Re: Weekly Randoms 10/29

  • @nopegoat yay!!!!  Congratulations lady.  I’ll be sending all my sticky vibes your way.

@kbeers13 we ditched the baby bathtub in favour of this seat for DD2 https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008VWVS14/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1540868652&sr=8-2&keywords=angelcare+bath&dpPl=1&dpID=51TpEBy3gUL&ref=plSrch It was so much easier for me to bathe both girls together rather than putting DD2 somewhere while I bathed DD1.  The support also worked awesome once she could sit up in her own but I didn’t trust her not to slip into the water while I washed DD1’s hair or whatever.  She could sit and play with toys without my arm on her way earlier this way and I think we used it up until 8-9 months or so because she was comfortable sitting forward in it and it made me feel much more secure allowing her to just play freely.  In the very early days, the kitchen sink lined with a towel (or not) works pretty great too.

I’m pretty pro eat what you want.  I have zero desire for a turkey sandwich, but if I did I wouldn’t hesitate.  And I haven’t given up delicious cured deli meats.  Charcuterie boards are my jam and I’ll be freely indulging this holiday season.

  • @nopegoat congratulations! So excited for you! Also agree that you could always be a member here. Ds2 was technically born in feb (3 weeks early) but was a march due date. I just stuck with the March group because I felt like I knew them better. Since I’ve never made it past 37 weeks chances are this baby could be an April baby, but I don’t see me going anywhere. Today i had my first real craving... i can’t stop thinking about a subway sandwich or really any deli sandwich. I don’t even normally like sandwiches. @kbeers13 we had a tub for ds1 but with ds2 we just used a mesh slanted sling. Easier than cleaning 2 tubs.
  • @kbeers13 We def used a bathtub during the early months.  The boon one worked great for us in our kitchen sink.  Once my daughter's neck could stand up on its own,  it became much easier to just bring her in the shower with me.... husband would always stand nearby in case she slipped.  Soapy babies are slippery! This probably isn't the smartest way to do it but it was way easier than getting down on my knees to bathe her in the tub within the tub.  Bring on the flame!

  • @nopegoat I know I’m late to the thread but Congratulations! I’m so excited for you.  Sending wishes for a happy and healthy pregnancy your way 😁
  • @expandcontract Yes, showering with the baby was always way easier for us too. We'd have one parent on standby with the towel, and one in the shower to do the soap-n-rinse of the slippery baby. DD1 showered with me well into toddlerhood mostly because I didn't trust her to roam the house alone on Saturday mornings (DH worked weekends, so it was just the two of us).

  • @expandcontract No flame, but I've always wondered how people logistically make that work. Isn't the water spraying in baby's face the entire time?

  • @lappymom2019 wow you are a patient lady! Yay for it finally being here, good luck!

I know every doctor's office says something different but mine did not ban me from deli meats. Well, just deli meat turkey. But everything else is okay, they say. I still use good judgement if I have a sandwich, and same with everything really, but I'm definitely not strict about stuff. If the only thing I want to eat is a big Italian sub, then that's probably what I'm going to have for lunch.

  • I dropped DD1 in the shower once. :#  Thankfully, I was squatting down at the time, trying to get a better grip on her slippery self, so she didn't fall far, but she did bonk her head and cried so much.

This was the same day she tipped right off the couch onto her head. I was feeling like mother of the year that day. Thankfully, neither were serious head bumps

  • @secicc12 when I shower with my babies, I use my body to block the spray most of the time and then turn them so the spray is hitting their back. They both hated it, but it gets them clean fast.

  • @k2k2tog OMG! Was she okay? That's my nightmare.  @secicc12 I would stand far enough away so the water would only hit her body.  Then, when needing to wash her bottom,  I'd remove the shower head from the wall.  She LOVED showers.  Omg, she was so adorable. She'd sit in my arms with her hands clamped together and just smile and laugh.

  • @expandcontract omg that frog salad story has me 🤢 I would be horrified.

@zuuls_mom WOW that's a big baby let alone for one that's 4 weeks early!
  • @expandcontract yes, she was, but it suuuucked. She was 4 or 5 months and it was the first time she was hurt. And it was my fault. She was fine after a few minutes of cuddling, but who knows - maybe it's one of the reasons why she doesn't really like showers even now as a 4 year old.

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds yes! DH and I binged the whole season this weekend and loved it! Definitely a must see! So much darker than the original and a little creepy but nothing further than a stranger things kinda creepy.

  • @k2k2tog aww. So glad she's okay! Don't beat yourself up too much.  We've all dropped babies on the head.

  • @kbeers13 I watched the first episode last night, I don't love it. I feel like I'm just mourning the childhood they ruined the whole time I watch 😂
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds that's how I felt when I saw they were redoing Clueless. Noooo!!! Leave the good things alone!!!

My random: had an appt this morning at 11w2d, everything went well. STILL waiting on my NIPT results, and my practice does an either/or with the NT measurements but they still did an ultrasound and baby was moving and grooving in there. Measuring on track and all the markers looked good. So grateful. Got a great pic of baby waving to us that I'll post in the U/S thread.  <3

  • @bluesky24 what’s this about redoing Clueless?!

@expandcontract I showered with DS when he grew out of the sink but wasn’t able to sit up yet and it was really convenient! He LOVED it. He still loves showers. I would also kneel and wash him on the floor. Water did hit him but he liked it. Totally depends on the kid, I know my friends daughters both scream bloody murder during showers so they do baths only.

  • My son is getting sick. I think he's taking a page out of my husband's book and turning into a baby. In a super sad voice "mom, I need hot chocolate...I don't feel good" I don't know when hot chocolate became his sick drink, but I got him some 😂 and lots of inhalers to avoid the hospital 😬
  • @sleepy33 I can't comment in there, so congratulations! I think mine is a girl but I think I'll be just like you if it's a boy-- so excited to tell big brother.
  • Yeah I’m not into that. Obviously I’m still going to watch it but I won’t be happy about it!

  • @DuchessOfCambridge I'll watch it  too just cause... (when it hits redbox haha)

  • I’m super behind and trying to catch up, but CONGRATS @nopegoat! Stay here with us!!

also all this deli meat talk has me seriously craving a unwich from jimmy johns 😭.
  • @nopegoat I'm sooo happy for you! Being PGAL is tough but we're always here if you need to talk!!!

  • Having some crazy dreams lately and I'm not liking them lol last night's made me so anxious to go to our appointment next week.

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds I hope he feels better soon!  My eldest also has some asthmatic tendencies which are exacerbated by illness.  She caught a cold last week but luckily it was mild.  I kept her functional and generally happy with our elderberry and echinacea herbal syrup and both inhalers before bed.  I was so thankful that the cough didn’t materialize into much and it was primarily just a runny nose.  I hope it ends up being pretty minor for you guys too.

  • @kbeers13 I've been having the same anxiety dreams. They're the worst! But I had a good appointment today and I'm sure you will, too. Dreams are just weird and have no predictive value!

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds we ran out of albuterol for the nebulizer and wound up in the ER last week with the season's first cold. I should've been on my game and refilled all his meds the first of October, but I keep holding out hope he'll outgrow this reactive airway/asthma. NOBODY else in my family has it, it's so odd. FX your little guy feels better!

  • @sleepy33 @mcewen3 I have never met anyone else with it like this. Literally nothing else exacerbates it, but a cold could kill him. Like... What? I vaguely remember when he was sick my fil told us that DH's oldest brother had issues. But he doesn't have the greatest memory so I have no idea what issues he had 😂
  • @peachy13 I can't wait to tell work to have that off my mind. Also can't believe we're getting to (or are already in) 2nd tri!! It's flying by.

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds that's exactly how it is for mine, too. Not induced by exercise at all, and normally his lung function is great, but the minute he gets a slight cold, he can get very wheezy very fast. It's much worse at night when he lays down and the congestion gets worse. His pulmonologist says it's not uncommon and we have a specific action plan we use all winter long (he stays on singulair and Qvar all winter, and we give albuterol every 4 hours at the first sign of a cold). We also use Flonase and a humidifier all winter. He also had severe sleep apnea when he was little and had his tonsils and adenoid out at 22 months, which resolved the apnea and also helped a ton with his respiratory health in general. He used to get these URIs and colds all year round and now it just sticks to the regular cold season, so luckily he's basically symptom free all summer. The sinus/congestion/snoring thing he totally gets from me, but the asthma stuff is a mystery.

  • He's on flovent. They basically just told me to give it to him every day forever. I am bad about it. But typically around this time of year I'm better about it. I was able to nip his last cold and I'm hoping this one will be good too. After a little Albuterol he already sounded significantly better. He was having a bad day at ABA this morning, I'm guessing probably because he's not feeling great. I just hope it's over with before the weekend. His birthday and party are on Saturday and he's so excited my heart would just break if he couldn't go.
  • @sleepy33 Congratulations! I just saw the news! That’s so exciting you get to give your son a little brother! I have a feeling ours is a girl, but wouldn’t be surprised if I was wrong either 😂 I wouldn’t have a clue what we’d name another boy, but I’ve always loved the idea of DS growing up with a brother!
