I’m having a lot of anxiety tonight. After working out I passed a small blood clot and there was a some pink blood when I wiped. It lasted for 2 hours. I don’t have cramping but, I’m going to continue monitoring myself. I’m not sure if I should wait till Monday to call my doctors office or go to urgent care tomorrow. Has anyone else experienced this? This is my first pregnancy, so vaginal bleeding makes me feel very nervous
After working out, heavy coughing or just constipation (I have that problem) you could see some light spotting. It’s always best to call dr when possible to rule out anything. I went to labor and delivery yesterday for some spotting since my normal drs office was closed. How far along are you @rosemagana?
@jilliboo I’m exactly 26 weeks today.. So labor and delivery would be a better option for me instead of urgent care or a regular hospital visit? It’s been 5 hours since I started having pink when I wipe, now I have a light brown.
@rosemagana I’m also 26/1 and I was told after 24, if I had issues to go to labor and delivery. I know each place is a bit different. But it wouldn’t hurt. Brown is usually just old blood leaving the body. I have that usually for a dayish after a spotting episode. I have bled/spotted this entire pregnancy. But it never hurts to go in and be seen.
@relizabethp My midwife talked me through if it's an amniotic leak and she said it's that you would be able to wring out a pantyliner. She suggested that if I think it might be happening to put one on to see.
@rosemagana Good idea to go in to get checked in case it's from your cervix readying itself too early.
Anyone else completely checked out from work? I mean I'm still doing it but I want to be working on projects on my home instead. So much to do before baby.
@wileybliss Same here. I'm just so tired, it's hard to concentrate. I found out my contract is getting dropped the week before I'm due and I'm finding it really hard to care at all about the work now.
Anyone else have experience with anemia? I just got diagnosed with mild anemia but my OBGYN had no recommendations for what to do about it. She just said it's normal in pregnancy. I get that it's common but it would be nice to do something to fix it. Maybe then I'd be less tired!
@ferret22 Not in this pregnancy, but I struggled with off and on anemia for years. Palafer is a great iron supplement you can take, which is pregnancy safe, and should be taken with vitamin C. Make sure not to take calcium or eat high calcium foods close to when you take it. Cooking in cast iron cookware also dramatically changed my iron levels for the better. Anemia can make you feel absolutely exhausted so you may find your energy improves a bit if you can get those iron levels up.
Hi all! Has anyone else been dealing with dental issues during this pregnancy? I floss, brush and use mouth wash daily, but about 2-4 hours after I do it, I start getting an icky film on my teeth. I just went to the dentist last week and he said that my teeth and gums are looking great, but I forgot to ask him about the film. I occasionally have a bit of bleeding in my gums and he said it was normal even with me flossing everyday. Also, I don’t use fluoride since it’s a neurotoxin if that changes anything. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Dental issues are super common. It gets super bloody every time I floss (which is often). This has happened with every pregnancy. It's incredibly common to have more sensitive teeth or for gums to bleed more. I just make sure I keep my dental appointments for cleanings and exams.
@kat_vegan87 yes, I'm having gum issues with bleeding and swelling. I've been to the dentist a few times and even though I'm taking care of my home hygiene as best as I can it's still an issue. I also have one of those small pregnancy gum tumors you can get so I often get a lot of blood when flossing. It's the worst! I hate all kind of dental issues so you have all my empathy.
Officially into the third trimester this week and crazy nesting urges have begun! Didn't have time to act on them much today and now it's late and I'm tired, but did make a spreadsheet for cleaning/organizing/decluttering this weekend! Part of it is that we have to move my older two in together to make a room for baby, and as I'm getting more round and ungainly I'm feeling like we'd better get moving on this stuff before I physically *can't*. But also I can't stop thinking about organizing and decluttering alllll the cabinets! Anyone else experiencing this?
@serenejellybean Fully kicked in for me today. I've been having nesting thoughts for awhile, but actually tackled some organizing today like I was on a mission!
@ferret22I was borderline anemic so my ob recommended I take an iron supplement for the third trimester. It is a pain because you are supposed to take it on an empty stomach with some vitamin C; I end up fighting off nausea for a while. I read somewhere that waiting an hour after taking it to eat is sufficient to not mess with absorption. Still experimenting on what to eat to mitigate nausea best...I guess my energy levels are improving? I was a vegetarian for 20 years until this pregnancy! I had been less invested but still committed in the last few years as I was working through some fitness goals, and then I read "Real Food for Pregnancy" and the research just totally swayed me. So I'm definitely eating more iron-rich foods *and* taking the supplement, at least through the end of pregnancy, and then hopefully I can just maintain appropriate levels through diet. But I read that it can take a while for iron stores to build up, so I can probably use the extra help right now!
Hi, ftm 27 weeks and 4 days pregnant. Yesterday a customer said, “You havnt popped yet?” This customer is known to always have back handed compliments. Still though it had me wondering if i’m overly big. I’m about 5’4 and was 120 pounds before being pregnant. At my last doctors appointment I weighed 150 pounds! My doctor hasn’t said anything and doesn’t seemed worried. Also up till when i just hit week 26/27 there would be days where I didn’t even looked pregnant and just looked like I weighed a bit more. I know weight gain is different for everyone during pregnancy but I also don’t know what I should be looking out for.
This has probably been talked about some, especially in all the product spotlight discussions, but bear with me as I haven’t been on my phone much at all lately and am super behind on here with things. As a FTM, what would some of you say are the essentials to buy for a baby? Have a car seat right now haha, but besides that haven’t gotten to purchase anything yet and don’t want to get sucked into buying things that aren’t super necessary. Any recommendations?
@daisyyyy depending on how minimalistic you are I'd say crib, stroller, diapers, wipes, clothing, baby friendly cream/soap and bottles. You won't need toys for some time. Diaper bag can be just a normal bag, bath towels you can use normal towels. Eventually I'd say a little chair is useful so they don't stay in their crib too long and get flat head. I'd say these are really the bare essentials, and if you're tight on budget you can find so many second hand things on Facebook market or thrift stores, I rarely buy anything new as I see no point since babies outgrow everything within months. Good luck!
@bunnybb13 you look fabulous! Some people have no idea what pregnant women look like so you either don't look pregnant or if you show enough then you must be ready to pop. Don't stress about it!
@serenejellybean I've been nesting like crazy. For the past week we've been decluttering, organizing and making room for baby. I feel 10x better every time we get a room well-organized.
Anyone else leaking colostrum pretty early on? 27 weeks and had a good laugh today as I was in a meeting at work to look down and see my shirt was all wet. At first thought I was just sweaty but then realized I was just leaking colostrum 😂😂
Anyone else have a randomly high BP after drinking the glucose mix for their test? I don't typically have much sugar (it makes me feel terrible and jittery) and my Dr. sent me for 2 hours of monitoring instead of retaking my BP. I have zero symptoms of high BP but I’m assuming it was a precaution because I am over 35. Hoping this was a one off but now I’ll be nervous every visit!
@lulu10122 When I had my first high BP reading, my doctor had me wait around a bit and retake my BP to see if it had gone down. I was overwhelmed going into my appointment, so she talked through things with me, and by the end of my appointment it was back to normal.
@KGETS86 I wish my OB had done that. She sent me to be monitored and I didn’t realize I was being admitted to labor and delivery. It was 167/98 and came down after I calmed down from the situation a few minutes later. I understand hospital procedures but now I feel unnecessarily stressed by this. Felt like I was being ignored as if I don’t know my own body and wasn’t given an option?
@lulu10122 that is a high BP read and I think the dr was probably more concerned that it was out of the ordinary for you . A sharp spike in BP is a sign of pre eclampsia which can quickly turn bad for you and the baby. While upsetting, as someone who has been turned away when there were warning signs of something wrong I would much prefer my dr overreact, under reacting has caused me to almost die - twice. Also, while being sent to labor and delivery might seem distressing for me it’s a little sign that the baby can be saved if the worst comes about- they don’t send people to labor and delivery if there isn’t anything labor or delivery can do .
Has anyone else tried to measure their own fundus? I did and I wish I hadn’t because it’s only measuring 23cm at 27+2. I have a little over a week til my next appointment and now I’m very anxious. The reason I measured is because I haven’t put on any weight since 20 weeks, and am only up 8lbs for the whole pregnancy. I started at a normal weight. Is it possible I’m doing the measurement wrong?
Thanks for the info @relizabethp. I’m sorry you went through that, that is absolutely unacceptable. Agree that better safe than sorry, wishing that healthcare would listen more in our cases. Glucose causes adverse reactions in some patients apparently, so I guess I’m just one of the lucky ones!
@siouxieq87 It's very possible you're doing it wrong. Have you been measuring small at your visits before now? If not, try not to worry. The fundal measurements are a guestimate for them anyway it doesn't necessarily mean baby is big or small, but if things are outside the range they expect they may have you do an extra ultrasound to check with real measurements of your actual baby. ALSO the measurement starts a lot lower than you probably think, top of the pubic bone is barely a couple inches from your vagina. It's really easy to not measure correctly when you're doing it by yourself.
@bunnybb13 you look great! I gained at about that rate with my first. This is mostly anecdotal, but from everyone I’ve talked to it seems that smaller/thinner people tend to gain more than average, often more than the general guidelines. And TV shows and movies show like 6 month pregnant bellies as full term so it gives people the wrong idea of how big a pregnant woman can look.
@daisyyyy I’ve been leaking colostrum since like week 20. Not really enough to soak through a shirt or anything, but it’ll come out if I squeeze or sometimes I see dried stuff.
@lulu10122 im glad you are doing well and I completely agree- i wish the health care industry actually listened to us.
@siouxieq87 i have not tried to measure myself, however, i am seen by both normal OBGYN and high risk . At my last OBGYN the dr tried to measure but stopped and said it was “inherently inaccurate” and since im with high risk there is no point since they will do the measurements and monitoring via u/s. So I would definitely not panic and wait to see what your dr says at the next appointment.
@lulu10122 that’s pretty high, but with glucola right before I’d have probably preferred waiting and taking a reading. If you get high readings after this, prepare for lots of trips to L&D for monitoring. I went 4 times before my OB decided to induce at 38 weeks. My BP would go down if I laid on my left side, but bed rest at that point didn’t make sense.
I’ve had gestational hypertension with each of my boys, so anticipating it again this time, especially since I’m over 35 now.
I barely remember them from my first two pregnancies but this time I have been having them pretty much daily, sometimes more, since about 20 weeks. One trigger seems to be if I have to pee and I have to hold it for more than a minute! Ive read dehydration can increase frequency, but I think I do a good job on that front….
@serenejellybean I'm feeling them way more with this pregnancy than I did with my first, which I've heard is a thing. Definitely worse if I have to pee too, or if I'm over exerting myself.
I (barely) passed my glucose screening 🙌🏻 But the CBC came back with low red blood cell count. They said to try to eat more iron rich foods in the meantime but I have to get follow up bloodwork to determine what else I’ll need to do. Anyone know what else they are testing for? They sent the script right to the testing facility so I’m not sure what they ordered.
Edit - I was able to get in for the bloodwork already apparently it’s Ferritin, B12, and Folate. Google says it’s to determine what type of anemia I have. I had my B12 and Folate tested last year with my physical and they were fine but the last ferritin I see is 2019 and it was low, so I started taking a PNV with iron, but maybe it wasn’t enough. Will be interesting to see!
Starting to do kick counts, but baby is mostly active when I’m in the car on my way to work, or trying to sleep…and some days I walk more so he’s not as active as the day before. Suggestions please
@jilliboo I do prenatal yoga, and at the end during savasana, they make you lay on your side on the floor. It is during this I found a foolproof way to get my baby moving lol. I lay on my side and put my belly on the ground, kind of turned in? A slight flattening of the side of my belly. Baby HATES it (I assume) and that always gets her hitting the floor through my belly within about 20 seconds. It's gotta be the floor though, she won't do this on a couch/bed/pillow.
Might be good to experiment with positions you notice him moving the most! Like with the car, maybe it's a certain way your posture is, or maybe it's the seat belt. Maybe try to replicate how you sit out of the car. Or, lol, just go sit in the car to see if you can get him moving in your driveway sometimes.
Re: The Great Big Question Thread!
@rosemagana Good idea to go in to get checked in case it's from your cervix readying itself too early.

What was your BP?
