@ovgabby that’s my due date too! I’m 99% sure it was on my birthday, December 22 but we were actively trying so I think it could have been anywhere around then
So my sister just found out she needs to have a c-section (baby is breech and she's 37 weeks). I'd love to get her some post C-section recovery stuff, but I have no idea what she might need. Any suggestions?
We closed on a new house on Monday and hired a painter to paint the entire first floor. They will be done today (Wednesday) and we are planning on moving in and sleeping there on Saturday. Do you think this is enough time to ventilate the house before sleeping there? Planning to leave the windows open all day tomorrow and Friday.
@lalarose22 definitely enough time- most paints are low/zero-VAC now anyway which is nice! Just double check in the type of paint they’re using if you don’t already know.
@lalarose22 oh I’m sure that’s plenty of time! We painted our toddler’s room when I was pregnant and although we were told paints these days are zero or low VOC, if we wanted to be extra cautious then to just open some windows while painting and it’s totally fine. They said there’s no need to even leave the house. If you have 3-4 days before you move in, I’m sure we your house will filter out any minimal fumes from the paint.
@Fluffy1187 first as someone who had to have a c-section because of a breech baby and did way too much research on it, does she know she has other options.
First she could have a vaginal breech birth depending on where she lives and her hospitals, if there was a hospital in my state that would have allowed our been trained in it, I would have driven the distance for that attempt.
Second she could have an ecv (if she goes that route have her ask for the epidural) mine didn't work and I think it came from the fact I refused the epidural and couldn't relax my muscles enough for them to maneuver baby.
Then there's spinning babies exercises, look them up online, add well as tilt tables and ice packs and such.
Also my chrio said he was only in able to flip one baby ever, second one being mine.
Now I tried all the things and couldn't get baby to flip. After reading many things after birth, I found out some babies will flip in labor, I wish I would have allowed my daughter to try that but I was scheduled for a c-section at 39 weeks.
Some c-section things that were nice to have
Grabbing claw because picking things up off the floor sucks.
Snacks and drinks that can be left out so you don't have to get up. Meals because standing to cook isn't too much fun. Gift cards for take out are the best. Really big granny panties because anything touching the cut hurts. Think up to boobs height. Check out amazon they have good options, nothing I found at Walmart were high enough even if they said high waisted.
@Fluffy1187 no experience or tips on what would be good for c-section recovery but I had a coworker that she got her second baby (first was also breech) to flip on their own by rubbing a bit of peppermint oil on the top of her belly. Baby didn't like it and turned on their own. No c-section needed after all. I've also heard good things about spinning babies.
@jhysmath & @babywiik - Thanks for the tips. I've told her for weeks now to do spinning excersizes, see a second doctor, and an acupuncturist - she is her own person, and has chosen the c section over pursuing other alternatives. The baby is measuring big and they're concerned about low amniotic fluid levels. It definitely wouldn't have been the path I would choose for myself - but now I'm just trying to be as supportive as possible.
I know there are some other social workers/mental health professionals on here, but I forget if everyone is at an agency or doing private practice. I’ll take FMLA from my school social work job, but trying to figure out the best plan for my part time private practice. I see about 5 clients a week, 7-8 clients total, about half virtually and half in person. No more than 2 hours/evening or 3 hours/Saturday morning.
For any private practice mommas, what are your thoughts?
I plan to start telling clients over the next 2 weeks that I'm pregnant/maternity plan (many are virtual so can’t see the bump and have no idea; I think my in person clients suspect).
Im thinking of taking off all of Sept and half of Oct. Do virtual only remainder of Oct and then in person and virtual in Nov. I go back to school job in December.
What do you think? I also need a plan in place in case I deliver early - but haven’t thought through that yet.
In addition to my main gig, I also do telehealth VA disability evaluations. They're "one and done" so there's no ongoing contact. I will probably plan to continue to do them, but reduce my scheduling availability.
Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
Anyone get a second COVID booster in pregnancy? Both my primary care & ob support it but I’m just feeling apprehensive that I should either wait until later in the pregnancy or after the baby is here. I think I’m looking for shared experience or support haha
@ciscothedog2018 I haven’t had the second booster yet but had the first when I was pregnant (around 3 weeks) I am hoping I’ll qualify to get the second booster before the due date - best way to give the baby some immunity as there are no covid vaccines for babies yet (at least not yet in Canada). Will feel more comfortable with post-birth visiting and such if we are more protected.
@ciscothedog2018 I’m not yet eligible in my area but I will get it once I’m eligible. My friend’s sister got Covid from her FIL riiiiight before she went into labour so both her and her newborn were sick with Covid during and shortly after delivery. It was not fun for either of them. Labour and postpartum are difficult enough, I don’t want Covid added to them as a cherry on top.
@ciscothedog2018 What about the booster are you feeling apprehensive about?
I got my first booster (3rd dose of Moderna) around week 5. I had the same side effects as MH. No impact that I know of on the pregnancy. I was breastfeeding for all three doses and didn’t notice anything different with my daughter. I think I’d probably prefer to wait until after the birth for my next booster, just because of the potential exposure, assuming I would have to go to get it at a drug store.
I got my first booster at about 10 weeks, no issues. Currently, if you got Pfizer or Moderna for your previous ones, a booster is not being recommended for 18-49 unless you are high risk. So I'm not recommended for one currently.

@csardaszz not necessarily, if you're otherwise in good health. I would see what your doctor says.

@ciscothedog2018 not me, but my best friend got her first shot and booster 6 months later while pregnant and she and baby did fine. She had similar symptoms to others - felt bad with cold like symptoms for 24 hrs. But even for non pregnant people, they suggest avoiding medicine and letting your body have the immune response if you can.
@csardaszz around here, pregnant people are considered “immunocompromised” so if a pregnant person gets Covid, they are eligible for the PCR test whereas someone of good health that isn’t pregnant can only get rapid tests done. This is just how it is where I live though, other provinces/states are different. In terms of eligibility for another booster, here it’s linked more so to age which sounds similar to how it is in @kboydbowman’s area.
@ciscothedog2018 not currently able to qualify for the second booster, but I will get it when I am. The booster kicked my butt last time and of course my husband left for the day so it was me caring for our two toddlers while feeling like poop. When I qualify I will make sure to get it when I am able to feel like poop and not care for others. I got my first booster in November so I feel like I should be on the list to get another some time soon, but I will see what my doctors think about getting closer to due date for those extra protections.
Re: c-section, high waisted underwear, anything to help not cook, and pads. I liked the nighttime ones that had the large back area. Even though you have a c section, you will still have post partum bleeding.
What are your go-to maternity leggings for working out AND what are your go-to leggings to dress up enough for wearing to work?
I am fine with wearing a tunic over them to cover my butt for work. I really am not a dress person, so I am hoping to get away with leggings rather than buying pants I’ll literally only need for a month. If it matters, I am a size medium.
@pangolindrome lululemon leggings have been my go-to for ages bow. Their Align line is the best- soft, super stretchy so all of them still fit me now even at 22 weeks. They also make high waisted leggings that’s easily go over a bump. The all black ones are easy to layer with too, almost look like thick tights.
As for the booster convo- I’ve had three rounds of Pfizer and will get the second booster (4th shot) once I’m eligible. I’m also looking into a whooping couch vaccine because I have no idea if I’ve ever had one before…I assume maybe when I was a kid?
Has anyone gotten a whooping couch vaccine while pregnant? Is it a normal thing, from what I’ve read it seems fairly common but non of my midwives have brought it up to me in my visits so maybe I’m looking too far into it?
@lucyg00cy My OB recommended that I get the TDAP vaccine (which covers whooping cough) around 28 weeks. As far as I understand, it's highly recommended that all pregnant women get it. She even suggested my husband get the TDAP (as long as he hadn't already gotten it in the last 5 years).
Don't lose hope ladies with anterior placentas... I can only feel baby super low (like right in line with my hip bone) and I only feel him like once a day. Today he kept hitting the same spot so I put my hand there and applied a little pressure and I was actually able to feel him from the outside! Of course he quickly put himself into a different position and I haven't felt him any more today but it gave me a little hope and reassurance.

I feel a little bit more if I'm laying still on my left side....then he feels like he's fluttering right beside my left hip.

@kboydbowman I can't ever feel crap when I'm on my side. I usually feel him when I'm on my back or scrunched up in a chair. I'm glad you found something that works for you. These kids need to cut us a break!

@lucyg00cy I also got the tdap which covers whooping cough and my husband and my mom, who will spend the most time with the baby, will also get a booster for it. It’s usually recommended every 10 years or when you have a possible tetanus exposure. My OB was actually annoyed I got my 10 year booster in October. The preference would be during pregnancy - not sure if she’ll recommend I get it again since it will be within the year; that was unclear.
@ashley35209 I have an anterior placenta and I have been feeling babe move like crazy internally either on my sides or low. Today we had a follow up ultrasound and found out he was head down. I was sitting and felt him kick my rib, I made my husband try to feel and he got a big kick to the hand. It was the first time we really felt him on the outside!
@lucyg00cy my midwives are saving vaccine convos for 3rd trimester. I would probably get the booster when I qualify also. My sister got covid last summer at 5 months pregnant and was miserable. She never got boosted and then her and baby got covid again when my niece was 2 months old. Not something I want to experience.
@pangolindrome I also second Lululemon - they are pricey but I have been rocking the same pair this whole pregnancy and since they are so stretchy will likely fit me after.
@lucyg00cy the TDAP vaccine (P=pertussis=whooping cough) is standard practice here in Canada and I got it sometime around the 28-30 week mark with my first son 😊 my OB recommended anyone around me get it as well. My husband already had it because of his work requirements and my parents got it because they were overdue (I believe you need it every 10 years?). It was a complete non-event. Sore spot at the sight for a couple of hours and that was about it.
@csardaszz it’s not so much that I’m nervous about getting a second booster, more that I want to do it at the “right” time to give myself & the baby the most protection. I have read that it’s really only effective for a short time so I’m waffling if I should wait until third trimester or right before/ after delivery vs right now. I just want to make a wise decision because I think you have to wait 6 months for another!
Also totally agree with the Lululemon Align suggestion — I just got a pair one size bigger but my regular ones still fit at 21 weeks and feel the most comfortable of all my leggings! I will say I prefer the thinner, single-lined colors versus the lighter colors that are double-lined and “squat proof” — the thinner material is just my preference for warmer weather & stretchiness!
Also rocking an anterior placenta and I can’t wait for more consistent movement! Definitely flutters on average once a day but not enough!!
@pangolindrome I can't speak for Lululemon (that's outside my price point), but I have never had a more comfortable, soft, or stretchy pair of leggings than these. I'm seriously in love with them and have 4 different pairs now. I don't think I'll ever buy something else! They do have them in different lengths, but I like the crop. Certain colors right now are only $12.95 with an extra 30% off using a code!
