  • @lyse01 those sound delicious! I’ll have to convince DH or my mom to to make them. Since cooking meat makes me gag

  • @llamamamanyc I think you can eat deli sandwiches if they are given a good toast before you do. That way the lunchmeat is briefly heated to a safe temp. At least, this has been my logic!

  • Can't stop eating grapefruit. Can you die of too much grapefruit?

DH called the dinner I made on Monday lame (soup and a salad). Well fella, since I can't stomach making meat, you could skip your Monday disc golf sesh and come make dinner if you want.  Spoiler: he ate soup and salad and lived.

  • I'm still in the stage where nothing sounds good, until I think of that one thing I can stand to eat.  Lately that's been crackers and cheese.

Made myself a vegetarian burger on a toasted bagel the other day with some romaine lettuce, thinking I would be healthy... took one bite and nope.  Forced down a smoothie and an entire sleeve of Ritz crackers and cheese instead.

  • @blueberrymomma honestly they looked less greasy and more appetizing than most wings. I popped them back in the oven for a few minutes after saucing to make it more of a glaze and less of a mess.

@sheepshepherdess @llamamamanyc I’m in the camp that hot pastrami (and any toasted sandwich) are a-ok. Except it sounds unappetizing right now.

@MRDCle  soup and salad sounds very healthy and like a very appropriate light dinner. Good choice.
  • I was avoiding this thread because every time I read it I get extra nauseous, but I just did it anyway - probably not worth it.  Anyway, cold stuff is still the best, like fruit or salad.  Salad with ginger dressing is especially fantastic, BUT it has to be the kind they serve in Japanese restaurants.

Pizza still sounds good and goes down pretty easily, but I have to stick with margherita vs. anything highly processed and greasy or I feel terrible after.

Having a really hard time with meat, at least plain.  H brought home giant beef ribs the other night because apparently he hates me - I told him right off the bat I would not be able to eat them. The smell made me want to kill him, and everybody knows baby back ribs are the only ones worth eating anyway.

  • Woke up with a craving for chamoy

  • 11 pm and I’m making crepes for the first time. Of course I’d start craving sweets 13 weeks in when I haven’t wanted sweets at all this entire time.
  • Tortillas with butter and refried beans, small amount of cheddar cheese.... nom, nom, nom!!!
  • Omg spoon bread. Why did I not think of his sooner?!  So simple and so gentle on the tummy.  I was having a super nauseous day and now I feel almost ok!

  • I just got mozzarella sticks on my way h ok me from work. All because I read this thread before I left work this afternoon!
  • @Piccola1988 what is spoon bread?

last night, I used up half the veggies that were about to go bad by making zucchini boats - everything got chopped, mixed, stuffed into scooped out zucchini split lengthwise, and covered in cheese. I foresee this being a very versatile dinner plan, and pregnancy friendly.
  • I am using the leftover turkey from Canadian Thanksgiving to whip up some turkey enchiladas tonight....mmmmm melted cheese.

Also, after having read this thread in entirety I feel like I can make the very scientific observation that pizza and cereal seem to be the safest foods for most all fellow pregnant ladies (I could happily live on pizza and cereal right now).
  • Evidently Turkish food is what these kids were waiting for. DH and I went on a dinner date last night - we got falafel, baba, hummus, tabouleh, lamb chops, lamb stuffed eggplant HOLY CRAP it was so good.

  • @MRDCle That sounds soooo good!

Made a bunch of farro last night and threw in leftover spinach, chopped up roasted sweet potato, and some (...a lot of) goat cheese and DH didn’t make a peep that there wasn’t any meat or eggs in it. Fall veggies are the best!
  • @lin0442 @MRDCle I’m living vicariously through your meals

Wait I love farro.  And goat cheese. This sounds amazing.

  • @lyse01 it's basically a really soft cornbread type of dish - some might say it's almost like a bread pudding in consistency.  There are lots of different recipes, many of which have added ingredients, but I make the plain kind which is just cornmeal, milk, baking powder, salt, and oil.

  • @Piccola1988 well that sounds delicious
  • My mom invited us for dinner last night and was making spaghetti. It sounded so good that I text DH to tell him that something actually sounded good. Lol. He agreed that that was enough of a reason to join. I got spaghetti for dinner and leftovers for lunch. Mmmm.
    this is my backup acct.

  • @MRDCle Oh man falafel sounds so good!

@lin0442 Wow love the sound of that dish.

For some reason all I want right now is bagel, egg, bacon, and cheese sandwiches. Kind of hard to find in the middle of nowhere, but got one on the way home from the u/s today. And a fruit tart, because YUM.

  • Baked potato skins (no bacon please)!!!! And extra salt!!!
  • All I have wanted for the last week is an apple crisp and my cousin posted a recipe for one yesterday. I may make that happen today.

@MRDCle, sushi is the one thing I have been craving THE MOST for the past 3 months!! sashimi, especially. :'(  I did indulge when I was pregnant w/ my first, but idk why I'm so conflicted about it this time. probably PGAL anxiety.
OMG I seriously thought I was the only one; I have been sushi OBSESSED for the past 2 wks. I've been making California rolls at home...like 4x per day. I think it's over half of my diet most days. I'm tempted to go get some real sushi like a rainbow roll, but I would be not only risking the fish but gluten cross contamination (the places here try, but I often still get symptoms from Celiac afterwards).
There were a few days where sushi was my only topic of conversation and I decided I want to become a sushi chef (not sure how to make a crying laughing face on here... But that!)
  • Apparently I need Wendy’s Chili cheese fries every time I am near the Wendy’s.
    :-O @kbirchtree Their fries aren't gluten free!!
  • I just ate a spinach salad. I’ve been super disgusted by any vegetable while pregnant, and I threw up the last time I ate a salad. Feeling just fine this time, but also feeling gross and unsatisfied. I should have followed my heart and eaten a baked potato. Thinking about eating a potato anyway, though...
  • @lilpotatomama It's perfect that you changed your username because I think potatoes are a pregnant lady's best friend. At least, they have been for me. Potatoes all the time, please.

@sheepshepherdess potatoes have always been my best friend. Particularly baked. But I don’t discriminate! All potatoes are good potatoes. I once told my mom as a kid that I wanted a baked potato for my birthday. The next year I asked for a block of cheese 😂

ETA: I agree on the pregnant note, though. For some reason potatoes were the only thing that settled my stomach aside from crackers when I was struggling with nausea!

Update: I did it. I made the potato. I did not skimp on toppings. I swear it weighed over a pound. No regrets. Probably should stop eating at 10 pm but oh well.
  • @molecularmolly @MRDCle @batmama31 I craved sushi so badly since basically the day I found out I was pregnant. When I was about 11 weeks I couldn’t take it anymore. I did some research about how Japanese women eat while pregnant and headed to my favourite (and very reputable) restaurant and destroyed  a plate of salmon sashimi and a tempura sushi roll. It was amazing and I might be the worlds worst pregnant lady but man that velvety deliciousness.....
  • I will say the good thing about craving popcorn chicken this pregnancy is that giving in has just strengthened my vegetarianism... definitely hasn't been as good as in my memory (probably also because it's been frozen stuff instead of official KFC awful-for-you, but hey).

  • @lilpotatomama OMG I’m dying at the baked potato and block of cheese requests.

I didn’t read this thread yesterday but independently arrived at a baked potato for dinner and it was heavenly. So much sour cream, so fluffy with nice crispy skin, A+. Basically ignored everything else on my plate.
  • Apparently I need Wendy’s Chili cheese fries every time I am near the Wendy’s.
    :-O @kbirchtree Their fries aren't gluten free!!
Well, the fries are.... the Friers are not. :/

mcdonalds and In-N-Out are the two I know of that are cross contamination safe.
  • @kbirchtree Yes :-) But since the fries go in the frier...:-).

I don't know if you guys have 5 Guys but they have some killer gluten free fries, and you can get them with canjun seasoning...yumm! Unfortunately I can't eat their burgers anymore *sob* since they started frying grilled cheese on the same surface as the burger patties.

I've heard back and forth on McDonald's fries, and the few times I've tried them I have gotten some symptoms (though it could just be because the place is dripping with gluten, so other CC is very likely...:-) )
  • @molecularmolly I’m in the process of being more strict with my gluten exposure. So I will likely be sticking with In-N-Out and good to know about 5guys. I can’t have onion or garlic or anything fun... (fodmap diet) as of tuesday. I even just bought a new toaster and butter dish just for me.
  • @kbirchtree I'm glad <3 I was amazed how much of my chronic back/neck pain and other random things went away when I got really strict about it (our home is 100% GF, and my husband is most of the time too for my sake, but we were eating out at some places that claimed to have GF but weren't careful enough).
Now is a really good time to get extra careful, poorly controlled celiac and pregnancy is a bad combination (trying not to fear monger but I've read some bad things and it really caused issues for my undiagnosed grandma during pregnancies).

Also if you have Dickey's BBQ they are surprisingly good at allergies. That's today's craving for me...I just have to somehow muster the energy to go get some :-D

I also seriously want a Taco Bell bean burrito, luckily they sell their sauce in stores so I can approximate pretty well. I think that's dinner tonight :-)
  • I'm so stoked that I can be on this thread now, up until like yesterday it was gag central, I really couldn't read it :-) Yay food!
