Hi, I am a mom and a BA student at the
University of Amsterdam doing an anonymous, non-commercial linguistic study on
maternal language. May I share my academic link with your community? The guidelines
say no surveys with monetary gain but this is purely academic research questionnaire
with no monetary gain is that ok? Thanks 😊

Re: The Great Big Question Thread!
I know this is not your typical pregnancy related question whatsoever, but I don’t even know where to write this type of thing. I’m heartbroken writing this, but every good thought/vibe, or prayers (whatever your religious beliefs) would be appreciated tremendously right now. Yesterday afternoon, my boyfriend was on his way home from work, where we were planning on telling our parents the gender reveal of our baby, when he got in an accident. He’s eighteen years old and currently on life support. I don’t have many answers at the moment to his current condition, but it’s extremely critical. I’m almost 21 weeks pregnant and I’m beyond scared out of my mind at the thought of raising, and delivering this baby on my own. The hospital isn’t letting any visitors in other than his parents because of a COVID spike, so I haven’t even been allowed in to be with him. I cant sleep, my anxiety is through the roof right now, and I feel at such a total loss right now with getting through this and this pregnancy. This is our first baby, and on top of an already difficult pregnancy so far and the fears from that, I just don’t know how I will be able to be a good mom if I lose him. Thoughts and prayers appreciated so so much!! ❤️❤️❤️
I have similar road blocks with starting the nursery or even birthing/infant care classes. It feels overwhelming even tho I know it's simple to register for a class at local hospitals.

If you're feeling intimidated by starting, it's a lot easier if you break it down into categories, such as bathtime, feeding, changing, for mum, toys, etc. Just pick away at one category at a time. Once you get going it's a lot easier. Also, if you have one item you do know you really want, just enter that and you may find that it gets easier from there.
@mcclanna I am going to stalk those lists right now because I was told I need to expand the list. Like WHAT I have almost 50 items already and a very limited living space.
Also I love babylist, but it can be a pain to organize. Still better than other registries I've tried, though!
Side note: if any Chicagoland Mamas are looking for a used city mini gt double in blue complete with belly bars, trays, a cooler, and rain shield; let me know. It's in excellent condition. I'm about to list it on Facebook marketplace.
I would really recommend asking your OB what they would recommend taking. He was able to take sudafed, mucinex, nyquil, doxycycline/inhaler (because he also developed pneumonia), vitamin c and d. We were basically just trying to throw everything we could at it and I know some of these are not recommended during pregnancy. One of my friends who caught the initial omicron wave while pregnant did take sudafed (which is class C) and was under close watch by her OB.
Have some tea, rest as much as you can, and sanitize everything once you feel better. It sucks and I'm so sorry that y'all are dealing with it right now. Hope that you and your mom feel better soon
I didn't take much medication, but did do Zinc lozenges every day (2-3 a day, more is not recommended for pregnancy), extra vitamin C and D, and Sudafed PE a couple of nights when the congestion was really bad. Other than that, just natural remedies that tend to work for me. Most other meds aren't recommended for pregnancy. I get super snotty with upper respiratory illnesses and a neti pot kinda helped clear things out. Right now my sinuses are still really dry from all the nose blowing, so I'm doing some saline spray. That's it though. I never had a fever, but take Tylenol if you do.
Oh-- and hydration is extra important for Covid, and extra extra important when pregnant. So just get a few cases of your favorite beverage from grocery pickup and settle in. And plain water too, of course.
Lastly, I'd just message your OB or midwife to let them know. They probably won't be concerned but it's good to keep them posted in case you have any weird or lasting effects.
My sons pediatrician said the strain that’s going around right now is staying at the top of the lungs and is mild so I’m hoping that’s the strain we got stuck with!
