Hi friends! Sorry for the radio silence. I’ve been having good days and bad days still so sometimes it’s been too painful to check in. Today is a good day though!

my SO and I narrowed down our list of donors and see the clinic next week to narrow a bit further. Towards the end I started getting overwhelmed so hopefully we selected some good ones. I feel like my criteria weren’t particularly strict... someone who looked vaguely like me and SO, had good, thoughtful answers, good understanding of the ramifications, more introverted than not (we are both introverts), seemingly curious about the world, not too much more than that 🤷‍♀️

@emmasemm question for you as our resident DOR expert... I’ve found a couple of articles that indicate HRT can restore some ovarian function to FX carriers. Any thoughts on this? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6278244/

I don’t like to spam here all the time with the PG talk as I know some days that’s really hard to read

@lucyb1954 I’ve read a few very small non blind trials and to me it seems in some cases it could help but not in others, but also the improvement could have been coincidental as trials were very small. It also depends how they are defining HRT each time. Some I read were doing little more than a long agonist or a MDL protocol with estrogen priming. In which case we know those can work well for quite a few different patient groups! It also depends on what the baseline is - for patients not ovulating alone it seemed to not have a huge effect - but for those who had low antral follicle numbers it could help increase those... but it’s all “could” and “maybe” as again number of patients is so small each time...
What I found is with so few patients with a diagnosis seeking treatment you basically have to decide what you will a guinea pig for...

Had our 36 week OB appointment today - all good with the NST and ultrasound! We’re closely monitoring the placental health and blood flow to uterus and umbilical cord so will go back again next week for what could be my last OB appointment! My orders are just to rest, drink and eat plenty! She’s still transverse so good thing we have the planned c section already!

@Imajin99 @lucyb1954 - Everything is going well. Had my last ultrasound with the RE today. Baby is measuring 10w1d. Sonographer said she thinks it's a boy. Lol.
I go to an OB this week. Not sure I'm keeping her but at least I'll get my NIPT in this week.

@lucyb1954 sounds like you have a plan. Glad you had a good day.I thought I remembered you saying DE was reasonably priced where you lived. That's good!

@lucyb1954 Thats great to hear you are narrowing down the donors. When I was looking, someone on the forum said to pick someone you would want to be friends with because you will never find your double. I thought that was great advice. We gotta celebrate these good days because we have so many down days on this journey! Happy to hear you are feeling good!

@31magnolia. How exciting!!! Getting closer to the magical 12 weeks! Boy oh boy, this is exciting! hehe. I think no matter what, us IVF women are going to have anxieties all the way up until our babes are in our arms, and then that starts a whole host of other anxieties and things to worry about! One day at a time and celebrate each day as a victory in moving closer to your miracle baby.

As for me, I am waiting on my period....on day 27 of my cycle, so I hope it is any day now! Crazy thing happened though....we had sex on day 12 of my cycle. I never ovulate till day 17-21 so I didn't think anything of it, but sure enough, on day 14, I ovulated. So I was convinced I was pregnant and this was going to alter our Prague plans. So on day 8, like a crazy person, I took a test and sure enough ,there was a faint line....but dark enough that there was no mistaking it. Same with the next day. I waited 2 days then tested again and the line was gone, so looks like a chemical. I think it was a good thing because it just validated that my eggs don't have the staying power and this is why we are going with donor eggs. So once Aunt Flo comes, we leave for Prague 10 days later! ITs soooooo soon!

@31magnolia Glad everything is going well, I totally understand the anxiety however this is so great and hope you have some moments where you can relax and be happy.

@hopeful_mom hope you’re doing well and thanks for checking in. I am in better spirits now as I have accepted my next journey that will lead to my success. I am really contemplating going overseas and I have narrowed it down to a few clinics in Greece and Spain. I have scheduled calls with them coming up to understand the process. However I have also been in touch with Elite IVF about the process in Canada and I will choose this route if I find the overseas too cumbersome. Will be seeing if my clinic will support me as there is a few things to do before I would go. Hoping for some tips from @andreamm31when she returns.

@emmasemm This is so exciting for you! Cannot wait to hear the news of when you meet your precious baby girl! Please keep us posted.

Hi everyone! @emmasemm so exciting for you! When's your c-section scheduled for? Thanks for being so sensitive to us

I'm still having good days and bad days. After my last cycle I did ten days of progesterone but still no cycle. I went into the clinic for an U/S and it seems that I either have two mature follies or two estrogen producing cysts. Wish I knew which they were! If I don't get my period in a couple of weeks, I'll be starting HRT. I may be in denial but not totally giving up on the prospect of OE sometime. But DE is perfect for me right now.

SO and I went into the clinic yesterday and selected our top 3. I was not so picky about looks but SO insisted he needed someone who reminded him of me. Several of them he nixed because he thought they looked like his Mormon cousins! lol. (apologies to any Mormon ladies on here, SO was not treated well by Mormon family members). So now waiting to hear back from them to see who is available to cycle. Fingers crossed one of them can cycle immediately.

@Imajin99 how are you? Any decisions on a clinic? How are you feeling about things? I'm so hoping we can join a PAIF board together

@andreamm31 so exciting! Do you know if you're implanting a female or male embryo? My best to you for transfer, I've never been to Prague but my mom has, and says that it's truly an amazing city. So enjoy yourself outside of transfer!

@31magnolia how you doing girl? Feeling okay after discharge from your RE? How far along are you now?

@lucyb1954. We are not PGS testing, so it will be a surprise! But of course, when we do our genetic testing at the 12 week mark, we will for sure ask to know the sex! we are so excited for a vacation! We really need it!

I'm doing fine. I'm now 11 weeks. I have the NIPT tomorrow. There wasn't anyplace that would do it sooner. So I'm keeping fingers and toes crossed that everything goes well. I then do the NT scan next week. I do really like the OB I found. I just don't like the hospital she's affiliated with. So we'll see. My anxiety has gotten a tad bit better, so that's good!

Whelp, it's starting to seem real now...my coordinator reached out to our top donors and our second choice is able to cycle now. She wasn't my top top choice, but I liked her answers to the personal questions and she was someone we agreed upon - she's a hard worker, put herself through school, likes to read...I know it seems petty but she has straight hair and my SO has straight hair and I was hoping for a donor with curly hair like me. But I do feel good about her. She's cycled before and had a good result, so I know she's dependable (our third choice we liked but had never cycled before which was making me nervous about reliability because it is a big commitment).

I'll know more tomorrow about timing -- she was on vacation today and couldn't speak at length with the coordinator but they're going to talk tomorrow. I hope she's on BCP so we can get a move on

Happy and sad all at the same time over here. It's still a lot, I'm still processing, but more good days than bad and the sadness (and sometimes anger at stupid life for dealing me these cards) is a lot less.

Lots o' hugs ladies. Can't wait to hear the next update from you @emmasemm and hoping that this year is going to be my year, friends.

@andreamm31 hope you’re on your way to Prague by now! Do enjoy the city whilst you’re there as it’s beautiful. And if you’re looking for a day or short trip, Nuremberg is only about 3 hours by car and easy to reach by train and is well worth a visit too! (I lived there for 5 years)

AFM we had a bit of a scare the last few days because we couldn’t get good measurements and they were worried about IUGR - but we got what we needed finally yesterday afternoon and all looks ok again! So we keep to the plan to evict her next week!

lucyb1954 - That's awesome that one of your top choices is available! Glad to hear you're working through all the emotions that go along with this; sorry I don't have any magic words. I had to work through all the regret, anger and sadness too but finally got to a really good place. I think it's about getting to the point of not being angry that you were dealt these cards but rather accepting that this is your unique path and trusting that somebody (whether that's God or the universe or some other higher power to you) has a perfect plan for you and a perfect little family coming your way even if we humans aren't capable of totally understanding the whys and hows or the fairness of it all.

andreamm31 - Wow, sounds like things are moving along for you! Can't wait to hear the updates! How does it work in Czech, do you do fresh or frozen eggs, fresh or frozen transfer, etc?

We have officially told all of our immediate family members now about our use of DE to conceive our baby (our family is spread out and I wanted these to be in person conversations, so it's taken a while). I had built it up in my mind to be this huge thing but everyone was totally accepting of it and made it clear that it makes no difference to them. It's a good feeling.

Wow things are picking up for our group and lots of exciting things going on. I am still researching a bit of the overseas DE but starting to realize that never have travelled to any of these parts if it will leave me more confused and stressed. I had a chat with one of the programs here and they were really good and comforting. They are guaranteeing 4 blastocysts so it sounds quite promising. I meet with my RE and the fertility counsellor and get started on the process. I will be out East for a month for family wedding festivities in May and we hope to have the DE process in place for when we get back home or travel overseas at that time.

@lucyb1954 I hear you on the good and bad days but really starting to get excited, I was happy to get rid of all my medication paraphernalia and knowing this process is getting close and putting is at 60-70% success rate makes me really happy.

@emmasemm. We definetly want to take a trip over to Germany while we are there. I will add Nuremberg to the list! We are hoping to do a few long day trips by train. Hubby wanted to rent a car, but I think it will be less stressful for both of us if we sit back and enjoy the scenery on the train and can both zone out. We both get too stressed out when the other drives. Talk about control freaks! haha. We leave Monday night! I cant wait! I started packing today. My day 10 ultrasound looked great yesterday, so we are good to go! Wishing you so much luck on your upcoming due date! How amazing!! So very happy for you!

@c-town18. We are doing a fresh transfer. Then we will freeze the rest for our future babies. We find out Monday which day is the actual retrieval. Right now we are told between Wednesday and Friday of next week. But we get the official retrieval date on Monday morning. I did an ERA here and know I need an extra 24 hours of progesterone, so that is a relief knowing our timing should be perfect as long as the embryo is a good one! They don't suggest doing PGS testing with their young healthy donors....and that makes me nervous, but I gotta trust this will all work out. Our transfer will be either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week (first week in March). That is amazing that your family is so supportive. I know its such a scary thing to do and you have so much courage for being open and honest. Good for you!

Imajin99. You gotta do whatever keeps you calm and less stressed. Initially, that was our reasoning for wanting to proceed here with donor eggs despite the extraordinary cost associated with it. But then I remembered in college, I wanted to study abroad in Australia, but I was poor and it was a lot of paperwork and things to figure out. But I had my heart set on it, so I just took one task at a time to make it work. And magically I discovered since my room and board at my college was way above what it is in Australia, I got a check back for $3000 right before I left for Australia and it paid for my whole trip and I was so happy I went. I kinda started looking at this process abroad like that. Just take it one step at a time and don't get too overwhelmed. And honestly, for us, it has been such a smooth and easy process. The hardest part was waiting for me to get my period and then booking our flights last minute (which meant they were super expensive. $3300 vs $1500 if we booked months in advance). My RE here was happy to do a monitoring ultrasound for me for $250. She also ordered whatever meds my doctor wanted me on. I was very lucky that she was so cool....but I spent tens of thousands of dollars at her practice, so I think its the least she could do. I found the process pretty easy and communication has been a breeze...probably better than the communication with my clinic here! I also had a hard time looking at other women's pictures and knowing so much about the donor....its helping me to not know so much now and not see a picture. There are other countries in Europe that are similarly priced as Prague that have more open policies on donors and not so anonymous. But for us, we liked the anonymity although we plan on being open about the fact that we used donor eggs with our future babies. I think most importantly is just keeping yourself less stressed and calm during this highly stressful time as you figure out what you are planning on doing. And we are all here to support you whichever route you choose!

@lucyb1954. I read someones post about them choosing a donor who did not have curly hair and she did, and she ended up having a baby with curls! I think genetics are so funny and we never know what we are going to get. Also so amazing that you liked what she had to say and she is a proven donor! Cant wait to hear how it goes. Maybe we will be on very similar time frames! I find that now that I am about to go to Prague, my sadness has lifted and my excitement is taking over. I know it is still there and I will have my moments of grief continuing on throughout this process, but with time, it is lessening and not stinging so bad. Grief isn't linear, so its totally normal to feel like your emotions are on this never ending rollercoaster. Have you tried Healing Touch or Reiki?? I swear those energy therapies are helping to keep me sane...along with acupuncture! cant wait to hear when you start cycling!

@andreamm31 oh I’m so so excited for you! Dresden is really close and direct by train. And it’s beautiful. And Regensburg. Vienna would be more a day flight - in case you want to visit one of the cities on the Danube (and there is enough to do two days there if you stay overnight). Ask your hotel about “Flix bus” as a really cheap option to Nuremberg or Regensburg.

andreamm31 - FWIW, we did the PGS testing on 8 of our DE embryos and 8/8 came back normal. I think JamieH2000 mentioned that she had 100% normal of hers that were tested too. Of course that's not always the case with DE embryos, but hopefully that calms your nerves a little bit knowing that at least the odds are in your favor.

@lucyb1954 Hey Girl!!!! Great that you have narrowed down your list, that is exciting! And one of them is ready to cycle now?! FANTASTIC!!! I’m doing fine, due May 17! Also, i hear you on the details, like curly vs straight etc. the genetic loss is real, but just remember, genetics are really funny and you just never know what you are going to get even when you are having a baby with your own eggs. I know that isn’t super helpful but you are gonna love that little one so fiercely they will end up being the exact baby you were meant to have. That is what i hear from all the donor moms that came before us anyway:) And even when pregnant, there will be so much talk about ‘what they will look like’ or comments made comparing you to them as they grow from coworkers etc. I just always say, i dunno, we’ll see, but i bet she’ll look look and act like herself.

@andreamm31 i’m sad to read about your chemical pregnancy but very glad that you are off to Prague!! This is an exciting time and I can’t wait to hear more!! Woohoo!!!! Retrieval is this coming week right? amazing. I did PGS test and didn’t have the outcome that some ladies here and that i know outside of here have had with donor egg, but i found that to not be the norm, so i would feel positive and just put your trust into this. Plus your DH has great sperm! I think that makes a BIG difference!! Donor egg is a new ballgame. It's a game changer, and this is going to work for you!

@imajinn99 guaranteeing 4 blasts sounds great! I’m glad it looks like that program is a good fit for you I was the same when it came to figuring out travel with the whole thing, i know for some people that is a perfect fit and can even be a fun trip, but i don't travel well when it's just for fun, let alone when it has other stuff wrapped up into a trip so just wasn't a good fit for me. I also specifically wanted a donor to be accessible so wanted them in the Country. that is just my personal preference! Glad this option is looking promising for you!

Well ladies... the time has come for me to make the announcement we all long to make!

Holly Reese (our surname starts with H) and was born at 0919 (CET) on 24th February 2020, at 38+2 weighing 7lbs 1oz and 20 inches long! Via planned c section. The faces and noises she makes are just mesmerizing. The way she smells, how soft she is... just amazing. She even slept 4 hours the last two nights (in my arms as they prefer skin to skin here in the first weeks). DH has totally mastered the “sleep when the baby sleeps” skill. All her tests are coming back great and she is such a relaxed little lady who we are completely in love with.
C section was relatively smooth (just some vomiting and a little bit of extra blood loss which they handled efficiently). Recovery is - well recovering from major abdominal surgery... not the most pleasant but also could be a lot worse!
We are hoping to go home end of the week if all is well

sorry I have been mia! Work is crazy. I had a hysterscopy last week to remove some small polyps. Tomorrow is baseline for the ERA cycle and ERA is 3 weeks away, assuming no lining issues! Hopefully not. Then gonna take April off and hopefully prep for an early June transfer!!

Update! We had the retrieval yesterday here in Prague and my donor had 9 eggs retrieved, today we had 6 embryos cooking! Just praying that most of them make it to day 5. We are trying to keep ourselves busy exploring and doing activities! Ill let you guys know how it goes on Monday for my transfer!

For those of you that have done vaginal progesterone, how do you know If enough is absorbing. I have so much coming out every time I wipe or on my liner. I am trying my best to push it up as high as I can, but I have all this anxiety that Im losing more than im absorbing. Any suggestions or thoughts?
