@blackcat01 I was on Pinterest last night and read off a list of like 500 baby boy names and hated 499 of them ๐Ÿ™ƒ. Itโ€™s going to be a fun 6 months trying to figure it out.

@kbrown2385 I can sort of relate. Iโ€™m just hating on all the names for some reason! But I feel for you since you have to think of two! Maybe the names will just come to us if we stop reading them, at least thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m hoping. There are many names that I donโ€™t mind, but once I read it on a list, Iโ€™m like NOPE! Lol

@kbrown2385 we had a really hard time naming my youngest. The first was easy we used a family name. We had three boys names picked out and it came down to being in the delivery room pushing to decide.ย

Currently Iโ€™m hating every boy name. We donโ€™t think we are going to find out gender since this is possibly our last baby but if we cave it will be to make naming this kid easier ๐Ÿ˜‚
Gabriella, Olivia, Josephine aka Josie, Ava, Claire are my current possible girl contenders - but Iโ€™ve never needed a girl name yet...

@clee5711 Sadie, Natalie and Audrey are girl names I like...and as of right now we arenโ€™t having a girl ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ. Iโ€™m with you on hating all boy names. The thought of coming up with 4 is stressing me out. It was so easy to name ds. His first name is something Iโ€™ve always loved and his middle name is dhโ€™s first name. I have to kick dh into gear. Hopefully he will come up with some winners.ย
  • Options
@kbrown2385 Definitely tell DH to get his butt in gear. After all, it is his fault you are having a boy ;)

@biolprof ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ ive definitely said that once or twiceย

@kbrown2385 our heritage was a strong deciding factor for us. DH aid half German and Italian so we decided for a boy to go with a German name. For me Iโ€™m mostly Greek Italian and Native American so we decided for a girl to go for a Greek name. That helped with the overwhelm over all the names out there.ย

@kbrown2385 - I'm running into the same thing with DH. He's shot down all the boy names that I like, and only has offered Jean Luc (Picard) ๐Ÿ™„ We have a few contenders for girl names but neither of us are in love with any of them. I decided to table it until we find out the sex.
  • Options
@marebear15 I get what you mean by table-ing it for now.

To be honest I'm not even thinking of any names yet, my feelings to certain names change so much I'll wait till probably 3rd trimester to find some names that we like. If one does pop into my head I'll write it into my Ovia app. We didn't give DD her name until after she was born and it wasn't even one of the first names on our list that we had, just what looked like it fit her best.

    Easton for a boy.ย

    No clue for a girl.ย

Girl names have been hard for us since we started having kids. We have a son named Hunter and a daughter named Rylan now.
  • Options
@kbrown2385 - I just read list after list after list on the internet, and send the ones I like along to H.ย  And we tend to stick with Italian lists, because his family is pretty strongly Italian (plus at this point I want something that goes along with our other 3 kids' names).ย  But thinking of one for a 4th girl is killing me!ย  I don't love any name really.ย  And any one I like H doesn't like.ย  ย  Every other baby has been named super early.ย  I like being able to call them by name.ย  It helps me bond.ย  But we are going to fail with this one, I'm afraid.ย

@allslee My husband and I are the opposite- we've always had trouble coming up with boy names. Luckily we're having a second girl!

I have fallen in love with the name pronounced Keer-A but am conflicted on how to spell it as there are many variations. ย The traditional Greek spelling (and my personal favorite) is Kyra, but I know it often gets mispronounced rhyming with Tyra. ย Then there is Kira, but I think that has the same problem. ย There is also Kiera or Keira, but both can be mispronounced as Ki-err-a which I hate! ย I am reluctant to give a name that will give her issues like this since I have suffered this fate my entire life, but this is seriously the only name my husband and I can agree on fully. ย It also goes well with her middle name which will be Carson, her sister McKenna and our last name has a "y" as the second letter like the Kyra spelling. ย Thoughts?ย

@DalexRN I like Kyra, though I do think Kira would be pronounced correctly more often in my mind. But I have a common name and mine is often mispronounced so whatever you do, you can't save someone from name troubles!
  • Options
@DalexRN just to add to the mix, the irish spelling of the name is Ciara. Whatever way you choose to spell it, its a very pretty name.
  • Options
@DalexRN spelling it Kiera would have me saying it correctly. My name is very simple but people still manage to f it up from time to time. Go with what you like best!ย

@DalexRN, of all the spellings you mentioned, the only one that that I'd naturally pronounce the way you prefer is Kira. Beautiful name BTW!
  • Options
@DalexRN I agree that Kira is the way I would be most likely to pronounce it correctly. It's a lovely name and, I don't know if you're already aware, but also the name of a super awesome, fierce female character in Star Trek deep space nine, Kira Nerys. (Yes, I'm a Trek fan) Of course, if you love it spelled Kyra, then go with what you love. But, I think your first instinct is right and people will rhyme it with Tyra. So it just comes down with what's more important. What you love or how other people will interpret it.ย

@DalexRN one of my childhood friendโ€™s name was Kira. Her parents actually pronounced it in some other way than how you want it pronounced, but everyone else kept pronouncing it as your preferred way (Keer-a). Because of that, they finally got frustrated enough and decided to change her name pronunciation to Keer-a. I think you would be fine keeping it Kira, or as @kbrown2385 said, Kiera if you want to be sure no one messes it up.ย

@DalexRN I love the traditional Irish spelling that @leprechaunlady pointed out: Ciara.ย

We know that we are having a girl. Before we even got pregnant we loved the name Jean (two of our grandmothers are named Jean). I really want Jean Anne (Anne is my mom's name; my middle name is her mom's name, so I like the tradition), but I have to convince DH. I also just like how it sounds.

Question: expecting a baby girl in January and my husband and I were set on a name (Talia) but just googled it together with our last name and the first and only thing that comes up is the site of a pornstar with the same exact name! Is this too terrible to keep the name? I hate the thought of ppl googling my daughter and getting this as the result :(, but then again, I really donโ€™t want to let some porn star ruin our choice! Thoughts???
  • Options
@kiwios eek not sure but maybe it's too close for comfort?ย
  • Options
@kiwios it really depends on how uncomfortable you are with it, i think it would put me off a little personally but others may not feel the same.

My husband is stuck on James Tiberius for a boy name. Would anyone side eye that name? I'm hoping I get a compromise and do James Theodore because then he would still have James T.
  • Options
@marebear15 I don't think I would side eye that name. It's just a latin name and it's a middle name. If it was the first name I would side eye it haha but otherwise have fun with the middle name :) Theodore would be a great compromise though!

@marebear15 Trekies will like go nuts in a good way over the name. But I doubt anyone outside of the fandom will pick up on it.ย

@marebear15 I wouldnโ€™t sweat over it unless you absolutely hate it. Itโ€™s a middle name so most people wonโ€™t know it anyway. Personally I think it sounds nice.ย

@c1kc1kpol1cn1k @stashattack @kbrown2385 - I really don't mind the name, I'm just not sure about naming my kid a character from a fandom. Any fandom. You know what I mean? I really wouldn't mind the James T. because that's a very subtle nod, but it's not his *actual* name.
  • Options
@marebear15 I must be so out of touch since I literally didn't realize the name came from a character from a fandom hahaha sorry!

@marebear15 id be a little reluctant about the middle name but then again people who dont know star trek wont get it anyways ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ
  • Options
@marebear15 I agree that only Trekkies will get it,ย  so I wouldn't worry about anyone side eyeing the name. However, if the idea of naming your son after a character bothers you, I think Theodore is a perfect compromise as yes,ย  it's still a nod, but not his actual name.ย

Side note: a friend of mine let her husband choose their son's name Logan and it wasn't until after the fact he admitted it was actually for Wolverine ๐Ÿ˜

@marebear15 James T. is better than Jean Luc, so at least you're making progress!ย
