@dogmom5 I took the Target brand while nursing/breastfeeding my son. I switched bc I wasn’t getting pregnant (doubt that had anything to do with it, just was willing to try anything!). I’m taking the Rainbow Light (and a separate dha) now. I hate the size of the pill but I like that it has the probiotic and superfoods in it. It also is one of the few that has choline and and the recommended amount of iron
It used to be recommended to NOT take a prenatal with iron unless you were found to be anemic. It can exasperate pregnancy induced constipation among a few other symptoms. Not sure if that’s still the case on recommendations. MWs recommend gummies since most women are unable to do horsepills

also, not once have I been told to take a DHA pill.

    Edit: clarity

  • Any recommendations on backpack style diaper bags?  This is number three so I’ll need a diaper bag on my back, a baby on my chest and a toddler holding each hand!  Life is about to get crazy so I need something big enough to hold all the kid’s needs and that will help keep me organized.
  • @lmarie2009 I don't have any recommendations, but I recently saw one of my friends using a little backpack for her toddler (one they carry themselves) so it would free up her body a little more to do other things. Maybe that could be a bit of a solution?

Tandem baby wear and use a shoulder bag. It’s the easiest solution. Toddler on the back, baby on the front.

i use an LL Bean backpack as a diaper bag when needed

  • @lmarie2009 I have a jujube bag that can be used as a backpack or shoulder bag. It was big enough for one kid but not sure if it’s big enough for 3 kids’ stuff.

  • @lmarie2009 I’ve been eyeing this one.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B073PW4GW2/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A2IMO2E73QIGQT&psc=1

We cloth diaper which takes up a lot more space and a few times a week I’ll have three kids plus baby, instead of one kid plus baby so I’m hoping others have suggestions too!
  • Thanks ladies!  I love the idea of one that can go as a backpack or over the shoulder.  @theglitteredpterodactyl I LOVE all the pockets on that one.
  • @theglitteredpterodactyl I love that bag! I have the same one saved on Amazon right now.

I agree that a backpack is the way to go. Got one when DS2 was born and every time I use the shoulder bag now (on rare occasions) I curse myself. It really does throw you off balance when you are doing 1000 things. I have the skip hop backpack. It's been fine, but has taken a beating after two kids--I wish it was deeper because I always have to jam packing it full. I kind of want the Rachel Zoe Quinny Backpack, but I know it's a little excessive for something that might have to carry poo clothes.

  • We have the HapTim multifunction large backpack and we really like it! Now I’m eyeing the one @theglitteredpterodactyl linked because it has the wide opening at the top. That could be a nice change. Hmmm.

@lmarie2009 we (SO that is) got this one and it's the only one we ever use despite me having two other shoulder bags. He loved the idea that he could use it and still look daddy cool. I love the functionality, pockets and pockets and pockets. A little expensive, but well crafted and super efficient. We got the coyote brown diaper bag backpack, but all of this brand are great.   https://highspeeddaddy.com/

  • Anyone else have/had the flu in the first trimester? Just got a positive test for the flu back this morning, and am about 9 weeks. Started Tamiflu, but ~40 hours after I first had a fever. Feeling very down about how this will affect the baby!
  • @happycatftw Have you called your OB’s office to let them know?
  • @melanier26 Yes, thanks for the reminder to do that too! Just messaged them, and hope to hear back soon.
  • @happycatftw I had the flu from 5-7 weeks pregnant.  I am so sorry!!  It was so awful.  I took tamiflu (confirmed w my OB) and made sure to keep the fever down with Tylenol and push the fluids.  I was worried about it affecting baby too.  My OB said not to worry and the biggest concern is having a very high fever for too long.  I hope you feel better soon!
  • First trimester screening yesterday. Baby had a low heart rate - 150bpm which is under the curve. Doctor wasn't worried because all the other values (NT, heart chambers, etc) came back normal. Of course I'm semi-spiraling right now, but Dr. Google has been mostly reassuring.

That’s not a low HB/ it should be 120-160 from here on out. You may see upwards of 180 when baby is active, but 150 isn’t low for 12w

Agree with @cmbt2 that 150 is not low. It’s perfectly average and if everything else came back normal then looks like babe is completely healthy! 👍🏻

Hey! Thank you so much for your reassurances
Maybe the German Dr.'s software is different? Like she showed me the curve on the screen and baby's HR was off it. Like not waaaaay off but not on the line anymore. She wasn't worried, baby can be resting etc, but try telling that to my brain.

  • Thank you for the response and well wishes, @jane101757 ! I hope everyone else stays healthy - flu season is extending late this year. I totally failed and never got my flu shot. I'll be first in line for it this next flu season! (I read it can also provide protection for your baby after giving birth.)
  • @grapeskittles4lyfe Totally. The mental roller coaster of the first trimester (well all 9 months actually) is major!  And, yes, I wonder if the equipment/software or maybe even the desired HB ranges, etc. are a little different.
  • @grapeskittles4lyfe My baby’s heart rate at 12 weeks was 155 and my doctor didn’t say anything about it. I’m sure your little one is perfect!

I'm not sure if I have the flu, but I am definitely sick and it started with aches and chills and total exhaustion. Bleh. Now i have none of that but I'm totally stuffed up no matter how many times I blow my nose, I can't breathe through it.

I talked to my mom and she said not to worry, it wont affect the baby. I was worried because she had a stillborn before I was born because of a virus, but it was staph and not a cold.

Hope you feel better soon (and I hope I do. It sucks being sick while pregnant!)!!
  • Oh, @cheznet I hope you feel better soon too. Glad the aches and chills are behind you - the stuffed up nose is rough. Thanks for sharing your mom's reassurances (thank goodness for all moms and moms-to-be who have been there before)!
  • I treated myself to a medium iced half-caff Dunkin coffee today. A couple hours after finishing it I’ve got a headache. I’ve been slowly reintroducing coffee after not having it for the last 2 months. I know caffeine withdrawal can cause headaches but can having caffeine when you’re not used to it do the same?

Yes, I’ve heard of it happening, but I don’t think it’s a common thing

  • I wasn’t sure The best place to post this, not really a question, but some info some of you may be interested in. I just found out that an independant ultrasound center near my house also does an early blood test to determine sex. The center is called “My Little Me.” We visited with my second to find out the sex  because I wanted to share the news at Christmas, before my doctor scheduled U/S. They offer all kinds of packages ranging from $10 to hear the heartbeat to over $100 for 3 or 4D images and videos. The blood test obviously doesn’t screen for any risk factors, but they charge $130. I know some of us are anxious to discover if we are having a boy or a girl. This option is cheaper than the genetic screening and may be an option for some.
  • Is it safe to eat soy sauce? I'm 10 weeks and 2 days. I googled it and some say yes it's safe others say no. I'm craving lumpia with soy sauce lol

Eat the soy sauce. Is it the soy that worries you? You need much larger amounts of soy (like, glasses of soy milk per day, every day) for the issues that are of concern

  • @happycatftw DH and DS both tested positive for the flu this morning.  It has hit the whole daycare bad and now it’s hitting my house. I haven’t had a fever yet but I’ve had a headache, been achy, and I’ve had a nasty cough so I finally called the hospital and got a hold of the on call dr who called in some tamiflu for me to be on the safe side. I have heard tamiflu tastes horrible and can make you sick....not looking forward to this since I’m still experiencing nausea and vomiting in the 1st tri. Any tips to keep it down better?
  • Oh NO @dogmom5 I hope everyone is better quickly!

  • @dogmom5 I am so so sorry to hear that! I think that was a great idea to proactively get the Tamiflu. I started it later than I wish, but I definitely felt better after taking it. I had no issues with the taste, and didn't get any (additional) nausea, and no vomiting. I hope it keeps the worst of the flu away for you! For me, the flu misery totally washed out any pregnancy symptoms. I ate a lot of saltines, soup, and drank hot water with honey (2 tsps) and lemon (1 tbsp?), being sure to take the Tamiflu with food. Hope you and your other household members feel better soon!
  • @dogmom5 I hope your household is feeling better soon and that you don’t have any bad side effects from the Tamiflu! Keep us updated
  • Ugh @dogmom5 I hope you guys feel better quickly!
  • Anyone else still on progesterone supplements and still battling nausea? I’m getting my levels checked Tuesday (I’ll be 12w4d at that point) and I’m really hoping to at least start weaning off them that point.
  • @melanier26 I'm on Crinone (P suppositories) for 3 more days. It's hasn't related to my nausea at all. I'm assuming yours is oral?

I stopped mine at 11w and change, but my nausea is unrelated and didn’t get better when stopped. Still need daily zofran and probably will for a few more weeks
