Also hard eye roll to anyone calling me lazy with the amount of student loan debt I spent the first decade of adulthood slaying. My Baby Boomer parents were self-made, but they never had to contend with student loan debt while graduating into a crashed economy. I've earned my avocado toast!

I’m a millennial too (1990). I don’t feel like I fall under people’s assumptions of what a millennial is at all. I had almost 75k of student debt that I paid off in 5 years, I worked hard, got married, bought a house, etc... I do love avocado toast though so maybe I’ll accept the label.

I agree with you guys- I don’t feel like I fall into assumptions either of laziness, entitled, etc...but I dooooo love avocado toast and local coffee shops/restaurants!

@lulu1180 We did a generations workshop here too, and the thing that really resonated with me was that the younger generations are a product of the older ones. Like, the baby boomers were the product of the "Greatest Generation" and only ever really saw their mothers, and their fathers worked to provide for the family and did little to no parenting, and they were expected to be contributing family members of the household at a very early age. So, when they grew up and had kids of their own, they decided they didn't want to be that way for their children, and raised their children in a way that allowed them to be more like children, and then so on and so forth. So as much as the older generations love to complain about the younger ones, the younger ones are ultimately a product of how the older ones raised them.

@mercury94 - exactly! My life is so different from my parents' when they were my age because the world/country/economy are completely different. The only people who make significantly more than they would have 30 years ago are the big-BIG bosses (and their salaries are totally out of control). On top of stagnant pay we have way more student debt and healthcare costs. But somehow we're expected to save for retirement, buy a home, and have an emergency fund in the exact same way they did?

I once heard someone refer to us born in those crossover gen, mid-80s as the "Oregon Trail" generation. Basically, those few years we played Oregon Trail in 'computer class' in grade school. I like that way of referring to myself.

@inthewoods23 I also gravitate to the peggies. But, alas, I am a bitter hag who enjoys bursting people's bubbles and sharing a bit of reality with them. Plus, it provides a great place for some therapeutic anger output...

I always feel concerned when some of the grads don’t do a check in.
Literaturedink (I believe that’s the right username) hasn’t been on since January last I checked. And I haven’t read an update from harrierwife or ballsofmeat.
I’m sure they’re just busy and not able to check in but it sucks they moved to that private group.

Hey guys! I'm here! Just had a long weekend, and I don't normally Bump unless I'm at the office. Also down with some sort of cold/flu/ear infection that I'm going into the doctor's today for. But everything is fine with the pregnancy.
Thanks for all the concern, ladies. I feel really loved. And next time I'll have to get on the stupid mobile app to check in.

P.S. I'm a cusper too, just on the other end of the Millennial. I somewhat jive with the Gen Z crowd since I'm super thrifty and the recession made a huge impact on my ability to get a job in high school. My three Gen Z siblings also keep me current on the lingo and apps that are cool.

Edit: Also ballofmeat just had her baby but has abandoned The Bump (including private group) after the whole incident of banning because of the PG.

I am sooooooo late to this but I've only ever heard 'out of pocket' (aside from paying OOP) to mean like acting crazy, slang-wise. My SILs say it alllll the time (or they did for a while, anyway).

Also a Millenial (1990) and I just roll my eyes when people complain about us.

I also fall under the Millennial category (born in 1989). It's absolutely wild to me the difference between myself and some coworkers that are only a few years younger than me! I played Oregon Trail, Sega, all the Nintendo consoles and mostly listen to classic rock. I have worked and paid for everything since I've been 15. Paid for my own school, cars, wedding, etc. It was kind of funny because I went to school in a very wealthy township and got made fun of because I was the "poor kid". Wouldn't have it any other way, though!

Ugh, I kind of hate today. Conversation with co-worker (who I really like, so it’s not that she’s generally annoying) about my recent 20 pound weight loss. *TW*

Co-worker: “Watch you’ll get pregnant now and gain it all back.” Totally proud of myself for having the courage to tell her that I can’t get pregnant without fertility treatments, but still frustrated. It never ceases to surprise me when people don’t realize how hurtful comments about pregnancy can be.

Also, during that conversation, the 2 currently pregnant co-workers were discussing maternity clothes nearby.
