My cat got loose tonight and I'm terrified that she's gonna get hit by a car or starve/freeze . The last time she got out she was missing for two weeks and came back skin and bones. She's a super skittish cat to begin with, but we also didn't live so close to main roads then.
@professormama I'm jealous of your productive day. I woke up feeling like crap weak and dizzy so today's been kind of a bust. I did sort my laundry so thats something.
So, several days ago (the last time I had a chance to look at this thread) there was a discussion of freezer cookies...
We're still barely moved in to our new apartment (no gas turned on, no internet until today, lots of boxes still packed)... but it has been an absolute priority for me to make cookies for the freezer since y'all were talking about them.
My great productivity for today has been making a batch of chocolate chip cookies for the freezer. We have an electric toaster oven, so, I am definitely going to bake some of them off tomorrow (no they will definitely not last until April!)
And some responses to the latest comments: @kangstadt sorry about your cat - hope that she comes back soon. @stefanielyn1991 Recently I noticed that I get tired while folding/doing laundry, so I've decided that every time I manage to do it, it's a good enough accomplishment.
@mesweettea yes, let's bring back the discussion of what to stock up the freezer with before baby/babies come!
I'm more of a bun than a cookie person, so my project this week was to make a batch of 'fat Tuesday buns' because they're my favorites! Next maybe a batch of cinnamon buns. Also might get DH to freeze some home made pizza dough so we can easily make pizza once babies are here.
What other types of food do you guys recommend to stock the freezer with? So far I've got one piece of lasagna and some portions of aloo gobi.
@honey_suckle we should totally start a freezer meal prep thread at some point, i have a bunch saved in my email that i need to dig out and organize and can share.

@stefanielyn1991 basically just assume you will have much less time than you thought you’d have. You can prep ahead to be efficient by: - freezing meals so you don’t have to find time to slice and dice, just time to pop a tray into the oven or dump a jar into a pot. (Side note, a chest freezer is a great boon) - setting up online grocery lists for curbside pick up or delivery - Amazon subscribe for things like diapers and detergeant, for instance. - arranging for help aka the sister/mom/grandma that will be a cleaning fairy instead of a burden while you learn to breastfeed and figure out baby - getting whatever cleaning/sorting/painting projects done now because they will be abandoned for a long time after baby arrives
@kangstadt when our pup got out last winter we used Lost My Doggie - they sent her pics to a bunch of vets and rescues in the area and we had her back in like, 24 hours. Something worth looking into. I hope she comes home to you soon. It’s so hard not knowing if they’re ok.
@kangstadt Fingers crossed you find your kitty. I’ve had a few indoor only cats and I know that stress when they get out.
I’ve had RLS for years now and it comes with extremely painful leg cramps. I was woken up this morning by probably the worst one I’ve ever had and I am ridiculously exhausted now. Not how I was wanting to start my day.
@kangstadt I'm so sorry about your cat! That is soooo scary. Have you posted about it on that next door app as well? (if you have it in your neighborhood).
I'm so tired all the time, I swear. I went to bed at 10:30 and woke up at 7:30; that's 9 hours of sleep. It's now 10:30 and I'm already exhausted. And I'm literally drinking coffee while we speak. How is this even possible?
Happy Sunday everyone. I'm at a coffee shop working right now (as I am literally every weekend), but I've got hot plans to do (more) laundry and take my kiddo to the library later. What is everyone else up to? I saw the freezer meal thread, but it seems too early. I still have a hypothetical 12 weeks to go in this pregnancy! How long do freezer meals really stay good for? Won't you be tempted to just eat them before delivery if you make them this far out?
@professormama, I don't think I have that app in our neighborhood, but I'll look into it. As far as sleep goes, I've decided that I just have to deal with waking up exhausted for the next two+ years. It seems I'm always tired no matter how much or little sleep I get.
On a positive note, I have a wedding cake tasting later today so guess who got to eat leftover cake for breakfast? After thst wedding cake thread, I've been craving buttercream....
@professomama I'm not making anything yet, especially since we're still set to move before this kid makes her appearance, more just planning at this point.
You guys my up stairs neighbor got a dog in the last couple of days. Adorable little frenchie. But they keep leaving it out on their patio, with the sliding door cracked. It's fucking January, freezing and it barks at everything that moves. Not to mention they have all this trash on their patio that it keeps knocking down onto my patio. DH said that they left yesterday, haven't come home yet and the dog was out there all night. WTF?!?

@kangstadt@thatbaintforbetty I think I’m just test driving the freezer recipes at this point. Especially since DH keeps eating the frozen chili instead of, y’know, the cooked chicken in the fridge.
@thatbaintforbetty that's really not okay, and those situations are so awkward. My inclination would be to try to politely say something that's a subtle nudge - like "we noticed that your dog was out overnight last night and it was freezing, do you need someone to let it in for you? If you'd like to give us a key we are happy to help!" (obvs this only works if you're actually willing to help). Otherwise you could always call and report them to animal control or the cops or whoever deals with animal cruelty. Definitely a different level of crappy, but we once had a neighbor who used to let her dog use the porch as a bathroom, it reeked and she never cleaned it up. It was a few years ago, but I think we just ended up telling the apartment complex office and they said something to her.
@professormama DH is going to talk to the apartment complex first thing tomorrow morning. The door is cracked enough the dog probably could get in if it wanted to but it’s still shitty pet owner behavior. (Also now their apartment is either freezing or the left the heat on with door open and are being super wasteful) DH also says this isn’t the first time the dog has been around but I haven’t noticed it before. I have a feeling they are either hiding it from the complex or it’s not theirs. Either way the complex will want to know and deal with it. I don’t know them at all and they don’t exactly give off a friendly vibe so I’m hesitant to go the direct route.
I really really cant wait to move.

Finished l&d classes today. The hospital tour was so underwhelming, but it’ll be good in the long run. Level IV nicu which is comforting, but the l&d rooms and maternity rooms are so, SO small. I’m a little grateful for that because this will keep DH’s ridiculous family from overwhelming us. He already said he’s going to tell them only 2-3 people at a time and they can’t stay long.
@kangstadt sometimes hot showers help. It happened right before I had to get up and get ready for work, so I didn’t really have the time to do anything for it. I’m glad I only work until 2 today so I can go home and relax.
Update: kitty came back! I'm thinking she may have just been hiding somewhere nearby, like our shed or something for the night.
@thatbaintforbetty, I definitely second telling someone. Hopefully the apartment complex people can get it sorted and not cause any unnecessary awkwardness for you guys until you move.
@lilpotatomama, I think I remember you saying your DH has a huge family? Setting guidelines now is definitely smart. I always hate having to "entertain," DH's family, and with my first I definitely did not want visitors unless they were my side of the family cause I felt so gross and icky (although we still had DH's side come too). You could always say that it's hospital policy if they're pushy about it too.
@ysotte, I hope you have some time to relax this evening and feel better!
DH and I made our copycat Panera chicken and wild rice soup recipe tonight (I think I mentioned it in the freezer meals thread) because I was craving it. Mm. Now I have some vegetarian soup for these next few freezing cold days.
We went to visit our friends in nyc this past weekend and I’m so exhausted now, I wish I could take tomorrow off. At least we took the train to get there and back and I didn’t have to keep using a greyhound bathroom or whatever.
Apparently my neighbor called the cops and they came out to get information. They got ahold of a maintenance guy and he found a number for the lady in the apartment in the office. The woman said she was babysitting the dog all weekend and the cop flat out called her out on lying to him, and that she hadn’t been home since Friday and had left the dog on the patio. She showed up like 35 min later to grab him. My DH is still going to talk to the complex about the incident since I don’t know if the cops will inform them and also since there is a mess of trash (and apparently dog poo) on our patio.

Thanks ladies. I feel a little silly for freaking out so quickly now.
@lin0442 , I hope you get some rest or naps in whenever you can this week!
@thatbaintforbetty, ugh, I really hope they hold the owners responsible. That's a crummy situation, and I hope the complex does something about your patio.
For anyone interested, I found this hilarious with all the talk of Marie Kondo in the UO thread . *video link in spoiler*
@kangstadt yay for kitty! Dont be embarrassed i literally sat outside and cried shaking treats when my cat went missing! I already live on cereal and sandwiches so idk if I need to worry about freezing food? My SO gets 2 weeks paid paternity leave which will be amazing and my mom will be here till time. Im pretty lucky.
@kangstadt: Yay for kitty! Give it a squeeze for all of us.
Well, DH and I just decided to turn our walk-in closet into a nursery, so I now officially have something I'm behind on!
But I feel relieved to have found a way for baby to have her own space (read: us to have our own space in the evenings and mornings.) Obviously she'll be anywhere and everywhere for the first few months, but I was kind of stressed about her needing to be in our bedroom (which is also the home office, and where we keep everything we don't want kids touching such as computers, alcohol, the nice china, i.e. all the stuff you want in the evening) until she is old enough to go in with DD.
...Which reminds me, is there anyone here working on #3+ who has insight regarding how early #2 can move in with #1? I'm sure it varies widely; just curious.
@professormama I love that you posted about this. It’s great if someone can and wants to breastfeed- it’s generally safe and healthy and premade. But I get bummed because even setting aside medical issues where a woman can’t or shouldn’t, so many lifestyles and workplaces don’t support women to do this thing that they “should” do, and instead expect women to just suck it up if they want/need the paycheck.
I work at a place that has, by all US metrics, decent accommodations (private rooms with cubbies available, hospital grade pumps where you just bring your own tubing, etc.), but even then I feel self-conscious about needing to take time to pump at work for months before I even hit the basic recommended 6-month mark. And that’s way different than someone having to hide in a bathroom or storage closet and deal with tasteless comments about their milk in the break fridge. It’s almost like leave should be longer (and paid) if we’re going to present breastfeeding as the only choice you *should* choose.
