I got a docs appointment scheduled I’m only worried because it’s been so many days and seemingly progressively worse. Im a nurse which also means unfortunately I’m a bit of a hypochondriac 😂 but she said if I think I’m hydrated and it’s not getting any better to come in so I’ll do that to be safe! Thanks all! I’m sure I’ll be back with more questions soon LOL
Had my appointment today and the midwife randomly decided my belly looked big and decided to do a fundal height measurement. Apparently even though I’m 18+3, the measurement is at 25 weeks. Everything I’m reading is saying before 20 weeks tends to be somewhat inaccurate… but I’m going in for a growth scan Thursday anyway. I’m solid on my dates, but they want to check.
I have a short torso and weird body shape so I feel like this is just a weird coincidence but was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen (at least with such a large discrepancy). Not particularly worried, just mainly curious.
@dsmith211 you positive you're not having twins?😜 just teasing. I think its "normal" to be off either direction by 2 but not sure about 6.5. Would make sense if you're just carrying baby in a way that would make the measurement a bit off.
@babywiik The midwife did check today and didn’t see a second… although it was low level so I guess you never know. But no one has heard or seen anything yet. Fingers crossed it is just one. 😬
I mean everyone I run into seems to think I’m carrying high, which could cause issues with measurement. And I’m not really confident she was actually able to feel the top of my uterus to do an accurate measurement. I guess we’ll see Thursday, but it just seemed weird to me they even tried to measure now when no one has said anything until today.
Hello ladies! Is there anyone here who is also experiencing, or has experienced sciatica during their pregnancy? I am currently 20+5 It began this week and I am fine during the day as I walk around a lot for work (kinder teacher) but at night when I usually relax and put up my feet the pain begins in my lower back on the left side and down to my butt 😭 I can’t get comfortable and then the pain continues and follows me to bed! Any advice about relief?
@mtlpeanut I've been having similar issues, especially on days when I'm winding down after exercise. https://www.rocketcitychiropractic.com/10-piriformis-stretches-to-get-rid-of-sciatica-hip-and-lower-back-pain/ has been helpful for me, though I've been sticking with the less exciting stretches just because I don't entirely trust my balance! I also find it helps if I do a 'downward dog' yoga pose and then bend one knee a bit, leaning back into the extended calf. I'll hold DD for 10 seconds, then bend one knee and hold that for 10 seconds, then go back to DD for 10 seconds, then bend the other knee for 10 seconds.
(I feel like I should add a disclaimer that I'm just some random person with similar injuries, not a yoga instructor or physical therapist or anything! But these really have helped me.)
First time mom-to-be, due 9/25/22
Some complicated chromosomal stuff going on - our fingers are crossed, but this may not go according to plan!
@mtlpeanut I’ve never had sciatica but have been struggling with my left butt cheek. Pigeon pose stretch is SUPER HELPFUL for me, maybe it would work for you? See gif in spoiler.
I have been experiencing it at night and have a hard time sleeping with it. It helps me to roll a tennis ball on the area of pain. I put a link to a video my aunt who is a nurse suggested me to try and it helped tremendously. I have done it twice and it eases up each time.
@mtlpeanut I had it really bad with my last pregnancy, and it started pretty early with this one. For my last I was at the chiropractor twice a week the last 6ish weeks, it was temporary relief, but mine was so bad when I turned my body I would get an electric jolt down my leg that would make me almost collapse in pain.
Currently I, like you only experience it at night. Setting up a chiropractor appointment hasn't happened because when I remember that I need one they're usually not open, and when they're open I usually forget to call because I'm not in any pain. That said, I've gotten a pillow for my legs at night and it definitely helps. When I forget to use it, it's a bad night. I first opted for it because I can't fit a pregnancy pillow with two cosleeping toddlers, but it's so much better than a pregnancy pillow. It's more stiff and keeps my legs aligned better with my hips, and it has the strap that makes it so I don't lose it.
@mtlpeanut I have also been seeing a chiropractor which as been great. Sleeping with a pillow between my legs has also helped a lot.
This has been my favorite quick yoga youtube video when my back is acting up it really helps. It set a good base for some moves I can do if I am at work and need to get a little relief.
I want to add a suggestion to see a physical therapist instead of a chiropractor.
A PTs job is to give you tools that help you never see them again while many chiropractors help you maintain your existence without giving you steps needed to be healthy without their interventions.
I have seen both and been greatly helped by both, but I will never see another chiropractor because my PTs helped me fix the issues that caused me pain and gave me tools and exercises to make sure I don’t end up in that place again.
There is no judgment at all for whatever you choose; I think this is a perspective to add since I see a lot of people going to chiropractors but not as many mentions of physical therapists.
Anyone dealing with passive aggressive comments from co-workers about your pregnancy? The next time a male colleague tells me they want to be pregnant to get that much time off I’m going to blow up! 🤬
Knottie, I haven’t experienced that (female dominated work place, and the men get 3 paid weeks paternal leave too) but I’m sorry you are. That would be so frustrating!
Thank you so much for all of the back pain suggestions and advice! I will try out your suggestions and I look forward to not feeling such pain! Merci bc ladies for your wonderful support:)
@mtlpeanut back pain is so debilitating. Hope you can get some relief. I love and have gotten help from both my chiropractor and physical therapist as well the MamaStrong program. I didn't do anything about back pain with my first pregnancy and I wish I had. Postpartum I got really bad tailbone pain which I still have occasionally but with correct stretching and moving I can keep the pain under control. Back pain has recently begun to make its appearance again so doing all the things and hope it keeps working🤞🏼
Does anyone else sometimes get the strongest urge to throw a toddler-style tantrum? Scream incoherently, cry, lay on the floor. Maybe throw pillows around.
I finally figured out how to consistently exist off the pill after 1.5 years off when I got pregnant, and knowing my moods is big for me, so this throws me off 😂 I really hope I’m not alone in this. It’ll be the smallest thing that triggers it too, not the big things that would absolutely be tantrum-worthy.
@pangolindrome YES! I know that 75% of the time I'm miserable to be around bC I'm so irritated so easily. I am a MSW and I know a lot of coping skills but still struggle.
@pangolindrome Yes, can definitely relate! It's not even completely pregnancy-related for me, but pregnancy has definitely exacerbated it. I seem to feel all emotions deeply, which is a blessing and a curse!
@Knottie1429978480 my FEMALE coworkers have said this numerous times. They have said “it’ll be so nice to have a 3 month break” and “I’d love to have that much time off”
It leaves me speechless every time, especially because they’re women.
@pangolindrome I have noticed I’ve gotten very short with patience. I just don’t have time for unsolicited advice, comments about my body, comments about how hard birth will be, I’m just done with it all. I usually let this stuff slide but now I find myself filled with rage internally and usually do wish j could just throw a tantrum to get rid of the yucky feelings.
I can’t stand being unable to get my brazilian wax done and I’m thinking I’ll try to time one as close to my due date as I dare… but how soon after birth have fellow intimate waxers been able to get theirs?
@pangolindrome why can’t you get a wax? I was doing laser treatments, which got paused for covid and now pregnancy. I was going to get waxed in the interim.
@pangolindrome I got waxed throughout both my first two pregnancies up until 35 ish weeks and the only reason I didn’t go again was because I gave birth before 38 weeks with them both.
I would say you’d want your doctor to clear you afterward because it’s going to depend on your type of birth and your stitches and other stuff healing.
@pangolindrome are you thinking about not being able to get one for some time after birth? There is a huge range of how quickly people heal. I had 2nd degree tears and i though the stitches healed, I had abrasions in the area that didn't heal as quickly due to hormones. It hurt to pee for a good 12 weeks. I didn't want anything near my vaginal until like 4 months postpartum. Some women are all healed up and fine after just a few weeks🤷♀️
I’m also really short with patience at the moment @lucyg00cy. I feel awful because I yelled at my toddler today (I never raise my voice at her ever) and she balled her eyes out 😭😭😭
@pangolindrome I think that would depend on whether you have an episiotomy or not, and then if you do have one, what degree it is. I would say at least 6 weeks, which if you get one close to your due date wouldn’t be much longer than you’d normally go between them? I’d keep getting waxed as regularly as you normally do during pregnancy. I did with my first (and would with this one but there’s nowhere in my town that does them 😬)
I'm already starting to hate shaving, and have considered starting up waxing again. I stopped because we're in money-saving mode to finish the house before baby gets here. I really don't enjoy the process AT ALL! It's worth it though not to have to keep up with it all the time... I'm still on the fence.
Y’all I haven’t stopped - I wax every four weeks - my concern is for after birth. I have NO REASON to stop.
I get hella itchy and stinky when I can’t wax.
I hope I heal quickly 😅 like I’m sure I will be distracted with life as a new parent, but I need my regular brazilians and I don’t see that changing. I’ll have to see what happens, I guess, but I could survive six+ weeks without if I had to. It wouldn’t be by choice though 😝
@leannechristina I do my own which saves a lot of money and my hair gets really uncomfortable, so I am NEVER going back to shaving. That’s my personal thing.
Where are my moms that have/have had an anterior placenta? When can I expect good, consistent movement? I feel him move like 1-3x a day but always very lightly and super low. I need some reassurance from this kid and this placenta isn't allowing it. I'm 20 weeks today.

@ashley35209 Anterior here also. I totally hear you on the anxiety thing. My anatomy scan today was super reassuring because he was kicking around like crazy and there even though I still can't feel very much. Give it a few weeks
Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
@ashley35209 with my son I had anterior placenta and I couldn’t feel movement until 28 weeks and after that I could really only feel him kicking on the sides of my belly. I have an anterior placenta this time but for some reason I feel this baby moving already and I think I’m 22 weeks now. Maybe I’m all stretched out now 😵💫
@ashley35209 I had an anterior with my first. I felt consistent movement after 25 weeks. I'm assuming yours is higher up if you're able to feel low movement, I couldn't feel a think with mine at 20 weeks.

ive done sugaring throughout and had no problem! Kinda different than wax but very similar
