The Great Question Thread!

Re: The Great Question Thread!

  • @kiddiesandkitties I am on lexapro. She talked about the risks but honestly wasn’t concerned. She said it could affect their breathing, and they are monitored closely at first. I wouldn’t be comfortable with 100mg of something but if the benefits outweigh the risks then maybe i could get past it. Lexapro and Zoloft are in the same family. I’m on 10mg of the lexapro. When I first got pregnant I was on 20mg and I went down to 10 right away.

  • @nightdreamr13 is it a tingling sharp pain? I get tingling, sharp shooting pains in my hip area which are from pinch of nerves. If so maybe similar?

@nightdreamr13 Could you call your OB's office and ask to talk to a nurse about it? They might be able to suggest what might be causing it, or help evaluate if you need to come in (when you get back, etc) or just reassure you. I don't know how easy your office makes calling in, but it could be worth a try. I do get stitches and other activity-centered pain a lot more when pregnant, but from what you've written I feel like that's not what you mean. Pregnancy does bring on all kinds of random pains (stuff stretching, constipation, round ligament and on and on), but localized persistent pain without a clear cause would make me uneasy too. (edited because I forgot to tag you!)
  • @nightdreamr13 My RLP feels more like a “cramp” kind of pain - like period cramps or a stitch in your side from running.
  • @nightdreamr13 when I get RLP it's more like what @lillywonderland described.  It's low and to the side, under my belly, like you'd get while running.  It never hurts to call! <3
  • @nightdreamr13 a few days ago I was getting horrible sharp pains on the top and side of my bump and it turned out to be really painful and stubborn gas bubbles. Do you have access to any Tums?

  • @nightdreamr13 could be that baby is sitting on a a nerve, or that you slept funny. If it were me, I’d call the doctor office and report your symptoms and see what they say.
  • @ternsetc @lillywonderland @kiddiesandkitties yes...its like a stitch you would get when you ran too hard! The kind that makes you grab your side and stop for a min, not the dull period type of cramp.  It's not painful enough to stop me from every day activity but definitely annoying and uncomfortable. It's painful when I sneeze though. Think it's just round ligament and I should wait it out? My Dr isn't the best at understanding what I call ftm  syndrome when you ask a lot of questions.
  • @nightdreamr13 sneezing is a minefield for me now (RLP and the risk of peeing combined)! Have you been moving around more than usual while on your trip? When I chase DS around outside (the little guy likes to explore and can cover a lot of ground) I'm not really moving that fast or anything, but there must be something different about it from my usual walking because I definitely start to feel it. Still could be worth a call, imo, if you're worried.
  • @nightdreamr13 it definitely can't hurt to call and chat with a nurse like others have said. I've had pains that occasionally start around the top and eventually move down due to gas pains since everything is so slow moving. Have you been able to "rub it out" at all by applying counter-pressure or doing clockwise circles on your belly with your right hand? (I know that sounds oddly specific, but it helps in terms of the digestive track, I learned during DS's pregnancy)

  • @kiddiesandkitties I'm sorry that you're struggling with this! I battle it all the time too. Logically, I want to go back on my anti-anxiety meds SO badly, and I know doctors would support it and ultimately the benefit to having a healthy mom is great, but basically I actually put it on my husband to help keep me aware. He's phenomenal at helping me with my anxiety and being a true mirror for me when I need help or am being in denial of how bad things are, so if he sees that I'm really not doing well or I'm spinning out too much, he will totally bring it up to me and question if I should consider going back on meds or need to get back into some of my other forms of self care (yoga, being outside, going on hikes, carving out quiet time for myself, writing out my feelings, talking about everything spinning through my head, etc) to help me find my balance.

  • nikkiraqs I saw your question about bringing anyone to the anatomy scan. During my first pregnancy we invited both my mom & DH's mom to join us. It was a nice way for them to feel included in the pregnancy, and my husband is super close with his mom so it wasn't a one sided decision to include one over the other. We enjoyed doing that, so we will also bring them both with us for this time (our scan is on Monday, 4/29). Hope that helps!

  • I feel like everything I ate yesterday and thus far today (though I've been trying to keep it light today) is sitting in my chest/high in my stomach causing reflux and not digesting. Its making even drinking water today hard. Any tips?
    TTM - EDD 4/23 - Team Green <3
  • @MsBeachNJ I unfortunately don't have any tips, but I get the same thing.  It's usually a symptom of constipation for me so I try to get that end moving and it usually starts to feel better soon after that.  It's the worst when you feel all full like that but are still really hungry!!
  • @RedBreast35 any tips for getting constipation moving? I tried high fiber foods yesterday but am still feeling super uncomfortable :(
    TTM - EDD 4/23 - Team Green <3
  • @MsBeachNJ Do you do a fiber drink at all? Or activia? I do Citrucel everyday.
  • @MsBeachNJ unfortunately nothing earth shattering  :/  I'll eat a handful of prunes on an empty stomach and chase it with a big cup of tea and usually that works by the end of the day.  Fruit, veggies, as much water as I can handle, and trying to go for walks and stretch out my abdomen.  Also occasional prayer and begging.
  • @MsBeachNJ Whenever I get that feeling its usually my bodies way of saying lay of the heavy foods and eat a few light meals.  I'm usually feeling better after a nice salad and increasing my fruits.
  • @lillywonderland I haven't tried a fiber drink. I've eaten Kashi bars and i do eat yogurt daily.
@RedBreast35 I'll try to add some fruits today, thanks!
@monkeysmom80 I totally overdid it Wednesday night, definitely learned my lesson! Guess I'll be having a salad for lunch today!

  • @MsBeachNJ miralax is also approved for pregnancy and doesn’t taste like anything when mixed in water (unlike Metamucil). I’ve also been doing a fruit and veggie smoothie (with coconut water as the liquid, not dairy as it usually makes constipation/backed up  issues worse) a couple days a week with some flaxseed mixed in and it’s helped keep things more regular the last two weeks.

  • @MsBeachNJ I haven’t had any constipation and attribute it to either high quality/ potency probiotics and/or magnesium oil. I take/use both every night. Maybe try those?? I hope it helps :(
  • Moms that had GD, how do you know when peeing all the time is a sign of GD or when it is just normal pregnancy symptoms? With DS I peed often, but I’m now going every 15 mins and have only had half a cup of coffee today. I don’t even feel satisfied after peeing as if I could sit right back down and go again. I started this pregnancy off overweight and I’m starting to worry this could maybe be a sign of GD
  • @duewithpu2 Maybe a UTI? That's how they start for me.
  • @duewithpu2 @mommyshark13 that was my first thought, too!!
  • @duewithpu2 I don't remember peeing an excessive amount more with GD. I would think UTI first.  Also, are you fully emptying your bladder.  Baby may be making it hard to do so.  I lean a little forward when I think she's preventing me from emptying.
  • @mommyshark13 @kiddiesandkitties is there usually pain associated with a UTI? I've never had one.
@monkeysmom80 Good point I'll have to try this next time!

    Thanks ladies!
  • @duewithpu2 typical symptoms say yes.  Painful, frequent urination (generally a burning feeling), and feeling like you have to go ALL.THE.TIME. Like the second you leave the bathroom.  And feeling like you desperately need to pee but then actually having little or nothing come out when you do go.
However!! it does not always present that way. With my oldest, she gets a very high fever and no other symptoms. I've had just the frequency piece and nothing else.  Left untreated, it can quickly turn to kidney infection which is AWFUL.
The Azo pills work great for me. They make you pee highlighter orange for 24 hours, but the symptoms subside quickly.  Cranberry juice is also good (the real, bitter stuff - not Ocean Spray).  Otherwise, antibiotics!
  • @kiddiesandkitties I guess i don't really have any other symptoms of either a UTI or GD so this could just be a weakened bladder from my first pregnancy, but I'm going to try the cran juice and see how it goes just in case. Thanks!

  • @duewithpu2 For me, I don't actually have pain down there with peeing, but I do get like a pins and needles sensation all over. It's hard to describe but you would definitely know if you felt it.
  • @duewithpu2-I didn’t have any symptoms with my first and had GD. Without the test I would have never known I had it.

  • @duewithpu2 do you have constipation? Maybe TMI but for me when I'm constipated I can't seem to empty my bladder fully or maybe it's just extra squished, and always have to pee more frequently/feel like I still have to go. And I definitely have a weaker bladder this time. I never used to understand the thing about water running making you need to pee right then until after I had DS. But also I think one reason we have to pee in a cup at every appointment is because UTIs in pregnancy don't necessarily have pain as a symptom, so it is something I tend to have in the back of my mind (knock on wood, haven't dealt with that so far).
  • @ternsetc Yes I have ridiculous constipation! I bet that is the culprit because it started on a day were my constipation was at an all time high!
  • @duewithpu2 it's so annoying because it's heaping that on top of already being super uncomfortable! Hope you get some relief from both soon!
  • Omg ladies!!!!!!! So for the past 3 days i have this feeling in my gut. No really.. I can't explain it but it kind of feels like a tiny tummy rumble or kind of like an eye brow twitch, but it's super low. It's below my belly button and I would say it's closer to my pelvic bone than my belly button. Is it him??? It's so sporadic and I haven't felt anything on the outside....ftm so I have no clue what I'm looking for !
  • diner04diner04 member
@nightdreamr13 I definitely think that is baby you are feeling! I am also FTM and would explain it like little tummy rumbles or bubbles or even sometimes like that feeling when you have butterflies in your stomach just much lower! I questioned the feeling the first couple days as well but have now been having those little movements for 2 weeks and no doubt its baby now (even though it's still light). My baby also likes to hang out really low down and got to see that at my AS. Super excited for you it's a great feeling!
  • Thanks @lillywonderland and @diner04 I can't believe it!
  • @nightdreamr13 I’d say YES! With my first they described it to me as “bubbles popping” and that seemed to make sense. Once they get bigger it will truly feel like you have an alien inside of your body trying to get out lol
    SO. MUCH. THIS!!
  • @sunshine2417 😂 you mean it is just going to get weirder?
