I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one still struggling. My goal is to have at least 2 names for each gender. For a boy we have one full name but absolutely can't come up with a second and we've been stuck here for over a month. For a girl we have 3 first names but we can't come up with a single MN. I thought coming up with options would be a lot easier than it is.
We know that it'll be a boy and we have NO names we even kinda like. Really want to at least have a 'maybe' list soon!

Hi, I'm new around here. I'm so sad I didn't know about this community sooner. You guys seem like a wonderful group! I could use some opinions on a name. DH and I are expecting our first baby 02/13. It's a boy and we love the first name Edison. Would love to hear anyone's thoughts about it... Do you think it’ll be a lifetime of “Oh, like Thomas Edison??” or no?
Hi and welcome, @oaktree6!! I think the name Edison is awesome, but I can definitely see a lifetime of Thomas Edison comments. That's not necessarily a bad thing though. It's hard to know what'll happen with names, you might end up with a science interested kid who loves the name and will be proud and happy whenever the reference is mentioned, or he could end up getting tired of the same comments and jokes over and over. Your DH and you will just have to think about it and decide what you're comfortable with. Either way, I think it's a great name.

@oaktree6 welcome! I agree with @grebretso that Thomas Edison could be a cool reference and so that’s not a negative. Also, I assume that, at some point, he might end up going by Ed or Eddie so that’s unlikely to be an everyday convo for him anyhow!
@oaktree6 it's a really nice name but I can easily imagine the comments. I feel like Ed and Eddie are really solid nicknames though, and could be used independently if the comments are annoying. I don't think I would let the connection deter me.
@oaktree6 welcome! I like the name. I think its strong. I can see getting some comments on cknnection but it may not be bothersome. Itcould be helpful even- coming from someone who has said “Whitney, yep like Whitney Houston” more times than I can count.
@oaktree6 I think Edison is adorable! It does invite nicknames, which is kind of a personal preference thing. Some people are super opposed to nicknames and some love them!
I’m really struggling picking a name I like this time around. With DD, we chose a name, I doubted it a few times, but ultimately liked it a lot. With this one, though, I can’t seem to find anything I like that doesn’t have some major flaw. My (and DH’s - we actually agree!) only real contender right now is Eli. Problems: 1) we have a friend with a son named Eli. He’s almost 10, and we only see him a few times a year. 2) bigger problem: DD is Amelia. Eli is “inside of” Amelia.
Bottom line: am I crazy and need to get over it, or is that weird - to name him “part of” her name?
@catwoman8731 I think those aren’t deal breaker situations. Also, will his full name be Eli, or is it Elias or something that makes it not a part of DD’s name anyhow?
I don't think that's a big deal. The Eli in Amelia is pronounced differently so no one is going to realize that unless they look at them written next to each other. I have an Eli (not short for anything) and I think it's a great name.
Stuck on names! My top name is Caroline & my husband also likes Carolina or Saige. Our daughter’s top name choice is Zoey and our son’s is Sophie. Any suggestions on first and middle combinations using those names?
I thought we had our list narrowed down to 2 names. Either Anna Elizabeth or Leah Rose. Tonight DH threw another one into the mix, Claire Elizabeth. And now I'm 3x as confused because I love them all!! Ugh! I don't know what's worse, not agreeing on a name or agreeing on too many!
@writinghope I like Caroline! My vote among these would be Caroline Sophia or Caroline Saige.
@bellebaby221 all nice names! Maybe wait till you meet her and you’ll know??
@oaktree6 there’s an Edison at my sons school. I think people are using the name - it totally fits in both the classic, back-in-style name trend along with the “-son”/last name trend. Nice choice
@catwoman8731 I wouldn’t worry about the redundancy of letters. They seem like completely separate, independent names but go nicely together. If you like it, use it!
@catwoman8731 Eli and Amelia don’t sound anything alike so I wouldn’t worry about that. I have an Eli (Elijah - but only hears that one when he’s not listening) and Amelia was a girl name contender (I love the nn Millie). I’m biased to Eli for the obvious reasons tho, haha.
Now, I also really liked Elliott for a girl but Ellie and Eli are too close for me.

I would go with Caroline or Carolina Saige. Carolina is a nice. Not something you see a lot. I like it.
