  • @kvh22 Dumb question...do you think that applies to lettuce that says "triple washed"? Now I'm paranoid. WHAT IF THEY LIED?

@kbeers13 +1 for the baby tub! They're super slippery and fragile those first few months. We also registered for this inflatable duck thing which was SO cute and actually really practical. Once she could sit up on her own, we just filled that thing and she splashed around. Also brought it to the beach a few times and filled with a little water for her to play in.

@nopegoat YAYAY!!! Look at that intuition... congratulations!

@sleepy33 Do you work in Prospect Research? I work at a University and support a bunch of different advancement groups. PRM seems to have the best job! Literally stalking people.

This guy at the office has been wearing the same pair of flip flops for the past YEAR. I swear it was 30 degrees the other day and there he was with those stupid shoes. He would wear them with khakis and a polo. I started to think he had foot issues that wouldn't allow him to wear a close-toed shoe. Well, today he showed up in sneakers! What a miracle. Now I don't have to see his gross feet anymore.

  • I eat cold meat sandwiches, not Subway though, and “gasp” even raw sushi. I don’t eat the high in mercury fish like tuna. But I will definitely have a Philadelphia roll. Yumm!

  • @kbeers13 yea, we used a baby bath tub but also had the inflatable duck @secicc12 mentioned for travel and then used it afterwards and it was great!

@secicc12 yes, triple washed is still handled by people which is the risk apparently.

And I want to "love tit" emails frequently and now just almost signed my name like this was a work email. *sigh*

  • @nopegoat Cautiously optimistic congrats! And again, feel free to keep popping in around here any time.

@wishiwaspreggo I almost gagged at your turkey bacon description. I may never look at raw bacon the same again.

  • @nopegoat.   Yay!!!  Congratulations!!!!

I've never really worried about listeria, and I love raw cookie dough and will eat some if I feel like it.  However (uo here) I'll pass on all the sushi just because I don't like it.  (DH loves it.  I have tried several times, but yuck.)
  • @nopegoat omg YAY!!!!!!! SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!
@kbeers13 you CAN skip it, but it makes your life easier. If you don't want one, you can use the sink for newborn and then move to the bigger tub. I've known moms who have gotten a non-slip mat and put that down and just laid baby down before they can sit with the tiniest bit of water, just enough to splash in, and then just full tup with shallow bath when they are able to sit up. We have a more expensive one, the Boon bathtub, but we've been able to use it since DS was a newborn and still use it now that he's almost 1 and can sit up. It has a few different ways you can use it. Yes we could do the full bath at this point but DS has balance issues so the smaller space is really helpful for him. It works great for us. The Boon bathtub also collapses flat so you can store it away somewhere. We just hang it from our shower rod to air dry. We're in an apartment so storage-ability was important to me.

  • @wishiwaspreggo omg - your turkey bacon description...I will never eat turkey bacon again, haha. I've gotten sick from restaurant pizza once, otherwise - literally years of eating sushi weekly with no ill effects. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • I accidentally bought turkey bacon the other day and it’s been sitting in my fridge. I seriously don’t know that I can eat it now.

  • Just went to Trader Joe’s and oh my the smells! I never get the sample coffee but did so today so I wouldn’t gag. I also avoided looking at what the sample was, I couldn’t do it.

  • @nopegoat congratulations! I wasn't here when you were active on here, but I've seen you a couple times. I'm excited for you, and I wish you the best of luck!!

@kbeers13 my son was terrified of the water (I have a theory that he drowned in a past life, but who knows 😂) and we actually used our bath seat until he was 18 months old. I think we might still have it, but we also purged a bunch of shit RIGHT before I got pregnant. But it's only like $10 so I should probably get a new one anyway.
  • @robyn2201 everyone has told me amazing things about Costco samples but I went through today and it was so disgusting. Ugh this one guy had a sample of chicken noodle soup 🤢
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds I love Costco samples. If it’s a Saturday I won’t eat beforehand so I have lots room in my stomach for all them! Haha.

  • @nopegoat yay!!! Congratulations!! That's amazing news!! I'm so happy for you!!
  • I had horrific food poisoning from a deli sandwich once. It was from an actual deli with a good reputation in West Los Angeles (Bay Cities for the locals), not prepackaged meat we purchased and prepared at home. I had food poisoning coming out of both ends for 7 days. It only got better after I went to urgent care and got a couple of IV bags pumped into me. That being said, I will make turkey sandwiches at home with fresh turkey out of a brand new package not cut from a deli (the prepackaged stuff), or we just heat it in the oven.

Re sushi: food safety standards in Japan are sadly much higher than they are here. It has a lot to do with honor being such a huge part of their culture. Here if a restaurant gets you sick, do you think they care? Like, truly care deeply in their souls? It's just so different. I did eat sushi while we were in Hawaii from a place run by Japanese people and didn't get sick - but my family's been going there my entire life and no one has ever gotten sick so I figured it was not risky. I won't take chances with sushi where I live, though. The fish has to be trucked in, so... pass.

There's a grocery store between my parents' house and my house that carries pasteurized eggs, so they bring those to me occasionally when I'm pregnant. I get my runny yolks sopped up with toast fix and no one worries!

My DH is the food police when I'm pregnant. I would be a lot more loosey-goosey if I were in charge. He's the cook, so I can either cook for myself or just go along with his rules. Laziness always wins.  :p

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds thinking about it more chicken noodle soup sounds so gross right now.

  • @robyn2201 I've been having a massive meat aversion, it smelled so disgusting .
  • @missy052819 omg you are my hero! I wanted to listen to Christmas music sooo bad this weekend while I was cleaning house 🤣 I'm the type of person that set the christmas tree up the week after Halloween. I think we will probably have to wait until later in November now because DS was born Nov 21 last year so I dont think we want to host birthday parties with the tree up every year.
  • @zuuls_mom that’s crazy!

  • Me and my fiance are telling my parents this weekend that we're expecting (and that we've been engaged for over a year - we didn't tell them sooner cause they just met my "boyfriend" a few months ago, as we were having a long distance relationship at the time, and he asked me to marry him before meeting and asking my dad for his blessing). So it's gonna be a double whammy for them this weekend. Luckily they seem to like him, so I'm not worried about that part.

I would love it if their initial reaction would be happy about the baby, but they are old-fashioned, old school Italians who are gonna have a heart attack that I'm pregnant out of wedlock. I'm 37 so I know they need to get over it. I was already having fertility issues before all this and had my eggs frozen years ago (which they knew about) and I seriously thought I would need medical intervention to conceive, but God blessed us with this surprise and we couldn't be happier - I just hope I don't get too disappointed with my parent's reactions. :s

At the end of the day, this will be their first grandchild and once the baby is born, I know they truly will be happy. But it's just now and the next 29 weeks that I worry about with them (even though I shouldn't).
  • @zuuls_mom it is amazing how emotional food makes me now. My friend has been making fun of me for a week now because I made pizza rolls and couldn't find the ranch. I was so upset 😭 and then shouted happily when I found it 😂
  • @zuuls_mom I went ahead and posted my group's check in. I guess people can participate if they want??? Lol. Also I'm so glad your easy mac story had a happy ending! Most of my food stories these days have unhappy endings lol. I've been wanting salami for WEEKS and DH the food police is still like NOPE that's one of the least safe ones since it's dry aged.

  • @nopegoat Yayyyy!! Congratulations! So excited for you! Agree with others, miss you on the board! Please always feel free to stop by and post your sweet animal pics! 🙂

@kbeers13 We used a baby bathtub, and will use it again this time. I’d say it’s worth getting one.

@zuuls_mom Holy moly! I couldn’t imagine having a baby that big! Did she have to have a csection?
  • @zuuls_mom Although that kid sounds large, my sister had four boys and the last was the smallest at 10 lbs 7 oz. They were all C sections with how big they were. They're all happy and healthy and not overly tall so it's funny that they were so large at birth.

  • @expandcontract that is so adorable! I should play some music videos for my DD2 - she looooves to dance.

    DD1: June 2014 - VBM4lyfe
    DD2: October 2016
    DC3: coming May 2019

  • @k2k2tog you totally should! Im actually in the process of trying to convince my husband to enroll her in ballet or dance.  I only want her to do it as long as she enjoys and doesn't become too competitive.

  • @nopegoat congrats!
@sleepy33 my boss never gives me the prospect Research. I agree it’s so fun to stalk. Haha.

Ive always heard that it’s more likely to introduce bacteria by washing greens than leaving them alone (mostly those that have been prewashed). I also have not heard of a single listeria warning for lunch meat but when I was pregnant with DD a whole bunch of frozen fruit got recalled and granola bars.  Nobody’s gonna wash frozen fruit!

  • So maybe about a decade ago there used to be a lot of outbreaks of salmonellA and E. Coli in raw meat.  CDC sounded the alarm,  health inspectors got very strict in handling procedures. That problem got fixed.  But now,  the problem has moved to produce. We became so focused on keeping the meat safe, we forget about produce.  And that's basically why we hear of so many recalls on produce.
And BTW, I remember seeing a news story about a woman who found a dead frog in her supposedly prewashed packaged salad.
