@jgrodo my son is 22.5 months and it's perfect but I'd say even 18 would be fine! We nanny share with 2 girls who are 3 and 6 and the 3 of them have been using it this week for lunches and it has worked great:) I'd say it's super usable until at least 6, more depending on how tall your kid is. It's only $50 so we felt like it was a good investment!
Thanks everyone for celebrating my placenta news😄 I'm glad that's not a worry now.
@kalesix3 I second RTR. I actually love it! Also, Lulus has some pretty convertibile dresses that could be formal, I have a long one in a burgundy color and it would work great with a bump too.
@carrotsandpeas3 that is so helpful to know, thank you! I have no experience with Catholic weddings and I feel so out of my depth trying to imagine what everyone else will wear, the bride is a very close friend to both my partner and I, so I know how fancy she likes to dress, but also she's the bride so it doesn't have much bearing on what her guests wear haha. I have a deep fear of being overdressed and sticking out like a sore thumb when I already don't know anyone! I'm going to keep the options you linked in mind and definitely keep an open mind on the mauve one because I do absolutely love it.
@aefsparrow thank you! That is a really good thing to consider, the bride doesn't know I'm pregnant, but I think we're planning on telling her and our other friends after the A/S so that gives me plenty of time to text her a few options and ask for her opinion, she knows I have anxiety so I need all the help I can get haha!
@anitamargarita_82@kboydbowman thank you for the encouragement ❤️ I already feel it's going to be so hard to pick something from limited options when I'm in my third trimester and more of a whale than what I am now haha!
I feel better with all the advice and options you guys gave me! Thanks a ton! One more question, would a style like this be appropriate for a guest even though it's marked bridesmaid? I saw a similar style on rent the runway.. and I'm wondering if it's worth adding to the list of potential options or whether its way too fancy with the length especially.. screenshot bc I can't figure out how to link on mobile 🙈
Ughhh, DH just complained about a stomach ache and made himself throw up to feel better. He hasn’t gone anywhere so I’m guessing it was lunch today. 🤢 I had something a little different and I feel fine. He probably won’t be having that for a while!!
@kalesix3 I think that dress is really pretty and doesn't look too bridesmaid, especially if you keep it away from the wedding colors. @mamahosch hope whatever made him sick stays away from you!
@kalesix3 I Love that option! It’s so pretty and looks like it would be very comfortable in the summer. I went to a catholic wedding at like 32 weeks with DD. The reception ended up being at this ranch and they did a cocktail hour outside in June in Texas. I went with something A less little formal than this option and was so glad it was on the lighter side because the heat out here is no joke. I think I bought mine at ASOS and I refused it at my baby shower.
@mamahosch healthy vibes your way! @kalesix3 agreed with the comments on the dress, it seems easy and flowy but also elegant, just check on the wedding colors!
@morethanamama thank you, I'll check out Lulu's too, I have pregnancy brain so bad, I know that Lulu's has dresses and totally didn't remember that! I will definitely check on the colors, I don't think mauve is one of them, but I don't trust my memory lol @babycakesday that's a good point, I know how easily I overheated in the winter last pregnancy in my third trimester, and I keep looking at special event gowns and thinking about how I'm probably going to pass out in heavy fabric and sequins! July in DC is a humidity swamp 🤢 thankfully the farm the reception is at has some type of indoor venue option with A/C so that will help immensely!
Hello ladies! I did an intro thread yesterday evening but it felt a bit awkward to just start replying because of how late to the game I am. Mini intro- just found out I'm already 20 weeks pregnant. Zero symptoms plus irregular cycles plus bit of time warp in lock down plus not trying for a baby/my DS (he'll be 3 in August) took 2+ years and medical intervention meant I didn't even think about it until my friend texted me asking if I had tampons I could run her made me go huh. HCG blood draw Monday said 7-18 weeks. Ultrasound yesterday said 20+4 and turned into the anatomy scan (team blue) and doing an early GD 1 hour because I had GD with my DS (which I failed so have a 3 hour next week 😬). So - here I am! Anywho, I'm definitely feeling ridiculous for not knowing for so long and I'm winning some worst timing awards - but I'm also still excited. Terrified (I'm going to be having LO in the middle of my last year of law school), but excited. This is definitely steering away from "mini". I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.
Sorry I ghosted yesterday - we had a BUSY day! First, we took a modified tour of a potential daycare near my new office, and I was very impressed. We're holding off on submitting our application until we tour the other two daycares on our list, and until we know more about whether or not my mom will be moving here to be our nanny. It doesn't hurt to have our names on the list and then just cancel it once we know more about my mom's situation, but each place charges between $125-$150 per application, so that'll add up quickly and we want to know which way to go first, so we're on pause for a bit. But yeah, daycares have come a LONG way since I worked at one in high school. Much more structured and development-focused, and I was comforted to know that LO will have her own dedicated crib in the newborn/infant room that no other babies in there will use, the staff was really professional, they have an app we can use to communicate with them and view the room she will be in, etc. it's awesome.
After that, we went and traded in my 2014 Hyundai Sonata for a 2019 Santa Fe Limited. It's the tits, you guys. Fully loaded with AWD, panoramic sunroof, tons of cargo space, and (my favorite) tons of safety features. We had been researching SUVs for about two years now, because we have four large dogs and knew we'd need to upgrade to something larger once we started growing our family. We were torn between the Santa Fe and the Palisade, and the Kia Sorento or Telluride. Since we were already part of the Hyundai family, though, that's what we ultimately went with. The Palisade is super nice, but 1) we didn't want to go with a first-year model, so if we need to upgrade again, then that's what we'll go with once they've worked the kinks out and in case there are any recalls, and 2) we don't need something quite that large just yet. It's a behemoth SUV in comparison to my Sonata. Oh, and we brought our baby seat & base with us to ensure it fits properly, too.
Lastly, @kalesix3 MH's brother's wedding last summer was black tie at a country club in New England, and one of the bridesmaids was around 6 months pregnant at the time. She wore a beautiful gold sequined Badgley Mischka gown. I'm not sure if it was specifically maternity per se, but it fit nicely over her bump and she looked gorgeous. IIRC, she got it from Rent the Runway.
Welcome to the group @wineren! Glad you jumped on in!!! That is amazing! Are you still in shock?!
@babyodo That’s great you found a daycare you liked so well right off the bat! It’s a tough decision, hope it goes smoothly for you! Did you ask about waiting lists? You might have to apply at multiple places just to get on multiple waiting lists depending on how urgent or flexible your timing is. Where I live, waiting lists for infants are loooong.
@baseballismyfavoriteseason Oh, completely. I found out before I was even 4 weeks with DS so this is just super weird. And yesterday I knew there could be a chance I was pretty far along but I assumed based on my lack of symptoms I was still on the earlier side - nope! It definitely doesn't feel completely real (I keep double checking the ultrasound photos and hcg result). I have an anterior placenta this go-round so I haven't felt him move really either. I felt DS at 14 weeks.
@babyodo That's a crazy application fee. Where I live they're max maybe $50, but most don't have a fee. But it can also take almost a year or longer for an infant spot to open up. I'm didn't have a spot for DS until he was three months old and I got on 8 lists when I was only 8 weeks. (I am hoping my son's daycare will bump up new LO because they're siblings. 😬)
Ladies, feel free to talk me off being so pissed about what happened to me this morning. Pregnancy hormones are the worst.
Something silly happened this morning that rubbed me the wrong way. My friend
*Tw* She had a miscarriage 3 weeks ago *End tw*
sent me this CNN article titled "Covid-19 attacks the placenta in pregnant women". I actually almost got mad at someone else posting this last night (this other person's feed is basically CNN breaking news reposts, without any commentary, but I digress😑).
Anyways, I had already read the article and the contents are completely different from the sensationalism in the headline. Not saying the concern isn't valid but ..the study is so small. I just would never send a pregnant friend that considering what is going on - especially without a comment, just a plain link. I know she is coming from a good place, but it still kind of annoyed me. I know things are super rough for her at the moment but I also don't want her to project negativity on me because even though I'm always happy-go-lucky I already have my anxieties to take care of too. I don't know why, it just rubbed me the wrong way. I don't talk about my pregnancy at all with her because I know it's hard already😔 am I exaggerating? I'm over it already, just rubbed me the wrong way as I said.
@morethanamama I'd be upset too. I don't want anyone sending me that stuff, to be honest. I'd maybe be okay with DH doing it but anyone else, no. And you clearly are being considerate of your friend's feelings. I wouldn't confront her because I'm generally not confrontational anyway, but also because she honestly may not understand you'd be upset. Maybe she thinks she's being helpful, even.
Anyway, tl;dr I would also be upset/annoyed but I wouldn't say anything to the friend about it.
@wineren welcome to the club! I loved your mini into, what a crazy first ultrasound appointment turned A/S and then glucose test on top of it all, my head would have been spinning after all that! Here's hoping you pass the three hour and start to feel some movement soon, it will probably feel more real then!
@babyodo thank you! I'm so nervous to try to get a non maternity gown because of the time in advance I'll need to order to be able to get another option if I outgrow it, and also I have no idea how huge I'll be by July but I just looked at a RTR tryon with non maternity dresses and the options definitely seem really decent so I'm feeling more confident about the decision!
My neighbor just gave us a bag the size of a laundry bag full of baby clothes in all different sizes! Some have never been worn! There wasn’t one piece we didn’t like. Now let’s just hope they are the size we need during the appropriate season. It’s hard to guess in Southern California.
She also gave me a big bag of maternity clothes. Many either don’t flatter my body type or are a little tight (and I know that will only get worse), but I’m going to keep them since I don’t know how they’ll look soon.
This week we also went to my boyfriend’s dad’s to pick up a vintage pinball machine his dad has had since the 70s. My boyfriend is so excited to be able to share it with his daughter in the future. It melts my heart when he talks about it.
@animalplantrescuer if we're close to the same size we could swap around a bit (I'm SoCal, too) - I've inherited a few things that are too big.
Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
@animalandplantrescuer that’s so cool! I love vintage things and the thought of sharing things we had as a kid with our children. Which is funny, I have been cleaning out our nursery to get it organized because for a while it was a catch-all room when we moved in. I have two American Girl dolls from when I was 5, and have saved them for my own future daughter and they were in a storage box with all their accessories which I cleaned up and washed this week. so I’m really hoping next week we find out it’s a girl so she can have them! I even was able to find a retired cultural American Girl doll I have been searching for YEARS for online in almost perfect condition recently at a better price than what she should have sold it for honestly.... long story short, I can’t wait to pass them on someday!!
@mamahosch I grew up poor and didn’t have American Girl but I started buy stuff for my DD when she was about a year old. She’s got bitty baby and most of bitty’s accessories and she loves them. She’s also got Luciana for when she’s a bit older. I really loved Luciana’s concept and she likes and is about. I bought all of her stuff and my husband couldn’t help himself and bought Luciana’s space station for her as well. We’ve got all of that tucked away in our master bedroom closet. Currently my DD is obsessed with horses so she’s got the horse coral and 3 horses. I’ve spent way to much money on American Girl.
@anitamargarita_82 it’s definitely expensive!!! But I love what they stand for and how diverse they are. They are even more expensive today than when we were kids because Mattel bought them out. My mom was a single mom and didn’t have much money either as a dishwasher so I didn’t have much money growing up either, but I guess she saved every penny so I could have American girl dolls! I think I got them on my 5th and 6th birthdays. One was the American Girl Today that you can make look like you, and the other is Bitty Baby who I loved!
@mamahosch I love American Girl Dolls! I had Felicity and I'm pretty sure she's still in my dad's storage. I think l got her in like 1995 for Christmas. I had all the books too and I would get the catalogue and spend hours going through it. Good luck on your A/S!
@wineren that’s the year I got my first one for Christmas too! I love Felicity, but Kirsten was my favorite of the cultural/historical dolls! I looked for YEARS trying to find one with all her accessories in almost perfect condition online because she’s retired, but most were selling for $400 or higher, unless they had something wrong with them. Ironically I stumbled upon one without even looking for it on purpose online for $130 with all of her original accessories and books. Perfect condition and pre-Mattel (Pleasant Company stamped on her neck). I wanted to cry. and thank you!! I go in June 3rd. Fingers crossed for a little girl 🤞🏻 Even though we will love baby either way!
@mamahosch I always wanted an American Doll, but they were too expensive for my parents as well. I’m crossing my fingers for you that you’re having a girl.
I just found my Polly Pocket that I thought I had gotten rid of. I also saved all of my Breyer horses (although I only had 4), and my favorite cowgirl dress. I remember thinking as a child how I would save them for my daughter someday, so it makes me really excited that I actually get to pass that down.
@kboydbowman I will private message you on here about that.
I had Molly—this was back when they only had the historical dolls, but she looked the most like me: stick straight brown hair and glasses. 😂
@animalandplantrescuer Did you have the itty bitty Polly pockets?? The dolls were like the size of my fingernails, but by the time my sister got them they were larger.
My mom still has my old Playmobil doll house up in our rafters. We’re saving it for someday when we hopefully have a girl—not because I don’t want my boys playing with dolls 🙄 but because they will DESTROY it. 😂 They’re still too little for it right now anyway, but I am looking forward to the day we can bring it home and set it up!
You guys, every day I use this app, I hate it more. It’s now forcing me to log back in EVERY TIME I come back to the community page. It’s SUPER annoying. 😩
@baseballismyfavoriteseason On my phone The Bump updated last night- it is harder to navigate to the community area (menu in the upper left, then the arrow next to pregnancy, then scrolling down to the bottom for community) but it solved the login issue I was having yesterday 🤷🏻♀️
@baseballismyfavoriteseason Molly was my 2nd favorite! and I had the itty bitty Polly Pockets! I’m surprised I never lost any of them when playing, they were so small lol. I think they ended up in a garage sale years ago.
@baseballismyfavoriteseason yeah I have to log in when I open the app and then by the time I get to the community page I'm logged out again, such a pain. But hey we got a new color scheme I guess /s 🙄 Just ranting here, but someone on another group I'm in just called me a liar for bringing up the preservative free vitamin K shot for another poster who asked about it. Apparently doctors just lied to me about that and I'm dumb and believed them. I literally googled it and got a whole page of results. But the poster didn't bother to verify their point, nope, just immediately accused me of lying. I wasn't even advocating for it, I was just telling the woman what options there are from an unbiased viewpoint. I really don't get people.
@animalandplantrescuer@kboydbowman I'm also in Southern California hand me downs are the best! I still have a bunch to go through and then I'll donate the rest. @MJDsquared thank you, I felt a bit more validated:) I actually told her it bothered me a bit especially because the article was not really about the headline! She said she's just in a negative space and I understand that. She posted the article on Facebook with a comment like "pregnant friends, please be careful" and one of her pregnant friends who read it literally said the same thing I said and got pretty upset 😂 so yeah...
I didn't grow up in the US so I'll admit that the American Girl doll thing is something I just recently discovered 😂 given how much they cost, they will have to be a grandparent gift lol.
However y'all are making me wanna ask my mom if she still has some of my toys.
Y'all make me feel old. Half of the toys you're talking about didn't exist when I was a child. Also, unpopular opinion, but American Girl dolls are ridiculously and pointlessly expensive and not a particularly good toy for kids compared to other much less expensive options. I much prefer things that have at least some degree of educational component.
Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
@kboydbowman I totally get that! From a preschool teacher perspective I agree and also disagree with you. I am all for educational toys, but I think dolls (no matter what brand or price) are educational from a cognitive learning standpoint. Sociodramatic play is a large part of learning in preschool and we have to have dolls out all year long in our dramatic play center. Kids learn lots of things playing with them, boys or girls! 😊
I wanted an American Girl doll when I was younger, but my parents said that they were too expensive. Only the historical dolls existed at the time. I did enjoy reading the books, and I liked looking at the catalogues with the dolls and all of their accessories. My younger sister ended up years later getting Kirsten and Felicity. I didn't realize how much they are still worth. With all of this talk about American Girl dolls, I decided to look it up online today. I barely recognized them. There were a massive number of dolls, and the historical dolls were mostly new to me.
I plan on passing down a kid sized tea set to my daughter. It is a really nice set that came with a little wicker picnic basket.
Since an anterior placenta doesn't really come with medical concerns, do they always tell you if you have one? They didn't say I had one during the NT scan, but with DD I could feel strong kicks that I could see from outside at 18 weeks. Here I am at 20 weeks and I feel just very faint movement and only when I'm sitting or laying down very still and paying attention.
My AS is on Tuesday so I will be able to ask them at that time, but in the meantime I'm just curious if anyone knows if they always mention that.
@kboydbowman Do you have any fond toys that you remember? I don’t think we’re much different in age, so there might be some I remember as well.
@MJDsquared They didn’t tell me exactly during my NT scan, but the ultrasound tech had a hard time getting the images she needed, and kept saying it was because the baby was behind the placenta.
Re: May Randoms
Thanks everyone for celebrating my placenta news😄 I'm glad that's not a worry now.

@kalesix3 that looks like a beautiful dress! If it's not in the same.color as the wedding party id think you'd be good.

I will definitely check on the colors, I don't think mauve is one of them, but I don't trust my memory lol
