@expandcontract Sadly, teaching during the day makes it difficult to comment! I'll catch up real fast! @DuchessOfCambridge My mom went and bought me a bunch of maternity clothes a few weeks ago. It made me happy to not have to buy it all!
My random.... I remember watching an interview of Mila Kunis when she was pregnant with her second. She was saying how the 2nd pregnancy was so much different from the first in that with the first she was checking her pregnancy app every single day to see how much the baby has grown and all that. And her second pregnancy, she couldn't even remember how many weeks pregnant she was. While watching that interview, I TOTALLY thought I'd do the same during my 2nd pregnancy. But nope! Im still very much in tune and obsessed with knowing how big baby is.
@expandcontract I expected to be like you and am legitimately shocked I’m like Mila. I 100% thought I’d be just as obsessive with each pregnancy. I’m just not. Sad.
A general disclaimer of sorts - I worry I come off as too much of a know it all sometimes and I swear I’m only trying to offer advice because someone gave it to me once and it was helpful...and also I’m so interested in all things medical so I research a lot. But PLEASE someone call me out if I’m being insufferable 😂
@DuchessOfCambridge you don't bother me at all! You're actually really nice when you give advice. You have a lot of patience in your explanation.... something im not good at.
ETA: Ermagerd! I just came across this on reddit!!
@DuchessOfCambridge I really enjoy reading your advice and experiences. I agree you put things in a very respectful and interesting (cause science ain’t normally my thing 😉) way. I do more lurker reading than responding, but just thought I’d throw my two cents in!
@DuchessOfCambridge I appreciate your advice. I respect your opinion, and you always present evidence and scientific back up, which I really appreciate.
This is random, but I'm having an allergy mom pity party tonight. Watching my son turn down candy at houses tonight because "I'm allergic" and explaining to him to just take it (because what fun is it to turn down every house). Going through all of his candy and he got 42 pieces. He can have 11. Not that I necessarily want him eating 42 pieces of candy, but it sucks. And his sweet little soul, I accidentally put a piece he can't have in his tool box I was separating his candy into and he brought it to me to open. I said "oh honey, I'm so sorry... It has egg in it" he goes "it does? Oh. Okay, you can have it, go ahead" 😭♥️ tomorrow I'm going to go get him a toy and do switch witch with the candy he can't have. Just bummed out. Halloween was the best as a kid and it's just so sad to watch him. When we have a house that trick or treaters come to, I'm doing teal pumpkin for sure. At least as an option. It sucks.
@DuchessOfCambridge I appreciate all your advice and insight. I love all the mommas in this group but you ladies that are on your second + babies are seriously amazing for sharing and saving some awful WebMD type meltdowns, Dr Google can be just as scary.
@DuchessOfCambridge sometimes I feel like I'm really annoying on here. Or over the top. I actually was really paranoid people would think I was lying about the NCLEX and shit (to be fair, I had just read that July 14 bmb catfish 😂 so I was paranoid someone would think I was). I don't know.
@eatinwatermelonseeds that is tough, poor guy. I was thinking some sort of special treat would be nice too. Maybe start some type of special ritual for years to come that other kids don’t generally get maybe? If I was creative I’d try to come up with an example, but my brain is all done working for today 😴
@expandcontract I am that person. I constantly have to remind myself that I'm pregnant, let alone know right away how far along I am, how big baby is, etc. Tonight we went over to some friends. They invited a group of neighbours and some friends who live on farms to come over with the kids for pizza, appies and drinks before we went out as a group trick or treating with the kids. My girlfriend, the hostess, offered me a glass of wine when we were hanging out in the kitchen and it took me a little longer than it should to turn it down. But it took her even longer to figure out why, lol, which was silly because she already knows.
@eatinwatermelonseeds that's so tough! I agree with @thebobloblaw about starting a halloween ritual that is unique to just your household. Maybe when you get home from trick or treating you celebrate with his favourite dessert or small bag of fave candy. So there's still something to indulge in right after the event? It would also be great if you guys maybe had a buddy to go with. Someone who might be willing to trade the allergen-laden candies for his/her haul of allergen-free? Just throwing out ideas off the top of my head. Also, you've inspired me to be more diligent about asking kids if they have allergies before filling their buckets. I've always had allergen-friendly options but so often it gets so busy by the door that I'm just shovelling candy into sacs as quickly as they are shoved in front of me.
@mcewen3 you know, I never considered trading before. I think what I'm going to do, at least this year, I'm going to let him have the candy he's not allergic to and do switch witch, which is a poem about a witch who comes to take your candy for her cat, and leaves a toy in return. I have some Pokeballs on their way anyway, so I'm going to have him leave his candy out tomorrow before school and when he gets home, the poem and his toys will be in its place.
@nopegoat congratulations! I was lurking and saw your good news. I'm so happy for you and your husband.

@eatinwatermelonseeds for the record, I never thought you were lying but I was super curious about it all since I'll be doing it soon! It's hard to see your kid go through difficulties that other kids don't have to deal with. I so get that. You're an awesome mom.
Last night, when we were TOT, I found some fun size twix on the ground that fell out of a bucket. I put them in my coat pocket and forgot about them. This morning, I discovered them still in my pocket.
@eatinwatermelonseeds a) you are not annoying and b) maybe I'm super naive and trusting, but I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Why assume anyone is lying until they actually give you reason to think that? Also, I feel bad for you son. That's exactly why I like to make sure we have a variety of treats for kids to pick from, but I realized I only ever thing of the nut allergy, not all the other things kids could be allergic to. We had a few teal pumpkin places around our neighbourhood which is nice, but I know allergy kids still don't get as much.
My cough has caught up to me and I could not sleep last night. Coughing so hard I thought I was going to throw up. Eventually, I got up and came downstairs so DH could sleep and did manage to fall asleep on the couch at around midnight. Woke up with another coughing fit at 1:30. I decided to take the day off today in the hopes that a day of not really talking to anyone or reading kids stories might help the situation.

@expandcontract I assumed I would be like you are with keeping up with everything as much as I did the first time, but I don’t as much. Wednesday’s are my new week day, so of course I keep up with that, but with DS, I could tell you how far along I was to the day. Yesterday I forgot to read the “your baby’s progress this week”. I do still enjoy seeing what size and what’s new with the baby though. Sometimes it’s still so surreal that we’re having another. I think that has to do with it some for me too. I’m so excited, but it’s a little crazy (and a little scary) thinking about another baby added to the mix.
@eatinwatermelonseeds Poor buddy. That’s got to be hard for you to see. I agree with getting him a surprise. I’m sure that’d pick his spirits up. I agree with @DuchessOfCambridge, you’re such a great mama!
Can I just say, how is it November 1st already?! It seems like just last month we were celebrating my son’s 2nd birthday and then a couple of weeks later, we found out about this baby. His birthday was the end of August! I feel like time goes by so fast these days.
@eatinwatermelonseeds I think your swap is a great idea. As a kid, I was very allergic to milk, to the point where I couldn't have milk chocolate. My brothers used to trade me their suckers, starburst, and Skittles for my snickers, Twix, kitkats, etc. I still had fun with trick or treating, but I totally get the disappointment. I think being able to trade it for something he loves is a great idea. You are a good mom!
@eatinwatermelonseeds I am a nanny to 2 kids that are both allergic to dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, and eggs. The struggle is real around halloween. I've never heard of the switch witch before, that's an awesome idea. Have you heard of the brand Yum Earth? Their website has a helpful allergy filter that will only show you which of their products are safe for your kiddo. They have all types of candy, and it all tastes good!
You guys are awesome. This was so nice to wake up to. Now I have to remember to put out the candy for switch witch before he leaves today 😂 and I'm actually really lucky. I have an amazing friend I met on Facebook around the time we were seeking an autism diagnosis. She has boy girl twins. Her boy is autistic and her girl has similar allergies to Colin. So I get a lot great ideas and support from her. I give support, but sometimes I feel one sided because she's seriously amazing. She always thinks of things I don't. She's the one who recommended switch witch.. Have to give credit where credit is due lol
I’m bitter. Had a parent schedule a conference for 10 am because she works 11-7 and conferences today are 11-6. She didn’t fucking show up! Ugh, I love my district but sometimes I cannot handle how little these parents care about their child’s education!
