  • Anyhow, to continue @eatinwatermelonseeds .  I'm totally getting the Haakaa.  For that price, I think its worth the chance that it may not live up to the hype but if it does, well I will be over the moon.  I hope to work much harder with this baby, from very early on, to take a bottle.  I was so chained to my babies for their first 9ish months.  Until they were well onto solids they both nursed every 2 hours during the day and would never take a bottle.  Any outing by myself was always so rushed.  I started to get a bit more time as they got bigger, but until they weaned I never even had an evening away.  Looking back, it was SO bad for my mental health.  Nothing really serious happened, but I lost myself and it was really hard to get back to being me. I'm there now, and I don't want to go back.

  • @mrskoz428 it's probably nothing. Are you waiting on genetic testing results? They often don't like to give those out on an answering machine, even when they're negative.

Did you just have an appt or bloodwork done? If so it's probably something simple like low iron or a possible uti. They usually can't leave that kind of info in a message. FX you hear back quickly  ❤️

  • @mcewen3 on the Haaka, I loved it but I had an oversupply. I know others who didn't get much. Like you said, for the price, definitely worth it. I also wasn't suctioning it the best way from what I've seen afterwards. You should flip the edges back and suction on then let the edges back up. I had a bit of a tough time getting it fully suctioned so that DD couldn't kick it off but this should solve that issue. I know someone who used the willow and it automatically shuts off at 4oz on each side, but really, a little before that. For me, I could get 5-6oz and rarely need to pump while in the car which is where I think there'd be the most benefit. If I were driving around to run errands or trying to pump to/from work (I work from home most of the time) then I could see the benefit. Also, if I got less per pumping session and needed to pump more often, that would be much more convenient.

@knarlytaurus (moving this over from the symptoms thread) I have the spectra and paid the $99 (out of my HSA) to get the battery operated one. Personally, it was lifechanging. As a FTM with that pregnancy in Aug 2017, I have no experience with Medela but from everything I've heard, those are the top 2. Having the battery option allowed me to play with DD while pumping in the morning to build up my stash during leave. I could also pump while getting ready in the morning. The freedom to move around the house is something I would definitely value at more than $99. I was off for 4 months so she got a bit "needy" towards the end of my leave and wanted me on the floor with her. I pumped after the first morning feed to build up my stash and could get 10-12oz with just that pump. Add in the Haaka milk (which I poured into 1 oz freezer trays which was great) and we're still using our freezer stash and I stopped pumping in June. I would highly recommend although I'm not sure what my plan is for this pump (is it worth another $99 to just have an extra battery operated one? Idk but that seems excessive?)

  • @mrskoz428 try to relax. Unless you've given them permission, they can't typically give results or medical information on a voicemail. HIPAA.
  • I already answered in the other thread (oops) but I loved the Haakaa! Or the $10 knockoff I bought on Amazon  I had a just-enough supply so I would get between .5 oz - 1.5 oz (on a REALLY good day) but I would save it all throughout the day and end up with about 4-5 oz at night. H would either give this to DS in a bottle or I'd freeze it. It was a good way to build my stash without having to actually pump. This time around I think I'd like to stick to H giving one bottle a day because we had huge issues trying to get DS to take a bottle around 3 months. The weekend before I went back to work he started refusing and it was sooo stressful. I ended up scalding milk before freezing and we tried a bunch of bottles...he eventually got the hang of it after a long stressful time but hoping if we do 1 bottle/day with #2 the aversion won't happen!

  • I don't know where the haakaa comments should be 😂 but I think I'll let one. It's a great idea and at this point I plan on breast feeding so it'll be nice to be able to have dh bottle feed.
  • Also, UO I freaking LOVE turkey bacon. Granted I can't have pork, but Wegman's has amaaaaaazing turkey bacon. I won't eat things past their expiration dates so I've never had issues with rancidity.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge did you have elevated lipase levels? DD was tough to get to take a bottle - we eventually realized we were having DH give her the bottle at her fussiest time (when he got home from work). We switched up the time and foudn the right bottle but it took 1 bottle a day from months one to two to get into a rhythm. Then we basically did one a week until she started daycare at 6 months and she did great, thankfully!

  • @DuchessOfCambridge I'm sure you've mentioned it, but was religion/culture do you follow that you can't have pork? I'm just curious (I know there are a few). I'm sorry if you've already said it, sometimes these threads overwhelm me a little lol. and I hope that's not an offensive question.

So, I'm super anal retentive about the little number that pops up by threads. I HATE it sometimes because I'm not even participating in 3 of the threads I just happened to look at but now I have to open them every time so the little yellow ticker of death goes away. But it keeps popping up for this is us and I haven't watched it yet. It's KILLING me to not open it 😂 this is a problem every week for me. I accidentally opened it yesterday luckily it was just " I watched it, but I'll wait" 😂

OMG I’m not the only one!!!  I can’t stand the badges on my iPhone either.  They have to all be cleared.  When I see someone who has like 10,000 unread emails it makes my skin crawl 😂
  • I'm the same way @eatinwatermelonseeds - and I accidentally open the this is us thread every week.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds YES. I accidentally clicked on the multiples thread and 😐 also I don’t think I’ve mentioned it - I’m Muslim

@kvh22 I don’t know for sure I had high lipase but I made H taste frozen milk that was less than 3 months old and then I tasted it and we were both like YUCK. We compared it to fresh and that tasted much better. So I just started scalding before freezing.

  • @mrskoz428 yay! I bet you breathed a lot easier after that phone call.
  • haha. I refuse to click on the 'this is us' thread, because 1. i don't watch it and 2. i don't want to keep up with the yellow warning.

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds omg same on the This Is Us thread! I don't really wish we'd start a new one every week but that would solve our problems until we get around to watching it. When DH traveled I didn't watch it so was a full week+ behind waiting for him to get home and I just kept clicking on it and x-ing out of the page without looking so it would go away  :D

  • For those that used the Haakaa, is it a manual breast pump? I’ve never heard of this, but I’m intrigued.
  • @chucksmom15 I'm so sorry, I have 24,903 unread emails apparently lol

So it works only with suction. I would squeeze, put it on the side DS wasn’t nursing on, and let go. It would draw out more than just drips due to the suction but DS still got enough to eat from the other side, it didn’t take food away from him. If you get one, I highly recommend keeping a mug nearby to put it in. More than once I would set the haakaa down and accidentally knock it over 😭 some people have had issues with it coming unsuctioned or their baby kicking it off but that happened to me only three times total in the hundreds of times I used it. I was pretty good at keeping a hand ready to catch it. You get used to it!

Once in a while if I needed relief but didn’t want to pump fully, like it DS was still sleeping but could potentially wake up soon, I would suction both on and the suction would draw out enough milk that I was more comfortable but still able to feed DS if he woke up.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge Oh ok thanks. I’ll have to put it on my amazon maternity list. I’m hoping nursing and/or pumping goes a lot better this time around. 😬
  • @mrskoz428 your OB office is starting to piss me off (but then again,  I'm emotional today). What kind of a policy is "we'll only call if it's positive?!"
This is not some everyday lab work.  It's genetic, it's important,  AND it's expensive so you better spare a minute and call me EITHER WAY.  Ugh.

  • @megsb615 I loved it for the exact reason @DuchessOfCambridge mentioned re: expressing an oz. or so before feeding if you're feeling really full. It makes for a much better feeding, especially if you have a strong let-down! Totally recommend.

  • Guys! I'm so all over the place today. DD had slept later the past couple days but woke up at 5:15 again. DH is at an early morning training this week so changed her diaper but otherwise I was solo this morning. Get to daycare, remembered her costume and treats for their party but forgot her lunch. That's okay, I usually work from home but have to go into the office later. Get home, see that my meeting was moved to 11 instead of 2 so rush to get ready so I can drop of DD's lunch (plus snack she needs for 10) and go into the office. Get settled, check email and TB, then go up to my CCO's office for our meeting only to realize it didn't get moved up 3 hours, it got pushed back 4 weeks (well...3 hours less than 4 weeks)! At least I got a bagel out of it since it's bagel Wednesday at the office. And since I was over in the exec area, they have greek yogurt instead of the regular lame stuff we have in our building so I grabbed one of those, too.

@mrskoz428 serious WTF if that was their policy. I got a call about my CF carrier diagnosis but it was from my doc and I answered the phone so no waiting. This time, I've only gotten results via the portal (although they already tested me for things like CF so I think it was fewer tests this time anyways).

  • @kvh22 Oh thanks! The one on amazon had a flower coming out of it, and I wasn’t sure if I was looking at the right one.

@secicc12 Gotcha. I didn’t get the nursing experience with DS and never got much from pumping, so I’m hoping round 2 will go a little better!
  • @secicc12 girl let's get you on there. All we have to do is organize a board-wide effort to give you all the love tits. We can put you up there in no time.

  • Off topic and random but I ordered a bunch of stuff from Motherhood Maternity over the weekend while they were having a sale and I actually like it all! Everything except one sweater I could wear postpartum too and the legging-pants I bought I can wear now! They are definitely leggings but they tried to make the look like pants and added butt pockets haha. I'd gotten jeans from Target but my blip of a bump wasn't big enough to hold them up yet.

  • @sleepy33 Hahah thank you for taking pity on me <3

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds it's the leaderboard, you can only see it on desktop I think. It's based on love tits for sure, you may also get some points for posts/starting threads idk, but I do know there is a correlation between love tits on account of we fucked with it on my last BMB lol.
