@kayjay44 Yeah, my name is always spelled "Kristen" and I don't mind correcting it to "Kristin". People will always get names wrong. It's just hard to guess if baby will be annoyed by it when he's older or not care.
Anyway, people who don't have white sounding names deal with this on a way larger scale, so maybe we should just suck it up and deal. I have a Cambodian friend who can't even use her name on government websites because they interpret her name as a slur. She had to give up on becoming a notary because of it! Any issues future baby Iver would have to deal with won't be nearly that bad.

I get Daniel for Danielle ALL THE TIME and it enrages me but I wouldn’t give it up I love my name lol. Names get messed up no matter what they are...the general public is just special lol
We have our names narrowed down to 2 and we're going to decide after she's born. Anna Elizabeth or Leah Rose. I love both so I'll be happy with either. Our oldest boys worry that if we use Leah she'll be called Leia, like star wars. I'm pretty sure that's not the case but who knows with kids. I just think it's funny how opinionated they are about it. They do not want anyone messing with their little sister!
My parents made up my name's spelling so it never is pronounced right (thanks, parents). I usually just spell it before saying it or people get confused. And even then it's hard (it has too many vowels) I have come up with another for a boy name that DH does not hate as much (although I am still a fan of Oliver and Luca) - Emil - DH and I both have names that start with an E and our last names are both S (I kept my name), so everyone having the same initials could be cute?
Lol can’t believe people think Danielle is Daniel. Danielle isn’t uncommon at all!
@bellebaby221 I love both your name options! And it’s so cute how your boys are already protective big brothers. I don’t think kids confusing Leah for Leia is bad either, she’s awesome and badass.
@eggsandwich2019 Emil is a great name! It’s common in Scandinavia and one of my favorite Astrid Lindgren characters is named Emil. If you end up naming him Emil, you should read those books for him! He’s not as famous over here as Pippi Longstocking, but I’m sure they’ve been translated to English.

I've been thinking about spelling and really even the simplest, common, 'english' names have alternate spellings that force you to say 'with two Ls' or 'with a U not a W'. Within reason I've decided to not worry about that.
@bellebaby221 both are lovely! I suspect that how you pronounce Leah is a bit regional because I'd be inclined to say it like Leia (french influence, I imagine). I wouldn't worry about it!
@eggsandwich2019 Emil is such a nice name. I considered Emile, but it's a bit too popular for me here.
My boyfriend is Mexican and I am white, so we have to find a name that fits both sides of the family and so his parents can pronounce it. I like the names Sebastìan, Leòn, Teo, and he likes the names Benicio and Mauricio after his grandpa.
I mean don’t get me wrong, I think parents should name their kid whatever the hell they want. HOWEVER I will judge (silently) any name that will look stupid on a business card.
H and I sat down last night and debated/reworked both our lists. Im feeling pretty good about the progress right now but also realize it might evolve over the next four months like DS’s did. Although I think we were relatively set on ds1 a few months before arrival although not 100% (we also didn’t know the sex). Right now we’re liking Edmund nn Ned. DS1 is Arthur.
@BourbonBiscuits - my cousin’s daughter is Ryelieygh - I had to look it up to make sure I spelled that right. I just can’t with that. It’s hard enough to be a kid.
@brennatalia Similar issue with MIL being able to pronounce names. My mom is English as her only language Mexican-American and my dad is white. But both can easily pronounce latino names. We would have chosen Vicente if this was a boy.
Absolutely, do what you want. But for goodness sake why would you want to make your kid's life complicated for nothing? Cultural/family significance are basically the only good reasons, I think. That name is something else @kayjay44.
@ssag - my cousin wanted something unique. I wish I was joking. No one is super happy about it in my family. For her subsequent children, she named them Collin and Bodhi, which somehow makes Ryeleiygh even weirder. My cousin has a really unique name too (a traditionally male name spelled very unusually) so maybe it’s really an homage. R just started kindergarten and isn’t even close to being able to spell it - she can spell her middle and last names, though. It’s really wierd.
@zencats I think it was the “the more unique the better” part. We definitely nixed names that were too common for this generation and this baby’s name is a little out there, but it’s not unique for the sake of being unique, you know?
We have stopped making progress! We were stuck between Everett and Samuel. My husband is concerned DS will get teased for his name sounding so close a San Francisco, but I just love Samuel. We discussed this evening, and instead of getting closer to a decision, we added Wyatt to the maybe list! MN will be John regardless. For context, DH and I have very traditional names, Peter and Elizabeth. But we're open minded, DD is named Arabella. I could use some opinions!
@izzfrancisco I like Everett but I love Samuel! If it weren't my cousin's son's mn, I would have considered it. I don't hear the connection to San Francisco at all... And not that it's all that important but I think it pairs very nicely with Arabella, moreso than your other two contenders.
@izzfrancisco I love Everett and Samuel! I think Wyatt is cute, but I know a Wyatt whose mom is super rude lol so it makes me shudder a little. I think Samuel is so classic and will grow with him so well.

I was thinking since Henry is so common, how about I tweak the spelling slightly to Phynryigh? The P is silent, obviously.
