDS lol 😂 I got a discount code if I got 5 plus a coupon code that stacked, I was so thrilled!
  • In other news, I was in a car accident on my way home 🙃 it's been raining all afternoon here and I think the lady just hydroplaned into the back of my car when she was trying to break on the highway. It was the minorest car accident ever, barely damaged my bumper. It gave me a bit of jittery anxiety and I'm a bit sore now, probably from all the tension in my body from anxiety. But baby has moved as normal all evening, no bleeding or bruising. I called my midwife's emergency line and chatted about it with her and both agreed I was fine to just rest at home, but if anything changes like bleeding or sharp pain, she will meet me at the hospital.
  • @thescarletmom oh no that's like my worst nightmare, even a mild crash. I'm so sorry 😢😢 I hope tonight goes okay, give us an update tomorrow if you feel like it. I'm so anxious for you 😢
  • @kalesix3 car accidents make my heart race in such a specific way, literally so anxious about them generally but I especially freaked for a second at first because I read about car accidents causing placental abruption when I was falling down my Google rabbit hole last week 🙃 honestly, I think I'm not nearly as worried as I normally would have been, because the other woman was clearly having a way worse day than me. When we pulled over to the side of the highway and got out, she was like, I have my baby in the car, I need to get him first. Her little guy was clearly very startled by the collision, he was probably 1-1.5. It was raining, her baby was stressed, she was stressed, said she didn't have insurance, etc. None of us were hurt, and my bumper was already slightly damaged and needs to be replaced anyways and the collision barely dented it more. I could tell she had not had her best day, so I just told her it was okay and not to worry about it.

As far as me, it's been ~4 hours and I'm not any worse than a little sore and still no bleeding. Baby is moving in her usual patterns/time frames, so I feel just fine all things considered!
  • @thescarletmom gosh me too, it's suuuper specific anxiety but I immediately thought about your placenta because I had always heard that! I'm so glad you're okay. Fingers crossed for a good night with no emergencies.
Poor little guy, that's an absolute nightmare, I'm so glad they were okay too!
  • @thescarletmom I am so sorry. That's terrifying but how kind of you to be so understanding and show such kindness to her. Insurance is so important! My anxiety would sky rocket if I was driving without it! I'm so glad you and baby and the other lady and her child are all safe. That's just so scary!
  • Life has been so busy lately, sorry I have been MIA!!!

We have had a warm spell here too so we have been spending a lot of time outdoors and low tech. Back to crappy weather again today.

@peyts228 ughhh I am so sorry.  I failed my initial test with DS but then passed my second but barely.  That was almost 7 years ago.  This time the baby is measuring a full week ahead and I made the mistake of googling and I swear I have some of the symptoms. I should be taking my test soon. I am a little nervous.

  • @bridgettetheboxer I'm going to say boy too! Fingers crossed everything looks perfect!

@ReadyForaB welcome back! Those busy seasons happen to us all. I was thinking of you just the other day with a very paralegal-specific complaint 😂 an attorney at work was asking me to do something irritating and I can't remember what, haha.

@kalesix3 @hitcj4687 all is well, I'm less than sore than yesterday already which feels like a great sign! Going to the bathroom is a little nervewracking still just because I'm always on alert for bleeding but 🤞 nothing!
  • @bridgettetheboxer oh good luck, I hope it goes wonderfully ❤️

@thescarletmom oh thank goodness, I hope the next few days dispel some of the anxiety around wiping blood, I still do that everytime even though everything has been okay, pgal brain never goes away 😢

@ReadyForaB I've missed you! I'm probably about to have an extremely busy spell too though so I get it. I think snow is moving back in with a cold front so I'm probably right behind you with crappy weather, ugh 😩
  • @bridgettetheboxer ahhh how exciting!! Congratulations!!
  • @bridgettetheboxer your intuition was spot on! Congratulations! Happy nesting the next few months! It's such a good feeling!! 💛
  • @bridgettetheboxer yay for a healthy baby!! I was so excited to find out what we were having so I felt like I could actually start preparing.

@kalesix3 it was like 63 on Monday and it snowed (between 1-3 inches depending on where you are in our city) last night 😬 hate the Midwest haha.

@kalesix3 @hitcj4687 Also just remembered I promised you guys a haul photo! Still missing one package of three pieces, but was getting everything laid out to show y'all and DS2 realized mommy was alone in another room and had to come investigate 😂 so it will have to wait until later haha.
  • @thescarletmom I was just remembering that!! Whenever I take pictures of my newest baby carrier or something my son immediately knows from the other room and comes running in to help 😅
Also ugh. I don't miss the Midwest at all 😅 winter in the mountains just hits so different, my son is a complete wintertime savage though and I legitimately don't know why. I can do moderately cold with our lack of humidity at this elevation but my son literally finds nothing too cold for him. I was dying this afternoon taking him to the park and he was just vibing the whole time with the wind-chill. 💀 I've been trying to do minimum one hour outside a day and we made it 40 minutes, I couldn't hack it 🤣
  • @thescarletmom @kalesix3 the part of the Midwest I'm in is more north and it is bitter. I hate winter more and more every year!!!

@kalesix3 I'm way too asthmatic and a wimp to be outside in the deep winter. My kids are strangely hit or miss on whether they seem bothered by the cold? Either they're outside in 0° temps for hours with no sign of being slowed down or bothered. Oooor DS1 comes in after 20 minutes claiming he believes he has frostbite, and DS2 will ask to be held but won't admit he wants to come inside haha.

@hitcj4687 do you mind me asking what state you're in in the midwest? I'm in northern Missouri and it's funny to me because I've always thought of Michigan, Wisconsin, etc. as "the north" and not part of the Midwest and was shocked as an adult when I discovered they considered themselves Midwestern.

Here's my haul! Not the best lighting because it's dark. Missing two onesies and a pair of bloomers from Jamie Kay, but including those this was all ~$200 and is 95% small shops! There's I think two gap pieces in here, the rest are Simple Folk Co, Jamie Kay, LouLou+Co, Quincy Mae, Rylee+Cru, Kate Quinn, and Solly!
  • @thescarletmom omg what an adorable haul!!! I love that knit blanket also, even though it's not part of the haul lol. That's a lot of good stuff there!!  Im in Wisconsin 😂 I was born in Minnesota but am and probably forever will be, a cheese loving, beer drinking, Wisconsinite.  Winter is rough here. We were in Missouri 2 summers ago and had so much fun! Initially it was to spread my husband's grandfathers ashes, but the ceremony was canceled so we turned it into a 4 day vacation instead and celebrated his life. We spent some time in st louis and then went to Meramec caverns!

@thescarletmom ahah! Ugh there are so many paralegal specific complaints that could be had. Also, your haul is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE!!!

  • @hitcj4687 thank you! It's the casaluna chunky knit blanket from target! And surprisingly warm. All of my earthy toned bedding (aside from throw pillows) is courtesy of target's casaluna line 👌🏼

I bet winters are rough up there! Jasper's dad is from northern Michigan (the can see the border of Canada across the Great Lake kind of north) and we went to visit once in late March/early April. The weather was insane in the 4 or 5 days we were there! But it can be absolutely inane here too. I'm in the *other* big city in Missouri (Go Chiefs), but have obviously been to STL! I think people are always surprised that Missouri isn't entirely cowtowns, there's some great tourist cities here. We're big hometown people and were both born and raised here, so we've just learned to suffer through the extreme opposites that we manage to get between summer and winter, but not without complaining haha.

@ReadyForaB thank you! And so many 😂 my current biggest complaint is my coworker paralegal who always sends me ECF notices and is like "did you save this?" after we already specifically discussed that I would take point on this particular case. Then yesterday she was like, "can you assume responsibility for saving pleadings regarding this matter" DEBBIE. Stop it!! Let me forward you the email from 4 months ago when we had this discussion already, and you keep sending me emails to save things anyways like I'm 12 lol.
  • @thescarletmom This is annoying.  I wouldn't even answer her.  She can look herself if it is saved if she is so concerned! Also, why is she concerned?  Does she not have enough work to do?!?! haha. Also, I don't have any fellow paralegals so I also kind of envy that. (super small firm problems!)

@ReadyForaB I have definitely not bothered responding to most of those emails. We're a tiny firm too (only 8 regular staff, plus occasionally 2 law clerks that come and go). Genuinely would rather be the only paralegal 😂 She has way better things to do than micromanage me, but between today and yesterday, I've had 3 separate 30+ minute phone calls with her, explaining things are 1. Very basic, 2. Not anything she needs to know to complete her task at hand, and 3. Things I've already explained recently!! For example, I put together a spreadsheet of everything our clients have produced in disovery that are a very particular category, asked of me by my attorney. She called me saying, I think you omitted something here/made a mistake/etc. And then I explain no, this is why I did x, or you were looking in the wrong column of the spreadsheet, blah blah blah. All the "issues" she found were her own misunderstandings. I hate it because not only does it waste my time, but I'm worried she might be telling my attorneys I've made mistakes that I haven't. Ugh. Please retire, you're 80 🙃
  • @thescarletmom that is painful.  I came from a much larger firm with like 10 paralegals but we had none of that.  Everyone was entirely too busy for that nonsense.

  • @ReadyForaB I've worked in two other slightly-larger-but-still-small firms, with no more than 4 paralegals total at either. Nobody has ever watched me over my shoulder like this! Not even at my first paralegal job when I was still in school. Usually we're not working on even remotely the same cases at the same time, but heaven forbid if we overlap at all, she is suddenly very worried about what I'm doing. Even if they're very separate tasks.

In other news, DS1 lost his second winter coat of this season a few weeks ago. We knew he lost it at school, because DH put it on him one morning and he came home without it. But we weren't sure if it was *at* school or on the bus, etc. We told him to check the lost and found. He said he did and it wasn't there. I told him to keep checking just in case it takes a while to get turned in, etc. This morning he told DH he found a coat matching his coat exactly in the lost and found, but he wasn't *sure* it was his so he just said he didn't find it. JASPER!!! DH told him he needed to get it TODAY, and I even called the office to be like, hey cam someone make sure my son gets his coat out of the lost and found? So hopefully he comes home with it! Right after he lost it, I went to target to try and search for a new one but they already had swimsuits out 🙃 so he's been without for a while and we just put like three layers of fleeces etc. on him.
  • @thescarletmom and not to sound ageist, but I think a lot of people in that generation have some sort of weird fetish for acting that way haha.

  • @pttomato that's great news! 🤞 it stays that way. Thinking of you, I know this has been really hard to navigate.

@ReadyForaB oh no, you're absolutely right though. The micromanagement and constant (inaccurate) corrections in this particular way is something I've only noticed from that generation. She's a nice person, usually incredibly considerate and thoughtful. But as a co*worker* she can be a total nightmare, it's like she steps on my toes on purpose sometimes.
  • Swear I'm not trying to blow up the randoms thread today but I'm starting to get super anxious about DH's grandma's birthday dinner tonight. This is the first time we'll see them since we had my midwife appt, and I'll lay down the law on my new "no baby talk" boundary. It's not at all that I think they won't respect it or react kindly or anything, but setting boundaries can just be really hard sometimes, especially growing up as the consumate people-pleaser. And honestly I think it's also the having to admit out loud that there's something scary looming over me and I'm struggling to manage it. Ugh. Also a teensy bit nervous that if DS1 hears me say there's concerns for my safety he'll freak out. When I was in my first tri and my HG was uncontrolled, he told me he was afraid I was going to die from the baby. 😬
