I'm not sure why TB isn't let me search our thread, but have we had a discussion on mattresses yet? That is one thing I am struggling to decide on. If we've done one, let me know!
This thread has been great the last few days. Thanks for all of the awesome information on swaddling and SIDS, ladies! I have a lot of researching to do this summer!
This is another topic I'm interested in @kgg2241. I feel like we picked ours out if a hat. All I was told was 1.make sure it's 'wipeable' in case a mess goes through the sheets and 2. Make sure it has a hard side for infants and a soft side for when they get older. They call it a 2 stage mattress. It made me feel really dumb bc I had no idea you wanted your newborn on a hard mattress. I wonder when you switch it over...
@cammie0526 with our daughter we put her in a crib in her own room from day 1. That being said I can see her crib from my bed and our dog sleeps in our room and I wasnt sure how she would react to baby crying and a little fearful if we had a bassinet she would try to jump up on the bassinet to see what was going on. We felt it was safest for baby to be in her own room and plan to do the same with this little one. But I think you have to do what makes you comfortable so for some people they want baby in there room with them and others are ok with them being in a different room.
@cammie0526 DS was in his crib right away too. He just preferred it to a bassinet. I think he liked it being more open. Honestly, I just go based on how the baby is. It's all trial and error IMO!
I swaddled with arms out the first three weeks since that was his preference and then after that, he preferred arms in. I did that until about 10ish weeks and then switched to the Merlin's Magic sleep suit (muffles startle reflex a bit so it doesn't wake them up all the way) and he used that until he started showing signs of rolling over.

Me: 32 │ DH: 35 Married 8/16/13 BFP#1 DS 11/13/16 BFP# 2 MMC dx @ 13w 10/30/18 BFP# 3 Preemie DD born at 38w (IUGR) on 8/28/19 weighing 5.5lbs. Our little miracle
@cammie0526 DS went into his crib the first night home and did great in it (I do think it just depends on the baby, and we've been lucky generally in terms of his night sleeping). We did have the crib in our room for the first six months - we won't keep it in our room so long this time, but probably will the first month or two for convenience.
We used the halo sleepsack swaddles (with velcro) at first and then switched him to just the sleepsack version. DS liked his arms out. They showed us how to blanket swaddle at the hospital but I couldn't get it anything like secure enough to feel comfortable about it, so we never tried that.
The mattress we got was quite firm (and had a not inconsiderable number of reviews complaining about that) and held up great until DS was 17/18 months and started jumping in his crib - then the cover cracked and we had to replace it. The one we replaced it with has an infant side and a toddler side, and both feel pretty similar to me - DS is sleeping on the infant side now and we're fine with it for him but it seems kind of squishy to me for an infant, compared to the one we had. I'm not sure what we're going to get her - I'm considering getting what we got for DS initially, even though it didn't last his entire tenure in the crib.
@ternsetc FWIW I have found the blanket has a lot to do with how secure you can get the swaddle. I have historically had ZERO luck with those pink and blue striped hospital blankets they give you and literally have a giant stack of them somewhere in the depths of old clothes bins never once touched. The A&A swaddle blankets (especially after A BUNCH of washes - buy them now and just send em through every time you're doing a load of laundry!) are much stretchier and thus easier to get a tight swaddle.
@kgg2241 from the spreadsheet, we had a product spotlight on cribs and sleep surfaces, but I can't remember if mattresses came up. Product spotlight for tomorrow is blankets, but I'm not sure if that's super necessary..? Maybe we could combine the two.
@kiddiesandkitties thanks for the tip! We actually do have a few A&A swaddle blankets my SIL gave us, so I'll start running them through the wash now. (We were given a few other swaddle blankets too with DS, but imo less nice, and those I've been using for everything - right now I put them on the floor under the highchair to catch dropped food - but I couldn't bring myself to do that with the A&A ones.)
Late to the convo but we swaddled DD but not DS. The swaddle was a huge comfort for her. I would bring it out with us and if she got overstimulated, wrap her up and she was good. Looking back, she probably had sensory issues. I liked the velcro ones because I was not good at doing a blanket swaddle and it scared me when it came loose. When she was about 2-3 months we switch to the Merlin Sleep Suit and used that for about a month, month and half.
Both kids slept in our room until 6-8 weeks. It was just easier for me to have them right next to me when the woke up so frequently. We will do the same for this baby.
This week I’ve be been participating in a fitbit work week challenge (so I’ve been walking a lot). I noticed today during my walk that I felt pressure or a heavy feeling down there... not my stomach, but inside my lady bits.. anyone else have this? I’m 20 weeks with baby #2. I did call my doctor who didn’t seem too concerned..

@tableforfourplease that happened to my friend when she was pregnant with her 2nd baby and she wore a pregnancy belt to help with the pressure. Your ligaments and muscles are just stretched out more from the first baby so you feel more of the pressure!
With my first son, we never purchased a changing table. In fact, my grandmother bought his nursery furniture and she originally did buy a topper for the dresser that made it a changing table and we took that back and saved her the $$ for that portion. Our home is small and I thought the top of the dresser would be better used as normal storage, for a lamp and basket of diaper/changing goods. We just changed him right on the floor of our living room and still do. 😊 We change him anywhere really. A bed. The back of my Jeep. The floor on a blanket. 🤷 For us, it didn't seem like a necessity, and I'm really glad we didnt have that extra peice of furniture in our already small home that's really only used for these few years. Now for baby #2, we're still opting out of the changing table. I'm sure people who have them love them, but I just wanted to let ya know you'll be totally fine without one all together if you decide to go that route.
Is it normal at 21 weeks to feel movement very inconsistently? Like two days ago baby was rocking and rolling all around and now I feel virtually nothing. I keep poking him lol
@nomangos23 yes! Movement is sporadic until the 3rd trimester. A lot of FTM don’t even feel anything until 20+ weeks. As long as you feel something every day you should be ok. Sometimes a sugary drink like OJ will get the babe moving
@nomangos23 I was wondering the same thing. I hardly felt her at all yesterday, but today she has been more active. I'm looking forward to it being more consistent!
3rd time mom here and still some days are very little/light movements...I'm 23+ wks. They still have lots of room and may be facing inward or might just be having a lazy day
@tableforfourplease I had SPD with my first pregnancy and I’m starting to develop it again this pregnancy. It started with a ton of pressure in my pelvis. Keep an eye on it, and bring it up to your OB at your next appointment again if it’s still bothering you. I went to physical therapy for it. I’m starting up PT this pregnancy now too for it. Good luck!
I had a sore throat yesterday and woke up today with a throbbing headache and congestion like you wouldn't believe. I went to urgent care bc I felt like I couldn't get enough air and they refuse to give me an antibiotic til this goes on for a wk. He also didn't feel comfortable telling me what over the counter meds I could take to help break up the congestion bc he didn't know my history. Wtf. Idk what to do:( 99 temp but bp was 95 over 60. I don't feel like this warrants a call to the emergency number for my ob but man I'm miserable... Oh and we leave on Sat for our babymoon
@nightdreamr13 Oh no! I'm so sorry I'm just now seeing this. I def would have called the emergency line. Running any kind of a fever while pregnant can be dangerous. She probably could have at least called in an antibiotic for you. Are you feeling any better?
My doctor doesn't consider a temp of 99 a fever and wouldn't recommend meds for it even in pregnancy. How are you feeling now? Things like raw garlic, teas and honey can really help.
So, I know it varies greatly by person and pregnancy and blah blah, but I'm curious. Anyone want to share their weight gain so far along with how many weeks they are?
I've gained 6 lbs so far at 22.5w which seems crazy low to me considering I'd gained 12-15 at this point with my son.
@nda_roxybabe I've gained 14 @ 22 weeks with a boy. At 21 weeks with my first pregnancy (a girl) I had only gained 8-9lbs. Everything about my girl pregnancy vs my boy pregnancy has been different. I was aallll belly the first time. This time I'm all belly... and then some.
ETA but I forgot you were team green and am definitely not insinuating you're having a girl.... *slowly tries to back track*
I'm at like 7 or 8 at 24 weeks. I gained as low and slowly with my first. One girl and one boy so this just seems to be my norm. Babies and belly are always on track. I eat a lot.
I'm at around 12lbs at almost 24 weeks with a girl. I tend to pack on my weight in third tri though so I am a little nervous for that. Especially because I have way stronger cravings and am eating everything in sight this time around whereas I didn't really have a huge appetite until late in the game with DS.

@nda_roxybabe I'm at 21w and I've gained 12lbs so far. According to my app that's right on track. My weight fluctuates so much tho, plus or minus 5lbs a day.

@nda_roxybabe I’m 22 weeks tomorrow and have gained 3lbs. That being said I started at 50lbs over weight from not losing what I gained with DS, so I’m only supposed to gain 10 this whole pregnancy. With the weight of the baby and all the fluid and such I’m already headed for being over the 10lb limit 😭
I'm 21 weeks and gained 22 lbs so far. I'm not happy about it and trying to do better. However I was doing the keto diet (<21carbs a day) before we found out i was pregnant and then carbs were basically all I could keep down in the first trimester so.....yeah. hoping the weight gain slows down now.
@nightdreamr13 I did keto too prior to baby, from my lowest weight I am up 23 lbs but from when I got ku 14lbs...ehh it is what it is right. I lost the weight 2x before so I know I can do it again it'll just probably take me longer
I’m 23 weeks and have gained 8ish pounds. Less than with my DD at this point but that could be because I wasn’t trying to keep up with a three year old the first time around. @supermom34482 Nutella is also a huge craving for me too! Sooo good
I'm 22 weeks and have gained 15 - 18 lbs. I say 15, but my Dr says 18 at their office. I seriously don't know how that can be possible. I don't feel like I'm eating more or unhealthier. I'm also exercising still. I'm just trying to accept that it must be what my body needs right now (within reason).
Personally,u you are eating donuts all day, I thought bout our bodies just gain what they need to. For some it is less, for some more. I did gain a ton when I started breastfeeding so we shall see this time.
21w and have gained ... I think 7lb. Which is on track with my last two pregnancies (both were small babies) and I started this pregnancy a lot higher than my 'normal weight'. My first pregnancy I started the thinnest and gained a lot more (~60). They are watching me for IUGR, though.
